Happy Birthday America!
Some will say she is not perfect; they are wrong. It is within our imperfections that she remains uniquely perfect.
Heavenly Father, breathe Your spirit into our land. We beg You to fertilize every seed of right, moral and appropriate pride to stand together in brotherhood, even when we are not united. Let Your light shine through the imperfect cracks of our assembly, creating a bonding love that guides our deeds and decisions.
Lord that grants us the abundance of an expanding universe, let today trigger a revival in our hearts. We ask that You breath your purpose upon the ember of our national soul and ignite within us a thankfulness and appreciation for the blessings that You provide. May the ignition once again focus our stewardship and passion to live according to Your word, on this land which You have provided.
Father, direct Your favor to our thoughts of humility and purpose, so that we may stand bold, steadfast, diligent, honest and true in Your pure light and intent. Expand our heart to see Your gift, grasp its value and embrace this moment of reflection and renewal.
We ask Your blessings to remain as a shield for our nation; covered with Your wings of protection and purpose. We ask You to receive our prayer today and place Your spirit of peace and stability upon our celebration. We cherish the opportunity to rejoice today in the abundance You have provided. Guide us to remain faithful and deserving of Your grace. ~Amen

I am 11th generation directly from Captain Michael Pierce (second in command of the Mayflower on the first voyage and Captain of the Mayflower on the second and final voyage). The previous 10 generations have a multitude of service to the military and to the government as a whole.

I can’t specify how, but my mother was directly descended from someone on The Mayflower.
My dad was first generation born in this country.
I used to think this difference was typical, now it seems being born elsewhere is the norm.
I am a descendant of Wm. Mullins, the shoemaker on the Mayflower, his wife Alice and their daughter, Priscilla their daughter, who lived and married John Alden. Wm. Mullins was a Separatist Pilgrim who signed the Mayflower Compact.
My maternal grandmother was a mail order bride from Lithuania. Her logger husband in Washington was Lithuanian. My paternal grandfather was a coal miner in SW VA. His wife was from nearby TN and chewed Brutons snuff until the day she died. Two of my Mom’s brothers helped build the largest earthen dam at the time and remained cat skinners for the rest of their careers. Mom’s brother in law was the lead mechanical engineer for Boeing’s 747 (also Lithuanian-American and a Navy WWII vet like my Dad). My wife is Venezuelan. All are/were proud to be Americans and thankful for being one.
It doesn’t matter where we’re from. We are the most fortunate people on earth to live here and especially grateful to celebrate our 250th birthday. Over 20 years my wife and I lived on five continents at least twice because of work. Often I have been asked which place have I liked best. I have lived in AK three times and have lived on both coasts and in central US. The answer to the question is simple: USA!!!!

Fort Pierce, Florida, was named after an Army post built there in 1838 during the Second Seminole War. That original military post was named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Kendrick Pierce, a career U.S. Army officer who commanded troops at the fort and was the older brother of U.S. President Franklin Pierce.

WOW! I’ve always been in awe of those men and women with their children who got in those little boats to traverse a sometimes angry sea only to arrive at completely unknown land so they could build a new world where they could live in freedom. Almost unbelievable courage and faith!
And I feel the same about the pioneers who put what they could into wagons and headed west into known and unknown dangers and hardships. We are descended from incredible people, people of amazing faith and resilience. I’ve always thought our unique adventurous industrious independent spirit as Americans came from them.

My Italian ancestors came in late 1890s and early 1910s, my Irish ancestors came in the 1840s and 1860s and my maternal grandfather came in 1926 from Scotland.
Half my wife’s family are Lakota on her mom’s side and he dad’s family are English and Austrian…don’t know when they came but it was before the War of Northern Aggression and after the Revolution of 1776.

So this Independence Day, and all days moving forward, I’m asking my fellow Americans to make a conscious effort to show and restore our nation’s pride, because it is quite literally a matter of National Security. My 4th great grandfather, Frederick Filler, enlisted in the Maryland Flying Camp in July of 1776. It was a special unit of Germans from Maryland who were used to supplement various units in General Washingtons army. He ended up in the German Regiment and fought in battles from Manhattan to Trenton, crossing the Delaware with General Washington, spending the winter with Gen Washington at Valley Forge and fighting at Brandywine. He was captured by the British but was able to escape. He finally mustered out after three years of battles in 1779. He finally settled in Bedford County, Pa, in the Colerain area.
