It has been hilarious to read all the analysis of the’rare earths’ deal. The analysis was all over the place: Trump is a genius, Trump is trying to find peace, Trump is an idiot, Trump is just another neocon…you name it. “Elenskyy is coming to Washington to sign a deal!!!” Trump had almost everybody believing that. All these pundits projecting their low-insights into this. I commented here and elsewhere that the ‘deal’ was a honeypot of sorts. It was an offer that had to be refused. First of all, what ‘rare earths’ are in Ukraine? DRC and elsewhere in Africa, yes. Maybe China, yes. In the years running up to this trap, rare earths were discussed in the context of EVs, and Ukraine was never part of that.
Elenskyy was never going to sign off on it. He only came to DC in a gambit to try to commit PDJT to some of Elenskyy’s terms.
It was a trap from the start.
The ‘deal’ was like that precious glowing something in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. PDJT ballyhooed a ‘deal’ so well, he had Macron on his knees begging for a piece of the action. Then the UK snake, who thought he could pull a similar fast one on PDJT. He blowed up real good.

Trump’s next move is not to find some peaceful resolution via Zelenskyy, his next move is to find that peaceful resolution with Putin. Any further war effort on the part of Trump will be his defeating the members of congress that have made it their mission to perpetuate the war in Ukraine.
From what I have been reading, most of the critical minerals are already under control of Russia…30% if not more. Have not seen any scientific backup, but one never knows.

For his part, Trump made clear that the US would continue delivering military aid. All Zelensky had to do was remain calm for a few more minutes and they would’ve signed a deal.
The argument started when Trump pointed out that it would be hard to make a deal if you talk about Putin the way Zelensky does. Vance interjects to make the reasonable point that Biden called Putin names and that didn’t get us anywhere.
The Zelensky/Trump dynamic was calm and stable. It was when Vance spoke that Zelensky started to interrogate him. Throughout the press conference to that point, everyone was making their arguments directly to the audience. Zelensky decided to challenge Vance and ask him hostile questions. He went back to his point that Putin never sticks to ceasefires, once again implying that negotiations are pointless. Why on earth would you do this? Then came the fight we all saw.

That is someone who believes they are invincible and that is what coke does for you I’ve been told by many! Actually, fwiw little Z has chutzpah, as I saw a clip of him about a year or two ago talking & behaving similarly while standing in the woods, apparently near the front line in a small group of uniformed Azov(?) Ukrainian soldiers. He was standing face to face and in strident debate with their leader, a borderline giant of a man.
