Senator Josh Hawley called the U.S. Senate’s pro forma session to order on Tuesday, May 26, 2026
No business was conducted during the brief meeting, which was held to prevent the President from calling a recess appointment while the Senate was technically in session. (They are on vaca.)

To conduct business, the U.S. Congress requires a quorum—a majority of its members present.. 218 housecritters, 51 senatecritters. Any one, single congresscritter could show up and request a quorum. That number would have to stay rather than go on a factfinding trip to Paris, or from being out hustling donations.
Here’s hoping Ken Paxton is honest enough to not support the “we’re in session” lie.

I am asking an honest question because I do not know the answer.
How would a Senator (in this case Hawley) go about it if they wished to pushed back against Thune and allow the President to make recess appointments? Would they simply have to show up, as assigned, and then, without any prior announcement (except maybe to the White House so they would be ready to go) just NOT call the Senate to order?
Does Thune only select people to perform this task that he knows will follow through and do his bidding or is it just done on a rotating basic? Are there NO Senators that have the cojones to stand up to the machine? Does leadership have dirt on ALL of them?

They start these things with a vote calling for objections and then when none objects declare it unanimous.
An objection would only force a roll call vote. It would still pass. Just delay everybody. Maybe force a few missed and rescheduled flights. No one wants to upset their colleagues whose ‘bags are packed, they’re ready to go’.
And it has become an us versus him power game. Presidents are not allowed to skip Senate approval. It would take some courage to stand up for the country against the Senate. And they have all already abandoned the country to deny the President so many appointments.
I wonder if the retaliation would be more than just losing committees, maybe even censure. Would they expel a member for betrayal of the Senate?

Aaron, I respect you so much that I actually went and READ the entire brief. You are not reporting it accurately. The Solicitor General specifically argued that any state law that actually barred all consideration of religious accommodations would be preempted by Title VII. That principle, if applied, would generally favor religious accommodation claimants (far more than 2nd Circuit rulings). This is 4D chess and protects religious liberty.

Aaron Siri’s tweet is misleading. The Trump DOJ brief DOES NOT SAY at all that medical exemptions are fine but religious ones aren’t—it actually says Title VII REQUIRES reasonable religious accommodations and would PREEMPT any state law blocking them.
In this case, they made a narrow call to skip Supreme Court review in this one old, already-repealed NY case—because it’s a weak, fact-specific dispute (full exemption vs. other options like reassignment) that’s not worth the Court’s time.
The brief explicitly states the opposite of Siri’s framing on the core legal principle..
“Petitioners are correct that, if New York law foreclosed any consideration of religious accommodations, it would be preempted by Title VII… Title VII would preempt a state law that precludes an employer from attempting to reasonably accommodate an employee’s religious practice.”

There are no assigned seats, have seen where they have made some changes to that now.
Boarding number is if you are willing to pay extra for a seat and when you confirm your flight after the window for confirmation opens.
Depending on the departure city there will be from 3 to a dozen or more folks like the above that have to use wheelchairs to board as such they have all the front rows.
A miracle happens at 30,000 ft during the flight and they all walk off at destination, Oh Hallelujah another miracle flight can be heard thru the plane.

Judges Panel Blocks Pro-GOP Redistricted Alabama Map
A federal panel of judges has declared Alabama cannot move forward with its redrawn map that would be more favorable to Republicans and compliant with a U.S. Supreme Court decision against racist gerrymandering.
Fox News posted on X Tuesday morning, “BREAKING: A three-judge federal panel is temporarily blocking Alabama from using a newly proposed congressional map that Republicans hope would improve their chances in a key U.S. House race.” Instead, “The court ordered the state to keep using the court-approved districts from the 2024 elections while the long-running redistricting case continues.”
Remember, nearly all the “Trump” judges were recomennded to him by those who were making sure that their Judges were nominated and accepted. Not Judges who would necessarily follow the Constitution.

Love how the immediate response to Paxton’s Rino-crushing victory is for some posters to immediately pivot to, ‘oh dear Thune will make life hard for us’. It’s almost as if they cannot allow any victory celebrations before dooming the thread.
I’ll also make another observation, some of those same posters were intimating that the result was in doubt, a week before. When as we know the result was not even close.

If prices in general actually continue to rise (I missed your evidence), I’ll continue to purchase what I can afford. Visits to my local farmers’ markets may not be much cheaper than a grocery, but putting the money in the hands of the producer of my eggs and veggies feels better.
Travel plans will be adjusted according to what I may be able to afford.

I spent nearly the entire four years of his first term filled with skepticism about his motives. (You see. Even my glass is occasionally half-empty.) I am now convinced his goals are the same as mine. Restore America to something nearer to the dream of our founders.

American oil production greater than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined, billions of dollars of fraud money recovered, 4 billion in treasury revenue from new oil leases, a new fed chair with positive ideas, reconstruction, repair, and general clean up of DC and our monuments, enough social security fraud finding underway that could make it solvent again, billions of business loan fraud stopped with money recovered, Venezuela and America cooperating to export 10 million barrels of oil with money actually helping those people, and much more that shows our economy is on the right track.
You just have to open your eyes a bit more to see.
Another View… Well TP, I have no idea about Texas so Ill have to take your word for what’s going on there but here in upstate NY the traffic is heavy duty. Starts Friday thru the weekend, people are out enjoying the milder weather, out door markets and events are packed.
And while people hate paying more for groceries I find that restaurants are busy and there’s usually a wait for a table. Go figure.

My area happens to be heavily dependent upon tourism- so yeah, there has been a whole lot of canceled summer vacations. I can’t imagine people are very happy about this.

Cancelling the family trip to Wally World is not a life changing decision. If people are going to vote differently because of that then they have shallow minds.
I stopped at Sprouts today to pick up a few things. Shock: I saw maybe 20 items with a lower price. I stayed longer than expected to loop around the store, and sure enough I found lower prices almost everywhere.
It wasn’t much, mostly a dollar. But if you were doing a big shopping trip that would add up. An example was frozen sockeye salmon in a package of six was down a couple of dollars.
I did a restocking shop at Krogers day before yesterday and found some very good “specials.”
So my sense is that grocery prices are coming down.
I’m in Las Vegas so gas prices are high. But as President Trump said in the cabinet meeting one way or another they will be down when Iran is settled.
So far I have no idea why this happened. But it’s the first time since shortly after Biden took office. I’m thrilled.
It doesn’t bother me to read those concerns.

Siri screwed up in his critique, and too many people won’t dig deeper to find out what this is really about. If you look deeper, you’ll see that this is not the DOJ treating faith as second-class. It was simply a strategic move to wait for a better case to bring to SCOTUS.

On an optimistic note, I was just watching the 12th cabinet meeting and all the things they are discussing are focused on the American people and making our country great again. Really, watch one of these and it gives one a sense that things are turning around and the incompetent destructive policies of Biden/Obama/democrats will be overcome.
The mainstream media never covers the good. It’s all negative and purposely designed to tear us down. So many positive little things are discussed that never make it to the masses. It’s refreshing to watch the event without some hack interrupting so that they can downplay all that is being accomplished.
Yes, President Trump is a master CEO. Contrary to many who try to undermine him by lambasting his picks, he picks excellent people and knows how to set them up so they can do their jobs. This cabinet in an excellent example.

The Shah was the constitutional monarch operating under the 1906 constitution, who legally removed the prime minister Mossadegh–a Qajar aristocrat, who himself refused to hold the elections he promised, because he knew that he would lose. When he refused to vacate his office after receiving the official notice from the Shah, the military with the massive support of the people rose up and removed them himself.
2) There has been no serious attempt to get the Iranians to rise up, as there was no need to under Pahlavi, and was useless under the iron fisted rule of the Ayatollahs.
3) All the Iranians need now are arms, they have had 50 years of champing at the bit held by the mullahs; the pent up anger is massive.
4) The IRGC is decimated on all fronts.

The issue here is NOT that Bama can’t redistrict — but that they can’t do it AFTER “election season” [early voting] has already started.
The Bama legislature passed a measure to defer the House elections in order for the new map to be installed and candidates for the new districts to be identified. Dems are suing to stop that maneuver.
There is a twist to the plot – they aren’t redistricting per say. They didn’t draw up a new map (yet). They are using a map that was already passed and thrown out by a court based upon a legal ruling that SCOTUS has overturned. What they are doing is saying – “the original court ruling throwing the map out was invalid and should be considered null and void, restoring the map approved before this year.”
It’s restorative – and as a result, may well be supported by SCOTUS.
The most obvious IC ploy right now is that Platner was picked as the Dem candidate to help Susan Collins get re-elected. And it reveals just how bad of a candidate they had to find to make that possible.
