There is a reciprocity justification for Bombardier sales restrictions in the USA considering the non-tariff barriers that U.S. company Gulfstream faces against their Canadian competition. It will be interesting to see if the Dept of Commerce or USTR enact a regulatory barrier.

Can-Am was a pretty respectable dirt bike in my motocross era! 1970’s My machine was a Montessa 250, a screamer, but so were the competitors, LOL I wanted a Husky but no local dealers then.

I was lucky enough to have a motor head neighbor who got into bikes for awhile. Had the pleasure of riding a 125 Yam-YZ, 125/250 Honda Elsinore, an Mk IV (Bultaco) and an old Zundapp.
Probably the most fun time of my life and I got the scars to prove it.

Joseph Bombardier was the inventor of the snowmobile. Later the company made jet skis and then the CanAm trikes.
All that got spun off or sold and now they only make business jets.
The first time the word “Snomobile”was coined was in Ossipee NH in 1912 with a converted Model T Ford.
A few years after Bombardier acquired OMC ( Evinrude and Johnson) motors they split the into BRP–Bombardier Recreational Products- SeaDoo, SkiDoo, Can Am etc.
The other side was Bombardier Transportation that included the jets and another big player is in the people moving railcars.
In the first meeting with the new division heads it was explained to us that Bombardier business was moving people. Still have the pens they handed out at that meeting.
Sturtevant Wisconsin was where the outboards were assembled, very nice facility. As a boat manufacturer we had a close relationship with that division.
There was a branding issue in that they were both 2 stroke outboards, Evinrude had direct injected fuel, a new concept at the time very common now. Johnson was a carburetor which had problems passing emission regulations.
BRP made a deal with Suzuki and rebranded their smaller 4 stroke models as Johnson thus opening up a market for the struggling Suzuki. The Evinrude line had no issue passing emissions and carried on for years with more and more bad corporate decisions missing changing and coming trends.
BRP finally exited the outboard market completely, leaving the opening for Suzuki to expand into the larger higher horsepower market that they have large footprint in today.
I worked at OMC for most of my career as a district sales manager and then in the marketing department in Waukegan, IL, and then worked in marketing for Bombardier in Sturtevant when they took over Evinrude & Johnson. Having grown up with Johnson Outboards in the the 60’s & 70’s, I was not too happy when Bombardier killed the Johnson brand. Later in my career I worked for a boat manufacturer that used Bombardier Rotax engines in them. Now retired.

Here is a state by state list of stations that have it for motor vehicles, I don’t think marinas are listed – even though many have it available. Aviation fuel remains uncontaminated by ethanol as well, although the octane is much higher than needed for outboards.

Bombardier also manufactures the Rotax aircraft engine for light sport and home built aircraft. This is a variant of the jet ski motor, a generalization for this purpose, that has gained a great market share in the US. The Rotax has a great reputation and service support far better than the legacy aircraft piston engines. But they have been charging an increasingly confiscatory price for it, leading to a need for another option. Perhaps one will emerge, there are a few candidates. The underlying strategy of the Canadian government is puzzling. The easy answer is that they are simply answering to their Chinese masters, but I suspect there is a broader explanation.
Edit: I am incorrect. The above comment on the Can Am is correct. The recreational products were split into another company over 20 years ago, and the Rotax is made in Austria by the other company, BRP Recreational Products. I don’t know if there is still any link between them since they separated.

I think in the US, the regionals with jet aircraft are flying either Bombardier, Embraer, or both (like Skywest). There may be a few Canadian de havilland dash 8 in service in Alaska, but most of the Turboprop business is cargo. Only USian I see is the Cessna-208 but that’s pretty limited in the scheduled carrier world.

I do have extensive real world work on all of these aircraft. Avionics tech. just about every class/type flown in the last 30 years and some A300-600 the oldest type I’ve ever worked in heavy c part 145.
Now I am more or less a technical advisor and contract my experience with a wide range of mostly STC/145 private companies, but occasionally I also do training at some of the major manufacturing facilities. Presently, I am training a team here in Alabama to retrofit the LIma model H60 platform for various security and surveillance missions for various foreign nations state customers. I’ve worked directly on Airbus and Boeing types and directly contracted for both companies, both here in the states, and twice in France and once in Canada.

I’ve been boycotting Canadian products for quite some time, along with most other foreign made products. The U.S. companies will get what money I have, (I am on a fixed income, so am very careful where my money is spent). I go to Farmer’s Markets, when they are available and grow some of my own in Summer. Fortunately there is a Farmer’s Market during the colder months not far from me that grows vegetables in greenhouses locally.
In my opinion, the other countries have brought their grief upon themselves. It is their politicians and they need to “man up” and do something to fix their countries, including getting rid of the parasitic, terroristic, immigrants they bring in and their politicians (I know some are (s)elected)., just like here. It appears they have lost their collective minds or they do not care. Mind numbing to me how they have turned their countries into dangerous places to visit or live, but people still want to visit these places. It was getting bad in Europe when I was there on business in the late 80’s, but not like it is now! Shaking my head in disgust.
