As if on cue, a short article from the Chamber of Shipping notes that cargo from China is being rerouted to avoid tariffs.
The destination of the cargo is, wait for it,… CANADA!
USCoS – As U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods soar to as high as 145%, a growing number of companies are rerouting shipments to Canada and storing them in bonded warehouses in hopes of avoiding the duties and capitalising on a future rollback. This strategy has caused a sharp spike in Chinese shipments to Canada, with logistics firms and customs brokers reporting surging inquiries and storage demand from consumer goods, chemical, and auto parts sectors. However, experts caution that prolonged storage costs—estimated at $1,750 per container per week—and limited warehouse capacity could force sellers to offload discounted goods into the Canadian market, potentially disrupting domestic manufacturing. Others warn the strategy is risky and unsustainable, especially if the trade conflict drags into next year’s U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement negotiations. (link)
This will not end well….
… For Canada.

Methinks “Time” magazine’s finger-of-the-year will deep in photo subject’s own an_s soon enough.
My first thought was similar – he’ll be wearing that ring on his sphincter at some point sooner or later.
Well, I guess the tariff deal with India and Tata are a done deal…😉
Jaguar Land Rover restarts car exports to the U.S., London’s Times reports –
Jaguar Land Rover has restarted shipments of vehicles to the U.S. after pausing them in the face of tariffs, London’s Times newspaper reported on Saturday.
The first shipments of JLR vehicles bound for the U.S. for almost a month left Britain on Wednesday, the report said.
JLR, which is owned by India’s Tata Motors, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

WOW!
That Canada is agreeing to this is so nearsighted on their part they are going to find themselves left holding the proverbial bag when this inevitably goes sideways.
Just when you think our northern neighbors can’t be that stupid, they choose to elevate themselves to new idiocy.
The Canadian people had as much to do with this as they did in selecting a new globalist banker to lead them in a surprise victory.
I don’t see that “Canada” as such is really involved. Importers are paying for inventory, shipping, and storage in Canada in the “hope” that in the future they can move the inventory to the US. Looks to me all the risk is on the importers.
Dumping on dupes.
Sad Saps, melting in the snow.
Huh. Am wondering if China cannot unload all their stored merchandise soon, “someone” might begin slapping “Made in Canada” stickers on the stuff???
A search on “China caught relabeling” turns up Korea, Vietnam, Phillipines all reacting to China pulling this exact stunt.
Time’s “Hey, Donald” cover ranks up there with their “Madam President,” not to mention the Trump “Meltdown” and “Total Meltdown” covers.
Did I mention Time’s “Russian Bride” cover, showing the Donald photo-shopped wearing a white lace wedding gown and veil?
So, who’s having the meltdown?
Gosh! CCP is so predictable!
Canada has the worst dictators. No, the elections are not real.
slap higher tariffs on china and canada – break the canadians
Hi Louis, a Canadian dude here. I’m not sure how creating a failed state in Canada would benefit the U.S. Same with “breaking” Mexico. You don’t shoot up your neighbor’s houses and then complain the street’s gone to sh1t. There’s a multitude of reasons why China is leaving us westerners in the dust, and one of them is that they are perceived as steady trade partners who don’t try and change the rules for their maximum benefit when it suits.
$1750 per week… Are they storing them in a Penthouse Suite?
Those imports are getting the Illegal Alien Special price.
They’re probably full of fentanyl
Guessing it is a bonded warehouse prior to tariffs. Tbise can be pricey
Probably in port and railway storage yards. There’s one near me, the CPKC Port Coquitlam intermodal, that is stacked unusually high with containers.
The Carney big talk against PDJT was an election ploy to get Canadians all patriotic. Which meant they would vote Carney; otherwise they would be considered anti-Canadian. It was all smoke and mirrors. Post election Carney has suddenly had an epiphany and now wants to make nice with PDJT. The Carney circus has come to town.
Could they be any more obvious?!!!!!
$1750/wk/container to store Chinese Walmart crap? With 20 -24,000 containers per ship, thats a $35M – $42M weekly storage fee on low margin crap. Great way to go broke. America can only be so lucky.
In light of this news and with a desire to share some ramblings, which should surprise no one, let’s talk about fraud detection. :
These are the things (and I may be missing some — this is just on the legal commercial side; Trudeau before he stepped down and after talks with the Trump administration set up a border security plan. It was likely a lot of hot air, as Canada makes quite a bit of money as a narco state, but one interesting thing that was agreed to was a joint strike force with the U.S. to target transnational crime; this may be of some significance in the future. The drugs are getting into the U.S. at scale — how is it coming in? You would need access to commercial grade transportation; Mean Mary and Methhead Mike the drug mules aren’t going to cut it.
In the meantime, the series above will come with enhanced pressure from the U.S. via tariffs (and it is also important to note that Canada went through with their retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. on ‘Liberation Day’ unlike much of the rest of the world. Canada and China were the two countries of note on this; Mexico said they would but has remained rather quiet and never explained this plan and to date has not acted on it (Mexico appears to be smarter than Canada). The rationalization for this will be (and quite rightly) that the offending country (probably Canada, could be others) that does not expand export controls and/or knowingly enable circumvention of tariffs will likely be hit with more tariffs/retaliatory measures — at a time of the Trump administration’s choosing.
Canada better start playing nice or FAFO indeed.
Trudeau sold BC to the CCP a few years ago. This move does not surprise in the least.
China and Canada have been doing this to the U.S. for years.
The only difference is they’ve just taken their relationship out of the closet.
Who’s on top? Asking for a friend.
Unfortunately for average Canadian citizens, Carney doesn’t care a lick for them and is going to instead use them like an alienating parent uses their child to bludgeon the other parent with after a bad family breakup. The quality of life for canucks is going to descend in a hurry until things get very bad indeed. Alberta will likely peel off in some fashion, I’d suspect, since I expect conditions to deteriorate rapidly and be impossible to ignore by the time referendum voting comes around. Looks like Canadians are going to need to pick a side; ongoing fascist tyranny or boldly attempt to flee the globalists’ clutches (along with Ottawa’s).
Einstein once said that the difference between Genius and Stupidity is that Genius is limited.
Once again, the Canadians are PROVING Einstein’s point. Their short sightedness and willingness to please the CCP shows us that they are no longer our friend. Not an enemy (yet) bur certainly not our friend.
