This is a rather unusual approach for President Trump to take. President Trump draws attention to the Texas Republican senate race between John Cornyn and Ken Paxton, which will now turn to a run-off election.
As noted in his Truth Social post, President Trump will be endorsing one of the two candidates and subsequently asks the non-endorsed candidate to exit the race.
[Via Truth Social] – “The Republican Primary Race for the United States Senate in the Great State of Texas, a State I LOVE and won 3 times in Record Numbers (the HIGHEST vote ever recorded, by far!!!), cannot, for the good of the Party, and our Country, itself, be allowed to go on any longer. IT MUST STOP NOW! We have an easy to beat, Radical Left Opponent, and we have to TOTALLY FOCUS on putting him away, quickly and decisively! Both John and Ken ran great races, but not good enough. Now, this one, must be PERFECT!
My Endorsements within the Republican Party have been virtually insurmountable! It is such an honor to realize and say that almost everyone I Endorse WINS, and wins by a lot, especially in Texas! Thune wants an endorsement for Cornyn? Pass the SAVE Act first and get it to his desk. Then he can endorse Cornyn, Paxton stays in the race and Paxton wins.
The individual states can pass their own versions of the SAVE Act. Texas has had a photo ID requirement for several years.
Texas went to Real ID driver’s licenses a few years ago. I had to present my birth certificate in order to renew my license. Most people here use a driver;s license as the photo ID to vote.

Paxtons wife filing for divorce, and local gossip about what she is going to allege, will bring him down I suspect. The gossip and rumors are swirling around here, and the odd way in which she filed and served divorce papers to Paxton, hints something weird is going on. 😔

Yes, he risks Cornyn’s support vis-a-vis the SAVE act, but with Cornyn that wasn’t a sure thing anyway. Cornyn is too old to be seeking another 6-year term, IMO. Not that age has stopped many of the politicians.
But here’s the thing. Paxton has Cornyn in a runoff. When you can pull an incumbent into a runoff, you are very likely to beat said incumbent. In 2012, our TX Lt Guv was expected to win the primary. Ted Cruz got him into a runoff and won the seat. John Cornyn no longer is unbeatable. Look at how much money the Cornyn campaign has spent and he still could not beat Paxton outright in the primary.

The candidates were listed in alphabetical order on the ballot. When I voted, it was on a voting machine (ballot marking device). I had to go to Page 2 to get to Paxton’s name. If I had not been looking for Paxton’s name, I might not have noticed there was another page of candidates.

is it absolutely essential that a Cabinet position be filled, when the actual work can be and is done by lower level people?
Or is it possible to move a confirmed individual from one cabinet position to another position to get things done?
Theoretically, could you have the Interior Secretary become the AG after getting rid of Pam Bondi and continue on with getting important things done in the Justice Department?
Is it possible at the President’s discretion how and when those cabinet positions are filled? Take back the control over the President that the Senate is seeking to exert.
Presidents over the years have done without Vice Presidents – Truman went without one for a time. Of course, the Senate doesn’t have the power to confirm (or not) a person as VP, the voters do that when the President chooses his running mate, the VP candidate.

I did not realize that Cornyn won that election for TX AG by winning the nomination in a primary runoff. He knows up close and personal that the candidate who finishes 2nd in the primary can win in the primary runoff. That old RINO must be sweating bullets.

John Cornyn is not well liked or trusted. Despite all the mudslinging, Ken Paxton is liked and trusted by most Texans that are inclined to vote Republican. Also, Talarico has a much better chance of beating Cornyn in the general election.n
It would not surprise me if that is the plan for the Uniparty RINOS..throw it to the Demon wing Talarico.

Paxton has my vote again in the run off, really don’t appreciate POTUS getting involved, Cornyn ran some pretty unsavory adverts against Ken Paxton a few days before the Primary? Something smells really rotten about this and I hope Ken Paxton stays in the race.
Okay, that did it. I usually prefer to send political donations directly to the campaign’s office and in the form of a check. Tonight, I wanted to give a show of support by sending some money by credit card so that the timing would not be missed.
Heads up, Mr. Paxton. You’ll have my vote in the runoff.

After a day of contemplation & conversing with like-minded individuals here is the general takeaway….
Sounds like many are searching for any excuse to vote against Cornyn but not necessarily for Paxton out of fear that Paxton can’t pull off the win against the idiot Dem candidate. Personally, I believe the Paxton concerns are overblown & would/will beat both Candidates.
This said, if Thune is holding the SAVE Act hostage for a PDJT (Cornyn) endorsement, then all bets are off, we will begrudgingly hold our noses for Cornyn to get this passed provided Thune delivers prior to any endorsement. IF anything happens outside of this sequence, I think it will end up being a free for all.
I suspect that Cornyn’s people will try to get Democrats to vote for him in the primary runoff election like they did for Dade Phelan, our drunk previous Speaker of the Texas House.
However since the high propensity Democrat voters came out in force to vote in their own primary, those same individuals are barred from voting in the Republican primary runoff. Of the number of Democrats remaining who may be inspired to vote on runoff day in May, 6 of the 38 Democrat races for congressional seats are going to runoffs. Colin Allred and Al Green are both heading for runoffs in their districts. The Democrats have plenty to keep them busy with their own party. It’s not enough to stop they from crossing over altogether, but should help slow them down in those six congressional districts.
The WE’s I know will NOT hold their noses and vote FOR CORNYN!
Furthermore, I have read EVERY SINGLE COMMENT ON THIS post, and I would guess that about 80% of the Texans have indicated NO TO CORNYN!
The very last thing we need right now is more RINOs in our party. Instead we should be getting rid of them.
