As we will do with each primary contest, this is the dedicated thread to the results from the primary caucus in the state of Iowa today.
Forty delegates are up for grabs. Delegates are distributed ¹proportionately. Caucusing begins at 8:00pm ET. We can expect results from the first-reporting precinct caucuses around 8:45pm Eastern Time tonight.
There is no Democrat primary caucus in Iowa this year as the DNC changed the primary contest. A few people, me included, have long suspected the DNC primary change was not necessarily about the DNC, but rather a change to provide space for Iowa and New Hampshire Democrat activists to influence the first two republican primaries as a block Trump strategy. We await the data to see what happens.

¹Delegates are proportionally allocated to Presidential contenders based on the statewide vote. Each candidate receives (candidate’s statewide vote) × 40 ÷ (total statewide vote) delegates. Round fractions to the nearest whole number. If there are too few delegates allocated, the candidate nearest the rounding threshold receives the additional delegate. If too many delegates are allocated, the candidate furthest the threshold loses a delegate.

Trump won, 37%, in one Polk co precinct that someone observed, de-hal- nic-ron tied at 28% each.

Lately I have been having conversations with conservative friends I don’t see often, are of the opinion January 6 was Trump’s fault. But they despise Biden and they don’t know what to do.
Once I discussed the fact that the RNC and the DNC could care less about the American public and was doing things for their power. He was able to see why Trump makes the most sense.

I was thinking about this … the election board in Iowa apparently publishes the counts while people are still voting. I don’t know what law governs this but if the election board is OK with it then the media is free to report on it and make predictions. I think it might have to do with everyone needing to be at their caucus sites at a particular time, not like regular voting where you can stroll in a minute before the polls close.

A relative in Pottawattamie County says that 45 of 72 votes there went to Trump.

It definitely was low turnout. In 2016 according to wikipedia 186,932 people voted in the Iowa GOP caucuses. I do think weather was a likely factor. Iowa and some other states were plunged into a major deep freeze on Sunday. When people go to the caucus sites they have to wait in line outside, I suppose there was some hustling to get them in quickly but it surely impacted the turnout. It’s all good though. If Trump won every single county it was a major success and the Dem interference failed.
This morning it was -17 in Des Moines. Raw temp not including wind chill.
Based on election result figures I think the total number of votes will be around 117,000.

It was at Iowa in both years that we started to hear GOP Establishment saying — the rules put into place in the early-1970s made it so the Party chooses the Nominee, not the Voters. That it was a Media Spin that the Voters pick the Nominee…
Ted Cruz got it in 2016. Ron Paul seems to have gotten robbed in 2012. Then, after an Iowa Loss, the Establishment can paint the Populist as a “Clear Loser” so “don’t waste your vote”.
I’m glad it turned out they didn’t pull that again this time…

Bush got 41% in a multi field. No one else even came close.
Haley has the money backing to get to SC.
Think this is the end for DeSantis. He’ll be on the ballot in NH but will his money PACs continue to spend after his dismal Iowa showing.

SE Iowa. My caucus update.
Overflowing crowd. I’ve been going to these for many years and it was the biggest crowd I had ever seen, other attendee’s echoed same.
Sign in took forever as the lines were stretched around room (photo ID required). I was sitting at the corner of a table just waiting for the event to start when my state House rep came by in line.
He endorsed The Vek the other day. I took the opportunity to get into an argument with him over his decision. I blasted his ass with facts and his responses were the lamest crap. His first come back was Trump and the vaccines to wit I replied President Trump wasn’t in office when the vaccines came out. Then he hit on Trump and the new FBI building. I yawned…So what? I replied. That’s your reason for endorsing a first generation Indian Hindu immigrant whose not eligible for the office of the Presidency?
Needless to say it was obvious he’s got the TDS. I told him there’s no way you vetted Ramaswampy, he said he had long talks with him. I laughed at that. You call that vetting?
Anyway, once we got rolling those of us that wanted too could get up in front of the room and speak for our candidate. I was right, there was no Trump Captain at our caucus. That was kind of disappointing. I spoke for Trump.

A Vek supporter came up to me afterwards and thanked me. They said they hadn’t done the deep dive on him and they appreciated what I had to say about him (Vek) when I spoke.
I got a text from a buddy. His precinct in Des Moines proper got overrun by Dems. He knows cause his commie neighbor attended and brought people with them. Nimarata won that precinct. He was pissed.

All I can say is at least Trump won, however the % he won does not make me feel comfortable that there will be a fair 2024 election if there is one.

Maybe the cold weather was to blame, but the total vote in the caucus was far, far below that in 2016.
