Republicans in the House threatened to withhold votes if Speaker Mike Johnson did not pass an enhanced House Member Security Funding Bill that includes a payment of $25,000/month per lawmaker to hire their own private security. This is in addition to the pre-existing security packages the House members receive.
The monthly funds would be designated for use hiring private security when the representatives are not in Washington DC. It is the republican wing pushing this demand.

Wouldn’t an extra $25k a month basically double their salaries? How about the money they’re asking for go to the local police or sheriff’s offices in each of their home communities for protection of them, their families, neighbors and constituents who could be caught in any crossfire?
$25K a month is $300K per year and since their salaries are I believe $150K per year then the total would be $450K per year so that’s actually triple their salary. Time to arm yourselves cause we ain’t paying you for your security which you already have much more then is poor citizens do.

The National Rifle Association and other Gun Groups need to step up and simply say, ‘No special protection for our legislators unless the 2nd Amendment is appropriately applied across the United States to allow honest citizens to carry guns to protect themselves, families and neighbors from all the criminals.
B. The money for the protection of legislators must come out of all the money currently being spent to protect and help the other countries in the world. Our US government has an obligation to help our citizens first.
C. The protection for our legislators would be provided by uniformed military personal. The USA already had enough ‘secret police’ in our country; the ‘Secret Service’, FBI, ATF, police department detectives, welfare departments investigators, and other ‘civilian clothing’ wearing police. … At NO increase in taxes or public expense, a legislator could be given good physical protection.
D. A squad of US Marines traveling with each legislator having a squad leader willing to say ‘Fix Bayonets’ would further public safety for everyone. +Having the ‘protecting squads’ coming from our civilian volunteer military would help prevent the corruption that would surely come with a ‘professional’ class of ‘protectors’ chosen by the legislator.

All CPSO (congressional personal security ‘officers’) will be illegal aliens.
All CPSO will be paid $2,500 per month with no taxes, but no benefits, so there will be 10 per ‘congressional personage’.
All CPSO will not be subject to any qualifications, vetting, or standards.
All CPSO will be granted universal conceal or/and open carry permits no matter where they are or what they are doing.
All CPSO will have full license and immunity to shoot and kill any person(including other congressional personages) that disagree with their congressional personage.
All CPSO will have full authority to shoot and kill any American citizen for any reason at any time, but must have permission from congressional personage to do same to fellow illegal alien.

Why? You already make almost $200,000 a year (more for leadership and leadership is provided Secret Service protection), get loads of free perks and a per diem. Why should we spring for $300,000 EACH for security? Put a cot in your office, zoom with your family and we can cover the Congress with a few extra outside guards (likely less than $300,000 for the entire year).
Surrender your perks, surrender your per diem. We can provide a few extra guards to control access inside the buildings but once you CHOOSE to leave the premises, you’re on your own LIKE YOUR TAXPAYERS!!
Or you can always cut more than the $160,500,000 from the budget by eliminating a lot of pork and maybe even cutting each member’s staff by say 5 members. It should zero out at a bare minimum!!
