Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that he agrees in principle with a U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, but the terms need to be worked out, and he emphasized that it should pave the way to lasting peace.
The “root causes” of the conflict need to be discussed in advance of a cessation of hostilities in order for Russia to evaluate terms of a ceasefire, and who would ultimately be in charge of ensuring peace along a 2,000km point of confliction.
President Putin notes a discussion between himself, and President Trump is needed in order for both principals in control of the conflict to understand the terms of any agreement. Keep in mind, this press conference happens as President Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff prepares to enter a discussion with President Putin.
Beyond the Kursk operation where Putin has encircled the remaining Ukraine ground troops, an issue of importance to Russia, it appears that President Putin might be looking for President Trump to be the ‘peace enforcer.’
There’s going to be a lot more that comes very soon; however, it is prudent to be very careful when looking at western media on the issue of Russia’s response.
Putin will never trust the word of the EU, NATO, Ukraine control agents or Volodymyr Zelenskyy. There is only one person to whom President Putin is willing to give a modicum of respect and trust, that’s U.S President Donald Trump. It is an amazing dynamic.

If I were Putin, the first thing I would say is, “You guys started this shit, pay me for my damages.” Something is fishy about this “war”. Russia could have taken Ukraine in a weekend, but it has lasted until now. WTF? It is obviously a USAID op. Did they miscalculate?
It’s good for 4 years. And then Putin will see what the new president is made of. HOpefully by then we’ll be out of NATO.
There is a historical situation that may be worth using as reference for these discussions … the end point of the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.
At the end point:
Israeli Land Forces had: the Egyptian 3rd Army (nearly 1/3 of the mobilized Egyptian Army) surrounded in Suez City and a path to Cairo blocked only by hastily assembled defenses. The USSR (Russian) manned air defenses of Cairo were in disarray and the IAF pretty rules the skies … aided by US HARM missiles and other air to air as well as air to ground assets.
On the Northern Front, Israeli Land Forces had recaptured Mt Herman, cleared the Golan Heights and pushed far enough down the “Damascus Highway” to place the Syrian Capital City and airport under EFFECTIVE fire by their US Supplied M107 175 mm Guns and refurbished-captured (in 1967) Russian M-46 130mm Guns.
The cease fire started and negotiations began … and any moves by “Arab Forces” was met by a hammering and slight advance by Israeli Forces …. until the Egyptians, Syrians and USSR (Russians) realized they had lost. It was painful but there are plenty of lessons examples and history to use during these negotiations. be sure the Russians are studying this because they were on the loosing side.
I see the U.S. coming out of this deal with mineral agreements in both Ukraine AND Russia.
Ukraine has already given its mineral rights and much more to UK in their 100 year agreement. There are no minerals rights left in Ukraine’s hands to sell to the US. They are already sold. Plus almost all of the minerals are on Russian territory. The eastern 5 oblasts are all officially Russian owned.
Russia has however invited the US to do joint mineral work on the Russian territories in Eastern Ukraine which is now all officially Russian territory. US will probably have to work on restoration of the areas around the mines to get the deals.
