Traditionally, it’s called “the people’s house” because the House of Representatives is supposed to represent and reflect the people to whom the congressional members represent.
Republicans in the House threatened to withhold votes if Speaker Mike Johnson did not pass an enhanced House Member Security Funding Bill that includes a payment of $25,000/month per lawmaker to hire their own private security. This is in addition to the pre-existing security packages the House members receive.
The monthly funds would be designated for use hiring private security when the representatives are not in Washington DC. It is the republican wing pushing this demand.
WASHINGTON DC – Speaker Mike Johnson huddled Thursday afternoon with House Republicans who are threatening to oppose a GOP-led government funding bill Friday morning if leadership doesn’t add more member security dollars to the underlying measure.
During the closed-door meeting, Johnson told the group there could be additional money for that purpose included in the separate legislative branch spending bill, which funds the operations of Congress and is in the midst of bipartisan, bicameral negotiations, according to four Republicans who were in the room. Let me ask a question…..
What incentive exists to make sure American society is safe from domestic regional violence, if the representatives of the regions don’t ever have to concern themselves with such matters?
.

Posturing, as part of the theater used to expand the police state?
Does this sound familiar?
‘We are under heightened threat by “domestic violent extremists”, we must increase security – and put our noble Secret Police on the case to root them out.”
As done with the ridiculously theatrical response to the Reichstag 2.0 in January 2020, surrounding the Capitol with razor wire and filling the compound with uniformed soldiers.
The trend spanning multiple administrations is: Increase the surveillance and police state, build the Big Brother controls.
The Big Kickoff was 9/11.
ae911truth.org
Some observe the timing of the Charlie Kirk assassination – the day before the 9/11 anniversary – coinciding with increasing awareness of the overwhelming evidence that 9/11 was a controlled demolition:

Surely it is merely coincidence that this year, virtually all public discussion of 9/11 disappeared from 9/10 onward.
Yeah.
“…to hire their own private security.”
If it’s their “own private security,” let them pay for it.
Why haven’t they concentrated on repeat criminals time and again released by our progressive judicial system? Protect them from what, who? Forget the people they serve?
They’ll take the money. Who knows if they really hire their own or pocket the money each year, as opposed to assigned? Even if they produce receipts, it’s iffy unless whoever they hire gets audited.
What are these douchebags worried about?
Judging by Charlie’s experience, only honest, truth-telling people have anything to worry about.
If they persist in demanding protection, assign them agents that
Protectwatch them 24/7/365… and report back.I think Republicans really want to lose the House next year. So the left wins again because Republicans feel threatened? Where is our $300,000 a year for security? Good grief.
300k per Congressperson.
Pack heat as your security costs $400 bucks.
Hell no!
I’ve said it before, and will say it again…..Perhaps it’s time to throw them all out (House and Senate, Federal Judges and SCOTUS) and start over with Term Limits this time. The only way to do this is by another American Revolution. Unlikely, I know, but necessary. The American Experiment is worth saving.
The Declaration commands us to do this
Al, I have thought about your suggestion about nine nanoseconds and have concluded that you are right. What is the downside of that proposal? I would like for everyone to resign, or be fired, and rehire or appoint personnel for each position after extensive vetting. EVERY position.
This is a bad idea. This would make the peoples house a palace house. Where every state rep is protected and isolated from the people. These reps are saying they can’t trust the American people. That they must be protected from their own constituents.
What do they know that we don’t know?
Bad ideas have a way of becoming law.
Government is always paranoid.
A bargain at $25k.
Who can put a price tag on the preservation of human life in Our Democracy?
I hope your comment was written as sarcasm. If not, then you are a troll here with very little understanding of what you are reading.
You have several things backwards. Our Constitution and the Representative Republic are worth preserving, fighting and dying for. Not your tyrannical, leftist / marxist “Our Democracy” facade.
The price – thus far – for our Republic is over 1.1 million men and women who died defending her.
You forgot the /s.
25K per month, per rep? NOT a bargain! NOT for the amount of work they (don’t) DO! And we don’t have a Democracy…. rather a Constitutional Republic
I’ve been assaulted and threatened at my job multiple times.
Where’s my personal security?
let them pay for it,
Great question, Sundance. What incentive do our “representatives” have to insure the general publics’s safety from lenient judges, lenient prosecutions, cashless bail, etc. when they have their own pretorian guard to keep them safe from repeat criminals continually released by our progressive judicial system?
Strip them of their “protective details”, make them live with the threats faced by the common citizen, and maybe they would get serious about reining in the flabby excesses of our judicial system.
Perfect!
Wow, all of that security money will be directed to their personal bank accounts or to family members who just happen to have a personal security bidness.
Valid comment. How many will hire a “relative” to protect them??? Every job carries a certain level of “risk”. If the Congressional members want more security, strenthen the local law enforcement.
Rat Repubs……only worried about their own a$$!
No better than that Black Caucus!
RATS TO THE LEFT OF ME…..RATS TO THE RIGHT!
Donald Trump the only CAT in the house……..has a lot of work to do…..and HE CAN DO IT!
I do not consent. You are not above Joe citizen.
They were all a bunch of cowards on January 6th too.. The weasels can take care of themselves. They don’t need taxpayer funded bodyguards. Perhaps if they cut out the self serving and traitorous legislation and serve the people with integrity, they wouldn’t be in need of security,
Perhaps we can pony up a blankie and a binky for each one instead.
Surely they’ve been able to launder enough to cover that?
Besides, those that were killed were not the “ruling class”, but citizens. Where’s our $25K for protection?
They all pretend that their government salary is all they have. What a joke.
I would like to see an accounting for all the non-direct pay benefits members of both the House and Senate receive. I’m guessing that in reality these “public servants” probably are making in excess of $1 million/year. And that doesn’t count their insider trading benefit profits.
How much of these benefits are taxable? Must be amazing to vote for your own salary and benefits. And then determine if it’s taxable. This also doesn’t include the hidden slush fund for paying off your “indiscretions”.
I know that my former Rep Mark Green in TN district 7 was one of the high rollers with insider trading and he pushed bills where his newly set up company received benefits in taxpayer funded grants going to Guyana. ( see the story here – https://tennesseeconservativenews.com/mark-green-left-congress-to-work-with-lobbyist-oppose-chinese-businesses/ ).
So far one of the few Reps I’ve not seen any provable facts on grifting is Rep Tim Burchette. Marsha Blackburn has been paying her daughter/husband for years for “PR” work. And now she’s going to be TN governor. That’s in the bag for Marsha.
“What incentive exists to make sure American society is safe from domestic regional violence, if the representatives of the regions don’t ever have to concern themselves with such matters?”
Bingo.
Our FISCAL house is INSOLVENT, we’re just pretending at the moment. The LOSSES not yet realized by bad bets on Wall Street and by Big Banks is greater than the GDP of the entire planet. Get physical gold and silver, get right with GOD and take care of your family. All the rest is semantics for the ELITE. The Kabuki Theater is now playing 24/7 365………..
Maybe it’s a simple answer? When is the last time anyone in Congress was politically targeted and killed? Maybe it’s something I’ve missed or missing?
Another pay raise………
Take each one to the range, teach them gun safety, pass a test, and issue each of them a CC license.
There,, we just save $20K each. Look out for yourselves.
they can pay for it themselves with the kickback money.
What happened to “The Capitol Police” that Nancy dragged around with her everywhere she went?
If they are so afraid, they shouldn’t be re-elected.
Unfortunately, history has showed that any amount of $ for security has never been enough in face of a gunshot. Just look at the US Presidents that have been shot at.
So, these Republicans asking for these $25K security are dreamers.
I thought that leftists were the scum of the earth but these people take the cake……
We have become Rome.
Why don’t they focus on keeping us ALL safe? Rules for thee but not for me. Security for me and danger/death for thee? I’ve got a better idea…the clowns in our representative halls of congress continue to squander the wealth and generosity of the hard working, tax paying citizens of this country. Our government spending is insane.
Take the security money out of their budgets for staffing and travel. For every dollar they want to spend on security, they have to reduce their staffing and travel budgets by $5. Sit back and see what happens.
