Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick appears on CBS News to outline how the MAGAnomic tariff program immediately creates positive outcomes when President Trump identifies the specific targets.
As Lutnick appropriately notes, the EU has received one-way tariff benefit since the creation of the Marshal Plan in 1945. President Trump is on track to finally end this exfiltration of American wealth. Lutnick cuts through the nonsense and delivers a very non-pretending reality as he outlines how Canada doesn’t stop fentanyl, and Mexico doesn’t stop migration caravans.
This is an excellent explanatory outline of how President Trump paints the target, then Commerce Secretary Lutnick supports the targeting, and how foreign nations immediately respond to change their approach. WATCH:
As we notice today, for the first time since last year the Consumer Price Index now shows inflation slowing rapidly [CPI DATA HERE] as basic essential prices on energy and gasoline are dropping quickly and all downstream products start dropping in sequence.
Here is our current status after one month: – mortgage rates are down – egg prices are down – gas prices are down – overall inflation dropping – illegal immigration stopped at the border – wages going up – foreign aid shut down – woke initiatives being removed – massive manufacturing investments ongoing.
Hey, it’s winning folks, and it has only just begun. Lutnick is absolutely correct.

This guy is the best explainer of Donald Trump
Yes.
Don’t bet against President Trump. And don’t bet against Secretary Lutnick.
The video with Howard Lutnick is well worth watching. [Especially the moment he has to explain to the reporter, how a successful businessman is very >polite to his largest financial customer. +Howard Lutnick also explained how egregious Volodymyr Zelensky was towards the USA at the White House.]
Here, the “Tariff Hammer” depends on the economic strength of the people negotiating a deal. As pointed by TheConservativeTreehouse, it’s NOT all win or lose [Yin and Yang], but many negotiated deals can be beneficial to both parties in a business agreement. Howard Lutnick complimented the ability of Donald Trump to negotiate a deal. …. [+As Lutnick reminds the reporter, the negotiating parties should remember who is holding the biggest >hammer, so to speak.]
This is a ‘college education’ course video for people entering a business career in the USA.
Trump is determined to rebuild the US manufacturing base by using Tariffs. Tariffs will not go away until that base is rebuilt. Our survival depends on our manufacturing and our citizens manning the jobs.
And not coming back to work drunk or stoned, which were common occurances in the auto manufacturing plants. No good for half the day…
And that young is too young to remember when things were good, America was on top. Howard remembers. I remember. She has no experiential knowledge of it, at all.
Trump is an amazing leader. But this guy speaks a language that many people understand, including me.
Yep … Fabulous!
Sure am glad he’s on our team
Why in the heck are we supporting all of these other Nations? When American need help? Time to stop wasteful spending and have term limits NOW!!!!
Very insightful interview here. Secretary of Commerce Lutnick is powerful in his explanations and defense of our President.
President Trump has placed the United States Postal Service under the auspices of the Department of Commerce. Gives us hope that with Secretary Lutnick in charge, it will change into an organization that we can trust and be proud of.
Thank you for giving us this video, Sundance.
Please leave the US Postal Service go on. It is essential for many of us.
Hmmm, guess Ford got to Trump big time! A Canadian premier CAN and has every right to put out a surtax on his provinces electricity sales to America. If Ford got nothing as a concession from Lutnick, I would hope Ford puts the surtax back on.
Fentanyl is the excuse being used by Trump for tariffs, considering that 1% of the Fentanyl going into the US is from Canada. The major Fentanyl problem in the US comes from Mexico and China. Same with illegals. Most were going across the wide open southern US border.
Citing Fentanyl as a national security issue allows Trump to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico without having to get approval from Congress.
Guess again Sparky. Ten minutes of fame followed by a world class b*tch slap is not a W. One percent of Fentanyl is a BS number.
Don’t need to guess again. 1% is correct. Fentanyl is just the excuse being used as a work around Congress. Trump said he is annoyed with Canada’s tariffs on dairy products and agricultural products, and thus the tariffs. Not to mention that the US is in devastating financial shape and needs extra cash.
And funnily, Trump wants to re-negotiate the USMCA agreement, after he bragged and bragged about how great the new agreement was. Guess his negotiating skills were not that awesome the first time around, considering the US was the major player in the agreement.
The last 4 yrs has brought about economic changes that probably require a revisit to the USMCA agreement. I would be angry if Trump’s administration was not doing the same with all agreements, looking for benefits for all parties now that the economy has adjusted globally.
Perhaps you are unaware that the Chinese have a very strong presence in Vancouver using it as a money laundering operation and store of value via the real estate market. Fentanyl is associated with this as well.
Now we can see that China is getting this drug here via two channels: MX CA.
Yoo-Hoo Sparky! You forgot to listen when he said USMCA was what he could get through those knuckleheads in Congress…and now he’s bringing the hammer down.
1%? Sparky, where’s your link to cite that source because I sure am not going to believe you on that one.
I shared this above, but it’s a link to counter the narrative that Canada is the innocent victim. I mean, Canadians should be concerned by these numbers (I am!) – which were squeezed out of the RCMP as recently as December!

100% MaineCoon.
Canada wasn’t following the USMCA agreement, smart guy. Which is the part of the problem. They’ve also been allowing China to dump his crap on their soil then brand it as “made in Canada” to help the Chicoms avoid tariffs and regulations.
Ford got nothing and waved a white flag quicker than any Frenchman could.
Really? He paused his surtax because Lutnick wanted to enter into negotiations. Maybe follow some Canadian news and you will see Ford’s interview regarding this.
Yes, Canadia, the powerhouse to the north. Known for their incredible negotiation skills (anyone remember Chrystia Freeland?) and the massive amount of electricity they supply to the US ($300k worth).
Doug Ford must have been hitting the old crack pipe again to muster the courage to strike fear into the Trump administration. And by the way, he’s the best Canadia has to offer.
Honestly, you really need to get your facts straight. Doug Ford does not do crack. That was his brother, the former mayor of Toronto.
FYI: Canada sells much electricity to the US from the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and BC. That is because the US does not produce enough if its own.
Thank you for your input.
I question is that is the real answer, but score your reply as “mostly true”, with the obvious caveat:
in “certain areas, close to Canadian borders, it is true that “America” in those small areas, has energy deals with Canada and has for quite some time”.
to suggest that “America does not produce enough” does not accurately describe the situation. Factually, it is currently cheaper for those small areas near the Canadian border to operate cross border grid networks. And this IS only possible because Canadian energy sold is available and at prices that make it a rational decision for those areas.
https://www.cer-rec.gc.ca/en/data-analysis/energy-markets/market-snapshots/2025/market-snapshot-overview-of-canada-us-energy-trade.html#:~:text=Imports%20of%20crude%20oil%2C%20RPPs,to%20Canada%20from%20all%20countries.
the US and Canada have had a relatively enviable cross border grid “sharing” relationship, in both ways.
but taken as a whole, hands down, Canada does in fact trade more energy TO the US and I believe this strange reality is being questioned as the US does in fact have the capacity to produce much more energy and be self reliant. But I am also reminded that capacity and real world economic decisions and political decisions occupy completely different rationales too. And lets not forget that for the most part is was very large investment by US interests (and some canadian interests as well), to build a vast oil and gas infrastructure to transfer energy from canada to the US. It’s just economically, the smart thing to do. It would cost vastly more for the US to replace that cheaper and easy to transfer energy. What is questionable is the total economic impact this has had for the US as a whole…all goods and services. Apparently, President Trump has determined that in the whole, the current trade conditions unfairly favor Canada at the expense of a trade imbalane for the US. And he intends to close that gap. His decisions may seem onerous, but they are correct based on the figures that I have seen. It’s also classic Trump to hit back hard as a tactic to draw public attention as a means to expert leverage. It is just how he operates. And I fully support this. America has for a long time been represented by whimps and cowards and that is changing. Like it or not, the US with Trump in charge is going to force changes that best represent America first priorities. I believe this be successful and both countries will be better off with a more fair equilibrium and respect for each other.
God Bless America
also, in the bigger picture, canada has an unfair trade balance with the US, and I think this really is the issue if you can to put on the objective factual glasses. Trump isn’t simply antagonizing Canada as you will notice he is also pushing for trade reforms to ALL OF THE US TRADE “partners”….Canada just happens to get all the media new, because our two countries media meatheads have an impossible problem by not relaying non English speaking news items.
That trade balance surplus was used by Canada to import a huge number of non-European immigrants to replace the heritage British, French, and First Nation (Indian) populations, not to improve their standard of living or Make Canada stronger.
“That was his brother, the former mayor of Toronto.”
It runs in the family.
Doug Ford does not do crack. He does fat.
Actually, BC imports electricity from the US to meet it’s needs.
Ontario sells any surplus electricity to the US. Quebec and Manitoba have very large generating dams and much less population and industry than Ontario and thus sell electricity to the US.
“Maybe follow some Canadian news………………..”
It would have about as much factual content as watching an old Dudley Do-Right cartoon.
All Canadian News is slanted to cover the Government narrative. And right now it’s Canada’s Hockey team beat yo a** + Wayne Gretzky bad for supporting MAGA + Orange Man Bad + we are gonna win duh trade war. Any Canadian watching the news doesn’t see how this will end BADLY and QUICK for Canadians! They believe that “we are gonna win duh trade war.” Insane… like our buffoon Leaders Ford + Carnage Carney. What intelligent investor wants to park money in Canada knowing the leadership has literally 3rd world mentality… brutal. Businesses will be fleeing in droves once the reciprocal tariffs go in place (add a bonus increase to our carbon tax around the same date). Loser mentality attracts losers… it’s embarrassing being awake in Canada! Meanwhile we share a border with the LARGEST consumer spending base on the planet and instead of being opportunistic we decide to poke them in the eye and start a war.
Alternatively, a new Gold Card valued at 5 million – and we are offered the chance to be the 51st state – that’s a 5 million dollar gracious gift to each one of us BUT most flat out reject it to live in a Nation in rapid decline! Prideful Fools!
You mean the Canadian news of Trudope et al? Most of the Canadians on this site absolutely have nothing good to say about the Canadian msm. They relate it to ours.
Whether your numbers are right, and whether or not you included the drugs Chins sends in as part of your Canadian numbers, are you distressed because President Trump did not go to Congress?
If so, what js the value that Congress would bring to the problem?
Or is your issue that you don’t like tariffs?
Sounds more like he’s an avid anti Trumper.
The pretending never ends, does it, Sparky? An Ontario premier has the same right to tax electricity sales to America as Chrysta Freeland has to form a nuclear alliance with Denmark to cower the U.S. into submission…but neither came to pass, did they?
What you and Bob and Doug McKenzie in the Great White North fail to mention in your post is that Trump is seeking reciprocity with his tariffs, to even the playing field with all the countries who’ve been ripping America off for decades.
Canada is one of those countries, as you must know! The U.S. commerce dept shows a whopping 63.3 billion dollar (U.S. dollars) trade deficit in 2024 with our neighbor to the north, which amounts to over $1,500 for every man, woman and child in Canada that’s being sucked out of working American’s pockets.
I have nothing against Canadians and I am truly sorry about the disastrous impact the insane policies Klaus Schwab’s tree-hugging protege, Justin Trudeau, has wrought on my neighbor to the north…but if you expect any American citizen to listen to you whine about Trump, your own Country needs some major action to restore fairness to its predatory tariff policies.
“considering that 1% of the Fentanyl going into the US is from Canada”. So, Sparky if 1% of our beer had Arsenic in it…would that still be OK with you?
what are you talking about Sparky??? In December, the RCMP admitted to over 4,000 INDIVIDUAL Organized Crime groups involved in the production and distribution of Fentanyl in Canada… I don’t think Trump needs “an excuse”.
https://www.facebook.com/DaneLloydCPC/videos/shocking-rcmp-confirms-that-there-are-4000-separate-organized-crime-groups-opera/1791623394989103/
Fortunately, most people are a lot smarter than the average Sparky.
“Hmmm, guess Ford got to Trump big time!”
LOL, Canada is a parasite, dependent upon the host. When the host decides to flick the parasite it will be gone.
No, Ford did NOT “get to him, at all. LOL. Ford’s too dumb to get it, LOL.
All the questions come from an adverarial position. The solutions will not work. Things are worse.
The press is the enemy of freedom and free thinking.
Had to have another case of winamins delivered. Howard, you need to have a end of month update.
Must be painful for Lutnick to be on CBS. Still comes across as a happy warrior.
Jeez, I love Howard Lutnick! I gotta say…we Americans who work for a living, are bl-bl-BLESSED to have Lutnick…and Elon Musk and Bobby Kennedy and Kristi Noem and Tulsi Gabbard and a host of others, all working for us and for our childrens’ and grandchildrens’ prosperity…for their Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness…
…and we are ESPECIALLY blessed that Donald J. Trump is our President!
I’m 77 years old, I’m still working and my business is more successful than its ever been…and that’s because I work not because I have to, but because I want to…and Trump is the inspiration for that!
I am inspired every day by the example our 78 year old President sets for me! And he’s setting that example for everyone in America who’s open to it!
This Trump era is not AN American renaissance…it is THE American renaissance and if I die tomorrow I will still feel blessed to have lived long enough to see it!
Well said, LTB! I couldn’t agree more. We are living in History-making times! God Bless the USA…and our President Trump!
Yep, God bless them both!
Thanks for your comments, CB.
Great, but I’d still like a coherent explanation for why we’re going so far out of our way to turn Canada into an enemy. I’d also like to know why the administration doesn’t seem to have coherent messaging from one day to the next around tariffs. Put them in place, or don’t. But right now all he’s doing is roiling the markets and hand-delivering ammunition to his opponents.
I think the reality is that they are tired of giving Canada a free ride. Not only that, but I suspect there is significant resentment over US companies using cheaper labor to circumvent paying American wages (the auto industry in particular). Everyone likes to act like Canada is our best friend, but I think that perspective is quite silly. I would consider us cordial acquaintances, nothing more nothing less. I live near a tourist area, and I can tell you that the general sentiment is unfavorable. I’m sure a lot of Canada has a similar opinion. It’s even worse with the service industry. Ask them about the wonderful tips they get from Canadians!
Look at some of the tariffs they charge us. I know some will say, yes, but many of those don’t kick in unless certain quotas are met. Regardless, do we have those same punitive tariffs on their products (I’ll give you a hint…no). If we institute tariffs, the whole world starts screeching. We’re being reckless and aggressive. Other countries do it, and there’s no issue.
Consider the market turmoil as a good buying opportunity. If you dollar cost average, this recent blip is essentially meaningless.
The difference between a canoe and a Canadian? Occasionally a canoe will tip.
Because spoiled-brat Canada doesn’t like paying its own way in life. Just feels entitled to USA continuing to give them money out of our pockets.
So instead of growing up, and getting a job, they have a temper tantrum and want to live in USA’s basement rent free forever.
Is that simple enough for you to understand?
It only shows how gracious Trump is. He punishes only when he sees ungratefulness. They pull back and show gratefulness, he rewards again. Yes it’s hard to live thru, but in the end if he’s able to get fairness and gratefulness both win. And ultimately I truly believe he wants ALL of humanity to win – if they’re able to be fair and good. We should learn from this – it’s how to get good behaviour out of people in our own lives.
“But right now all he’s doing is roiling the markets and hand-delivering ammunition to his opponents.”
Go ahead and prove you have no clue as to what is taking place. None. Zero, nada, zilch.
You’re right: I have no clue what is taking place vis-a-vis Canada. And since his blind supporters can do little else besides sling insults at even the slightest questioning of their messiah, I’d submit to you that neither do they.
I’ve always liked Howard Lutnick, my view crystallized around him when Cantor Fitzgerald was hit on 9/11. His leadership and compassion through that time, especially given that he also lost his brother when the plane hit made a lasting impression on me and I am happy for his success.
The CBS interviewer is practicing nattering nabob negativity.
Wow! We are so blessed to have President Trump as our leader!!!
MAGA 👊👊🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Apparently the interviewer doesn’t mind what other nations do to us as long as the stock market performs comfortably. Isn’t the MSM special.
Happy about everything but egg prices haven’t come down here in Ma.
Not in central Oregon either.
It takes a few months to grow 30 million layers from scratch. Once they are grown and producing eggs again prices will come down.
Grandson of an egg rancher
Yeah after Biden destroyed all the chickens I understood it would take awhile to shore up the egg supply.
On this point I hoped that P Trump would make this clear instead of saying egg prices are down when they aren’t yet. Idk maybe the AG Sec has something else in mind to quickly reduce the cost.
Otherwise I’m so grateful to God that Trump got in and so grateful for everything…all the immense load he is lifting!!!
Peter Schiff Explains that Tariffs are Really Taxes that make everything more Expensive
Tariffs are taxes. They’re taxes on the American people. The American people need to pay more taxes… because the government is spending a lot more than it’s collecting in taxes.
Thus Trump is raising taxes via tariffs, and it’s going to mean that everything you buy is going to be more expensive because of these tariffs.’
Trump believes that these trade deficits are the world taking advantage of America …. The opposite is true. We’re getting something for nothing because we get to consume more than we produce, we get to borrow more than we save, so our standard of living is higher today as a result of these trade deficits.
Schiff doesn’t mention it but counter tariffs by places like Canada are the government’s way of making the consumer there pay for the tariff war with Trump.
As for the fentanyl excuse, almost no fentanyl come from Canada. That argument is made so Trump can bypass Congress with an emergency.
Canada does not charge more tariffs on average than the US charges to it though things like dairy etc. have high tariffs. The USMCA reduces nearly all tariffs to a minimum.
It takes up to six years to get new steel mills etc. online so Trump is telling you that you need to pay tariffs for years to get some small benefit.
+++
They are a tax on the importer (mandatory). If the consumer wants to buy the imported item, they may or may not, it’s their choice (voluntary).
Most exporters will lower their price to mitigate the tariff impact to keep market share.
Ah yes, because Peter Schiff is the foremost authority on economic matters. Go to the comments section of the Wall Street Journal or some other sleazy business news site, and you’ll feel much more at home. You’re spewing the same tired nonsense that has made our country into a mess. I’m sure if we only outsource more jobs to Asia, we’ll further increase our prosperity. Canada is not our friend or ally, and I’m glad that we’re imposing tariffs on them.
Peter Schiff is lying.
The reality:
Mortgage rates are down – egg prices are down – gas prices are down – overall inflation dropping – illegal immigration stopped at the border – wages going up – foreign aid shut down – woke initiatives being removed – massive manufacturing investments ongoing.
That said, certain things need to be made permanent… or at least hard to reverse.
I love the energy and enthusiasm Howard Lutnick brings to his job. He might be President Trump’s best pick yet.
Hard not to admire the man especially after what happened to his firm Cantor Fitzgerald on 9/11.
Hahahaha. Got a text to take his kids to school…along with a whole bunch of other special people.
When the plane hit the first tower, it was a direct hit on the Cantor Fitzgerald offices. All 682 people in the office perished including Lutnick’s brother.
So, what are you implying? That he had an advanced warning and knew not to go into the office that morning but left his own brother to die?
Absurd.

🚨BREAKING🚨 The media won’t tell you this, but Trump’s America is THRIVING! In just 52 DAYS, inflation is at a 4-year low, gas prices are DOWN, airline fares are DOWN, and companies are POURING money into the U.S.!
GE Aerospace just dropped $1 BILLION, and Japan’s Asahi Beer is moving production to WISCONSIN—why? Because Trump’s 25% steel tariffs WORKED!
And now, he’s gearing up for MASSIVE tax cuts, but Senate DEMS are playing games with YOUR economy. Will they shut down the government or help keep America winning?
Cont (and video with press secretary linked)…
I will make up my mind about what is going on with the economy, our country and the world after there is an AUDIT OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE, and whether there are ANY RESERVES….ANYWHERE.
But thank you Mr. Lutnick for your picture full of Hopium, and that everything is going so swell.
Just stinks that the truth that all the money is gone, maybe never existed, will be revealed with President Trump in office. Snort.
Trump gets blamed for EVERYTHING, even though SO MANY HAVE BEEN AFRAID and HAVE NEVER BEEN ASKED TO EVEN REVEAL THE “REAL STATE OF THE US FINANCIAL RESERVES, ” or if there even are any.
Wish I could say I am not afraid to learn what the truth is. Just keeping my powder dry for awhile on what to do. Going now to buy seeds for the Summer garden.
Peace be to all. Give it all da blessing.
I love this guy! Every time I listen to Howard Lutnick I feel happy for hours.
Excellent!
Canada is the spoiled little brother who wants his big brother to subsidize him for ever. Time to grow up Canada. You had a child lead you the last decade.
Lutnick is a great communicator.
