US Launches Tomahawk Cruise Missiles Against Gaddafi’s Air Defenses – (BNO News) — The U.S. Navy on Saturday evening fired several Tomahawk cruise missiles at Libyan air defenses, U.S. media reported, and President Barack Obama is expected to make a statement soon. NBC News, Fox News and CNN reported that the U.S. Navy had joined French forces in carrying out attacks on Libya, where Muammar Gaddafi has violently cracked down on anti-government protesters. Few details about the U.S. attacks were immediately available, although there were reports of several loud explosions being heard east of Tripoli. Immediately following a summit of coalition forces the French Air Force began combat operations in and around the rebel stronghold of Benghazi in Eastern Libya.   Aljazerra and Western Media outlets begin to describe the conflict.   Both East and West media views presented below:

Eastern Reports (Aljazerra)  French warplanes have hit four tanks used by forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi on the outskirts of the opposition stronghold of Benghazi, on a day when opposition fighters in the city reported coming under constant artillery and mortar fire.  The action marks the first international military move against the Libyan leader, and it comes a day after the UN Security Council authorised a no-fly zone over the North African country.  (more…)

Now let’s see what they do with their resolution…..  Who is going to enforce it?   Yesterday Saif Gadaffi gave the rebels in Bengazi a time line (deadline) of midnight last night to put down their arms.   Bengazi is the 2nd largest city in Libya and the first city to be ‘liberated’ by the rebellion.   The U.N. resolution today is in response to Quackdaffy’s military bearing down on Bengazi.  They are attempting to head off the potential for a massive military attack against the city by pro-Quackdaffy forces.   This is a breaking development and more will be announced soon.   However, the question remains, now a “No-Fly” zone is approved who is going to enforce it? (AFP)– U.N. Security Council members agreed on a draft resolution that will impose a no-fly zone over Libya, diplomats in New York said. The measure passed a vote at 6:30pm EST.   10Yea – 0 Nay with 5 abstensions.

To insure the west stays out of his business while he encircles Benghazi, Captain Crazy has shifted strategy a bit.…… (Business Insider) — Colonel Qaddafi is switching scare tactics. For weeks he warned that any ouster of himself would let Al Qaeda take control of Libya. Now he warns that in an invasion he would join forces with Al Qaeda. Qaddafi told Il Giornale: “We will ally ourselves with al-Qaida and declare holy war.” That indeed is a scary idea, which will give America another reason not to commit to a no-fly zone.  (more…)

The liberal pundits continue to celebrate the liberation of Egypt from 60 years of Pharaonic rule while the news no one wants to believe filters back.
