As a consequence, Senator Curtis (Utah) and Senator Mark Kelly (AZ) are proposing that individual states should have the right to issue H1B visas and import foreign workers without the federal immigration program in control. Probably more like they are taking truck loads of raw sewage from neighboring towns and spreading it in the fields for fertilizer. They do have sewage disposal problems in some places. Plus, new hiring is bringing on offshores and not employees. This has slid under the covers pretty easily with the focus on H1B & immigration.

I won’t buy lettuce in any store, nor order it in any restaurant. I’ve gotten sick from “fresh food” numerous times, so I either grow it or buy it from a LOCAL farm. There are certain “germs” that can’t be conquered by a quick vinegar rinse. The high end restaurants actually rinse fresh foods in a bleach solution because they can’t afford a bad reputation and the same for raw chicken, which is often dipped in a bleach solution after harvesting. So, you can eat poop lettuce or you can eat poop lettuce with a side of bleach! Mmmmmmm….
Do what I do. Grow your own. Easy, delicious and fun. Of course, where I live that can only happen for about six to seven months out of the year and after the local growing season if I want a salad I have to buy in the grocery store. There are ways to keep your lettuce safer – only buy leaf lettuce as it is easier to clean than head lettuce and always wash well with vinegar or a disinfecting solution and rinse well. Taking care of your produce is a must.
Pretty easy to raise it indoors, under inexpensive LED grow lights, in dollar store plastic basins.

How about the massive lettuce fields of California. We don’t need lettuce from any other country. It’s about the big Corporations making more money.

Those massive fields are harvested by foreign workers from “lesser developed” nations, with questionable hygiene standards.

I accidentally caught the intro to ABC World News Tonight yesterday evening. It was a breathless, run-on three minutes of staccato about how the East Coast was drowning and the West Coast was burning. I’m sure the Mid-West was about to disappear from some unique apocalypse as well, but to be frank I was overwhelmed by David Muir’s recitation of the Book of Revelation and missed the current form of its particular demise. Fortunately there is certain to be another end of the world event tonight, and if inclined I can discover how the media wants me to feel about it.
This is all to explain why I and many others have chosen to increasingly disengage from the fake reality constructed on our screens and engage in real life.
A bag of premium soil costs about 35 dollars. An aluminum planter box costs about 50 dollars. A pack of lettuce seeds costs about four dollars. For less than a hundred dollars in upfront costs you can grow your own lettuce all summer and not have to worry about Mexican poop lettuce, at least for a few months. And when you are outside watering and weeding, the news ticker isn’t constantly reminding you about all the ways the world is about to end.

I don’t understand how a US state can be in charge of interpreting and implementing US Federal policy within that state?
Doesn’t that usurp the Federal government’s power?
Didn’t the Confederate states try a similar thing, deciding that they would determine how to interpret and enforce Federal laws regarding slavery?
