President Trump makes a statement from his Truth Social account that all trade negotiations with Canada are immediately terminated following the Canadian government purchasing ads to lie to the American people about tariffs.
PRESIDENT TRUMP – “The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” President DJT
At first review this might seem like an angered response to a fabrication by the Canadian government of Prime Minister Mark Carney. However, there is much more to this background story as CTH readers are well aware.
First, rather than make any substantive policy changes, Canada is organizing a new trade relationship with China as an offset to the trade conflict with President Trump. {GO DEEP} This will make Canada a dumping ground for cheap Chinese goods, which then becomes a problem for the U.S.
Second, President Trump has stated his intention to dissolve the North American USMCA trade deal in favor of two separate bilateral trade agreements between the U.S and Mexico and the U.S. and Canada. Again, without the U.S. economy as a subsidy for their policy, a disconnect will make Canada very vulnerable to China and Europe. {GO DEEP}

This turn of events is interesting.
I can’t predict the future, but I suspect it’s not going to turn out too well for Canada.
Mark Carney seems a bit over his skis.
The same for Canada’s bedfellows across the pond:
THE ISLANDER
@IslanderWORLD
🇮🇹 When Giorgia Meloni told the EU to think twice before stealing Russia’s frozen assets, it wasn’t Kremlin propaganda. It was the final voice of sanity in a Brussels asylum. Because what the Eurocrats are doing isn’t just illegal, it’s suicidal piracy. The theft of sovereign reserves will detonate the post-war financial system, and the rest of the world is already taking notes.
“We believe, and we are not the only ones, that it is necessary to respect international rules and the principle of legality,” Meloni said, adding that the EU must protect “the financial and monetary stability of our economies and the euro area.”
There’s a reason even the IMF and ECB are sweating behind closed doors. The European Commission’s plan to use over €210 billion in frozen Russian central bank assets as collateral to fund Kiev in 2026–27 is not just lawless, it’s existentially reckless. The entire post-Bretton Woods financial architecture rests on the idea that sovereign reserves, held in trust, are sacrosanct. Break that trust once, and every single sovereign creditor from Africa to Asia starts asking: “Who’s next?”
The moment a Western financial institution like Belgium’s Euroclear, becomes an instrument of political confiscation, it ceases to be neutral infrastructure. It becomes a battlefield. Sovereign reserve managers from Saudi Arabia, Brazil, India, and China are watching this unfold not with shock, but with clarity. The West has weaponized the monetary system. That means the game is over. De-dollarization, de-euroization, and dedollar-denominated trade routes aren’t just theoretical anymore, they are now mandatory self-defense mechanisms.
This is no longer about Ukraine. That war is already lost. What’s unfolding now is a rearguard scorched-earth policy: the EU, unable to win on the battlefield, is trying to win time from its own collapse through financial vandalism. But here’s a basic truism: you cannot win a financial war if your system depends on global trust. And that trust has just been smashed with a brick.
If Russia is just a “gas station with nukes” as the Atlanticist blob claims, why are they trying to rob it like it’s the last vault on Earth? Why are European pension funds, dollar-exposed banks, and fragile bond markets being leveraged just to bleed a few more billion into a Ukrainian state that increasingly resembles a bankrupt fortress of grift? The answer is clear: The West is broke. And it’s panicking.
Meanwhile, Russia is already two moves ahead. Putin has made it explicit: the real punishment isn’t lawsuits or tit-for-tat seizures, it’s in building the architecture that makes Western theft irrelevant. Gold-backed trade settlements, BRICS+ banking infrastructure, national currency denominated bilateral swaps. Russia doesn’t need to win lawsuits in The Hague. It just needs to demonstrate that if you park your reserves in Brussels, you’re a sucker. Remember, the ponzi only works on trust and credibility.
That’s the grand irony. In trying to punish Russia, the EU is doing exactly what Russia wanted: revealing the Western financial system as predatory, arbitrary, and terminally politicized. That’s the final phase of transitioning to multipolarity. You don’t need tanks to win, you just need to make people realize the “rules-based order” is a con.
So yes, Meloni deserves credit, and not as a rebel, but as a technocrat who remembered what the rulebook says.
The United States can afford to be reckless — their currency is still the global reserve (for now). But Europe? Europe just handed over its economic soul to a collapsing war plan and expected no blowback. That’s not policy, it’s junkie logic.
And now that Russia isn’t breaking but victorious, now that it’s building trade corridors, de-dollarizing, and thriving, the mask drops. The EU doesn’t know what to do… so it steals.
History will remember that it wasn’t Moscow who tore down the global financial order. It was Brussels, so thank you to the EU!
I am marveling at the irony. The NAZI and The Stalinist were defeated only to unleash the culture of Vichy government across the continent of Europe.
Sepsis festers until time cures the natural process to completion. Some wonder why the horrors of war between governments are cyclical certainties?
Sloth and indolence has its price.
Giorgia Meloni needs to find a way to counteract the decision by the Italian Courts, which released the “faux Ukrainian Patriot” who supposedly masterminded the Nordstream Pipeline destruction.
The Italian Courts called it a LEGITIMATE ACT of WAR, as they released him.
Odd how the German Government dropped their extradition demand after this ruling.
The EU Court (whatever that is) and other EU National Courts will use this precedent to justify their actions, confiscating Russian assets as well as justifying other physical assaults on Russians and Russian Assets.
With the Russian crumbling offensive grinding forward, gaining ground as it wrecks the in-country military capabilities of the Ukraine and it’s NATO allies as part of the advance … The EU and Uncontrolled US INTEL will be stepping up indirect attacks on Russians and Russian assets.
Ah–I wondered what the Psy-Op was.
The arrest wasn’t just to provide cover for the guilty. After all, Obiden and Nuland pre-confessed.
It was just to provide more anti-Putin Agit-Prop by justifying the bombing.
and I really hate it when I agree with, and respect more, the BRICs countries, and Putin in particular (well, except for China),,,I wish we were as self protective as they are
The gloablists seem to be going for broke all over the place…including in the US.
Excellent commentary, Russ.
The non-pretending narrative is that the EU is financially bankrupt and require a war to implement a financial reset.
Russ, thanks for sharing. Everything the Islander says in that post makes perfect sense.
Seizing Russian assets can only be legal if the seizing country is in a hot declared war with Russia, and at this point none of them are, and none will dare to be unless the U.S. is in it along with them. And unless I am mistaken, President Trump has no intention of ever going along with such an idea.
But President Trump has more than three years left in his term and it seems evident the Eurocrats cannot wait that long to find some way out of their economic dilemma. They cannot wait three years for some compliant Leftist Democrat to get into the White House, and it is no sure thing that Trump will be replaced with one. So now they seem to be getting more desperate to force the EU/NATO into a full war with Russia. It is about the only option they have.
It is not Putin that Trump needs to force to the negotiating table, nor the EU puppet Zelensky, it is the Eurocrats who are behind him who need to be forced to the table. Since they see conflict with Russia as their only salvation, not a negotiated peace, this is going to get a great deal worse before it gets better.
“[T]he Eurocrats cannot wait that long to find some way out of their economic dilemma. ”
It’s pretty clear: The EU member states need to claw back their manufacturing which requires they stop the “green” energy madness.
The EU and its member states are fixated on reducing CO2 based on spurious models of “human-caused climate change”. Go back to using reasonably priced natural gas, petroleum, coal, and nuclear power.
“Green” energy isn’t clean, it isn’t renewable, it’s intermittent and unreliable, and it’s significantly less efficient than using other fuels.
I agree those are the things they need to do. But they are not going to do them. The political base of each of those EU leaders and their wealthy globalist WEF backers will not permit them to do any of those things, even if they wanted to.
And remember, with their parliamentary systems they don’t need a majority of voters to be behind them. Just a large enough minority to put together a coalition govt. And with two-round elections in many of those countries that always seem to ensure the most socialist and globalist of them win in the end, it is really hard to get them out of power.
It’s called a ss as ee nation
The Globalists have run all their other options out.
I even suspect Trump called off the Budapest meet with Putin because both leaders would present an adorable target for the bad asses of NATO.
I think Putin and Trump will meet, but they and only a very slect few in their orbits will know when and where, with little lead time.
Ending the Ukraine War would provide opportunity for a full court press against the Deep State Arctic Frost, Steele Dossier, J6 teams, without anymore distractions. And let’s not forget the vote fraud of 2020.
There are literally many many target rich areas when the Ukraine thing is resolved.
I bet Zelensky is pricing out a nice 500 million $ international yacht right now.
Good article.

Semper Fi,
He’s an idiot listening to other idiots. The world has always suffered from idiots and their illusions.
Carney doesn’t know it’s impossible to swim in quicksand.
He also appears clueless to the age old adage that warns against not biting the hand that feeds you.
Good luck with all the Chinese junk, Mark. I think you’re gonna need a lot of luck getting rid of it.
I suspect Ford was attempting to ‘start a conversation’ but instead shows desperation. He blew it big time and showed self as a hysterical pussy.IMO US needs to abandon Canada and leave them to their fetid rot. They need us we *do not* need them
Got to admit the ad was a pretty good punk move. I kinda liked it.
Tonight Milton Friedman’s clips from Free to Choose during Game 1?

I’m waiting for Katy Perry to chime in before forming an opinion.
She’ll form whatever she’s told.

Looks like the thought experiment may be real. Chinese bases in Canada or Mexico. Perhaps it will shed some light on NATO expansion but I doubt it. The double talk will be next level.
Panama & Mexico….with their troops to protect the infrasturcture they build.
Good thing we bailed out Argentina….?
As a Canadian, we’re so screwed. Fortunately, I’m an Albertan, so as long as we break away and become independent, we’ll be ok.
Sorry. Best of luck to you!
I’ll take good trade relations with an independent and resource-rich Alberta over caring what the useless bankers in Toronto do.

Kanada will become a vassal state of China as the CCP takes over.
Wake up Canada.
You’ll be bowing to Mecca in no time, or goose stepping in the town square saying comrade to all you meet…Fight! Fight! Fight!
New York (Mandami), Minneapolis and Dearborn are pretty muslim right now, so…we all have our fools.
You just got rid of Biden and almost had Kamala.
There are many Canadians that are conservative and we will have sensible leadership again. Everyone needs to chill a bit.
For some reason Carney’s time and position while in England always comes to mind when he makes decisions having a negative impact on relations with the United States.
Pretty much bet, in my opinion, most of our problems stem from three nations; UK, France, Germany. via EU of course.
Hope those Canadian boomers like plastic Chinese garbage.
I happened to see the ‘ad’ and thought it was a poor attempt that would not resonate. They misjudged the audience, ignored the power dynamic, put themselves in a position with no upside but plenty of down, and provided cover for Trump to escalate. That it would air while they are aligning with China is more fuel for the fire.
One should never out kick the coverage when negotiating with the Don.
My guess is Carney keeps digging a hole which swallows him up.
At a price tag of 75 million dollars. Someone made out like a bandit. I wonder who?
Canada’s Crown Government is festering sepsis and perhaps beyond rescue. Under Le Thespian and now, The Carney, the institutional effete worsen to preside and condescend as petit tyrants drunk with Crown Authority.
What conceit and depravity exist among failed trustees that their subjects who should be citizens are so arrogantly contemplated as if slaves of the Crown and the crude fiat of those who rule as Royal by Proxy.
The Canadian People deserve much better. The Carney’s clown show under the Northern Lights is neither modern or civilized, but instead a deeper descent into pathetically common, inept and embarrassingly effete bureaucracy playing endless games of “I am better than you because.”
Thank you for this comment. I could not have said it better.
Which is part of what makes President Trump a great man and a great President.
He is one of us.
He has never treated us as though we are lower than he is, or that he is better than us.
He has always treated the average man and woman — the average American man or woman whom he serves — with great respect and dignity.
The Canadian People east of British Columbia and west of Ontario to be more specific.
Armstrong Economics’ article posted yesterday, entitled “Post-Pandemic Inflation in Canada” is linked below. Canada’s economy is in shambles and going nowhere but downward. Below is an excerpt from the article. Click on the image “2025 Canadian Report: Canada: Canada: Can It Survive Intact?”, by Martin Armstrong, for those interested in a detailed report with a hefty price tag.
Canada is a sinking ship, as is EU, not to say USA doesn’t have some problems, but we will survive better than the rest of the pack and be the last man standing because all capital will flee the sinking EU countries etc and land in USA (Armstrong’s assessment, not mine)
FTA: Inflation in Canada rose to 2.4% this September, as reported by Statistics Canada. Excluding gas, the rate sits at 2.6%. Volatile prices among all essentials, from groceries to shelter, are ramping up the cost-of-living crisis for all Canadians.
Grocery prices have been on the rise since the pandemic and cannot be attributed to tariffs. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) shows grocery inflation is approximately 4% year-over-year, compared to an overall inflation rate of 2.4 percent. The 2025 Canada’s Food Price Report estimated that a family of four would spend C$16,833 on food throughout 2025, an increase of C$802, but prices have surpassed expectations.
Grocery prices surpassed overall CPI during COVID when inflation averaged 2.8%. That was merely the beginning of rising food prices, which rose to 3.5% YoY by 2021. Global energy price shocks due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, coupled with agricultural volatility, caused prices to reach all-time highs in 2022 when food inflation reached 9.8%. With no relief in sight, grocery prices peaked in early 2023 above 10%, marking a four-decade high. Prices stabilized to an extent this year but continue to outpace the overall rate of inflation.
Shelter is the other main component of the cost-of-living crisis in Canada. Over the last five years, the shelter component of CPI advanced from around 150 to about 188 index points, or a cumulative increase of roughly 25% since the pandemic. The Bank of Canada reduced rates to near zero early in the pandemic, which caused a surge in home purchases. National shelter CPI climbed 2% annually, but home prices soared 20% from mid-2020 to the end of 2021 as the cost of borrowing and inventory was low. Rent freezes among provinces caused the shelter component of inflation to remain muted through 2021.

Don’t be surprised if Canada joins the BRICS economic alliance … while be a de-facto EU member.
Possibly US is becoming much like Russia; on its own for the most part. Actually it seems we may have more enemies though the same in most respects. Definitely a friend is only a friend when tariffs aren’t involved.
Canda and the EU have become the perfect examples of what happens when the government reaches a certain level of corruption as sellouts to an enemy nation.
Below the threshold, there is argument and fight for the people and for the founding principles of the nation.
After that threshold is breached, you see the leadership taking actions that are blatantly nonsensical and directly opposed to the good of the nation they allegedly lead because the purchasing enemy country is fully in control.
Unfortunately, by the time this happens, there is a portion of the people that have bought into the deceitful justifications for the policy (that was really the destruction agenda of the purchasing enemy country) the leadership gave early in the process.
China has waged asymmetrical warfare against the West using unfair business practices and purchased politicians to convince their targets to deindustrialize, destabilize, and depopulate. And they are winning everywhere except Russia and America (but America was slipping away but for the grace of God and we got POTUS Trump).
In the 1960’s some young Americans moved to can ada

They were called “draft dodgers” ( not a fond name due to their shyness ( not courage ) to not help others that know that

( and tyrrannist$ will tempt people to be $hy, not help to keep freedom. )
Questions:
Do those draft dodgers still living in can ada…like what they are getting in can ada in 2021…

If
there was a draft today in the u.s.,
then
where would the shy

Even though there is a govt ‘shutdown’ and $37 trillion in debts,

Proclamation 4483, also known as the Granting Pardon for Violations of the Selective Service Act, was a presidential proclamation issued by Jimmy Carter on January 21, 1977. … so it would be interesting to find out the number who remained after being pardoned. Not so sure that number is many at all.
I’m old enough to remember hearing “The Americans” by Gordon Sinclair being broadcast on the radio.
“This will make Canada a dumping ground for cheap Chinese goods, which then becomes a problem for the U.S.”
How? Just tariff the hell out of it, or don’t let it cross the border.

https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/pubs/pdf/pa107.pdf
The CATO progressives preach that free trade means that only the US must drop its pants and receive the world’s output without restrictions, but that same requirement was not put on foreign nations to reciprocate equally.
Yesterday, I saw an X post from Beijing where Canada’s Anita Anand met with Xi Jinping in China. They are shaking hands in Xi’s office.
Beijing states that Canada is seeking to deal with China for its cybersecurity needs.
If Canada awards cybersecurity contracts to China, this becomes a major problem for the USA.
Major Problems include membership in: NATO, NORAD, G7, shared Law Enforcement, etc.
Yet more FA-ing by Canada means that they are now going to FO that China will pave their Belt and Road “From sea to sea” right through the middle of scenic downtown Ottawa. China will rape and pillage Canada for all of its natural resources, just like they are doing to so many Asian and African countries.
Congratulations Carney! You may be a hot shot Leftist economist, but you don’t know dick about negotiating with DJT and Xi will eat your lunch!!!
Take off ya hoser!
Ronald Regan didn’t put tariffs on Canada, he negotiated a trade deal with Canada and it took only 3 months to get to the signing of it.
Reagan would not have supported Trump Smoot-Hawley trade methods but supported very lenient use of tariffs.
There is a huge difference between US-Canada in 1981-1989 and US-Canada 2025.
This is not a fair comparison and utterly different environmental contexts, in terms of the relationship between the US and Canada.
Not in today’s world.
Eff Canada–correction–eff globalists and globalism.
Snow Mexicans or Snow Communists?
The full 782 words of Ronald Reagan’s old statement on tariffs. He doesn’t support Trump’s idea of tariffs
“My fellow Americans, Prime Minister Nakasoni of Japan will be visiting me here at the White House next week. It’s an important visit because while I expect to take up our relations with our good friend Japan, which overall remain excellent, recent disagreements between our two countries on the issue of trade, will also be high on our agenda. As perhaps you’ve heard, last week I placed new duties on some Japanese products in response to Japan’s inability to enforce their trade agreement with us on electronic devices called semiconductors. Now imposing such tariffs or trade barriers and restrictions of any kind are steps that I am loathed to take. And in a moment I’ll mention the sound economic reasons for this: that over the long run such trade barriers hurt every American worker and consumer. But the Japanese semiconductors were a special case. We had clear evidence that Japanese companies were engaging in unfair trade practices that violated an agreement between Japan and the United States. We expect our trading partners to live up to their agreements. As I’ve often said, our commitment to free trade is also a commitment to fair trade. But, you know, in imposing these tariffs, we were just trying to deal with a particular problem, not begin a trade war. So next week I’ll be giving Prime Minister Nakasoni this same message. We want to continue to work cooperatively on trade problems and want very much to lift these trade restrictions as soon as evidence permits. We want to do this because we feel both Japan and the United States have an obligation to promote the prosperity and economic development that only free trade can bring. Now, that message of free trade is one I conveyed to Canada’s leaders a few weeks ago, and it was warmly received there. Indeed, throughout the world, there’s a growing realization that the way to prosperity for all nations is rejecting protectionist legislation and promoting fair and free competition. Now, there are sound historical reasons for this. For those of us who lived through the Great Depression, the memory of the suffering it caused is deep and searing. And today, many economic analysts and historians argue that high tariff legislation passed back in that period called the Smoot-Hawley Tariff greatly deepened the depression and prevented economic recovery. You see, at first when someone says, “Let’s impose tariffs on foreign imports,” it looks like they’re doing the patriotic thing by protecting American products and jobs. And sometimes for a short while it works, but only for a short time. What eventually occurs is first homegrown industries start relying on government protection in the form of high tariffs. They stop competing and stop making the innovative management and technological changes they need to succeed in world markets. And then while all this is going on, something even worse occurs. High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign countries and the triggering of fierce trade wars. The result is more and more tariffs, higher and higher trade barriers, and less and less competition. So soon, because of the prices made artificially high by tariffs that subsidize inefficiency and poor management, people stop buying. Then the worst happens. Markets shrink and collapse. Businesses and industries shut down and millions of people lose their jobs. The memory of all this occurring back in the 30s made me determined when I came to Washington to spare the American people the protectionist legislation that destroys prosperity. Now, it hasn’t always been easy. There are those in the Congress, just as there were back in the 30s, who want to go for the quick political advantage, who risk America’s prosperity for the sake of a short-term appeal to some special interest group, who forget that more than 5 million American jobs are directly tied to the foreign export business, and additional millions are tied to imports. Well, I’ve never forgotten those jobs. And on trade issues, by and large, we’ve done well. In certain select cases, like the Japanese semiconductors, we’ve taken steps to stop unfair practices against American products, but we’ve still maintained our basic long-term commitment to free trade and economic growth. So, with my meeting with Prime Minister Nakasoni and the Venice Economic Summit coming up, it’s terribly important not to restrict a president’s options in such trade dealings with foreign governments. Unfortunately, some in the Congress are trying to do exactly that. I’ll keep you informed on this dangerous legislation because it’s just another form of protectionism and I may need your help to stop it. Remember, America’s jobs and growth are at stake. Until next week, thanks for listening and God bless you.”
It’s all in the family:
Margaret Trudeau is Justin Trudeau’s mother.
Margaret Trudeau remarried and had two children with Fried Kemper.
Fried Kemper is the owner of a realty and brokerage firm.
Fried Kemper’s sister is Verlie Kemper.
Verlie Kemper has a son named Mark Carney.
Mark Carney just took over as the Prime Minister from Justin Trudeau.
Mark Carney is the Godfather of Chrystia Freeland’s son.
Canada, we have been played again. Oh Canada!
Perhaps we could invite Alberta to become our 51st state?
According to Grok, everything is true that you said EXCEPT #4:
. Fried Kemper’s sister is Verlie Kemper.
False. This is the core of the debunked rumor. Fried Kemper’s siblings, as listed in his father John Joachim Kemper’s obituary and family records, were Christine Kemper and Michael Kemper—no Verlie. Verlie Margaret Kemper (née Kemper, 1932–2015) was from a separate, unrelated Kemper family line; her father was John Anthony Kemper (born 1877 in the U.S.), while Fried’s father was John Joachim Kemper (born 1921 in Germany). The shared surname is coincidental, with no documented sibling or familial link between the two Kempers.
The Trump Admin needs to create a counter ad with sound bites from Secretary Lutnick. Nobody explains what tariffs are going to actually do better than that man.
I am eager to see if there is a hostile reaction in Toronto when the American national anthem is played at the World Series opening game tonight in Toronto. Can the Toronto baseball fans be as ignorant and antagonistic as their Ontario leader?
I saw the ad in question, and it was a clear, personal, frontal assault on PDJT, veiled as an objection to tariffs in general.
Asking to be punched in the mouth often results in a painful injury.
I think that if Canada wants to align with China, and it sounds like their plan would let cheap Chinese goods bypass our tariffs on China, then Canada should have the same level of tariffs placed on them that we have on China. Everything in alignment. Remove whatever advantage Carney thinks such as plan would give to Canada.
Canada appears to be completely captured by the DeepState globalists. It’s nothing more than a vassal state.
In the grand scheme of things, this is likely nothing more than a bump in the road toward finalizing a new trade agreement with Canada.
Still it’s interesting to consider alternative what-if scenarios. For example, if Canada became a “dumping ground for cheap Chinese goods, which then becomes a problem for the U.S.”; the U.S. might consider building a wall across the Northern border and having no trade agreement with Canada which would result in immense pressure being put on the Canadian government to concede by Canadian citizens who ended up suffering as a result.
Such a position would be fortified by gaining control of Greenland for the following reasons: enhance national security and military positioning; increase access to critical natural resources; and (Canada might want to pay attention to this last one) gain greater geopolitical leverage to counter rival influences.
In the end, making Canada an isolated dumping ground for cheap Chinese goods they can’t use nor sell anywhere would bring the vote of the Canadian people into play producing a Canadian government that would have to concede to a fair trade agreement.
Just speculating.
FAFO Mr. Goldman/Sachs dirtbag.
