Look at them asking Noem if she’d have ICE agents checking IDs at elections. They know Trump can and will go scorched earth no matter what happens at this point.

What this means is that President Trump has the votes to pass the Save America Act, and so it will pass. The next step is cutting deals with the Senators who are on the fence. These votes are always transactional, the Senators never vote on anything gratis. Favors will be granted and carefully tallied.
This is the system; detest it if you wish. Quit the Republican Party, like James Woods, as if that makes any difference (it doesn’t). It is how business gets done in Washington, D.C. I worked in Toronto for a few months in the 80’s twice and I was surprised how many people from India were there. I was coming from a large US metro area as opposed to a homogonous town. An important case before the Supreme Court is RNC vs Watson (formerly Wetzel) which is whether mail in ballots can be counted after election day. Blue states are notorious for counting mail in ballots after election day until they get the desired results. Yes phantom ballots using commercial or non-residential addresses like Walmart, 7-11, a vacant lot, the UPS mail box store etc. are a tool of the election thieves. For example California had a ‘voter’ who had been voting for 20 years using the local college dorm as their residential address. Voter roll clean-up is a must also.
Please do not overlook mobility-challenged voters, especially seniors & disabled American citizens – who also need mail-in or absentee ballots – whichever a state prefers. Identification info for the vast majority of such voters should be easily verifiable.

I was privileged to meet him once, (and you won’t believe this) at a K-Mart store in the northern Pittsburgh suburbs. He was alone and riding in one of those scooters. Just shopping like anyone else. No entourage, no assistants, just him. I didn’t want to bother him, but he saw me glance at him and our eyes met. He knew I recognized him. He motioned me over and we had a nice little chat. He was exactly the same as on TV. We shook hands and each went on our own way. I’ve met other celebrities, few were as down to earth as he was. It was like talking to your favorite uncle. I will never forget that encounter as long as I live. He was a truly great American.

It would just be different people or perhaps additional people getting paid off in Senatorial campaigns.
I think the real answer is both term limits and shortening the term from 6 years.
They should have at least shortened the term in the 17th.
3,4,5 year terms with a limit on 10-12 years total.
Take Cornyn as an example; he’s already had 4 terms and he’s fighting against Paxton for a 5th. It’s disgusting; give someone else a chance.
These career lifers are what’s wrong with the system; not so much who’s electing them.
And to shut down the States Rights argument, even if the legislators were electing them (repealing 17), nowadays, they wouldn’t be fighting for state’s rights (10th amendment stuff)….. they’d be doing exactly what they do now.

Voting for the leaders in the community you live in gives you much greater concern, interest, and honesty.
Making that vote tabulating more LOCAL also decreases fraud, corruption etc.
There’s no good reason why vote tabulating cannot be done in 4 hours, in hand, kinetically, by a team of 20 counters in a Precinct of 4000 voters. No need for computers, machines, or some “Central” District Authority.

The reason your argument is flawed is because with the current system the Senators are elected by the people – You and Me.

Repealing the 17th merely RESTORES THE LAYER Between the people and the elected – which is the State Legislators – the very reason the 17th was proposed and approved due to the corruption of the candidates who were purchasing the votes of the state legislators.

IOW, repealing the 17th has absolutely nothing to do with making voting more local.
However You are absolutely right about vote counting/tabulating which should be completed in just a few hours, and that we shouldn’t need computers or Dominion machines – which absolutely facilitate cheating, at the drop of a few keystrokes.
Ratifying the 17th required approval of 3/4ths of the legislatures. So the question you have to ask is if legislatures were as corrupt as you imply, why did they give up that power?
IMO a much better explanation is that individual legislators saw their election as tied to the state-wide popularity of Senate candidates and would rather not be beholden to that influence.

Repealing the 16th does nothing. It was a technical amendment over the rule of taxation (uniformity or apportionment) applied to income from property (rents/dividends). In particular it was never questioned that the rule of uniformity applies to an income tax on occupations or employments. If you repealed it I doubt the Supreme Court would find again that a tax on income from rents or dividends would have to be apportioned. As it is I’m more concerned that the Supreme Court would find that a federal “wealth” tax doesn’t need to be apportioned.
The objection raised by progressives that women who marry and change their names would be disenfranchised is true in only a limited number of cases, basically:
no REAL ID or passport
and new voter registration
and name doesn’t match name on birth certificate
and the state is not being helpful in tracing the voter’s citizenship from birth to marriage.
Minnesota still has optional non-REAL-ID driver’s licenses.
