Engoran was the judge in the non-existent fraud trial, brought by Letitia James , regarding Donald Trump supposedly overvaluing his assets in order to receive loans, which of course he paid back in full and on time, but evidently that doesn’t matter. He is the judge who came up with some crazy bond of 450 million dollars that had to be paid in cash within a week or some such thing. I think it was reduced by 2/3 on appeal but the case is still pending as far as I know.

The court has an exit ramp and I pray the judge takes it by issuing a directed verdict at the conclusion of the prosecution’s case in chief. The judge can declare President Trump “Not Guilty on All Counts” as a matter of law.

After the Controller testified that he alone decided how to account for the payment, with no communication with anyone else about it, I don’t see how this case survives a motion to dismiss after the prosecution is finished presenting evidence. There is simply no fact issue for the jury to decide.
The jury has to detirmine the veracity of any testimony, including the comptrollers; yes he SAID that, but did they BELIEVE him?

But there will be no evidence to the contrary to dispute his testimony because it’s true. Trump would not get iinvolved in that level of detail. Then the jury must decide based on the evidence presented. They can’t just make stuff up. They can’t give a verdict based on nothing more than “I think he did it.”

What if a vindictive judge ordered that an accused law enforcement officer be jailed until trial with gang banger/cop killers etc? (Yeah, I know that place of incarceration is generally decided by another agency but that’s not my point).
