The FBI are in charge of the investigation of Thomas Matthew Crooks; that does not inspire any confidence. However, it does explain the seemingly controlled leaking of information to the various media sources in order to keep the eyes of the public exactly where the investigators want them.

The latest information to leak out includes revelations the FBI is going through 2 cell phones, a laptop and some USB drives belonging to Thomas Crooks. From the same sourcing they are saying that Crooks conducted online surveillance of several public officials for several months [NY Post Article].
In addition, the Wall Street Journal is sharing that Crooks flew a drone over the venue of the Trump rally earlier in the day in order to scope out the best place for attack.
SUMMARY – In addition to bringing explosives, a detonator, a ladder, a range finder, a backpack and an AR15 rifle to the rally, while finding a way to sit atop the counter-sniper position, the 20-year-old without a social media footprint apparently had air superiority.

The details the FBI are leaking, essentially a narrative they are intentionally constructing every day, is essentially trying to give the appearance of gross incompetence as an explanation for what happened.
We appear to be watching the FBI create and sell a ‘mistakes were made’ narrative every day.

Listening to the recording of shots, the first three are measured, perhaps from a seasoned gunman. The next grouping sound like from a novice. There are lots of explanations but would be interesting to be first on the scene and count the casings.

Ive been to a trump rally and had to register before attending the event, but I don’t think a picture of the setup, such as seating & staging were made public on the website. It’s pretty much first come, first serve when being let into the event, meaning you better get there early to wait in line all day if you want to actually sit down. If not, you’ll be standing for hours & hours. My point is: I can’t imagine this dork (Crooks) could plan all of this out in one day wo the knowledge of how everything would be laid out & wo attending any prior Trump rallies. I’m not buying it.

I dropped the pictures down thread.
I can drop my rough analysis of the facial features, but it’s lengthy, really lengthy, there are vast differences between their faces, and great similarities with Yearick. Of significant note is the ear modification on Yearick in his mugshot, and the healed scar from that stupid “gauge” being removed and sewn up on his final pose, that process of healing alone, let alone the time it takes to stretch an ear out like that, would have to be evident in Crooks’ earlier photos if it was actually him.
Also, the noses are vastly different, the philtrum below the nose is quite distinctive on Yearick, nothing like Crooks’, huge differences.

Per Josh Hawley the FBI tried to kick him out of the site while he was there to see the area for himself and talk to people before the Hearings in Congress this week. See my reply above. Typically the FAA issues a TFR bubble over an event like this, with corresponding closures of the airports within the nearby vicinity. DHS, FBI, and State aircraft are typically only ones allowed into the airspace.
The Feds could and should have had a drone. Crooks, if observed launching and recovering a drone in a TFR, would have been stopped ASAP and probably detained, though I doubt PA or the FAA would have prosecuted a non-pilot certificated person for that infraction.
At even a tiny airport a drone can be spotted & taken down within 60 seconds. They give the operator one & only one notice their drone is being deactivated.
Not illegal to fly that drone at an airport. All that’s needed is to get proper clearance from the airport. It’s done all the time.
Was the airport even open during the rally, or was it used as a parking area for attendees? It’s only about 1400 feet from the president’s podium to the threshold of runway 18. I would expect that security personnel would have issued a NOTAM closing all flight operations for the day.
Where the drone operator needs to be careful is with prohibitions flying over a gathering. Not supposed to fly directly over a crowd. That’s for the private operators. Government operations, and those who ignore regulations are known to do as they wish.
I’m within 5 miles of municipal airport. Need pre-approval from FAA specifying date time and duration of drone activity. Even got FAA registration for the drone. Useful app is B4UFLY.

I think the greenery is trees, they got down low for the shot are looking essentially horizontally along the roof line, rather than down towards the ground.

I thought there is an airport not far from the site of the rally. It was my understanding that there are prohibitions against flying drones within a certain distance of an airport and so wondered about the discussions earlier about drone technology not being used by the SS.

I am not buying the FBI’s narrative. How have they gathered so much information about Crooks’ preparations?
For instance, how did they know that he was at the empty grounds earlier in the day, flying a drone around the property?
If any law enforcement or security official would have seen the drone and operator, at the very least Crooks would have been brought in for questioning.
