Justice Thomas should be sitting in the seat that CJ John Roberts occupies.
There are many who can relate…
Your telling me Betsy.
Me and so many millions more burdened by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) between Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia.
Awful I know, dear sir.
Add in these AI Data Centers which are being built in shocking, inexplicable haste all over the nation. I can’t remember feeling as uneasy as I do now about where we are…. with everything.
Green are operating centers – brown and grey are planned.
Current power use – 18,505 MW
Power use of planned centers – 330,432 MW
Then there’s the water and land issues…
Yes, all of it.
Something terribly wicked this way comes.
Most liklely has arrived.
Yep. NYS is being hit hard and the companies who own the utilities are foreign companies on top of everything else. It’s becoming a real big issue here in NYS.
After safe, cheap nuclear power was regulated out of favor and after pouring trillions into worthless wind farms, working people pay crippling prices for household power.
Google however, magically deems nuclear to be “sustainable” and the streets are paved with gold for them to build three 600 megawatt nuclear power plants. That’s more than double the generating capacity of the state of Vermont.
No one asks where the money comes from. No one asks how Google gets around regulatory controls that have stopped the power companies. No one asks why we have to buy expensive natural gas and coal power when Google gets cheap nuclear – all for AI and mass surrveleince aimed at us.
https://sustainablepowernews.com/tech-giant-google-bankrolls-nuclear-plants-ai-power-play/
Natural gas is needed in the winter, in cold climates. Ain’t no manipulating the northern weather, no matter how hard they try to convince us of ‘climate change’…..
Converting power plants to natural gas from coal was another intended blow .
More natural gas up in the Northeast would be great, except we can’t move it from points father South like Pennsylvania for want of pipelines in between.
Much of the natural gas used is imported as LNG through a terminal in Massachusetts or Rhode Island last I knew, then decompressed to fuel the gas turbines keeping the lights on in the region. Not cheap energy.
Ditto fuel oil being a somewhat cheaper option for heating homes.
A drop in the bucket…note the 1,000 homes used for reference…
It’s strange – many people talk about the negative effects of all the illegal aliens consuming resources and jacking up prices – but some of the same people don’t bat an eyelash if it’s a machine…
This is from yesterday and people don’t understand power plant operations. I worked in them most of my career.
A radiator is a close loop system that uses AIR to cool.
A steam turbine is a closed loop system that uses water to cool.
A steam boiler and turbine is a somewhat closed loop system. Steam is generated, sent to a steam turbine that makes electricity and returns the boiler as condensate. But there are losses like steam traps, leaks and blow-down. Makeup water is needed to combine with the condensate to make feed water but that is not the real water user.
A steam turbine needs a vacuum to function. That is produced by having the steam cooled in the condenser. If the condenser gets to hot vacuum is lost and the turbine trips offline. So cooling WATER in great volumes is needed. There are two types. Once through and cooling towers. Once through uses big reservoirs of water like rivers, lakes and sometime the sea water. It uses screens to remove debris that could lodge in the condenser. They create thermal pollution.
Cooling towers can also do the job in areas without a lot of surface water but they need a lot of water often sucked from aquifers. The warm water is run down the inside of the tower with big fans at the top supply air, this causes lots of evaporation back into the atmosphere. That loss demands huge amounts of makeup water. That moisture (water is lost and may be part of rain hundreds of miles away). That is a little simple but explains it well enough for here. Anyone that has seen a power plants cooling towers has seen the huge plumes of steam rising off them at times. Depending on the ambient temp the plume may not be visible. If the air is hot you won’t see the plume, it the air is cooler you will see the plume.
So automobile is closed loop with outside air cooling
Power plant is closed loop with outside water cooling
They use different cooling mediums.
https://www.machcooling.com/How-Does-a-Cooling-Tower-Work-in-a-Power-Plant-id46057675.html
Energy Saving & Environmental ProtectionCompared with discharging hot water directly into rivers or lakes—which can damage aquatic ecosystems—cooling towers are far more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
They also reduce the demand for fresh water, which is critical in water-scarce regions.
See my reply to you in today (Thursday’s) thread – the water usage has NOTHING to do with the power GENERATION side of the equation.
Nor is the method you described used for most AI data centers. There’s an article in the Thursday reply detailing this.
Another perspective…
A progressive pope takes aim at AI and risks killing its miracles
(The pope’s new encyclical links AI to the Industrial Revolution, ignoring how that era lifted millions from poverty)
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/progressive-pope-takes-aim-ai-risks-killing-miracles
It’s easy to decide for oneself. Here’s the text of the Encyclical.
Encyclical Letter of His Holiness Leo XIV Magnifica Humanitas (15 May 2026)
Yep. I read that and Pope Leo makes some good points.
Meta is pushing their AI app on Facebook and I’ve already seen videos and pictures of family members that are not real. These were made in jest but in the wrong hands they could be made to incriminate someone. As the technology advances it will become harder to know what is real and what is not.
Machines don’t produce “miracles” – only God does.
God also can use humans as instruments for miracles. Building things. Tearing things down. Just their presence to the right person at the right time. Imagination is often a miracle divinely inspired.
You are definitely committed…
Definately committed to God and his miracles.
AI and data center boom not so much.
Info is knowledge though. The more you have from all considerations and perspectives the better. I travel slow on these things.
The humanitarian concerns are real. But some of the rage and fears smell like it is manufactured (much like they did with Climate change, Covid, etc). So I am cautious on both sides of the issue.
There is nothing of God in the intended uses and concepts of the AI data centers…but there is quite a bit from the other side of the equation.
He may be right about some things, but….
I’m still not over the Pope’s climate justice activism based on false science….and his actual blessing of an ice block.

John Thune goes ‘all in’ for Ken Paxton
Excerpt:
Thune announced his support of Paxton on the Hugh Hewitt show Wednesday afternoon, less than a day after the bloody primary fight in the Lone Star State concluded.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/john-thune-goes-ken-paxton-bitter-primary-ripped-gop-apart
Of COURSE he has. In public.
He may be an obstructionist saboteur, but he can read the political landscape as it pertains to his sinecure.
In private?
Exactly right Betsy, if his plan to lose a house of Congress to Dems comes to fruition then a Paxton win is significantly mitigated and a few insincere words costs him nothing either way.
He lies more easily than he breathes, John.
Practice makes perfect.
Another example of how journalism is failing, even from a supposedly conservative site.
“President Donald Trump threatened Wednesday to “blow up” Oman if the longtime U.S. ally sided with Iran in seeking joint control over the Strait of Hormuz, according to reporting from the New York Post, Reuters and other outlets covering a White House Cabinet meeting.
“If Oman doesn’t behave, we’re gonna have to blow them up,” Trump said during the meeting, according to the New York Post.“
Once again the usual suspects are involved. Why would Newsmax even publish this article?
https://www.newsmax.com/us/trump-has-tough-words-for-ally-oman-as-hormuz-standoff-escalates/2026/05/27/id/1257710/
Journalists have a responsbility to report what they see and hear.
Why are you blaming Newsmax?? They are simply doing their job.
Maybe the President shouldn’t be saying hot garbage like that.
The garbage in your world is yourself.
You can’t run fast enough to get away from it.
The only solution in to start learning the facts if life. Reality will bite you in the butt if you pretend.
So, wake up and smell the roses. No one can pay you enough to make your garbage life worth it.
You’re a nut.

Democrats break with scandal-plagued Graham Platner, warn of ‘civil war’ in party
Excerpt:
“Democrats’ shift from quietly distancing themselves from Platner to openly disavowing him proves his baggage is catching up with him, and Maine voters won’t excuse it,” NRSC spokesperson Bernadette Breslin told Fox News Digital. “Platner’s deviant, scandal-plagued history is only the beginning of the problems he has ahead.”

The one and only E Jean Carroll….looking at ‘perjury’.
Now that is good news Aggiegirl. This lunatic fantasy novel fraud should get her head handed to her, not millions of dollars for making stuff up and trying to harm the reputation of Pres.Trump. She somehow got herself talked into playing a game of fantasy novel romance but in a real court room. Any sane person would have never believed her story at all but the courts in NYC were all lined up and following orders along with a tainted jury pool it seems. The whole thing was absurd on every level and now I hope all the truth comes out and they get the reward they deserve for being the liars and frauds they all are.

One of the aspects overlooked concerning the IRGC, Iran, and the Iranian people – the detrimental effects on the people’s lives. Reminds me of what things head towards with Dims in control.
Iran has open the spigot a bit on the internet and a question was asked of people – “How are things.” The responses from Iranians is telling…

Almost as loony as Dims…
By his own pretzel logic, he should sit down and shut the….
“Yeah, I do wanna talka bout that BUT…” (‘I’m not gonna answer you’)
chaff & redirect to deflect – because he’s got zero viable rebuttal to any of it.
Oh boy, more massive fraud by the usual suspects. Think the administration was close to spot on when they said if all the fraud was eliminated the budget would balance.
No one in power wants to close the loopholes because it’s those in power who open them. Always a cut for the big guy.
That would be one of the uncomfortable conversations 😉
More on the Texas Dim Senate candidate’s positions from his recent past…
Even more recent…
I am sure the likes of T Boone Pickens might have something to say about this…especially since he is a big donor to many institutions of higher learning. One of which is my nursing alma mater…
Gee Mr. Pickens, just a paltry 5 million for the ladies?
AI: “T. Boone Pickens donated a total of $160 million to the University of Texas system, primarily through his foundation in 2007.
This included $50 million each to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Additionally, he donated $5 million to UT Dallas in 2007 for brain health research, with later contributions bringing the total to UT Dallas to over $11 million by 2010. “
AI: “The building is the T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences – Dallas Center, part of Texas Woman’s University (TWU). It is named after Texas oilman and entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens, who donated $5 million to the building’s fundraising campaign.”
And….for his own alma mater:
T. Boone Pickens gave approximately $652 million to Oklahoma State University (OSU)….
This massive donation was split virtually equally between athletics and academics, including:
Pickens was an OSU alumnus (class of 1951) and a lifelong supporter of his alma mater; he did not make these contributions to the University of Oklahoma.
And of course, there is this:
AI: “Pickens attended Texas A&M for one year after receiving a basketball scholarship, but the university canceled his scholarship when his athletic career faltered, leading him to transfer to Oklahoma A&M (now OSU).
Texas A&M’s own publications have since cited the decision to drop Pickens as one of the “top 10 mistakes in Aggie history.”
Almost a billion dollars in ‘play’ money, for academia…I cannot fathom that kind of money.
He passed away in 2019.
He’s a contemporary of the original Pistol Pete – a real living-person as mascot

Any resemblance to T. Boon? One would think they’d give a nod.
Another positive economic indicator related to the industrial sector…
“Chinese in military fatigues…” Border Patrol protecting the homeland.
On 5/26/26, @TxDPS Tracking K-9 Bona and her handler assisted the U.S. Border Patrol in Maverick County, tracking, locating, and apprehending seven illegal immigrants attempting to evade capture on a private ranch. The group, from Mexico, Guatemala, India, Ecuador, and Cuba, was referred to the U.S. Border Patrol.
In a second apprehension later that night, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 12 illegal immigrants on a private ranch in Maverick County, including six Special Interest Aliens (SIAs) from China, all dressed in camouflage.
These apprehensions highlight the ongoing efforts in deterring criminal activity along the southern border and the critical partnership between Texas DPS and our federal partners under Operation Lone Star. Border security is national security.

I just remembered something from a couple months ago. Trump secured pledges from the companies building these large data centers (Ratepayer Protection Pledge). Will they hold up to their end of the bargain? Don’t know yet.

President Trump Secures Historic Commitment to Keep Electricity Costs Down Amid Data Center Boom
Excerpt:
White House Special Advisor for AI and Crypto David Sacks: “Today President Trump obtained a pledge from America’s leading tech companies that new data centers would not increase electricity prices for residential consumers. These companies (including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI) signed the ‘Ratepayer Protection Pledge; under which they agree to cover the costs of all new power generation required for their data centers, ensuring such costs are not passed onto American households. This is a much better approach to affordability than Bernie Sanders’ total ban on new data centers, which would halt the construction boom currently driving wage growth and job growth for blue-collar workers. In fact, the Ratepayer Protection Pledge will lower electricity prices when AI companies pay for grid upgrades and sell their excess power back to the grid. Since the beginning of his second term, President Trump has championed the idea of letting our leading AI companies become power companies, and now this idea is becoming a reality thanks to his leadership and the commitments of these strong American companies. The right approach to data centers is not to stop progress altogether, but rather to protect residential rate payers from price increases, while making it easier to stand up new power generation.”

“Pledges” versus reality…
Monitoring Analytics, the federally mandated independent watchdog that keeps an eye on the critical PJM Interconnection that distributes power around the U.S., said in a new report that a massive 75.5% increase in power costs in the largest region of the U.S. has been directly caused by data centers, and it also blamed the regional market operator for failing to keep up with the rising demand. The price increases have been steep; wholesale electricity prices went up from $77.78 per MWh in the first quarter of 2025 to $136.53 per MWh in the same period of this year.
“The price impacts on customers have been very large and are not reversible,” the watchdog said in the report. “The price impacts will be even larger in the near term unless the issues associated with data center load are addressed in a timely manner, prior to the next BRA (base residual auction), scheduled for June 2026.” Monitoring Analytics says that PJM Interconnection is trying to rewrite the rules for the capacity market and bake in data center demands into its forecasts. The watchdog is critical of this proposal as it will raise the prices for all electricity consumers, putting an unnecessary burden on households and small businesses.
Study by the federal government’s designated independent watchdog
Of course – businesses also said that the gene therapy injections would be safe, effective, and low cost during operation warp speed…and the government said that the Patriot Act was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Or perhaps this look at the power issue by Consumer Reports…
https://www.consumerreports.org/data-centers/ai-data-centers-impact-on-electric-bills-water-and-more-a1040338678/
Then there is a cost most people don’t talk about – the cost on most everything else due to the massive consumption of building materials and power distribution systems for the centers – driving things like copper higher and higher, effecting power company costs for power distribution to new homes, repairs on existing power distribution systems, wiring costs for homes and other businesses, and on, and on, and on.
Side note – AI loads when actually being used tend towards huge spikes of power…which can wreck havoc with common power grids…
