Rubio might have taken a more diplomatic approach which might have better appealed to Z’s extraordinary ego. Zelensky hates the idea of peace because any peace will be on terms no better than Russia had already offered at the beginning of the war, cementing the fact that he sent a large fraction of Ukraine’s young men to their graves and many of its towns and cities to ruin for nothing.
He accepted a bribe from Biden/Obama to let his country become cannon fodder for an American proxy war against Russia in exchange for a personal cut of the hundreds of billions of dollars this proxy war would cost. It was save your country by making peace and go broke, or condemn your country and your people to massive destruction and get rich, and he chose the riches.
Sure, Biden/Obama and the profiteering hawks in Congress flattered him that he was fighting to get all of Ukraine back from Russia, but there was never a shadow of a possibility of that happening. Russia would absolutely use nukes before it gave up the warm water port in Crimea that it finally, after centuries of war, won from the Ottomans 1783.
No one has ever doubted that this was a nuclear red line. Just letting NATO encroach on Russia’s borders was an undisputed nuclear red line. The biggest disaster for Ukraine would have been to defeat Russia in the non-nuclear contest. Then they simply would have been annihilated.
A real Ukrainian patriot would never have let himself be flattered into ignoring this existential reality, but Zelensky did let himself be bribed into letting his country become cannon fodder for an unwinnable proxy war, a war of attrition against Russia with Ukraine being the attritted opposition.
He can’t admit that he did that, any more than a parent who helps destroy his child’s life by affirming the child’s school-implanted transgender delusions can admit that transgenderism is a delusion. Trans has to be real, and Ukraine has to take Crimea back from Russia, because responsibility for errors of such magnitude becomes inconceivable, for those foolish enough to make them in the first place.
Zelensky murdered his country, or half-way murdered it, for absolutely nothing on the other side of the scale in the way of national interest. He should never be able to escape that judgment, but he is not the worst by far. All those profiteering Congressmen are worse, and Obama, whose goal was to have Christians killing Christians, is much worse.
(Obama has been following the instruction of Muhammad for Muslims who live amongst non-Muslims, that they should pretend to be non-Muslim themselves, the better to “turn the non-Muslims against each other, for war is deception.”)
And the George Soros, Victoria Nuland, Samantha Power, Anita Dunn, totalitarian “progressives” are all much worse. But they all worked through Zelensky, and he let them.
I beg to differ about your start of the war comment … from November 2021 to the start of the war in 2022, Russia AGREED to resign the 2014 Minsk accords, which means the Ukraine would not have lost anything, people nor land.
The US, EU and Ukraine refused the offer and to even discuss the offer.
