Secretary Bessent notes in his prepared remarks that President Trump has called the nations who are engaged with Iran to request them to cease and desist. That means Trump likely called Chairman Xi (China), President Putin (Russia), President Erdogan (Turkey) and President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan.
The video and transcript of Secretary Bessent’s remarks are below. Media questions begin at 7:50 of video. WATCH:
[TRANSCRIPT] – Good afternoon.
Today, at President Trump’s direction, the United States Treasury has begun Operation Economic Outcast – an unprecedented campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its enablers.
In the Second World War, D-Day marked the historic beginning of a campaign with our allies to target and drive the enemy from its positions, including those in third countries.
Today, in that same spirit, we are launching an economic onslaught against Iran’s financial connections around the globe. Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone.
Iran’s fanatics devote themselves to “Death to America” and seek nuclear weapons to do just that. They have murdered and maimed more of our citizens and service members than any other terrorist regime on Earth. And they have been at war against America, their neighbors in the Gulf, and much of the world for 47 years.
President Trump has taken action that his predecessors have long deferred. And under his leadership, America is no longer managing the Iranian threat. We are ending it.
Our great armed forces have laid the groundwork for achieving the President’s objective of preventing Iran from ever obtaining nuclear weapons. They have shown America’s resolve to finally end this threat. And the strength of America’s economy under President Trump allows us to wage this sustained financial operation alongside the might of our military.
Iran now faces a very clear choice, with only two paths before them: complete global isolation and a subsistence economy, or a path back to normalcy, with an opportunity to rejoin the global economy.
Today, we are launching Operation Economic Outcast to foreclose every other option available to the Iranian regime.
Treasury has mapped every node, every facilitator, and every network that Iran has used to smuggle oil and evade sanctions.
Beginning today, the actions of Treasury and other agencies will tighten the noose and block every potential source of revenue that funds the IRGC and the Iranian regime. We are enforcing a zero-leakage approach. There will be no minimal breathing space for the regime to rebuild its capacity to inflict terror against America and the world.
The final refuge of this regime is in the mistaken conclusion of nations that still finance the Iranian threat in the hopes of evading it.
It is no longer acceptable to operate in the gray spaces of this conflict. Countries cannot claim that they are blind to enabling this activity.
Iran’s enablers purchase and transport its petroleum. They facilitate the flow of its finances through exchange houses and free trade zones.
They welcome Iran’s flights and maintain registries on its behalf. They turn a blind eye to seaborne fuel transfers and to overland transits. And they condone the illicit use of their banks, all while concealing the extent of their complicity.
The President is making phone calls to world leaders with specific requests to cease their interactions with the regime.
We are already seeing results.
Over the weekend, comments from Iranian leadership clearly acknowledge the effect of this campaign. And nations that facilitate any interactions with the regime should quickly heed our message. Those who stand with the United States will reap the rewards of our partnership.
Those who tether themselves to Tehran should expect to share in the isolation of a withering regime.
Teams from the Treasury, State Department, and the U.S. military are now meeting with their global counterparts to tell them that the United States expects action. Every country has a defined timeline to shut down activities we have identified. If they do not take action, we will do so unilaterally through Treasury authorities.
For example, every Bank Melli branch must be shuttered.
And let me be clear: any entity that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be removed from the U.S. dollar system. The clock is ticking.
The new sectoral sanctions determinations issued today target five of Iran’s most vital lifelines that it exploits in other countries: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping.
These measures broaden secondary sanctions risk for anyone foolish enough to continue conducting business with this regime—and accelerate the speed with which we pursue them.
As I speak, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is also sanctioning over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels across the world that enable the Iranian regime to procure illicit nuclear and missile technology, conduct cyber operations, and generate oil revenue.
This is a sustained campaign to collapse every last option for Iran. Let there be no ambiguity as to the position of the United States: An economic engagement of any kind with this murderous regime will expose those responsible to the full reach of American power.
For decades, this regime has drawn strength from a calculus that regards Iranian retaliation as certain and American enforcement as negotiable. Under President Trump, that era is over.
To the ordinary soldiers supporting this regime: as more and more of your paychecks stop or are supposedly “just delayed,” ask whether your commanders are leading your country to triumph or to ruin. And recall that the Berlin Wall fell when ordinary soldiers decided not to shoot.
And to those who enable Tehran: Do not discount the cost of testing Washington. No nation should expect to enjoy the rewards of our system while helping those who seek to destroy it.
It is now time for world leaders to make a decision. Between prosperity and isolation. Peace and terror. America and Iran.
The campaign we begin today will gather force with every day that follows. And it will not end until this regime stands alone.

Problem! China, Russia, Turkey and Pakistan aren’t our allies in a coalition like we had in WW2. In a sense we are asking these nations who need the oil to not buy from Iran and support our efforts. That’s a big ask with zero incentive from these nations.
It’s a whole new world out there. The NATO thing didn’t work out too good for us.
Agreed. China, Russia and Turkey are not led by fools or ideologues. These are very pragmatic sovereign operators who think smartly, and with national self-interest at the forefront.
Their cooperation here may come, in yielding a strategic Rook. But they will ask a price for it.
The question now is: what was the price? Taiwan? A complete free hand with Ukraine?
PDJT’s strongest skill set is now on display. What Deal has he made?
They know what they have to lose.
There are alternate sources of oil that can be made part of this discussion.
So, your point about oil is moot.
Of those mentioned .. Pakistan is likely to comply as Iran has sponsored the Taliban attacks on Pakistan from Afghanistan as well as from the large enclaves of Taliban left in Northern Pakistan from the Russian-Afghan War (sponsored by the US CIA) as well as driven there during the US Operations in Afghanistan.
China can be bought … but China Inc. has to spin a reason a BRICS member is being “betrayed”.
Russia is a real problem. Russia (and USSR) have a very long history of loyalty to foreign partners … no matter the cost. That will require serious quid pro quo in the Ukraine.
For all the bluster of Erdogan, Turkey is definitely for sale to the highest bidder. Despite the calm looking surface there are well educated younger Turks who are greatly under employed and restless.
Before taking the easy way out to say there is no way … let’s see what happens.
People also need to recognize that since about 2018 … the Shia vs Sunni schism no longer exists, until Islam (in general) gains the “Global Upper Hand”.
The two major Islamic sects have decided to put their internal differences on hold until Islam is the dominant Global Force … then the fight for top dog (insult intended) begins.
OK, but does Russia really need oil?
The problem with Russia is more about “honor” no matter how odd that sounds.
A nation making friends with Russia are friends for life as long as they do not betray the “trust”. Russia will do what they can to honor that the friendship to the best of their ability.
These relationships are the reason China Inc. and BRICS are able to operate in places like Vietnam, Africa and other locations.
Iran is currently counted as a “friend” … and it will take a MAJOR OVERT ACT by the US in the Ukraine, favorable to Russia, as well as lifting Russian Sanctions to change this fact.
There is speculation concerning the burden of the Ukraine war on the Russian economy. Probably nobody including Putin himself knows all the details. Nevertheless eventually buying unnecessary oil from Iran is likely to become pretty expensive.
Russia is not buying Iranian Oil. Why does it have to be oil???
There are other items of interest Iran holds.
OK, what is it?
They know that a number of our lawmakers probably control the NATOnian Ukrainian piano playing midget.
President Harry S. Truman:
“My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there’s hardly any difference.”
Harry S. Truman
They don’t have to be our allies. They still benefit from the American dollar. We are cutting that off if they persist.
This is a brilliant operation that has been years in the making.
Biden crossed the Rubicon by weaponizing the reserve currency of the world by stealing Russian assets. Assets that were earned by Russia for the oil and gas it sold to its customers. He reduced the United States to a gangster state where might makes right. There’s no benefit to selling your goods and services in US dollars when the gangster US has shown it’s more than willing to steal your hard earned wealth.
That’s why Sundance was posting all those cleaving articles during the Biden administration. Nations were seeking alternatives to the very real risk of the US stealing their wealth.
The only deal Trump has offered Russia, China and Iran individually is complete capitulation to Trump. I listen to The Duran on a somewhat regular basis to get their takes on Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministry readouts. They state that Russia and China have made it clear they will not comply with US sanctions on Iran.
Now that Trump has set the precedent of naval blockades on Venezuela, Cuba and Iran, I wonder what’s going through the minds of the leadership of Taiwan. The last Carrier strike group left the Pacific to relieve the USS Lincoln in the ME. Easy pickings for the Chinese to setup a naval blockade of Taiwan.
I wonder if George Soros is on the list of sanctioned persons? He is the global financier of chaos and destruction. He does it for its own sake and not any ideological reasons save that he wants to destroy everything.
Soros is CIA.
George Sorros and his family business are the bag men for the real financiers.
Their assets are meter money … the value of the Sorros Organization is their pipelines of communications into the cleanest as well as filthiest of places.
They need to be physically eliminated, too bad the old days to CIA black ops are gone vs our real enemies.
Don’t forget Alex Soros who runs the show now along with his wife, Huma Abedin.
That marriage seems like incest…
Secretary Bessent is well familiar with Soros as he used to work for him.
I count that as a major plus.
Soros pere et fil were unavailable for (public) comment…
But I bet the air was thick wherever they may be.
I’m also wondering when Judge Boasberg will step in and shut down this Operation? I wish I were joking. If its not Boasberg, it will be another “judge” of his stripe!
Courts cannot intercede in foreign policy matters.
and yet they keep doing it anyway.
The Mecca Defense Pact is going to cause us a lot of trouble. If Iran joins it, look out.
The MDP should show the administration that the Saudi’s are NOT our friends.
Iran is literally shooting the Saudis. They’re not joining it ffs.
The American System.
Trump World Order.
Hmmm…we’re on the verge of totalitarian Islamo Deocommunism.
This is the kill shot that will bring about total victory over Iran, whether they admit it or not.
This is a huge win for President Trump, the American people, and peace loving people all over the world.
This is a defeat for the globalists, the blood thirsty neocons, the corrupt corporate media, and the lunatic left.
God bless President Trump!
President Trump has presented the world with a very nice carrot and a very big stick!
The fact that Scott Bessent is a *GAY* man who verbally bitch slapped the Iranian regime all over the map with this speech makes it all the more epic.
The late Ayatollah’s son, and heir to the theocratic throne, is purportedly also gay.
With both feet still firmly planted on the roof.
Global elites often don’t practice what they preach to their subjects.
Headline should say: “Gay man throws Iran off the roof of US Treasury building”
Steely and resolute…impressive.
The Enemedia were stuttering as they asked their questions.
I’ve heard his nickname is Big Gay Patton. Fitting!
It will all come down to financial advantage. Secretary Bessent and President Trump will have a hefty job on their hands.
This is going to be a rocky few months. IMO, people like Bannon and others are already throwing shade over this operation. I briefly tuned in and listen to one RAV reporter on his show, that clearly had no idea, espousing his opinion which to my mind completely missed the importance of what was going on. I had to close it down when Bannon immediately changed topic to moaning, as he has been in every episode for days, about the National debt. I can only ever watch the first five minutes of his dialog. I just check in to see what he is up to.
I will be patient and wait to see the results. There is a lot of ambiguity about Canada at the moment so this operation is only going to add to the turmoil. Messaging is going to be the key I think.
Sundance has spoiled me with his insights and knowledge. It is really hard listening to others.
Bannon’s not wrong about the debt. To liken it to personal credit, we’re at the stage of taking cash advances on a new credit card to make the minimum payments on all the other credit cards.
…and the significant others in Congress keep using the credit cards to spending on unnecessary items.
Yeah, but that ship sailed in 2020. Whinging about the debt nowadays is about as meaningless as whining that it’s going to get cold in a few more months.
If you want to have practical and useful discussions about the best methods for people to prepare and ride out the big print that’s cool, but whining as if it’s somehow still avoidable is frankly insufferable at this late hour.
China Inc. can be made financially vulnerable in 4-ways.
First … rescind the JoeBama Auto-Pen order giving them access to our Stock Markets.
Second … rescind the ability of China Inc. banks to operate in the US.
Third … sanction any financial entities dealing with China Inc. Banks.
Fourth … close off and pull out of the Hong Kong Special Banking and Trade District Agreement that gives China Inc. special and open access to US Banks and Export Licenses. Hong Kong is still actually listed as “Trading Partner-Hub” that ranks in the TOP 5 of China Inc. Trading Partners.
I hafta think that Bessent has been working on this Plan for the better part of a year or more — figuring out where the soft targets are; how to squeeze the perps; getting Treadury IT experts ready to shut stuff down; etc etc etc.
The key here is to make anyone still trying to trade with Iran, or to help Iran hide financial assets pay a very heavy price to attempt to do this.
I still say we should bomb every rail and road that crosses an Iran border so stifle physical transport; bomb the seaport facilities abilities to move cargo — Persian Gulf AND Caspian Sea to make it hard to get anything in or out of Iran. And crater all runways in Iran than can handle anything larger than a DC 3 😎
Deliver the pain.
Larry Johnson is saying today, on another blog, that Pakistan is running a land bridge to Iran, trucks loading at their ports and driving freight across the Iran border. Pfui. We are saying nothing about it, while kissing up to the Pakistani brass.
This is a good read from 2024 about Scott Bessent that gives us some interesting background about him, he was a superb choice for this position- moreso than we knew back at the time I’d say.
https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2024/11/12/how-scott-bessent-fought-the-left-while-working-in-george-soross-hedge-fund/
This is President Trump’s war and he has and will pursue it the way he sees fit. I hope he’s right for the sake of a domestic agenda that has delivered on closing our borders and restored investment in domestic jobs.
“Beginning today, the actions of Treasury and other agencies will tighten the noose and block every potential source of revenue that funds the IRGC and the Iranian regime.”
Must be some unhappy people in the E.U. today!
And Congress? Have the lines to their brokers been buzzing today?
One has to ask….
Dayuum! Tell it ALL brother!!!
FULL SPEED AHEAD!!
All those who are wanting to see evil go to prison are getting to see the most evil forces going into financial isolation and ruin.
In our lifetime!!!
Incredible.
Only our President could accomplish this incredible plan.
All evil terrorist supporters ARE ON NOTICE!!!
WE VOTED FOR THIS.

Sounds like the connected are flush with cash. They better be sharing with all the troops, for their own sake…
A massive corruption scandal is exploding inside the Islamic Republic as a senior Pezeshkian official admits BOTH regime factions are involved in a fuel-smuggling racket worth billions.
Esmail Saqab Esfahani, a presidential deputy responsible for fuel optimization and strategic energy management, says both major political wings of the regime are involved in fuel smuggling.
He went even further, warning that if he tried to shut down their operations, “they would smash the windows of my office.”
This is not small-time border smuggling.
Iranian officials have estimated that roughly 20–30 MILLION liters of fuel are smuggled every day. Moving fuel on that scale requires organized access to distribution, storage, transportation and border networks.
The economics are staggering. Iran sells heavily subsidized fuel domestically for a fraction of regional prices, creating an enormous arbitrage opportunity potentially worth billions of dollars annually.
And now a senior government official is effectively saying politically connected networks inside the Islamic Republic are feeding from it and are powerful enough to threaten the officials tasked with stopping them.
Meanwhile, ordinary Iranians are told shortages, deficits and economic misery are entirely the product of sanctions.
The regime subsidizes the fuel with public money, connected networks allegedly siphon it out of the country for enormous profits, and Iranians are left with the shortages and the bill.
This is not corruption around the edges of the Islamic Republic.
It is corruption embedded inside the system itself.

Honestly I think our President is acting like a man that knows his party is winning big come November no matter what!
What Scott Bessent is doing is historic. He is only second to POTUS and that is purely based on his mastering of treasury/finance over his career. He has been so impactful and hasn’t missed the ball once. He has been our MVP and I can’t imagine the administration without him.
As a finance person for my whole life, it is so incredible to see a Sec of Treas actually understand and perform that job. The average person in the US has no idea what the Treasury could actually do legally. We’ve never had an administration until now that knew how to use those tools. Both POTUS and Sec Treas get it and are using it. Its amazing to watch.
MAGA was about focusing on our country. It grew in large part because Americans were tired of leaders like Boy Lindsey who was obsessed with playing Risk.
Now, we’re at $40 Trillion national debt.
Our middle class continues to get beat up, and our young adults still face a relatively bleak future. And we’re obsessed with playing Risk?
Unless Trump reverts to his former self, and quickly, I can’t see him finishing his term.
