Well guys, it has come to pass as anticipated. Joe Biden has announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential campaign.
Within his announcement letter, Biden says, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President.”
Don’t get too caught up on the details, remember this was always going to happen. None of us should be surprised.
Biden was always a one-term disposable President, and that was confirmed as soon as his Obama handler, Susan Rice, left the White House in 2023.
Within moments of his announcement to withdraw, Biden then endorsed Kamala Harris.

The Kamala endorsement comes through a multi-angled prism. You can make the argument Biden is attacking back against Obama and Pelosi for undermining him.
Kamala was NOT Obama/Pelosi’s chosen ’24 candidate, but the political landscape is totally different after the failed assassination of President Trump.
There’s an argument to be made that Democrats see the 2024 election as too formidable now, Trump looks too strong, etc. And from that perspective any Democrat thrown into the race is being thrown into a losing situation. Perhaps Obama/Pelosi are cool with Kamala taking the loss, now.
The thing to watch is whether she picks Newsom as her running mate, and if Newsom agrees. If yes, then the bet is they can defeat Trump. If no, then the needle points in the other direction.
This part is the sketchy part, it’s the part that I was the least certain about when I said in 2022 that Biden was going to resign – no doubt.

It is not beyond the realm of possibility that there will be 2 sets of elections this year.
The “planned” elections (federal-CONGRESSIONAL ONLY, state and local) will occur as planned on 5 November 2024.
The federal-Presidential elections will be delayed by ALL the court battles that may be needed to allow the DNC to put new candidates on the ballots past the State legislated filing dates.
The fun is just beginning.

Just a friendly reminder … The constitution allows CONGRESS to adjust those laws. Nothing is set in concrete.
The courts can also rule.

The people who are already voting for President Trump are not going to be changing their votes. If anything, some of Biden’s votes will now be going to RFK Jr, so Trump’s lead should be greater with Harris as the nominee.

No, the Courts have a long established precedent that the political parties are free to violate their own rules, to “cheat” in their primaries if they want to, for instance.
The answer to such cheating (say the Courts) is in the politucal arena.
In other words, if the base of a party don’t like that the party is “cheating” in the primaries in order to control outcomes and thereby disenfranchising the base,…its up to the base to do something about it (not the Courts).
Leave to the party en masse, elect new officers to party control positions, form of a new party, switch to an opposing party are the most obvious ways that the party base can address the party leadership abusing its base.

The Biden-Harris campaign took little time to officially drop President Biden from its namesake Sunday, filing paperwork kicking the president off the ticket just hours after the 81-year-old went public with his political-earthquake of a decision to withdraw from the 2024 race.
In a filing with the Federal Election Commission, the campaign asked to rename itself to “Harris for President” and designated the Harris Victory Fund and the Harris Action Fund as its joint fundraising committees.
“Vice President Harris is now a candidate for United States President in the 2024 election and will henceforth be conducting campaign activities only in pursuit of that office. This committee’s Statement of Organization and the Statement of Candidacy are being amended accordingly,” her team wrote in a notice.
The name change filing came shortly after Biden’s endorsement of Harris to become the Democratic Party’s standard bearer. Harris has affirmed that her “intention is to earn and win this nomination.”
The campaign ended June with just under $96 million cash on hand, per FEC filings. When combined with allied commitments and the Democratic National Committee, that jumps to over $240 million.
Republicans had hinted that they might try to mount legal challenges in a bid to stymie Harris from tapping into that monster war chest or complicate efforts to change the names on the ballots.
So what’s the over/under on what price the Occupant and his family held out for in order to step aside?

I will go out on a limb and say Biden is quite ill and had no choice other than to drop out. I am not buying the COVID story. He had some sort of neurological issue last week. Him getting off AF1 on Wednesday was pretty evident that he has either progressed quickly in the past month with his dementia or something else just happened in his brain.
