After announcing the tariff Ford said, “It needs to end. Until these tariffs are off the table, until the threat of tariffs is gone for good, Ontario will not relent,” Ford said.

“Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on “Electricity” coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th.
Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous.
I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA!
Also, Canada pays very little for National Security, relying on the United States for military protection. We are subsidizing Canada to the tune of more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. WHY??? This cannot continue.
The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. From Sam Cooper’s reporting on this topic (find him on X), it seems that the RCMP (roughly our FBI) & CSIS (roughly our NSA) & CBSA (roughly our TSA) are largely aware of such things, but there are several problems with actually doing anything about it.
One is our legislation is badly out of date on being able to prosecute the various activities and there’s been little will on the part of the feds to update it. RCMP end up gathering evidence with which they can’t do anything.
Two is that there are CCP moles lurking in the agencies, in particular CBSA, which have caused the corresponding American agencies to lose trust in the Canadian ones and stop sharing intel.

They were in their full military attire right down to their black boots.

I stood and glared at them but didn’t see them shift their eyes toward me. However, reading how good their military is, I felt for sure they were aware of my presence.

Can someone explain why we just don’t come out and say just that publicly? This is about the security of the Western Hemisphere. Otherwise, people miss the point and see this as a pissing contest.

I’m waiting for more facts. So far I see some sincere concerns, conjecture and assumptions. I’m perfectly willing, and encourage, President Trump to make a clear case for all of this, and why he says “51st state” regularly. In his post today, he made references to the benefits of being a state of the U.S., no closed border, etc. I would contend most of those were pretty meaningless to Canadians.
There is certainly a difference between western and eastern Canadians. They see each other somewhat differently. The westerners are proud of being western, seem more independent minded. Easterners are much more liberal, pro government control, etc. Regardless, I see no realistic avenue towards this.

All our medicine pretty much is made in China. How the heck did that happen and who allowed it? This country has been so furbar’d over the last I don’t know how many decades. All the horrible things we thought just happened, like the oil shortage in the 70’s, infflation, jobs and industries leaving the US to go overseas and them telling us we were becoming a global ‘service economy’, and all the perversion and left wing crap that was straight out propaganda bought and paid for by our government meaning us, I could go on and on. All the things Trump is trying to correct at lightening speed. This country has never faced an enemy so effective in destroying this country as our own government.

Forever, there has never been a Free Trade agreement with Canada or Mexico. Never! This is an intentional misnomer by those that benefit.
People are now realizing, despite what the Canadian politicians are saying, is that Canada has overall, had higher tariffs (and other barriers – see below!) than we have on Canada. Notice that all the Canadian politicians keep using the term trade war, when all Trump is saying reciprocity. (In addition to the situation in regards to drugs such as fentanyl)
Years ago, I was working on a project to source a foodservice milk concentrate in a special package for use in the USA. People on the business side pushed a company in Quebec, but I quickly realized this was a financial impossibility due to US quotas and tariffs (but they were much less than the Canadian quotas and tariffs) . Try to ship any dairy product into Canada – they are 100% full protectionist with their dairy industry. Along the same lines, try to find a US bank in Canada – they do not exist!
However, do not think only in terms of tariffs in regards to international trade! It is a much bigger, complex situation. In addition to tariffs, there are other taxes (e.g. VAT), quotas, and regulations. So, even if tariffs were totally removed, countries use other means to keep your products out!
The solution (?): I believe the main way to look at things in therms of trade deficits and go from there.

OK, I have a question. President Trump and others talk of the tariffs Canada has, and has had, on American products moving into their country. Can someone list, or point me to a list, of these tariffs please. I know they are out there and I want to educate myself so I can school others!!

All the Canuck’s needed to do was stop the fentanyl, among other things, going across the border. Evidently, they either have no desire to or don’t have the resources. Canada always has had tariffs and duties on our products. I have Canadian relatives and remember having to hide higher dollar items we were bringing in as wedding gifts. I always asked why their cars were more expensive up there and why don’t they buy cars down here? Their answer was the high duties they’d have to pay if they bought the car in the “states”.
