Rubio says early in the video that the Iranian regime might want to set up a “tolling system” in the Strait of Hormuz, which he says would be illegal and unacceptable. Aside from saying it in the context of the regime still being in place after the war is over, which definitely should not be the case, it brings up question of the international nature of the strait. As it is right now, both Iran and Oman claim so much of the strait that there is no international passage through the middle of it. Trump and Rubio should be insisting that a change be made so that there is a passage through the strait that is international waters that Iran does not have any right to control, regardless of what the Iranian government looks like when peace is restored.
The width of the strait varies between about 24 to 60 miles across. There normally is a two-lane shipping route through the strait, each two miles wide and separated by two miles. That is a minimum of 6 miles through the middle of the strait. Allowing for the customary 3 miles of territorial waters for both countries, there should be adequate space for an international passage. But both Iran and Oman each claim 12-miles, meaning that at it’s narrowest there is no passage consisting only of international waters through there. The U.S. has never recognized either claim and whatever the resolution is to this war it should include withdrawal of both claims and future international recognition of a safe passage that neither Iran or Oman can impede.
Didn’t I read where Oman wants to build a canal to bypass the Strait? Or did I dream that?
Have heard people throwing that idea around, but don’t know if it is something Oman actually wants to do. Of course, if the mullahocracy in Tehran survives, then such a canal might one day be just another target for them.

Sec Rubio mentioned a few times that he told the nations most affected by the situation with Iran and the Hormuz Straight that they need to step up and do something as they are the most hurt by what Iran is doing and proposing, the charging of fees for ships to pass through the straight.
There was news today that Iran missiles hit locations in Saudi Arabia and that nation, along with that of the UAE have both stated they intend to step up and hit back. Now we see if the nations in the middle east put up, or keep on shutting up when it comes to defending their territory and their people.
And then the question will be, if they put up, do they become a huge combination of militarized middle east nations working as one functioning unit that could, down the road, align with China??? I disagree. I think ground troops are needed to finish the job. So to me, this statement is bold. Secretary Rubio may be right. If it is over “in weeks not months” like he says, then that may be satisfactory. Nevertheless, I am worried about the fate of the Iranian people, who are innocent bystanders to this campaign against a terrorist regime.
The question to ask are the Iranian people better-off if President Trump did nothing?
