Traditionally, it’s called “the people’s house” because the House of Representatives is supposed to represent and reflect the people to whom the congressional members represent.
Republicans in the House threatened to withhold votes if Speaker Mike Johnson did not pass an enhanced House Member Security Funding Bill that includes a payment of $25,000/month per lawmaker to hire their own private security. This is in addition to the pre-existing security packages the House members receive.
The monthly funds would be designated for use hiring private security when the representatives are not in Washington DC. It is the republican wing pushing this demand.
WASHINGTON DC – Speaker Mike Johnson huddled Thursday afternoon with House Republicans who are threatening to oppose a GOP-led government funding bill Friday morning if leadership doesn’t add more member security dollars to the underlying measure.
During the closed-door meeting, Johnson told the group there could be additional money for that purpose included in the separate legislative branch spending bill, which funds the operations of Congress and is in the midst of bipartisan, bicameral negotiations, according to four Republicans who were in the room. If congress needs security to the tune of $25k per month, that will submit them to report their actions when they are away from session. As they feel free to attend social events, functions, and etc(private encounters); this will require a substantial obligation to make sure the ‘people’ have knowledge that will take away their freedoms and privacy. So alot of rules will be implemented that might just make them consider a different option.
So would any of you reconsider the consequences of being a representative/senator and still submit to full disclosure while holding an official position in government?
IF so, let us make sure the ‘people’ might just have a different compensation inline with this request:

An investigation is underway after a television station building in Sacramento was struck by gunfire, police confirm.
No injuries were reported, police say.
Sacramento police say officers responded to the 400 block of Broadway, the ABC10 building, just after 1:30 p.m. Friday to investigate reports of shots fired.
At the scene, police say officers found that the building had been struck by gunfire. Police say at least three rounds struck the building, apparently hitting a window that faces Broadway.
Police are classifying the incident as a drive-by shooting as it appears a vehicle drove by the building, fired, then drove away.
“We haven’t had a lot of attacks on our media partners, and we’d like to keep it that way,” said Anthony Gamble, a public information officer for the Sacramento Police Department. “This is unacceptable behavior. And so you know, to those that may have been responsible for this, and I hope you see this, we’re not going to stop looking for you. This is unacceptable behavior. It’s not going to be tolerated in Sacramento.”
No suspect information has been released. Police say there is no known motive at this time.
KXTV Channel 10 is an ABC affiliate station owned by Tegna.
“While details are still limited, importantly all of our employees are safe and unharmed,” said Molly McMahon, a spokesperson for Tegna. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have taken additional measures to ensure the continued safety of our employees.”

Congress already have Capitol Police protection both in DC and in their districts. They already get car allowances, housing allowances, security allowances to upgrade their multiple homes and offices, travel allowances to go back and forth to their home district etc. They get over $1.4M/yr office budgets to hire armies of staffers, and even more if they are in a senior committee position . They all amass many millions of dollars in their campaign accounts and they can use those funds however they wish after they retire.
They all live in upscale, low crime neighborhoods. They don’t spend time on public transportation, in low-end retail stores or in bad parts of town unless they are doing a photo-op.
It’s to protect THEM from US.
They want guards to keep ordinary people far away from them (unless they need props for a campaign photo shoot.)

Absolutely disagree with this. Make our cities and states safe for everyone, make people pay for threats of violence and criminal activity, prosecute and convict, rather than catch and release. This idea of security for public officials will create another level of elitism in those we elect. If this passes or is created, the states will soon follow for every single official they deem to need it. The costs will be astronomical and the need to enforce laws and fight crime will cease to exist for most.
Democrats don’t need security since WE don’t kill people. Rep’s have office expenses, travel, clothing on and on – Prioritize. Simple.
I suggest that all politicians buy the self defense tool that Sean Hannity advertises for: “Byrna” ( probably misspelled), to protect themselves.
