Today, the House Oversight Committee [aka ‘Chaff and Countermeasures Committee] is questioning Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, on the “Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump.”
Director Cheatle is under fire for the catastropic, almost deadly, failures to provide security to President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Republicans are using the opportunity of Cheatle’s appearance to find answers about the events. Cheatle is not expected to remain in office as the transition from Joe Biden to Kamala Harris happens in the White House.

Basically, it exists to thwart government snooping. Using it on government devices and/or by government parties to communicate within government should be viewed as “circumvention technology” as it relates to FOIA. Most laws governing government employee behavior are toothless. That needs to change.

In listening to the answers and responses by the Secret Service Director, there ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION done by a group of former secret service agents and Butler, PA local law enforcement to gather information and get to the bottom of what happened. There should be no assistance (actually interference) by the FBI or Homeland Security in said investigation and all findings are immediately made public for our country to understand exactly what transpired. If there was criminal intent, criminal referrals will be made and charges/indictments will follow without regard to political pressure.
The gatekeepers of official information from DHS will never allow this to happen.

Local police have a hard time dealing with witnesses and evidence located outside of the city they work for. I was surprised that in Florida city police have no jurisdiction or arrest authority outside of the city. Generally county sheriffs have much greater authority.

When I was on the job, our agency relegated unqualified persons like Cheatle to administrative duties (a/k/a ‘The Rubber Gun Squad’) doing things like evidence inventories and collecting urine specimens from new recruits.
Umbrellas are prohibited too. Rally attendees must discard and leave behind (outdoors) any/all prohibited items before passing through Secret Service screening to enter protected Rally area.
I attended two rallies, I had to discard my bottle of water ,and was also advised when I RSVP’d no 35 mm cameras allowed. inside.
People were given fresh bottles of water once we went through security.
They left nothing to chance before this regime came to power.
Correct you are, my friend. I learned the rules when I worked as a volunteer at a PA Rally in 2019. Spent most of the (rainy!) December day outdoors walking the rope line, greeting folks, passing along reminders about what was allowed through Secret Svc screening, etc. Attendees had brought lawn chairs, portable canopies, and coolers for food and beverages. IIRC, alcohol was not permitted on the premises. I had no encounters with anyone who appeared impaired. I would work another Trump Rally in my region again without hesitation.
*I met Scott Presler that day. He had spent the day doing what he does best: running around with his clipboard supply of voter registration forms, visiting with the folks along the rope lines, and being an outstanding spokesman for President Trump and the Republican Party.
Rally Volunteers keep their eyes and ears open as they’re making their rounds through the enormous, wonderfully courteous crowds of Trump supporters. If/when we see or hear something that seems amiss, we locate a paid staff person or security personnel – whoever we can grab first -and alert them immediately.
No way the events under discussion in this Committee Hearing happened accidentally.
When I went to the Ocala rally they did everything but make me strip and cough.
These 5 minutes each congressman gets to ask questions is a waste of time. Not enough time to deep dive especially when most of them want to give a speech. Get a small handful of professional interrogators and give them all of the time they need. If she (or others) do not answer the questions they should be held in contempt of congress.

Find out from Dan Bongino what forms they need for information and go from there. Asking questions is a waste of time, because you know she isn’t going to answer them.
That and the fact that there are 46 members on this committee makes it way to large for anything but 5 minutes of questioning! The committees have become way to bloated so “every member of the house can be on a committee”, or so it seems. The absolute max should be 24 -28 members per committee and members should only be on one committee.
The one rule I would like to see instituted in both the House and Senate is that if the committee is having a hearing with other outsiders(witnesses, nominees, etc.) for presenting or questioning them, then all attending committee members should have to be present throughout the entire hearing. Not just be bopping in to get their 5-10 minutes of soundbites and then leaving. If there is a floor vote going on, they can recess for 15 minutes and go vote.
There’s 20 permanent committees in the House, 21 in the Senate, and 4 joint committees–plenty of committees for all members of both houses to be on at least committee.
Are they trying to find out how she failed at the assassination or vice versa?
