I think Rand Paul will try to get a contempt citation on Fauci, from both the committee and the Senate. I do worry that the only way it could be enforced would be through the DC federal courts, and we know how many Obama/Biden judges there are there.

Fauci/Mengele is ignoring a lawful subpoena by refusing to answer the questions. He has a pardon in his pocket, which legally means he can’t be prosecuted for anything except lying in his answers.
Because Fauci/Mengele is ignoring a lawful subpoena, the Senate has the power to order the Sergeant at Arms to arrest him under its “inherent contempt” power.
The Senate can fine and/or imprison the little monster until he complies.
The Senate won’t do that, though, because the ONLY purpose of the hearing is for the GOP to mouth stern words about Fauci’s conduct and for the Dems to give hysterical speeches about “Orange Man Bad.”

I wish I knew. My mom started her hospice phase about a week into April 2020, after a 3 year battle.
Not only did I hit the empty highways through 5 states, I insisted we do home hospice. I was paying enough attention to already recognize it was BS, but I just knew we wouldn’t be able to get to her otherwise.
What I do know… people in those situations, after transitioning to where they don’t appear conscious… they truly do pick their final exit. Who they want beside them, or waiting to be alone, & when.
Point is, they deserved that opportunity- but countless were denied.
My mom said to me multiple times prior, I don’t want a bunch of people around when I go. I kept stressing b/c there were several close family standing by at her house… But then it clicked.
I placed some flowers & a pic of her with all us kids by her bedside. I went in to get my stepfather who’d been hanging back having spent the past few years taking care of 24/7.
He didn’t want to go, b/c he knew she’d let go when he did. I said she needs you to tell her it’s ok. So he went while we all went to other rooms. 2 minutes later he comes back- “she’s gone.”
My father was in hospital hospice many years ago. I got the call it was time, I raced to the hospital with my sister.
I took his hand & she his other… & less than a minute later, I said “he’s gone.” He waited until we got there, & even though he had been unconscious for well over a week – he knew we were there & had waited.
So it absolutely 💔 that so many dying were waiting for family members to come & be beside them… only to be denied that one final act of grace. Honestly, it’s infuriating.

I recall another hearing of a government employee who gave an opening statement and then proceeded to plead the 5th to every question. It was determined in court that the very fact of her giving a statement at the beginning of the hearing negated her right to plead the 5th and she was found to be in contempt. I cannot remember the specific details as to who it was (maybe Lois Lerner regarding her tenure at the IRS during the Tea Party?) but I do remember that detail being discussed and lawyers commenting that if someone is going to invoke the 5th, they must do so from the very beginning of their testimony and therefore they cannot make an opening statement and still be in compliance with the letter of the law regarding that statute.
This is freaking insufferable.
