Traditionally, it’s called “the people’s house” because the House of Representatives is supposed to represent and reflect the people to whom the congressional members represent.
Republicans in the House threatened to withhold votes if Speaker Mike Johnson did not pass an enhanced House Member Security Funding Bill that includes a payment of $25,000/month per lawmaker to hire their own private security. This is in addition to the pre-existing security packages the House members receive.
The monthly funds would be designated for use hiring private security when the representatives are not in Washington DC. It is the republican wing pushing this demand.
WASHINGTON DC – Speaker Mike Johnson huddled Thursday afternoon with House Republicans who are threatening to oppose a GOP-led government funding bill Friday morning if leadership doesn’t add more member security dollars to the underlying measure.
During the closed-door meeting, Johnson told the group there could be additional money for that purpose included in the separate legislative branch spending bill, which funds the operations of Congress and is in the midst of bipartisan, bicameral negotiations, according to four Republicans who were in the room. Let me ask a question…..
What incentive exists to make sure American society is safe from domestic regional violence, if the representatives of the regions don’t ever have to concern themselves with such matters?
.

These people with over inflated egos chose to run for office and deal with everything that the office entails. Yes they’re taking advantage of insider trading, and our gaming on the benefits of the office. They need to deal with any threats on their own and not off of the taxpayers back.
Omar said her brother just opened a private security agency 🙂
To safeguard their marriage?
To safeguard their retarded children.
She’s has two more husbands since the brother marriage.
gross
If Congress was good at their job they wouldn’t need security.
Why should that be necessary when “representatives” swear: “I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”? Why beg taxpayers for security money when you’ve already sworn before God you have NO MENTAL RESERVATIONS about supporting and defending the Constitution? Clearly, by this action you’re exhibiting your MENTAL RESERVATIONS.
Not really. Crime is supposed to be a state and local issue, not Federal. The Constitution only gives the Feds the privilege to deal with 3 crimes: Piracy, treason, counterfeiting. Their job was to secure the border, something no politician has done anything about in over 60 years.
Yet she is so “religious” that she covers her hair every day.
Probably bald.
Nah, snakes like Medusa.
Can you just imagine what might be crawling around under that! Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl.
Flies, bedbugs, lice, screwworms, and maggots…
because she doesn’t want to wash it?
Her daddy said she was the best kisser EVER.
Her brother/husband.
The hubris is off the charts. 300k for security, gosh we should have an armored SUV…, we should not fly commercial, we should have a fence around our homes… RINO/SWAMP/ makes me want to upchuck. I really was having an epic Eastern shore day till I read this nonsense. I detest, really detest these people. Bah!
Here we go, we are more important than the rest of us, especially in blue cities run by ‘rats. The ‘rats aren’t worried about security because all the violence is on the left, so they don’t need it.
A: The same incentive that bi-annual Representatives derive from Rigged Elections.
Exactly the same.
No. Just no. What a bunch of entitled spaghetti spined elitists. Could they try any harder to be unpopular?
And remember they want you disarmed!
Exactly!
Would love to have the list of names who are pushing for this, and what security company would benefit the most of such action
exactly.
and who’s in charge of oversight?
who would be auditing where the 25k/mo goes?
wrong on so many levels….
Themselves, their family, and friends.
25K/month buys a lot of Uber Eats so they don’t have to go out in public.
yes, but does instacart stop at the package/liquor store? Nancy wants to know.
Congress has a liquor store inside the Capital. Also a gym with sauna and steam room, barber/beauty shop, cafeteria, They really never have to leave.
And a jail. Which is where most of them should be.
Post office, bank…
Yes! And if my representative is on the list will do all I can to help vote him out.
It’s a back door pay raise of 300k.
The fine print will say they can spend it however they want.
and hey…no need for that “mandated” death shot. horrible, wreched, evil people.
Sundance hit the nail on the head. Fix the obvious problems in the Country. If you cannot make the people safe, CONGRESS SHOULD NOT BE SAFE EITHER. Enough of two systems and rules applied to the proles and not the elites.
One more step toward the dystopian society they seek.
So these government workers allowed the national rhetoric to reach the level it has over the last number of years, and now they want protection from it.
Screw them with a rusty nail.
The Democrats and RINOs call all go to H, E, double hockey sticks.
Thoughtful succinct analysis Professor. Kind of like their sexual assault defense slush fund, no?
“A total of 215 Republicans voted in favor of this resolution, with four not voting. Republican Reps. Mike Collins of Georgia, Eli Crane of Arizona, Rick Crawford of Arkansas, and Derek Schmidt of Kansas did not vote.”
What on earth is the matter with Eli Crane? I had thought he’d turn out to be one of the good ones….
That’s the vote on honoring Charlie Kirk, btw.
Another Perfect Metaphor
There aren’t any “good ones.”
Scott Perry, my Congressman when I lived in PA, is a good one. I’ll bet there’s 50 good ones, by my lights anyway.
I hope there’s a good reason. Mike Collins just sent his Senate campaign up in flames if he was chickening out on supporting honoring Charlie Kirk.
What is your opinion on GA’s current Sec State and AG looking for promotions?
And people think im crazy to want a purge of DC
Same here. I want the truth about these scum and a purge. And let the chips fall where they may. We will figure out how to deal with it.
WE BADLY NEED THE BRUNSON CASE!
The same politicians that have put our lives and our families lives in danger by not prosecuting crime, supporting Antifa, BLM to riot and kill, mass criminal invasion of illegals are now worried about their safety?
They should be.
They are realizing they have pushed us to the edge of the cliff and there’s no more give we have.
Assassinating Charlie Kirk was the final straw and they know it.
this is what I have been sending to Repubs asking for money: What YOU don’t have a right to do is infringe on the First Amendment by calling some speech “hate speech “. When you do you join the radical left. You will lose a major portion of your supporters as you attempt to justify , to excuse, violating the first amendment. Remember, you have been warned. Your supporters REFUSE to be treated like the citizens of UK. They are becoming more alert by the MINUTE! Like it or not Freedom of Speech INCLUDES “hate speech.” And trying to pawn it off on platforms THROUGH Section 230 so that they violate the first amendment will not cut it. Speak out against—in any way violating the First Amendment. Only then will I support you.
Sent from my iPhone
Curious if anyone thought that the security was intended only to protect them from the obvious leftists.
Keep asking the right questions.
Sums it up well…
Me? I will hide in Mammie’s skirts….!
Exactly what I was thinking!
I was waiting for it, thank you!
On 🎯
I get a kick out of how many of the main characters win that film were played by English thespians LOL. FWIW, Leigh was absolutely stunning in that particular gown.
Three out of the four main characters…
Vivien, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland 👍🏻
So are we supposed to just GIVE them the money, and they hire their own security? Then this is just another bribe
They want yet more money to protect themselves from the consequences of the diversity evil that THEY have already been exorbitantly paid by internationalist enemies to inflict upon our society. America is a stinking corpse rotting in a ditch. Reasonable people can disagree over which year marked the passing of America into post-America (it was a gradual process), but right now we incontrovertibly live in post-America, an internationalist abomination wearing America’s flayed skin like a camouflage suit, so rotten and full of holes that anyone with a brain cell can see that what lies within is not what once was.
I say this as a descendant of the first Americans before Americans had their own country, who were pioneers of English and German ethnicity whose grandsons fought in our Revolution. I say this as someone who used to believe, who was an officer candidate 3 months after high school. Internationalist post-America cannot burn soon enough, and those who murdered America need to crackle in the flames.
“America is a stinking corpse rotting in a ditch.”
But it’s redemption is not an impossibility, not by a long shot.
Not if you’re a white heterosexual Christian male native born US citizen. Look around. What do you see?
Who am I to begrudge them that?
They are a whole lot more likely to attract an assassin than I am and I don’t want any more assassinations.
you should instead ask why they are “a whole lot more likely to attract an assassin” in the first place.
you just applied the cloward-priven thingy.
in your way of thinking, it’s ok to give 25k/mo, each, tax payer money, on top of their existing security package, to protect them from what they created in the first place.
Read Sundance’s last sentence. You should begrudge this crap. They lose incentive to fix societies issues.
I did read it, again, and my bottom line conclusion is still the same. Or is that not permitted? Does everyone here have to have the exact same set of opinions?
You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion-no matter how misguided that opinion is.
Shout it from the rooftops-and then permit the rest of us to reply with our opinions.
And expect that most if not all of that $25k/mo ($300,000/year!) will get rerouted in some way back to the member’s pockets. This will mostly turn into one more scam that helps them get rich while in office.
If they don’t have to exist amongst all of the crime that they allowed to happen (eg, illegals, mentally ill running free, gangs-no cash bail, drugs) then there will never be an incentive for them to fix the problem.
If they had to take public transportation like the working classes then we would have the safest public transportation in the world.
“allowed to happen”? Or fostered?
In the larger picture, what career politician wants to actually solve problems? To do so means that they would soon be out of their cushy job.
Nah, they just need to toughen up and walk tall. There’s not that many of them that lefties are specifically going to target anyway; have the gov’t pay for some self-defense classes for those few.
I bet that they will make sure to burn through that $25,000 each and every month if they have to “hire” their brother-in-law to provide the service. All the BIL has to do is open a security business and have one client.
That is $300,000 a year and all they have to do is claim step outside of DC.
one employee and one client.
And the BIL will donate the maximum amount to the re-election campaign.
Lawmakers are mostly filthy, lying, disgusting pricks that have put themselves on pedestals for their glorification. Most of them don’t even speak for themselves – they read from a script just like a Hollywood actor. Why do we pay for that??
They need to be subject to the same laws and consequences we face! Strip them of ALL their security and let them ride the trains.
Maybe we all just need to stop paying taxes because the politicians no longer not serve Americans – just themselves. NO!!!
Their safety…. give me a break! Let’s talk again how many have become *millionaires* since being in office!
I’d like to talk to them about the shaft us seniors are getting w Medicare… Millions are being dropped from the Advantage Plan a/o Jan 1st, and have to figure out for themselves what to do next…
Not to mention the cost!
Sorry had to get this in!!!!
This ‘administration’ was reported on Faux news yesterday, to be looking at ways to make SS solvent.
They did not kill us with covid, they will find another way.
So who is the gatekeeper at 1600? And the loyalty lies where? Past employer, am thinking.
Next year (2026 ) in six states Medicare is going to run an AI pilot program to eliminate “waste” .
You think Medicare is bad now just wait until AI is done with it.
What really eats at me is that we have to pay into Medicare all of our working years and then after you sign up for Medicare when you turn 65 ( most dont have a choice) you are forced to pay a monthly premium and the coverage stinks!
Just no. I can understand providing protection where there are real threats, but a grant for them to hire private security? No way.
They have resason to fear assaults from their own constituents in their own districts?
Are they planning to vote for something which is unpopular?
If they vote for this, they might need security. This is beyond the pale!
Clearly there aren’t real threats. If there were then they and the federal bureau of ‘matters’ would publish them daily and perp-walk the offenders.
Great, only adding another $130,500,000 to the deficit per year for House members.
Shameless, burdening the taxpayer with more spending.
And with this going on:

Don’t the housecritters care about the senatecritters?
That is where the wink and nod come in during reconciliation between the inevitably different versions of the bill in the House and Senate.
UniParty RepubliCons-congratulations on living down to our low expectations.
If the ones asking for extra security are MAGA fire brands, maybe there is something to their request.
Hard no, sorry.
“What incentive exists to make sure American society is safe from domestic regional violence, if the representatives of the regions don’t ever have to concern themselves with such matters?”
Exactly…it’s within their power to make changes that would make all of us safer…you might even say it’s their job.
Let’s see. You (Congress critters) want more of my money to protect you so you can go to DC and vote to spend even more of my money on stupid stuff instead of protecting me and my family. Got it. And the answer is still ‘NO!’.
No.
That’s $160,500,000 per year, to “protect” 535 congresscritters.
Safety for me, but not for thee.
I have a message for them, but I cannot enter it into this comment.
A kinder version is: Live like the rest of us. You think you are important, but you are not.
Boy, the nerve. Support PTrump in cleaning up our cities. Sickening.
just an estimate 25K times 150m adults in US. Cost for security above current levels 4 Trillion dollars.
Multiply by 12 — 25K a month is what they are asking for!
Wow. I’m calling bull pucky on that. Wow, what I could do with $25000 a month for security!!
WE ARE THE ONES who are living with daily violence on the streets, on the freeways, in the public square!
WE ARE THE ONES who must keep our children very close and keep an eye on everyone in every place!
Why don’t the lobbyists foot the bills? They sure are flinging money around.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Some Americans don’t make $25,000 a year!!
House Republicans who are threatening to oppose a GOP-led government funding bill Friday morning if leadership doesn’t add more member security dollars to the underlying measure.
And adding more member security dollars will give Rep. Massie & Co. a reason to pull support from the funding bill because it doesn’t cut enough spending.
Clown show.
Ya can’t take the heat, git outa da kitchen. Bea–itches.
Yeah because so many of them have been murdered while in office. Truth be known, they’re so ineffective and useless that killing them would be a waste.
Let those yellow bellied “representatives” carry their protection and let them figure out how not to get shot as they go about their day. This is so disgusting.
Things Cannot be any more clear than they are now. All this promotion of unity is a pipe dream and the politicians can’t pretend anymore but they’re not afraid of the left, they are afraid of everyone thanks to their policies and political BS, their disdain for all of us, their mismanagement of fiscal responsibility.
It’s just time and most don’t even see it.
If we all want to coexist, then we need to leave each other alone. We are back to “See something, say something”. Palantir exists for a reason folks.
Is this before or after TPTB find a way to restrict (infringe) on second amendment rights?
Sorry for the rants. This just hit me all wrong. Every day Americans, and especially with all the violence going on and then the Charlie Kirk assasination, have been concerned about personal safety. The government rats can just fund their security using our tax dollars. This is just so unbelievable to me.
I’ll stop now.
So, another $130 MILLION IN SPENDING? I’m sorry, but screw these grifters. Perhaps not allowing this will make them stay put and actually do their F’n jobs for a change.
“Never let a crisis go to waste.”
Wait until the Senate Cloakroom runs out of single malt scotch, they will ask for a monthly $10k/member monthly scotch stipend.
Umm, paying for Democrats and RINO’s to have security? No.
Charlie had security and it didn’t help him. Just saying.
I am concerned about ALL of our Leaders being in one place on Sunday. Will there be enough GOOD security there?
if my reps get private security, I want private security as well.
after all, i have to navigate the cesspool they created and refuse to clean up a whole lot more than they do,
and i guarantee i’m more in step with CK’s principles than they are.
their personal shoppers will understand.
They already have the 2nd Amendment like the rest of us.
I was in D.C. when Charlie got shot last week. We were coming off the House Floor Gallery when he was shot, and it was displayed on TV as we were gathering our belongings back from security. Everyone was shocked. We had several of our state delegation speak to us that afternoon and the next day and they’re all scared of being shot. They told us that part of their job is speaking inside and outside for events. And one of them said that could’ve been or could be one of us. So that’s why they’re asking for more security.
Just for the record, the “People’s House” is the White House. The House of Representatives is the People’s Outhouse.
I doubt there is any evidence that Congress creatures are inflicted with crime at any higher rate than the average citizen. Cost to provide the enhanced protection of 25k for everyone else is 4 Trillion, and the average citizen doesn’t receive the current level of protection as Congress creatures.
