KYIV, Nov 21 (Reuters) – Russia fired a hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile at the city of Dnipro on Thursday in response to the U.S. and UK allowing Kyiv to strike Russian territory with advanced Western weapons, in a further escalation of the 33-month-old war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a televised address, said Moscow struck a Ukrainian military facility with a new ballistic missile known as “Oreshnik” (the hazel) and warned that more could follow.
“A regional conflict in Ukraine previously provoked by the West has acquired elements of a global character,” Putin said in an address to the nation carried by state television after 8 pm Moscow time (1700 GMT).
A U.S. official said that Washington was pre-notified by Russia shortly before its strike, while another said they had briefed Kyiv and other close allies in recent days to prepare for the possible use of such a weapon.
Regardless of its classification, the latest strike highlighted rapidly rising tensions in the past several days.

The US just removed our only carrier group from the middle east, leaving the area without one for the first time in many years. Why now? This is a ‘tell’ that this administration is taking this escalation with Russia seriously.

On Nov 11. The USS Abraham Lincoln was attacked by the Hothis (Ansar Allah) from Yemen. Drones, Cruise missiles, and anti ship Ballistic Missiles were used in the attack. A few days later It left the Red Sea area and is now heading back to the USA.

The US seems to have manufactured only 300 of these ATACM missiles, and Ukraine would only have a small portion of those. The UK SS missiles are likely not any more prevalent. Russia will want all of these gone before an agreement comes (So would Trump, I bet.). These launches may be a prerequisite to that coming deal.
US/UK crews fire these things. They could be fired at cow pastures, if desired. Russia’s launch could be a reminder that only cow pastures should be hit.
It behooves all to wrap this up now, including Trump. He’s not likely involved at all. He doesn’t need to be. The situation is clear to all. Ukraine can’t sustain, and Russia is undaunted. A deal is coming, or Ukraine suffers more. Trump would eventually voice this privately, and when the Uniparty and Deep State shrieks hysterically, he’ll let them try to make their case. We’ll see what happens then.
