Morning, dear zoom ☕💕 Too early, so say my two semi functioning, uncaffeinated brain cells, to remember something I read recently about peanut butter for dogs (ill advised but can’t remember the reason), so I am glad you posted this. It comports with what I read about the use of of xylitol in lowcal sweetness for humans.Natural peanut butters got a pass, and there are some. So label reading is essential.
If when we are granddog sitting our Maggie (The “Mags”) and she is on medication is our go to. She gobbles it so quickly, there is no chance the surreptitious pill will ever be noticed.
One thing we discovered when a rat got into our attic. Rat traps with a mixture of peanut butter on a bit of carrot works a treat. Something the exterminator who helped us do the deed don’t know…or believe, until he saw the results. I guess if the PB has xylitol in it, all the better 😂
i would still read the natural p.b. labels very carefully,
as xylitol is technically derived from “natural sources” (organic),
and product labeling can be, shall we say, flexible.
i pill manually if needed 😆 , but have also used boiled meatballs
(ground beef, turkey, chicken, venison, or lamb)
with the pill hidden in the middle.
for suspicious dogs, try giving one no-pill meatball first,
then the pill meatball, quickly followed by another no-pill meatball.😂

I always kept a can of cheese, yes, canned cheese, on hand for dog pills. Squeeze some cheese from the can onto the pill and down it goes. Easy and no mess.

I find plain old butter works pretty well, but, in an emergency you can always pry open their jaws, situate the pill at the back of their tongue and hold mouth closed till they swallow. Not fun for all involved, but does work.

A woman stood over her dog with a a plate which had one single bit of something which hid the pill. Her dog was looking up expectantly. Then she gradually edged the obscured pill to the edge of the plate until it fell to the floor. Gobbled up almost before it hit.

There was finally a treat made for horses that was a cube of alfalfa with a hollowed out pocket full of molasses to push the pill into. Blue and my late Queenie loved those treats. Made it so much easier to give them a pill.
With cats, I finally crushed the pill, mixed it with water or broth and used a syringe to shoot it into their mouth, but I had to be very quick doing it! I still sometimes got some battle wounds, but not near as many.😂
I figured someone who loves and knows horses would develop an easy peasy method. Hadn’t thought of a syringe for cats, you canny thing you….😎👍🏻

Oh I so love German Shepherds. I wouldn’t mind having another one. Maybe I could adopt an older one at some point. Younger ones would just be a bit to much for me now.
My sister in law and her carriage driving partner, the latter who judged at Crufts in the UK, took a German Shepherds Chris rescued from a boss of his who had him tied up in a barren piece of property he owned as a guard dog.
Long story very short, the local county animal protection came out to Shirley us small holding and wanted to vet both ladies as suitable caretakers. The typical know nothing jobsworths busybody. So not standing on ceremony, she was not taken kindly to, received short shrift, and was seen on her way and out the gate.
Jack was so lovely and as they were two ladies on their own with lots of tack and equipment for their horses, an able protector who earned his keep more than once. Bless him…

Well we had one with our cat Sammy and it gave him lots of exercise which is very, very good for them specially if they’re mostly indoor Kitty’s.

It’s good too see you too, dear Bet. As I explained earlier—lost ‘net access for several days, power was unreliable, two large trees fell in backyard and front yard. I tried to do some mandatory trimming but quickly realized that age communicated quickly that I’m too old for this chit. Fortunately, I had some tree pros who quickly got me sorted out. It sure is great to be back to normal—75ft tree was gone in a matter of hrs. As you know I so enjoy normalcy, something I haven’t had for days and days. I *think* things are ok now ( small o and small k intended) so we’ll just have to see. Good to hear from you, love. Be blessed and be well, dear friend.

This brings back such a great memory. When I was 12 my mom, dad, brother, and I went to NYC and stayed in a high rise hotel for 2 nights. This was quite out of the norm for us, being at that time on a really tight budget.
We lived only 60 miles away, but rarely went to NY.

To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? but when you’re hollering at your dog for eating some unknown rotted something
in the nature area, which you just know is going to result in vomiting and diarrhea,
but your dog tries super hard to apologize to you, should we not recognize “companion dog”
as a demanding and difficult job as well?😁

Every dog no matter how big or small should have a ‘job’. It doesn’t have to be much but it gives them purpose and keeps them happy. A friend had a German Shorthair that wasn’t doing well. She took it to a pet psychologist who said it needed a job. They made the dog a vest with pockets. She owned a restaurant and when she went into basement to get stuff she filled the vest’s pockets and it was the dogs job to bring the stuff upstairs. The dog responded beautifully and was a happy dog after he got his job.
this is the truest bit of advice any dog owner will ever get.

COMMENTARY FOR MATTHEW 5:11
Christ’s sermon on the mount. (1,2) Who are blessed. (3-12) Exhortations and warnings. (13-16) Christ came to confirm the law. (17-20) The sixth commandment. (21-26) The seventh commandment. (27-32) The third commandment. (33-37) The law of retaliation. (38-42) The law of love explained. (43-48)
1,2 None will find happiness in this world or the next, who do not seek it from Christ by the rule of his word. He taught them what was the evil they should abhor, and what the good they should seek and abound in.
3-12 Our Saviour here gives eight characters of blessed people, which represent to us the principal graces of a Christian. 1. The poor in spirit are happy. These bring their minds to their condition, when it is a low condition. They are humble and lowly in their own eyes. They see their want, bewail their guilt, and thirst after a Redeemer. The kingdom of grace is of such; the kingdom of glory is for them. 2. Those that mourn are happy. That godly sorrow which worketh true repentance, watchfulness, a humble mind, and continual dependence for acceptance on the mercy of God in Christ Jesus, with constant seeking the Holy Spirit, to cleanse away the remaining evil, seems here to be intended. Heaven is the joy of our Lord; a mountain of joy, to which our way is through a vale of tears. Such mourners shall be comforted by their God. 3. The meek are happy. The meek are those who quietly submit to God; who can bear insult; are silent, or return a soft answer; who, in their patience, keep possession of their own souls, when they can scarcely keep possession of anything else. These meek ones are happy, even in this world. Meekness promotes wealth, comfort, and safety, even in this world. 4. Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness are happy. Righteousness is here put for all spiritual blessings. These are purchased for us by the righteousness of Christ, confirmed by the faithfulness of God. Our desires of spiritual blessings must be earnest. Though all desires for grace are not grace, yet such a desire as this, is a desire of God’s own raising, and he will not forsake the work of his own hands. 5. The merciful are happy. We must not only bear our own afflictions patiently, but we must do all we can to help those who are in misery. We must have compassion on the souls of others, and help them; pity those who are in sin, and seek to snatch them as brands out of the burning. 6. The pure in heart are happy; for they shall see God. Here holiness and happiness are fully described and put together. The heart must be purified by faith, and kept for God. Create in me such a clean heart, O God. None but the pure are capable of seeing God, nor would heaven be happiness to the impure. As God cannot endure to look upon their iniquity, so they cannot look upon his purity. 7. The peace-makers are happy. They love, and desire, and delight in peace; and study to be quiet. They keep the peace that it be not broken, and recover it when it is broken. If the peace-makers are blessed, woe to the peace-breakers! 8. Those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake are happy. This saying is peculiar to Christianity; and it is more largely insisted upon than any of the rest. Yet there is nothing in our sufferings that can merit of God; but God will provide that those who lose for him, though life itself, shall not lose by him in the end. Blessed Jesus! how different are thy maxims from those of men of this world! They call the proud happy, and admire the gay, the rich, the powerful, and the victorious. May we find mercy from the Lord; may we be owned as his children, and inherit his kingdom. With these enjoyments and hopes, we may cheerfully welcome low or painful circumstances.
13-16 Ye are the salt of the earth. Mankind, lying in ignorance and wickedness, were as a vast heap, ready to putrify; but Christ sent forth his disciples, by their lives and doctrines to season it with knowledge and grace. If they are not such as they should be, they are as salt that has lost its savour. If a man can take up the profession of Christ, and yet remain graceless, no other doctrine, no other means, can make him profitable. Our light must shine, by doing such good works as men may see. What is between God and our souls, must be kept to ourselves; but that which is of itself open to the sight of men, we must study to make suitable to our profession, and praiseworthy. We must aim at the glory of God…

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
