Hollywood (United States) (AFP) – African-American civil rights groups plan to protest outside Sunday’s Oscars show, where every single one of this year’s 20 acting nominees is white.
However small, the demonstration will revive debate about diversity at the Oscars-awarding Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose voting members are overwhelmingly white and with an average age in their 60s.
“The goal of the protest is to send a message to the Academy, send a message to Hollywood, send a message to the film industry,” said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, head of the LA Urban Policy Roundtable group. (more…)

President Barack Obama made a video appearance during Sunday night’s Grammy Awards to call on Americans to end sexual violence, saying, “It’s not OK, and it has to stop.”
Obama asked artists at the Grammys to urge their fans to join Obama administration’s “It’s On Us” campaign targeted at college campuses, which began in September. “Artists have a unique power to change minds and attitudes and get us talking about what matters,” he said.
“It’s on us, all of us, to create a culture where violence isn’t tolerated, where survivors are supported and where all our young people — men and women — can go as far as their talents and their dreams will take them,” Obama said in the video. (NBC)

CALIFORNIA – Bruce Jenner was involved in a fatal multi-car collision in Malibu, CA, according to Post sources.

One person was dead in the crash, said the sources. Jenner’s blue Cadillac Escalade suffered damage to its front. A white Lexus and a black Hummer were also damaged. The accident happened at about noon. Jenner’s Escalade was towing an off-road dune buggy, said witness Keoni Picerno. (more…)

Based on ‘what’ exactly? An ideological first lady who leveraged her political influence into a New York Senate bid, which led to an actual presidential campaign based on absolutely ZERO executive experience; which immediately created an appointment to become the most failed person executing foreign policy as Secretary of State.
Anyone remember the WikiLeaks Cable leaks/controversy in her first years’ tenure?… Which led to an entire wasted year of diplomatic apology…. Then came the Libyan fiasco which led to Benghazi…. etc. And we cannot forget the support for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt…..  What exactly would anyone call a success during Hillary’s entire political life?

HOLLYWOOD – American Sniper has set its sights on another record: Within a matter of days, it will overtake Steven Spielberg’s WWII classic Saving Private Ryan to become the top-grossing war-themed film of all time in North America, not accounting for inflation.
Clint Eastwood’s history-making movie jumped the $200 million mark on Sunday, putting it ahead of Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor, another WWII title topping out at $198.5 million domestically in 2001. American Sniper is distinct from those two film in being set during a modern-day conflict.
Saving Private Ryan, released in 1998, earned $216.7 million […] Sniper will cross $216 million sometime this week for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow. (more…)

Warner Bros. has been in business with Eastwood for many years, Fellman added — but “this kind of thing certainly required a phone call to the house.”

VARIETY – After a record-breaking wide-release debut over the Martin Luther King holiday, “American Sniper” will loom large at the box office for the second weekend in a row.
Analysts didn’t see Clint Eastwood’s look at the life of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle coming, so it’s hard to figure out just how massive the film will continue to be now that it faces off against new projects from Jennifer Lopez and Johnny Depp. (more…)
