Pledging never to relent and to destroy President Trump, Ontario Premier Doug Ford placed a 25% tariff on all electricity delivered to the United States. After announcing the tariff Ford said, “It needs to end. Until these tariffs are off the table, until the threat of tariffs is gone for good, Ontario will not relent,” Ford said.
President Trump has found out about the Ontario tariff and has responded, big time:
President Trump made the following announcement:
“Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on “Electricity” coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th.
Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous.
I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA!
Also, Canada pays very little for National Security, relying on the United States for military protection. We are subsidizing Canada to the tune of more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. WHY??? This cannot continue.
The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians’ taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that.
The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World — And your brilliant anthem, “O Canada,” will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen! (more)
As previously noted, President Trump has a massive amount of economic leverage he can bring to bear on Canada from multiple simultaneous sectors, including autos, banking and finance.
Canada has a very small number of economic responses that can be triggered against the USA; however, some of their initial retaliatory effort is not tariffs but rather full-blown Canadian import bans of certain US products.
Minnesota Power bought only about $300,000 worth of electricity from Ontario last year, and only for four months out of the year. The utility serves over 150,000 customers, mostly with power it generates itself in Minnesota.
Matt Helms, public information of officer for the Michigan Public Service Commission, said the impact on Michigan customers is likely to be “small” and most of Michigan’s electricity is produced by utility companies in the state or through long-term contracts. (source)

Ontario premier slams Trump tariffs
( 7 min 03 )
Carney is the best that Canada has to offer?
Not even a paper tiger. He is a pussy. Trudeau V 2.0.
Peak electricity usage won’t come until late Summer. Trump is pushing tarriffs now for that reason, this electricity cutoff threat isn’t as potent as tarriffs tomorrow AM. He’s gamed it out.
Canada’s economy will sink a bit, or a lot, before late Summer.
What a relief it is to have a successful businessman making and implementing national policy.
But Canada’s okay with China’s tariffs?

@ljquinn
Ford made a fatal error, he just doesn’t realize it yet. The Emergncy Action will govern expedited permitting (read days) for new plants all along the transmission corridor. Ford decided to mess with American national security and now Canada will pay the price through substitution. Electricity will be American First with the northern feeds only for price arbitrage, meaning the lowest value for the generator. He tried to play with the big dogs and I think he is going to regret that, BIGLY.

Canadian Premier Doug FAFO. I think that’s how the hosers spell Ford.
“They will pay a financial price so big it will be read in history books”
Yes Mr President. it will be called the great crash of 2025.
See it in real life.

Before all these tariffs the US Dollar was riding high on top of the world at almost 1.10.
Today?

This has never happened…
ever…
Stocks are on sale, the US dollar is on sale…
It’s a buyers market…
Is it just coincidence to you that President Trump already has Trillions of $$$ in foreign investments, especially in tech/manufacturing, formally committed to the United States of America and that DOGE has already identified Trillions of $$$ in waste, fraud and abuse from the formerly entrenched bureaucracies{deep state} ?
Look again…
Perhaps you’ll be able to see the forest through the trees.
In God We Trust
Trust God
Fear not
How long does it take to transition that capital into producing infrastructure? More than a year in many of these industries including oil refineries – that’s for sure.
Concur…. going to use this
Kind of sounds like Main St winning and Wall Street losing.
Yes, the dollar has fallen so far because of Trump and his tariffs, and certainly not because of Biden and his corrupt programs and spending. We hear what you’re saying, and we assess it for all that it is worth, leaving the hand empty. By the way, without truth, nothing useful can be done, so maybe it is time for a little truth, you think?
A “strong $” makes it easier for foreign Govts. to try to soften the effect of tariffs, by devalueing THEIR currency, so some ‘devalueing’ of the $, is just preemptively blocking off that route to them.
And, there is certainly going to be some “adjustment” to shift from a Fed. Gov. shoveling $ out the door to NGO’s, and Manufacturing Companies from around the world moving into the U.S.
Come on man!!! The * junta was perfect… Orangeman bad.
I agree most of the seeds were laid by the Biden admin and Congress.
That said, markets also tend to discount the future. None of the dollar value loss has anything to do with recession expectations? With the recent record setting trade deficit? With the realignment going on in international payment systems and payment baskets? With China’s finding investments other than US Treasuries for its foreign dollar reserves?
It’s complicated “stuff”. Personally, I think its driven by over-valuation (instigated by Fed Reserve QE/Gov’t spending) others in this thread have noted and recession fears (merited or not).
And fentanyl is killing 100,000s of thousands of US citizens, I guess US citizens are not worth much to some. Funny to hear gold folks worry about fiat and stocks, most true PM folks don’t.
Oh. So thumping our neighbors is the answer to OUR drug problem?
I have heard no talk about building more prisons, Stronger penalties, increased enforcement ect.
We have states where drug use is not even a crime. I have lived for most of my life in the so called “War on Drugs” from my point of view it is another war we have lost. Now we blame our own internal problem on others. Its like the fat person blaming the store because the store sells food.
In some nations drug sales are a capitol punishment offense.
In America? We make very popular movies about drug dealer heroes….. like Breaking Bad.
You don’t hear about Canada being a narco state because here in Canada the media is 100 percent bought(CBC) or heavily subsidized by said corrupt gov (the remaining various broadcasters Global …). This journalist Sam Cooper has been reporting on the massive laundering and drug operations with Chinese and Mexican cartels here: https://www.thebureau.news/
Personally I think the stock market was artificially propped up, ie, manipulated, for Grandpa Joe. And perhaps those same manipulators were just waiting for PT, to yank the rug out from under him.
But regardless the market has been teetering on the edge for a while. Tariffs are going to have an impact, hopefully eventually for the better.
PT is resetting the world, and economics is a yuge part of that. So, yes it’s going to be a rocky road for the next few months at least.
He did warn there would be a little “disturbance.”
Yep, he did 😉
Poisoning the water a bit, Auminer? Trump has a lot of long term damage to undo. I don’t think a month and a half is gonna do it. There will be an adjustment phase. Give the man some time and grace. But that’s not the point. Right, Auminer?
I’ve made my living via “trading’ since 2001 after my time in USAF. The market is cyclical. Always has been. Bear markets, aka opportunity, are a necessary part of the cycle.
Because you haven’t figured it out, I’ll help… the people here, as far as I can discern, are NOT easily frightened by monotonous, fear-mongering rhetoric. They’re resolute, steadfast, strongly independent and vastly different than you. Only the uninitiated would post such comments.
Agreed. It’s time to buy calls … bargain hunt the NASDAQ … watch precious metals and buy on dips.
No fear here, Trump has said its time to switch the economy to a private sector driven model and not a tax and spend gov’t model. Its the top of first. Relax and get some peanuts and beer.
I am not frightened in the least. I am just reporting what the markets are doing.
This is not a cycle.
If you have really been a follower of the markets you would know that.
Markets historically don’t like instability. What is going on now is chaos.
Invest wisely.
I didn’t state you were frightened. Reread what I wrote.
You are referring to volatility. Yes, increased volatility ushers in bear markets. Yes, moves of 3% are rare and most occur during a bear market. What is your point? A market correction is on the horizon? We are entering a bear market? Repeat after me… there is nothing new under the sun.
If it isn’t a cycle, what is it?
P.S. Your words “great crash of 2025” is the definition of fear mongering… it is certainly isn’t just “reporting” as you claim.
I am not fear mongering. I am just going from what history tells us.
Right After the Crash of 29, In June 1930. The Smoot Hawley act was passed. It set off a trade war that most believe caused the Great Depression to be far worse.
The depression did not start easing up until the Tariffs levied in that act were pulled back in the 1930s
Trade wars are not good. I hate to see history repeat itself or even rhyme.
Yes, that is the official narrative. Funny how the mostly new Federal Reserve never shared any responsibility. Or FDR who did that gold confiscation thing. Or conveniently consolidating the entire economy under war production to save Europe, I mean London
I reject the Smoot-Hawley trope.
The downturn made everyone want gold, FDR did his thing, and what should have been a recession turned into a large depression. FDR’s policies slowed the recovery down instead of helping like we are taught in school.
Read about the Fordney-McCumber Act… some of the most “punitive protectionist tariffs” passed in 1922 and yet we still had The Roaring 20s. The Great Depression was not a result of tariffs and trade wars.
Very good point. In both cases of these tariffs, European countries had war debt they needed to repay to America. Our protectionist tariffs reduced the ability of European countries to repay those loans because they couldn’t sell as many goods to the US. To whom were those loans owed? Wall Street / US financial system. The bankers don’t like it when their ability to make money via loaning money.
Smoot-Hawley didn’t have that much of an impact. The biggest factor was that the money supply dropped by about one third. Milton Friedman detailed all of this in an academic paper.
I’m going to be patient and see how this all plays out. I don’t know the details of our trade arrangements with other countries, but it sounds like they are very one sided against us. And in the last few years, much of economic growth has been due to government spending. While that counts in the growth numbers, it doesn’t benefit us like the private sector growing does. It will take time and adjustments to fix this very large mess.
“You’re Hired”..
Wall Street is biased against America. Yes, I wrote that and stand by it.
So I’m not at all moved by what Wall Street does in the short term in order to sabotage President Trump’s Administration.
Invest in ethical U.S. businesses who maintain their business operations in the U.S..
+1…
The President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, created in 1988 to advise the U.S. president during financial crises and to help stabilize the stock market. It consists of top government financial officials and is often criticized for potentially intervening in the markets to prop up stock prices.
This intervention goes both ways…
You are right. Wall street was propping up the junta by producing falsely optimistic reports. Now they are trying to derail President Trump’s agenda by doing the opposite.
👍
Exactly, President Trump is looking out for Main Street.
I agree with this 100%. They want cheap labor, illegal immigration, heavy government spending, no tariffs, unfettered Chinese trade, and everything else that’s bad for the US consumer. What we’re seeing right now is a temper tantrum by institutional investors, because they’re not getting their way. They’re like drug addicts constantly looking for a new high.
I agree.
But, what happens in the short, medium, and long term?
I have no control over these things, at least not in any way that matters to anyone but me.
I made a decision to be totally debt free before I retired. That was 28 years ago. I retired at 55.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Kamala had won?
WWIII
Nothing happens in the short and medium term. If you’re investing, you keep dollar cost averaging. This is but a blip in the long term chart. You’re getting cheaper shares (consider it a sale).
👍
“Well, somebody told us Wall Street fell, but we was so poor that we couldn’t tell.” – Alabama
Your invest wisely warning makes no sense. You never try to time the market. If you’re a typical retail investor, you should continue to dollar cost average and take advantage of cheap shares. This includes your 401(k). This is a cycle like any other and nothing more than a blip. I urge to you look at a long term chart of the S&P and report back.
It is a cycle. I fully expected the pullback to about the 5450 range over 3 months ago. Trump has nothing to do with it. If you think anything other than sentiment drives markets, which can be predicted using Fibonacci levels and wave theory, then you should never invest on your own.
Markets can be outright manipulated (and have been). That is historical reality.
Any time there is market power or excessive gov’t interference one is in a regime where long-run competitive price discovery is a great academic talking point.
Sentiment alone does not explain real actors and their decisions.
It is a cycle – read Martin Armstrong. He calls it with timing.
Economies are cyclical as well. Always have been.
Not uninitiated.
Purposeful distraction, doom, and attempts to turn others against President Trump.
Steady streams of them come and go regularly.
“Yes Mr President. it will be called the great crash of 2025.”
The GROSSLY overvalued markets haven’t been BUSINESS FUNDAMENTALS-based for a very long time. They’ve been artificially and massively pumped by trillions of dollars created from thin air and have been after every bubble burst – dot com, sub prime housing – and then during COVID.
Also, markets are after only short term gains and NOTHING else. That’s why our industries are now in China!
Try to do short term negative, long term positive things and the markets have a hissy fit. Until those are IGNORED, there can never be long term fixes. PERIOD.

Well said Winston.
Agree.
That’s cute. Now look at 6 months. Hmmmmm. Still scared?
I am more looking at the market from August 1929 to 1934 when the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act was passed. Getting rid of the Tariffs Smoot Hawley Act ( passed in 1930) put on our trade partners which resulted in a nasty trade war that ruined everyone’s economies.
Europe’s economies were already ruined by the lingering effects of WWI
phooey to you
the recession has been in works for at least a few years under Biden
did you think printing and spending all that money on nonsense
would not come home to bite us?
have you heard of the inverted curve which most always leads to a recession?
its when the interest rate on short term treasuries is higher than for long term
I knew this was happening at least a year ago
Most people with a half a brain saw this a few years back.
In fact, I’m pretty sure a lot of people were talking about this back in 2012 when the market was propped up through stimis.
Overdue for a big correction. No biggie
As the US is directed at being more resource and trade INDEPENDENT, whatever comes will not actually hurt us so badly.
Keep watching the NATO rebellion. I’m unclear of NATO will boot the USA or Trump will exit NATO. I can say if they are successful at starting a larger war in Europe, the US will NOT be a part of it. Will that cause Canada to no longer be an ally? YES.
And let’s not pretend the close relationship between China and Canada hasn’t already made Canada a threat to the US. It has in the same way Panama has.
If you know what you’re doing you can make a killing in this market.
Crypto is down and I’m loving it.
Invest wisely.
As Sundance has stated repeatedly: This is Wall Street Versus Main Street. WS has gotten fat and happy off of the backs of Main Street. They cheated. Now, we are correcting what they did to us.
My money is on MAGA-USA. All the Canadians had to do was close the border to illegals and fentanyl.
But, no. They listened to their Chinese owners and their Globalist managers.
Let’s pretend that it is all going to crash and burn. My money is still on the side of PDJT and his Business Team. We will have the USA up and running in a matter of months while the other countries will hold roundtable meetings discussing when they should meet again to talk about it some more.
Don’t forget that PDJT fixed the ice skating rink in NYC after the squandered millions of dollars and 10 (?) years and STILL couldn’t get it done. He had it done in 8 weeks and for less than what he quoted.
President Trump said they’d be some hard times but when as MAGA had it easy.
Tough to see Canada go down like this. Pride cometh before the fall.
FAFO
Bring it on snow mexicans
Do not want Canada to be the 51 state. It would be like adding another California -population wise–one is enough. Will trade it for Alberta though.
I agree. Who wants another leftist state? They will ruin our country; bunch of socialists.
I agree. I suspect President trump is trolling on that one.
NOPE! See my comment above in the context of a potential global war and our membership in NATO.
I am more concerned with Bondi and Kash not doing anything than I am with Canada.
Have they released the Epstein client list? No.
The JFK assassination files (even though they have already been sanitized)? No.
The FBI is still refusing to answer the question about the murder of Seth Rich because, allegedly, this is still an “ongoing investigation.”
The bureaucratic state or ‘Deep State’ seems to be in control, and that is a real problem.
That is YOUR concern. I have not asked that anyone here agree with me. I am a guess on this forum. I am keeping it that way. Whenever I decide I want everyone to agree with me I’ll go create my own forum and select my faithful followers to join.
If Alberta (and Saskatchewan) were to join the US, the country of Canada is done. China would claim BC, France would claim Quebec. Neither Ontario or The Maritime provinces would survive on their own.
Alberta – IF it comes to that… would be a good addition to the USA.
California’s population and Canada’s population are almost the same – approx 40 million each.
I guess you could say Gavin Newsome is the California answer to Canada’s Justin Trudeau – or vice versa.
10 Provinces equals 20 Senators plus as many Representatives as California. Do you really want that?
Or why not Annex Canada, send in the troops and stop pretending this is some good deed.
Canada would more likely become a US territory rather than a state. But if the whole of Canada became a state? Those provinces do NOT represent senate seats. Two senators per state… but a LOT of house seats.
Saskatchewan would prove a good addition too!
Our ( My residence) British Columbia would be a definite no!
Cheers!
The U.S. can have Hongcouver and Little India. Bigger Dearborns.
Kind of childish wishes.
Be careful what you wish for.
Well Dekester, was hoping you were not mad at the USA,like some posters up your way were trying to make it sound that way about all the Canadians.
Some Saps were giving us quite the Snow Job!
Fake tears and all.
Do you think the government of Canada reflects the will of the people of Canada?
Let’s talk about the strategic interests behind all of this. We’re already watching some interesting things unfolding. NATO (UK/EU) is in active rebellion against Trump at the moment with their attacks “from Ukraine” into Russia. The moment Trump exits NATO, war across Europe will break out. The moment NATO kicks the US out of NATO, war across Europe will break out.
Canada will remain as part of NATO. Then we will have a NATO enemy state across our northern border who is also closely allied with China.
Trump’s interest in Greenland isn’t a joke. And neither is Trump’s interest in Canada..
If we manage to secure Canada’s western coast, it would be enough to halt all Chinese influence there which is a BIG deal in the event of global conflict. And if we did, Canada’s economy would collapse even faster than it is now so they will either get absorbed by the EU (somehow) or by the US.
Every state in the USA is RED. It is the governments of those states and their controlling cities which result in blue electoral college votes, blue senators and blue house seats. The states are more of a “true democracy” and should serve as the main reason why we don’t want a true Democracy for the USA.
So sit back, look at everything we are seeing in full context and tell me what you see after that.
My sentiment exactly! The Democrats will be ruling the U.S. of A. in perpetuity.
Totally. Imagine how many (dem) congressional seats they’d have 😬
Victor Davis Hanson on Canada: https://victorhanson.com/?p=28750
“ So, no one, especially Trump, is serious about making America any more leftwing than it already is becoming—and that includes even inviting more conservative, naturally rich Alberta, into the United States.
Note that no sane person wants statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico (independence, yes?) and four instant leftwing senators. So too Canada in that sense would be even worse, given we’d also have to create and then allot over 50 House seats to the Left.
Instead, Trump is trolling, in art-of-the-deal style by bombast, exaggeration, surreal threats, and fantasies, to emphasize something very real: Canada is not the Canada of old, but heading in the European direction of open borders, DEI/multiculturalism/boutique anti-Americanism, China appeasement, and loud globalist virtue signaling on issues from transgenderism to radical green mandates.”
The County of Ontario?
Let Quebec join France?
Make it so!
Northern Algeria doesn’t want Quebec. But maybe Vegas could annex Quebec.
Why would New York shut down their Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in 2021 and then buy electricity from Ontario, Canada??
I live in NY and I would like to know also. Have always lived within. 30 – 50 miles of Indian Point. Even worked there temporarily decades ago. No problems.
Because traitors run New York.
Because Cuomo and Hochul are environmental idiots!
And environmental liars
Lots of ignorance on these topics as usual. The USA sells electric power to B.C. under a swap agreement. Yes. Power flows both ways, because most Americans and most Canadians know how to get along.
🤔 Because a$$ holes stick together??
(Not sure where the bold is coming from. I did not turn it on–intentionally. But I do have a new mouse and I swear every square inch of it contains embedded commands. grrrr)
The green lobby is strong in the woke.
Green new orange deal bad.
Pipelines from Alberta swing down through the US and then swing back up into Canada to feed eastern Canada. The snow mexicans should consider that before cutting electricity to the US. We’ll make out fine in the cold, but they’ll begin to freeze quickly if those pipelines close.
The proposed Energy East pipeline in Canada was canceled. Maybe Canada will rethink that but in reality Canada does not have the refineries required to refine the heavy crude from western Canada oilsands. Most of their refineries deal with light crude that’s imported. And currently the U.S. is their main market for heavy crude.
Tar sands oil is good for making asphalt and extracting chemicals. Pretty much it.
Canadian Heavy Crude yields large percentages of Diesel Fuel, produced in U.S. Midwest factories.
The heavy crude refining is done in Indiana and here in Detroit and elsewhere. They crack the sulphur, the big step. Then it flows to Canada.
Nearly ALL politicians these days come from college and go directly into politics. They are BRED to become politicians or otherwise CREATED (like Obama and J.D. Vance… what were their original names again?)
They don’t come from the real world at all. Why would they know about details like how energy actually flows? They think they are mirroring Trump. And they think Trump is merely posturing. They might THINK they are acting like Trump, but their impressions are simply wrong.
Again, NATO in Europe is in active rebellion against Trump by launching Ukraine attacks on Moscow. At some point the US will not be in NATO and NATO will continue to exist. This will make every NATO member an enemy of the USA including Canada. And Canada is special with its cozy relationship with China.
This is all FAR messier than most people think.
All the more reason to pull American troops out of Europe and station them along the northern border.
Well, a territory maybe. 😉
As it should be.
Portions work to qualify as states and make their applications.
Difficult areas would remain territories indefinitely.
Easily invaded. As was Vietnam.
Ford resembles that Tim Walz goofball. They must be cousins.
Ha, Doug Ford is the brother of Rob Ford. Remember him? Former Toronto mayor, now deceased. Confessed to crack cocaine use and public intoxication.
Possibly related to your last President. Or maybe the Ukraine Twitcher.
Doug Ford’s brother, Rob Ford, was mayor of Toronto, and had serious alcohol and drug problems.
Mr Ford may be hallucinating if he thinks he’s going to win a wrestling 🤼♂️ match with DJT
“With Ford, Lunacy is job #1!!”
The proposed state of Snow Mexico has about as much chance of happening as New Columbia (D.C Statehood effort.) When someone starts talking about New Columbia to me, I ask: “Which portions of the US Code and the Code of Federal Regulations would have to be repealed so that the new State could promulgate its organic law? Specifically, which laws of the District are federal in scope and which are municipal?”
President Trump, however, can cut this gordian knot quite easily by adding a chunk of Mexico to the equation. Even Panama, Isreal, or (dare I say?) all the Counties that wish to leave their respective States could come into play by realining everything.
Interesting times we live in. Suddenly adding Greenland and Snow Mexico doesn’t seem so farfetched.
Snowdia and Sandia could make some fine additions to our nation.
Gee, and I was getting used to falling asleep to those Ontario turista commercials about how wonderful our trade relationship is and what wonderful partners we’ve been historically. For some reason, they’re gone. Shucky darn.
It’s on!
FAFO
On what? A stupid fight over something that could have been resolved with way less f… drama?
I am more concerned with Bondi and Kash not doing anything than I am with Canada. The bureaucratic state seems to be in control, and that is a serious, long-term problem.
Ford is an idiot for jumping on the Orange Man Bad train. Well, he FA and now he’s going to FO. Believe me, this is not going to sit well with Ontario voters. Ford should have climbed all over Trudeau’s ass about the border. Nut noooo, he had to play tough.
Just remember, Ford is Canada’s version of a “Conservative.” Pretty sure he’s more moonbatty than Carney.
How quickly you forget the past 4 years of Transgender U.S. Policy.
Ford and Trudeau have been swapping body fluids for 10 years.
Canada is not for sale, but it has been available to lease at bargain rates for decades. Extra deep rates for Chynese speakers.
What happens when you bring hockey sticks to a gun fight…
It pucks.
just spilled my beer…….
Trudeau’s confiscation, after some wingnut Quebecois killed a bunch of Quebec college girls, increased the amount hidden guns in Canada.
Most popular? Sniper rifles.
Minnesota Power bought only about $300,000 worth of electricity from Ontario last year, and only for four months out of the year. The utility serves over 150,000 customers, mostly with power it generates itself in Minnesota.
What actually happens is, they have a reciprocal relationship. When Canada finds itself with more need than they have supply, the US gives Canada the supply they need and vice versa.
When Canada produces too much energy, they sell it to the US at a greater discount than the US can make it themselves, but that doesn’t always happen.
Either way, the moment somebody uses any goods or services as a weapon, they must go. Period. Point blank.
I learned recently that the “Power Company” that provides power to my area, does not actually produce any electricity.
They have contracts to buy up any “extra” electricity from companies that do.
Point is, electricity is fungible, even more than oil…
It don’t keep though!
Very true. Lots of small PUD’s operate exactly this way.
https://www.tanc.us/understanding-transmission/the-western-us-power-system/
Think in terms of power grids and taking down a nation’s power.
Especially something as vital as steady power.
As you note; it is common for neighboring utilities to cooperate like this.
The fool only proved that we need to develop substantial power capacity that no Sap can screw with on a political whim.
We shouldn’t be sharing an energy grid with a foreign nation. It’s BAD national security. The energy grid can be fragile as hell as we have seen. A software glitch can take down a huge part of the country for a while…. at the “right time.”
This is a problem Trump’s emergency declaration will soon resolve.
Let the Canadians vote whether to join. Self determination and all that.
VSG has offered to buy Greenland but with Canada he might go the other way like the $5M gold cards and make Canada pay to join us.
Might be a good idea to have carve outs for Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, where I imagine most of the Loons are. But Vancouver is the nexus of Chi-com malfeasance so it might be better to own it and clean it out.
VSG may make King-clown Charles an offer he can’t refuse when they meet up for tea time later.
Topple the Crown

There is a reason Queen Elizabeth didn’t abdicate.
Canada has plenty of problems. But becoming another U.S. State isn’t going to solve anything. You had the Autopact where for every 1 American made car sold into Canada, 1 Canadian made car was sold in the U.S. Now you have USMCA (negotiated by Donald Trump, now being reneged). A twin to NAFTA where American Car Corporations moved manufacturing out of the USA AND Canada to Mexico.
For me, close the Border. We have so much garbage coming into here from Mexico and China that we, like you, need to build bigger dumps.
It will not easily come up to a vote. The voting starts when Canada’s economy collapses. Then they will be voting on which country controls them.
Canadian news outlets are all socialist propaganda machines. They will paint President Trump as evil and blame him for all the woes in Canada. I am not sure I would want all those Canadian leftists to become part of the USA.
The Maples would have to go through an extensive de-Sap-ification program.
Much like post-war Germany and soon the intransigent Ukonazis.
Removing and excising the machinations of China and The Crown make the task obligatory.
The Canadian media is funded by Canadian tax money. Trudope wrapped that little detail up about a decade ago.
Yes yes yes, Great comments. The eat their cake and have it too party is over. Cultural socialist leeches for 50 + years with smug and derogatory, behind the back comments about the USA. All the while pilfering our gold and silver. Is it any wonder they are tide at hip to the fascist Nazis in Ukraine not to mention the Commies in Chiina.
Expose them all and bring it on.
By the way, don’t forget to honor another man for his times the birth of the 7th president of these United States of America Saturday the 15th, Pray with conviction for our current leaders
Correct me if I am wrong, but if you add up Federal, State, City and County dollars spent, including the $2 Trillion in Deficits, isn’t that 40% of U.S. GDP?????
Isn’t that the very definition of Socialism?
“Too Big To Fail” where U.S. Banks get bailed out by the small American Taxpayer. Hmm…isn’t that the very definition of Socialism.
How about taking the log out of your own eye….
It is our log. It is the Canadian log that we object to cause we can’t do anything about their socialism and descent into dictatorship. We ARE, in fact, addressing our own log thanks to DOGE and Pres Trump.
Canadian Judge imposes a TRO on President Trump and orders him to reduce tariffs to zero. /s
Required Ankle-Biter Commie Qualifications Verified!
A Canadian Judge ruled that Tiny Emperor Trudeau illegally declared the “Emergencies Act” (the old War Measures Act).
But…that didn’t get any play in Canadian of U.S. Media.
To be clear, what I posted was sarcasm, just something I made up out of thin air.
The MarxMerdia is a fully integrated element of the Derp State, which MUST be destroyed!!
Ford taxes and spends at a much higher level than previous Liberal Ontario governments.
Most Ontario people won’t be affected if the auto industry grows smaller. They would want more investment in the local economy and less imports. Neither would they want everything based on exports.
Ford kills his own electricity exports via a surcharge. Trump didn’t even need to respond. Ford shot himself in the foot.
IMO… PDJT should give the public a lesson, or at least a reveal, of tariffs that countries pay for our goods and tariffs we pay for their goods. The White House website should make available the charts/spreadsheets of all of the numbers.
That is not the Plan.
CHAOS is the plan.
“But the difference between Trump’s immediate, aggressive use of tariffs and what we saw during his first term is not just a matter of degree. Gone are the days when tariffs were used principally as leverage to be bargained away in negotiations. Instead, the administration’s 2025 Trade Policy Agenda frames them as critical tools to reshore supply chains, revitalize the US manufacturing base, and replace tax revenue. The goal is not to address bilateral trade deficits or punish unfair practices, but rather to protect “the soul” of America and charge a sufficiently high premium on US market access. Negotiating the tariffs away would mean sacrificing these core policy objectives.
This shift reflects Trump’s conviction that the postwar liberal economic order was not the foundation of American prosperity, but its undoing. As he sees it, the US surrendered its economic sovereignty after World War II by reducing tariffs and allowing unrestricted capital outflows.
Trump began to challenge the bipartisan consensus supporting market liberalization and global integration during his first term, but now he is forcing the issue. His solution is to leverage America’s economic, military, and technological dominance to reshape global trade flows to its advantage and correct decades of misguided policy. That’s what the “reciprocal” tariffs are intended to do: not to create negotiating leverage, but to restructure global trading relationships.”
https://tippinsights.com/trumps-tariffs-are-not-a-negotiating-tactic/
Trump decided that the rest of the world couldn’t leech off our generosity, and doesn’t care if they don’t think it’s “fair”. It’s past time to tighten up the belt on spending and right the ship.
Canada is a US welfare state.
Hopefully the verb will soon be ‘was’.
I can’t help but think about the consequences for us when Canada becomes an economic and social basket case. We share the longest international border in the world with Canada — 5,525 miles long. On top of that, 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of that border. We may have to build more bridges (or walls.)
President Trump should place the order NOW for another 2,000 miles of 30-foot-high steel border barrier sections. Canadian socialist politicians are faithfully following the Venezuelan model of economics. Canadians will likewise eventually start digging in dumpsters for food when their government runs out of other peoples’ money.
THE DAY OF THE RAKE IS UPON THEM. TRUMP IS GONNA RAKE UP UP THE LEAVES.
Doug Ford just stepped on the rake.
That’s where I thought he was going with that…
Where’s Sideshow Bob when you need him?
But it was a short rake handle. Only about 3 feet. Dare to picture it.
This is going to right the USA. Why the heck were people buying electricity across an international border?!?! It would be fine if Canada were a US State though…. just sayin’
Also, with all of the economic leverage Trump has over Canada, will NATO step in to attack the USA over this? 🙂
Why are they so unbelievably stupid?
Just seal your border.
Stop ripping us off.
It’s not complicated.
They won’t last one week without our money.
Stop being assholes, Canada govt !
Mostly, it’s because politicians are actors who audition for their parts and not inherently qualified people. Didn’t you know that’s why Trump is considered to be an outsider? It’s competence.
True, but cartels and drug dealers don’t just depend on political stupidity. I wonder how much drug money ends up in Canadian political pockets.
Saint Trump. Sorry, my friends. The biggest Rip-Off of your Country was by your fellow Countrymen who were robbing you blind.
USAID is but a tiny glimpse of how the American Taxpayer, the Working Poor, and the Innocent True Believers were being brutalized .
We know.
That’s why we voted for President Trump.
A saint? No. A great President? Yes.
Looks like the clean coal plant that services my county in Northern Minnesota won’t close after all. It was supposed to be shut down this year.
Idjit Ford playing right into Trump’s hands. Can’t wait for the “Canada Invades America” headlines as US troops cross over the undefended border.
Might is Right. Nothing new here for the History Books.
FAFO is the term thrown around online and with young people
I agree……I love this
am tired of hearing of other countries crying, whining and threatening
us when they have in President Trump’s words, treated the US badly for decades
Now I’m old enough to remember “Ukraine has every right to protect its borders and its sovereignty”…
Ahem…
So do the Ukrainian oblasts that voted independence and protection from Russia. All of the voting was monitored and certified by the United Nations.
Perzactly and America.
I’m a Canadian.
Canadian leaders, fuelled by Canadian media hysteria, have irrationally decided that Canada will enter a years long recession due to trade war.
To end recession they will have to do all those things for Canada they refused to do in the past. Build the ports and pipelines and end green taxes and endless red tape and federal interference and so on.
Either they will do that or they want a much poorer socialist Canada that will look like Venezuela.
If carbon tax, Carney runs Canada you’re gonna lose everything.
Historical retaliation. Don’t think Canadian leadership will ever be known for their high IQs. lol.
I am repurposing this from another Canada thread….
They have a $62 billion surplus with us, and that is a far larger share of their GDP than it is of the US’ GDP. Translation – they have infinitely more to lose in an all-out trade war than we do. The cost of actually executing on the border control that Trump demanded is infinitely less than the economic loss from a trade war.
Given all of that, the only reason for them to escalate instead of capitulate is because those that are pulling his strings are intent on crashing the economy in order to first neuter Trump in the midterms and then get the Uniparty back in power to get things back to the usual Globalist baseline and put all this “nationalist/populist nonsense” to bed for good.
Regardless of where the above scenario ends up, Canada is screwed.
Folks, we all know what the fear mongering over the market is all about… The boohoo whining and crying has one purpose and one purpose only. President Trump’s approval numbers.
The smelling salts gang do not give a rat’s behind about the American people. PERIOD.
“Canada is not for sale”, says the fool’s sign. As the Biden joke went: “True, China’s already bought it.”
Someone pointed out the other day that in trade wars between countries with trade surpluses (net exporters) and those with trade deficits (net importers of goods, net exporters of money (i.e., debt and thus control)), the latter always won. They had the most to gain, after all. Sometimes they could still be worse off, but not by as much as their partners-turned-competitors.
I disagree with Trump on his expressed opinions that trade deficits are an expression of national malice by America’s trading partners. Do I agree with his actual views behind that trolling? -Damned if I know. Probably?
Insofar as there was malice, it was by bureaucracies forcing manufacturing out of the country. I think tariff reciprocity is a fine idea that will help MAGA if and only if that regime of ever-growing, strangling, corrupt, monopolistic, parasitic red tape can be broken. That’s the “winning!” that is necessary for everything else.
First, the 41k market is artificially inflated with Government money. When the question is asked where did the money go? Obama & Biden both printed and poured money into the economy to keep it afloat.
the transition will be that markets fall. the guy has been in office for 50 days. It took Regan 18 months to turn the pathetic economy around.
Canada 250% to 390% tariffs on American dairy products? I think we need 400% tariffs on anything they try to ship to us.
Foreign Energy ? What mother trucker did that? why is it a secret? One Guess the New Green Deal.
Stop with all the sky is falling BS. we endured the Obama & Biden administrations for 12 years. Trump has been in office for 50 days. Calm down!
Trump may be able to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine, but who will bring peace between the USA and Canada?
Well Zelensky has been given standing ovations in both countries houses of rulers – Congress and Parliment or whatever Canada has. So there’s something both have in common. Maybe he could be a mediator since he’s all for peace.
That’s a good question especially since the two countries have been able to peaceably share the longest unfortified border in the world since the Treaty of Ghent.
isn’t Ford the meth addict.
among other things. The guy has a long history of arrogant, self-destructive behavior, drug abuse, spouting is fat mouth off and he keeps getting elected and re-elected. He is not a decent person and likely never has been.
No need to engage with the guy. Just hammer them until they cry like babies. They will. The USA holds all the cards.

The American worker has been suffering under a trade war for the last 40 years. It’s gutted the heartland, shipped jobs overseas, and in states like West Virginia, left our people w/ breadcrumbs.
