This is a pretty solid position by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who is offering to drop out of the Texas senate race if John Thune and John Cornyn will stop blocking President Trump, eliminate the filibuster and pass the SAVE Act.
Paxton gets a pass at calling Cornyn a “coward,” as the slight is negligible considering the selflessness within the offer. Paxton is a patriot and this is a solid alternative that boosts President Trump.

Exactly. The uniparty Republicans need the filibuster. They hide behind it to pretend like they want to pass bills that are conservative while claiming they just can’t get enough Dems to support their agenda to overcome the 60 vote threshold. Personally I’m leary of removing the filibuster considering that the GOP is our opposition team. They’d lose the Senate in a NY second and the Democrats could have free reign. You don’t make a major play to win the Superbowl with team GOP. That’s a losing hand. DC statehood, 11, 13 SC justices, instant amnesty to millions. You’d lose your country in a second vs the slow decline and at least a hope it gets righted again.

My guess is that Paxton and President Trump (and Bondi) have already worked this plan out. Paxton would have to first get approved by the Senate but Thune perhaps has already assured President Trump (and Paxton) that this will happen.

Yes!!! This was a brilliant move by Paxton. He gets national press as a Trump Trooper, gets the attention of Texas voters who just voted for Cornyn because they did it the last 5 times he ran, and he can exit with grace and political capital in case Trump has told him he’s going to offer to endorse Cornyn in exchange for the Save Act anyway.
Paxton is a scrapper who would do well in the Trump Administration where he would have leeway to act. I disagree with the commenter who said Thune would sacrifice Cornyn and accept Paxton before passing the Save Act. Not only is Cornyn an automatic vote foe whatever Mitch McConnell says (just like Thune), Paxton would be a major pain in the neck for Thune. Paxton would still be stymied in the GOPe Senate, so my wish is that he’d replace Bondi, the choice Trump should’ve made to begin with.

This is another shot telling both Thune and Cornyn that Trump is going to endorse Paxton, and when he does, Thune and the RNC will have to spend $100 million to win a Primary runoff. That takes away from the actual race, vs the Democrat. More so, Cornyn doesn’t beat the Dem if they don’t pass the Save Act.
Thune and Cornyn are caught between a rock and a hard place; the American people get to see firsthand that our elected officials are all for preventing illegals from voting, or they are not. But they also know that both Rs and Ds benefit from election cheating, including the use of illegal votes.

Under Texas law the runoff election will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, so Paxton’s offer will need to be accepted and the SAVE Act on Trump’s desk for signing before that date. That is enough time to get it all done, regardless what Thune and the others may say. Even if they have to make a one time exception to the rules so that it can be passed, there should still be enough time. If it does not happen, then there is all the proof anyone needs about what is more important to them.

Paxton doesn’t have to be confirmed by the senate… There are recess appointments, temporary appointments, or Trump can have DOJ hire Paxton as bondi’s “assistant”, tell bondi to “get out of the way” and let Paxton do bondi’s job that she has been afraid to do.

I agree with you. The shock headlines bury the lede. Noem will have enormous responsibilities and critical decision-making authority. I don’t feel as if this is a Nikky Haley moment. As I posted yesterday, the SAVE Act is the only good reason for Trump to get involved in this primary. But the guarantees about changing procedures to bring it to a vote would have to be ironclad. Otherwise, a mere promise is not enough to saddle the country with six more years of a major RINO like Cornyn.
And even then, Trump will burn some goodwill with the base who know that, if not on this matter, then on another where it matters, Cornyn will betray them.

In hindsight, Allen West should have primaried Ted Cruz in 2024 instead of trying to go after Greg Abbott, which burned too many bridges in Texas. That way, Texas would have both Allen West and Ken Paxton as their Senators in Congress.

Paxton is younger than Cornyn and Texas Republican voters have voted for him multiple times. He has survived the antics of the left and RINOs. He has also survived Lawfare and lies. Something to think about. President Trump’s endorsement would put him over the finish.
