Love North Carolina. Went to Chimney Rock Park many years ago. Been down the Blue Ridge Parkway more than once. Stayed at Little Switzerland Inn. Did some gemstone mining somewhere one time after we left Boone. Great people. Great state.

Asheville had a gang shooting a couple weeks ago, local pols will NOT let it be called what it is.
They’ve had gang problems for awhile, they just keep their head in the sand.

Spent the summer at lake Chatuge house, beautiful but, it was brutal hot in the 90’s with 80% humidity. Was happy to get back to FL. Going back in about a month when it cools, need to finish the steps going into the water while level is down.

I was surprised that the city recovered sufficiently from Helene to host such a conference.
Asheville suffered with Hurricane Helene. The leadership is very liberal and they are in big debt from wasteful spending. The sweet town of 30-40 years ago is filled with ills that come to any liberal armpit town. It’s more similar to Portland, OR than its former self.
NC native here, know all the places you speak of. Many a vacation spent with my sister who lived in Asheville. Honeymoon at Little Switzerland Inn. I am a beach person, but the mountains certainly have their draw.

Secretary Bessent is pure genius.
And the true heir to the President? If economic stability = national security, then this is the man I’d want to see lead the country. Yes, I know it’s premature to speculate on candidates, but that hasn’t stopped a whole lot of others from opining.

Grove Park Inn is where some of the original globullists hung out. George Vanderbilt (the youngest, least amount inherited) built is “cottage” in Biltmore. It is expensive to tour, but it is still privately owned. No federal funds. That fact alone is reason to visit at least once. Will take the kids when they are older.
Asheville is now a loony bin. That has ruined the Grove Park for me. Used to try and get there once a year, but never stepping foot in Asheville again – at least not of my own volition.
And to your point, F Scott Fitzgerald drank himself to death over time living in the Grove Park.
One of my grandmothers lived in Asheville. We visited Biltmore long ago at Christmas when it was decorated for the Season. Absolutely gorgeous, as was the surrounding area. And then I departed these shores for twenty years, only to come back and discover how far the city had fallen. Democrats ruin everything they touch; and the more beautiful a place is, the more glee they seem to take and effort they put into destroying that beauty.
Go near Christmas! Trees, gingerbread all the decorations are beautiful. I think it’s all decked out by Nov 1.
