President Trump’s repeated position that Zelenskyy is refusing to discuss peace because the USA is standing close with him, is exactly the reason President Trump is now going to create distance.
CUT HIM OFF – President Trump is going to force Ukraine to stand without the USA support, only supported by the EU and U.K. It’s essentially a peacekeeping standoff. President Trump wants peace, the Ukranian people want peace, Zelenskyy and the EU/UK are willing to fight Russia to the last Ukranian.
It’s not about sending U.S. military goods into Ukraine, the Trump play can be twofold. (1) We stop paying for their government operations; and (2) potentially we turn off the U.S. satellite targeting systems that Ukraine is using. Then watch what happens.

The EU nations can try this, but I don’t think this will work, nor will it be accepted by the American people.
1) Ukraine is not a NATO member (even though this was promised to Zelensky by NATO members);
2) The European NATO members have been placed on notice they have not fulfilled their side of the treaty’s financial and military obligations for decades; and
3) Any placement of NATO member troops in harm’s way within Ukraine (to trigger Article 5) will be declared a willful manipulation, rendering the Article 5 trigger null and void in the eyes of the American people.
As noted elsewhere, all President Trump needs to do, is turn off the US satellite data feed over Ukraine (which NATO depends upon), and this would render any erstwhile NATO action within Ukraine moot. Tariffs and shipment blockades would do the rest.
I think President Trump understands most Americans do not feel obligated to respond to a European gaslight/manipulation of NATO in pursuit of European bloodlust to war with Russia.
NATO only expects the US to intervene when DEFENSE is needed when a NATO country is attacked.
The UK/EU volunteering to go fight in a non-NATO war between non-NATO countries does not compel the USA to get involved in their fight.

When the USSR collapsed, Ukraine became independent and Washington stepped in —not to help Ukraine, but to weaponise it against Russia. The U.S. & @NATO lied to Gorbachev, promising they wouldn’t expand “one inch eastward.” Yet NATO moved into Poland and the Baltic States.
The West poured billions into Ukraine-funding pro-NATO political groups, NGOs & media to manufacture an anti-Russian state. In 2004, the @CIA backed the “Orange Revolution,” overturning an election that favoured a pro-Russian candidate.
The real coup came in 2014. Ukraine’s democratically elected president, Viktor Yanukovych, rejected an EU trade deal that would have destroyed Ukraine’s economy. That was unacceptable to Washington. So they removed him via a manufactured colour revolution.

Going back through history for the last 100 years…Ukrainians culturally remember how the Russians treated them during the Great Famines of the 1920’s and 1930’s. Famines which were entirely contrived by the Soviet authorities, as their own government absconded the plentiful wheat harvests away.
When Nazi Germany rolled through in its campaign to war against the USSR, the Ukrainians welcomed the Nazis as liberators from the Communist oppressors. Nazi organizations never went away, even as the USSR pushed the German army back through Ukraine (and subsequently punished the Ukrainian people for their traitorous support of Nazi Germany). Ukraine’s Nazi’s simply went underground.
I don’t believe the “fellowship and comrade” talk about how close ethnic Ukes and Russians are. They are not.
Zelensky, once in power, directed the recently resurrected Nazi regiments to begin artillery shelling of the ethnic Russians in the eastern provinces – not because these Russians were subverting the government, but because they were simply Russians living in the Ukraine.
There’s a powerful undercurrent of hate that divides the Ukes from the Russians. This divide against Russia may well go back centuries, to when Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania were strong kingdoms of Eastern Europe.
It’s a mindset that’s not going away with a treaty. Zelensky is living proof of that unrelenting mindset of hate.
The difference between Soviets and Russians is substantial.

And, after listening several month ago to Tucker Carlson’s interview with Vlad Putin, I realized that there is a lot more going on with Russia over GENERATIONS than what the average American knows or understands. In watching/listening to this interview, I learned A LOT! It was obvious that Tucker’s interview did not go the way he probably intended, in that Putin insisted on Tucker learning much about Russia over the last many hundred years, and not just what Tucker wanted to know…basically about the Ukraine stuff. In order for Tucker (and American’s…The WEST) to understand how Russia has come to be where it is these days, we needed to learn about their HISTORY. So, I learned a lot, and don’t demonize Russia.

So Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic shifting to Democratic government and joining NATO were provocative moves without a substantive history motivating the moves? The Baltic States did not have the right to solicit entry into NATO? Same for Finland and Sweden? Many of these countries had been brutalized by Russia during the Soviet era. Russia has attacked some of these states (e.g., Georgia).
I understand your argument. What I believe is missing is the reality that there was a history and that some of these countries were certainly opting for the NATO blanket based on past aggressions by the Soviets and more recent aggressive actions by the Russians. I think you are correct that in the 21st century, Obama specifically (but clearly Bush, Biden and the EU as well), there was a shift in US priorities toward undermining the security posture of the Russians.

I definitely think that “Z” should have no access to Starlink. Don’t give him what he needs to direct his long-range missiles. I know that the Starlink system has this selective capacity.
This conflict is continuing because of the United States, and because of huge amounts of money that are regularly flowing into “the wrong hands.” (Politicians in DC would say, “the right ones – ours.”)
If we simply act decisively to “turn off the spigot,” the conflict will dry up immediately. For all their bluster and blow, EU/UK will not step into the crack.

Im old enough to remember the fall of the old USSR. Shortly after Slick Willie went to Ukraine and made a deal that they would give up their nukes for US to disassemble. In return Willie gave them a promise that the US would protect them against Russia.

Remember, the US military planned the failed “spring offensive” last year that was supposed to turn the tide but ended with burning Bradley fighting vehicles and Ukrainian soldiers maimed in Russian minefields.
Trump can also turn off military planning help (probably USEUCOM), pull SOF teams out, and shut down Ukrainian access to any US- provided SATCOM. I doubt INTELSAT will shut them down if they’re leasing transponders, but there’s the potential for exerting some pressure there, too.

Sundance, my whole issue regarding the visit was the interference conducted by the US Senate, particularly, Klobachur and Graham. Both met with Zelenskyy prior to the meeting, a meeting where terms were already agreed on and only the treaty was going to be signed. Yet, after meeting with Congress, specifically the two mentioned, he puts on a show.
Well, my question is this and I obviously think this happened- if Klobachur and Graham influenced Zelenskyy didn’t they violate FARA? They are not registered and their only foreign policy responsibility in Congress is to advise the President on and then ratify or not ratify, after the President signs a treaty. Everything else falls to the Executive per the Constitution.
So, fix the problem and start charging Congress people appropriately. Enough is enough.

Pulling military aid is one thing, but as long as the government funding keeps flowing, the war keeps going.
As long as we are covering Ukraines financial needs, they have no real pressure to negotiate. Their government isn’t struggling, their economy isnt collapsing, and they can keep the war going indefinitely. This doesn’t really get them to the table.
If the U.S. cut off financial support, reality would hit fast. A government that cant pay its people or keep basic services running will eventually have to make tough choices and that could finally push them to the table.
Right now, Ukraine has no incentive to agree to a ceasefire because the government is not feeling the pain.

Most of you don’t have a good idea of what’s going on. If you did, why have you allowed your own country to get into the state it has? And I could ask the same question of the people in my country because our general parlous state is about the same as yours.
Some of you do however have a good idea, and many of this group inhabit fora like this.
It’s the same in my country. Don’t take what I say personally.
There’s about 5% of people in all populations who see what we see. It has nothing to do with socio-economic, IQ, education, or any other demographic. But we saw that in Covid. It’d be interesting to see what % of people here got the jab. I suspect it would be quite small.
But long story short, people like us take criticism and give criticism because that’s how we learn. It’s not personal. Rip my post to pieces, using logic and facts, I don’t care, I will respond.
