Secretary of State/National Security Advisor Marco Rubio hit the Sunday news circuit to expand on President Trump’s peace initiative and meeting with Russian President Putin.
Appearing on NBC, Rubio outlines the results of the Alaska summit between President Trump and President Putin, as well as the next steps ahead of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy coming to the White House on Monday. WATCH:

Following along with much of the same conversation, Secretary Rubio also appeared on ABC this week to debate the ever-insufferable Martha Raddatz. Below:

I don’t have a college degree, per se.. but doesn’t a Peace Deal by nature of its definition, involve ceasing the firing?
Yes, but not the inverse.
A “cease fire” would prove to be nothing more than a respite for the West to resupply and find more Ukranians. Russia has legitimate national security concerns which must be addressed. This conflict began because of them, and will not end without them.
Peace Deal is fighting stops after deal negotiated and signed.
Ceasefire stop fighting while negotiations take place.
Whoooosh
The term Ceasefire implies a temporary stop in hostilities to give time to both parties to strike a more permanent “peace deal” but according to Witkoff, so many of the de items were agreed upon by Putin on Friday that they are choosing to skip the ceasefire part and go straight to a more permanent set of conditions. Recall also that while Putin was in the air on his way to Alaska, Ukrainians were bombing Russia. And that was intentional to sabotage the process. Russia is therefore doing a tit for tat today.
Whoosh
Perhaps they are imagining a “fiery but mostly peaceful” deal?
Two unelected presidents are coming tomorrow who absolutely care nothing of the people of their countries. Europe is in very dire straits financially along with Ukraine. If there is no war, how is Europe going to default?
I get your meaning but I think you, like me, the mind moves faster than the digits can type
If there is no war, how is Europe going to ‘prevent’ default?

U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff on Aug. 17 said that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed at Friday’s Alaska peace summit to allow U.S. and European allies to grant Ukraine security protections similar to NATO’s collective defense mandate as part of an impending deal to end the war.
“We were able to win the following concession: That the United States could offer Article 5-like protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO,” Witkoff said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The special envoy added that it “was the first time we had ever heard the Russians agree to that.”
Speaking at a news conference in Brussels on Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, “We welcome President Trump’s willingness to contribute to Article 5-like security guarantees for Ukraine. and the ‘Coalition of the willing’—including the European Union—is ready to do its share.”
NATO’s Article 5 provides that if an ally is the “victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the Ally attacked.”
https://www.theepochtimes.com/world/trump-envoy-says-putin-agreed-to-us-europe-offering-nato-style-security-assurances-for-ukraine-5902325
The NATO Article 5 says each country can decide to attack if they deem it in their national interest. There is NO mandate!
“This commitment means that each member state agrees to assist the attacked party by taking such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.”
Thank you for explaining this.
You are correct.
Hopefully this ‘Article 5-like protection’ also protects the Ukrainian citizens of Russian heritage that have been attacked by Ukrainian military members since at least 2014.
This appears to give Ukraine and Europe the security guarantees they are hoping for and as such would be a significant factor towards an agreement suitable to all.
Article 5 says, “The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.”
The part about “such action as it deems necessary” is the kicker. The preceding language obligates each party to assist those who have been attacked, but that assistance might not include direct military action by all parties. It might be a whole host of things short of that. Maybe just sharing from their weapons stockpiles, or providing refuge for displaced persons, or monetary assistance, etc.
So “Article 5-like protection” might mean almost nothing at all. It sounds like a potential out as much as an obligation. And since NATO won’t formally be involved, then who are the “parties” that will potentially be expected to provide protection? The whole EU? I’d think not. Just the U.S.? I hope not. Whoever they are, they will need to be a signatory to the agreement, and that may be a can of worms that will only serve to drag out negotiations.
Actually, it almost sounds like if this agreement was signed and then the war was restarted for some reason, the parties who signed on to the “Article 5-like protection” would be obligated to provide something like the support Ukraine has already been receiving, except the agreement would keep them from stopping all support like they could do now. It might just perpetuate what is already happening.
His flat greeting on MTP made me LOL!
I did too. 😂
Yes, Rubio had me at “thank you” as well.
I noticed Rubio was decidedly cold to all of the Sunday show talking-heads when greeted. I imagined he was saying “and F U too.”
Gaslighting on steroids.
Trump said it. No solution until the CIA is under control.
Rubio said it. This is a CIA/State Dept war. America IS at war with Russia.

If it’s Sunday…It’s Meet The Dress 🙂
Meet The Depressed.
Welker: Putin, Putin, Putin, Putin, Putin. . .
Rubio: The Russians, the Russians, the Russians, the Russians.
Oh, and also
This is not our war. America will go on as usual tomorrow if a deal is not reached.
Playing a “gotcha moment” on SOS Rubio was pretty dirty stuff but he handled it well.
If we had an honest non partisan press unbeholden to the fascists bankers and multinationals…..
There would be no Ukraine war.
Sullivan: We concluded, based on those contacts, that Russia was not in a position to come to the table in a serious way. And so we didn’t want to set up a summit where we were literally rolling out the red carpet for Putin in America to have him come and walk away and continue the war without any clear and convincing outcome of the summit. We didn’t think that was possible. And having just watched Alaska, I think our judgment on that was correct
Biden Administration’s Jake Sullivan, who was in the Situation Room on December 9th, 2016, “We didn’t think (the ending of the war) was possible ” …
He is a disgusting man. Whenever I have seen him I had the visceral reaction that he was always in over his head.
Jake Sullivan is what you get when Satan decides to create someone
who has the prior resume and looks of an Eagle Scout.
MNN BREAKING…
* ON VACATION IN LANGLEY, VA, JUDGE BOASBERG RULED THAT RUSSIA MUST GIVE BACK CRIMESA, LUHANSK, DONETSK, PARTS OF KHERSON AND ZAPORIZHZHIA, AND UKRAINE MUST GIVE HUNTER BIDEN HIS BURISMA JOB BACK
“UKRAINIANS ARE LAZY,” HE EXPLAINED. “THEY DON’T WANT THE HIGH-PAYING NO-SHOW JOBS THAT FOREIGNERS DO.”
If it’s not “our” war then why are we funding the bulk of it? Insanity.
It would be wonderful if we could have Sec. Rubio, Steve Witcoff, et. al. just explain what’s going on without the odious commentators.
So much talk about “ceasefires” and “security guarantees.”
Burning down CIA Headquarters in Langley would accomplish all of the above.
Just shut off the $, like USAID…. problem disappears and we turn the HQ into the External Revenue Service 2.0
Mr. Secretary, I ignored everything you just said because my job is to promote war and create viewers that allows my salary to grow with each new contract. Our only reason for existence is to embellish any negative news that drives viewers to our establishments. All of us who create the Mainstream Narrative are 100% on board with this. Otherwise, we stop existing!
I’m truthfully paraphrasing here of course.
President Putin has never changed his stance on NATO expansion. President Putin’s problem was that he believed in that ill fated feeling called HOPE and I think after 25 years in power he’s fully aware that that path can never be accepted again. He knows who he deals with, we all do anymore.
When everyone finally accepts that politicians are always the reasons, through-out history, that cause their own country’s collapse, then maybe we can stop falling for the shiny objects to displace our mindsets.
Von der lying wrote on x that she is attending at the request of the coke head!
The unelected bureaucrat seems to pop up everywhere, amongst actual duly elected leaders.
So if UKR gets NATO-backed security guarantees, what similar guarantee does RUS get if UKR breaches this Peace Agreement in the same manner that NATO breached the Minsk Agrmt, which is a basis for why RUS invaded UKR.
All questions relate to Russia this/Russia that.
What about UKR-NATO this/that? They cant be trusted!!!!!
It would be cool if PVP showed up tomorrow…WOW
Martha, Martha, Martha….
If it wasn’t for Democrats there would be little need/use for the word hypocrisy!!!
It’s their natural state, Bubby.
It was already going to be a miracle to reach a peace deal since the Ukrainian president is so juvenile and irrational, but it will really be a huge accomplishment if a peace deal with all the mockingbird media picking apart perceived pieces of it before it’s even finished.
As part of my legal practice I also was trained in Mediation and provided those services. From the perspective of a retired mediator I don’t feel it was wise to give the press the time of day until after the last signature is affixed to any given deal. The left is desperate to keep President Trump from any success; the goal of this henpecking nonsense is intentionally to throw a wrench in the negotiations.
Rubio began to sound impatient – with good reason.
I don’t feel it was wise to give the press the time of day
They did follow that advice in AK. I think Marco’s job was to reduce the “it was a failure!!” talk, by giving them something else to belly-ache about.
Marco – Putin isn’t the only liar…. Zelinsky, US, EU, NATO…. remember the 2014 Minsk agreements that Germany and others signed and Germany recently admitted that it was only done to buy time for Ukraine to build up more military while kiev continued to bomb eastern Ukraine since 2014 and before! My God the propaganda is so evil !!!!
These people are so stupid that they don’t even understand that PEACE DEAL is better than a temporary cease-fire. This one in particular is so hard to watch. She is so blank blanking stupid! With her dumb doe eye look trying to get a gotcha moment… she actually makes that idiot on CNN looks smart.
Kristen Welker is the host of Meet the Press, not Martha Raddatz.
Marco is fantastic; his schooling of that moron is exceptional.
Good grief; the obsession with Russia is insane.
Is the meeting with Z and the others going to be televised live?
Best exchange? When Raddatz wanted to know the details of what progress had been made.
Raddatz: “But Secretary Rubio, we don’t know what any of that progress is.”
Rubio: “And you’re not going to.”
I think Trump officials have realized that the Sunday interviewers are best handled the way a parent would handle a whiny teenager.
I am not ashamed to say that my admiration for Marco Rubio , begins with and ends with His respect while speaking for this President and every inch of this Presidents policy, I may be a sucker but he seems sincere.
I believe that Marco Rubio maybe 2028.
2028 for me is the candidate for my grandchildren. Their future. The one who fools me to the grave I guess.
But my money is on Him, his six months are impressive.
but I can’t lie
I listened to Stevie Ray, at the same time.
The real question is will the Toad wear a suit? If he shows up in his sweats he should be told to leave and come back when he can dress appropriately to play on the Big Boy stage.
