Tonight, Vice Presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz will debate for 90 minutes in New York. The debate is being simulcast by CBS and will be moderated by Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan.
The debate is scheduled to begin at 9:00pm ET and run until 10:30pm ET. The debate will be in Studio 45 at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York. There will be 4 breaks for commercials. Tampon Timmy looked uneasy and flustered at times.
I liked the part where he was nodding at what Vance was saying about Trump and then Vance flipped his statements to show how it was good and why Trump was the best choice, can’t remember the part off hand but it was towards the end.
And every time he said let’s not blame the immigrants, but let’s blame Kamala Harris’s policies that has allowed all the illegals in.

But remember, we do have a good percentage of pearl clutchers who find him abrasive and too much for their “delicate sensibilities”, even though they agree with most of his policies. I heard essentially that from the person I watched 20 minutes with. I personally find it more than annoying that many on our side actually think that civility matters. They are only half-in. Ready to quit the game if they dislike the look of the board.

Vance’s gentlemanly manner disarmed Walz and even soften those two harpies a bit. It made for a different kind of debate which no one was expecting. Vance has great presence, a sparkling intelligence and an easy folksy communication style, which should have wide popular appeal.
On the abortion question, JD brought up a girl he knows who had an unplanned pregnancy and had an abortion because she was in an abusive relationship. He says ” I love you” and continues on that Republicans have to earn the trust of women on this issue.
That woman is someone quite close to JD and every woman heard what he said to her there.
That was a humanizing and compassionate statement in a sea of propaganda and by lines.

My 2 cents….
I read here regularly but rarely chime in…as I’m just heading to bed reading comments and just have to say, I’m wishing tonight was a home run and JD had been more ( kick ass) demonstrative in explaining to America what mayhem Walz and Harris represent in terms of far left ideology. Yes, I think it was a good debate. Both sides came prepared. Walz was surprisingly likable and held his own without answering fully for his far left ideology or that of Harris. Generally, I don’t think either side of voters were swayed—Both presented well so in my opinion it was a wash. JD was articulate and likable—I wish I could say unequivocally that our side won. But, I think Vance was tame compared to what I think many Americans would have wanted him to unleash given the recent/current experience of punishing vax mandates, open illegals, energy crushing inflation and most of all collusion in media censorship that this administration has promoted. Sorry for the truth bomb. I just can’t sugar coat what I see.
I don’t think it was a tie because past the words JD Vance said, his demeanor, calmness, and kindness spoke even louder than the words he said, and I think it might have resonated with a lot of people.
Though you could argue that there was much missing in the content of Vance’s answers and that Walz got away with whoppers, this event was more about introducing a likable and very capable Vance to the public. It did that and more: Vance came off as genuine. That’s a win all around.
FACTS I try to remember when assessing political debate performances:
Percentage wise, few voters actually watch any political debate.
70% of communication is NOT conveyed by WORDS.
The impact of any debate requires many DAYS or longer before useful data can be collected.
Hopefully Vances performance was good enough to energize President Trumps base of already persuadeds to be 100% FOCUSED on Real World DOING ie vote gathering so we have a joy full 2016 November to Remember outcome rather than the gut punch of 2020.
Then check the polls if you think you watched something you didn’t. There was a clear winner.
Don’t you think JD was aiming at any undecideds and not at the party faithful on either side? Remember how the MSM portrays our side and JD was showing what MAGA people are born in this land. (I watched Ben Hur last night.)

Scoring political debates is subjective ie a sort of self revelatory rohrshach ink blot diagnostic test.
Typically each person who engages with The Debate Game creates their own criteria, or accepts someone elses, for judging how people did and deciding who won, who lost and why.
Fortunately, President Trump is GOAL oriented. His current GOAL is getting enough VOTERS to have a 2 Big 2 Rig landslide voter turnout over these final 34 days. That means the ONLY way he would score the VP debate would be based on pre debate, post debate then post election polling to determine whether the VP debate caused him to gain or lose voters.
We are in a win or die WAR that’s masquerading as an election.
Consequently, debate scoring =/= personal I wants satisfied but instead == I needs received ie the ammo (votes) gained or lost which will be unknowable until the battle is over.
Walz did better than I expected. I hated how he brought up some things that were clearly wrong, but there wasn’t time for JD to respond. That made it look like Walz’ lies were true. I worry the masses who don’t follow this stuff like we do will be fooled that Walz is really that ‘nice guy’ he has been pretending to be (when he is really a communist).

I think you’re wrong about Carson and Vance has always been well spoken and quick on his feet. His debating skills was not the reason many were opposed to Vance. The debate likely didn’t change any votes either.
I sincerely disagree. People are conflicted. There’s something about Kamala Harris they don’t trust, especially about her shiftiness on the economy and open border. And Walz tried to smear Vance as being weird. Who came across as weird? Every vote matters and JD Vance won the debate with aplomp.

In this instance, based on commenters reactions, whatever point was meant to be sent was not received as intended.
The point it appears you were making was that Carson WAS/IS capable of handling himself in a way that would have destroyed Walz, just as Vance did. I guess I would challenge you to provide a single link, to a single speech or debate performance that we can all see- which gives you the ability to come to your conclusion.
My contention is that you could go to ANY speech, or ANY debate performance and you can clearly see that he is incapable of what we saw last night. If you can find one, and post it here, and state specifically what in that performance gives you such confidence….I’ll happily eat my words.
I don’t think such a performance exists. And what I do know is that there’s an orange billionaire who agrees with that contention. And that guy and made a VP choice based on it.

My original comment was intended to express that the opposition to Vance was not because of his debating skills.
So you’re contention is that Carson would have found the proper balance between polite and aggressive? I’ve watched Ben Carson debate….I can’t even count how many times. His approach is humble, but almost shy. It’s nice, but almost soft. You can not do that when your opponent is a avowed marxist, and the moderators hate you, your party, and the country.
You have to take it to them. And we know what isn’t his strength.
My point in all this is that there was a heavy contingent of people who wanted Carson chosen at VP (including Sundance, I believe). And I think we saw why Trump was right, and they were wrong. And the reason it matters is because we need make sure were all on the same page on the KIND of leaders we need going forward. Tough, aggressive, “professionally confrontational”. This is no moment for gentle.
Something to remember going forward.
Sadly, you’re correct. But there are lots of roles in the future Trump Administration that Ben Carson would be perfectly suited for.
He also doesn’t have the energy, nor interest.
He had the energy to run for President. Carson is not a politician and I can’t imagine how you might know what his interests are?

Actual Common sense includes having functioning survival instincts, threat awareness and the ability to FOCUS on what needs to be done right NOW.
Donald Trump is running and has the energy at a more advanced age. He ran 9 years ago as well- I’m glad you can add numbers.
Common sense would say that the highly educated, highly skilled and much younger Carson is perfectly capable to do the same.

At the first commercial break, my #VPDebate focus group says by a 10-3 margin that JD Vance is winning.
That is a big deal since only 5 of them were leaning toward Trump-Vance when the debate began.

I believe they know how bad the internal polls are and so now they just want to line their pockets as best they can and the heck with the country. I would wager that they will absolutely destroy the white house upon departure – much worse than clinton/gore team did.
JD Vance did great- smart, articulate and a couple of eye rolls that were priceless…. Walz- (who in my estimation was a clown- running on to stages and waving his arms like an overfed Cheerleader) looked like he was a trapped rabbit for the first third of the debate (which of course was slanted to the Dems) but then got more comfortable, He failed when he asked about lying about being in China when he said he was – he should have just admitted he had made a mistake but I thought he was better than my expectations were. Vance hit it out of the park and as a smart,well educated younger man with a great backstory, is a perfect running mate for Trump, down to the part about his slamming Trump years ago and then learning more and changing his mind.
And., if I understood correctly from my readings elsewhere, he then told people to bury any numbers in that category.
I remember that being the first bill Obama voted on when he became a senator.
