“Years from now, it is unlikely anyone will remember that thing they unwrapped. What they will remember, what will have much greater impact, is a message from YOU to THEM that they matter, that they are loved.” ~Sundance
I first wrote about the great foreboding in 2021. I never thought it would apply to a second, third or fourth, advent. Essentially, this national foreboding stems from a Godless political effort intended to diminish the true meaning of this celebration. Seriously! Stop for a minute. Just stop.
Stop and think about the purpose of that political narrative; then ask yourself, are you succumbing to it?
This is the day of great joy, the greatest joy of all.
A day when we celebrate a loving and purposeful blessing provided to us by our Creator. The universal truth. The pure perfection of a loving Child born in the most ordinary fashion for us, to us, to guide and share the most blessed and purposeful message that could ever be delivered to mankind: You are Loved.
Pause amid the human distractions. That message of love is pure.
Stop, sit in peace and join together in the joy.
Yes, it is true, all around us is this great sense of foreboding ugh, and it’s not just connected to our sense of division and targeting; it’s everything before and everything since.
Everything created around us, by government, is weird. Everything created around us is less comfortable, everything created around us is intended to project less joy – and as a consequence, it requires an intensity of thought just to carry on ordinary events.
Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is tonight and tomorrow. Yet almost everything created by the mechanics of men seems purposefully placed to distract from that joy – and focus our attention on what joy we are missing.
Diminished faith creates anxiety, a sense of foreboding, a sense of fear and worry and a sense of trepidation. Additionally, evil tribesmen know the strategy to create the environment for control is isolation.
Isolation, the tool to remove hope, begins with a diminishment of God.
A faith-filled person is never alone.
In our daily lives, we encounter ordinary disconnects now. For many, isolation from the workplace has disconnected our sense of interaction, our human connection.
Unfortunately, and as a natural outcome of these social and technological advancements, we are accepting greater disconnect and creating a void inside ourselves. At the same time many people are physically disconnected from their families.
Many families will not gather this year to celebrate the joyous event of Christ’s birth. Perhaps parents and grandparents will not see their adult children for the first time in years.
Perhaps destabilized families are disconnecting as they succumb to cultural fractures, political division, economic challenges and purposeful roadblocks created by people who appointed themselves as leaders.
It is almost unbelievable when you contemplate the damage. Politicians, yes P.O.L.I.T.I.C.I.A.N.S, have created terms and conditions, instructions for you and me, with the expectation that somehow, we will adhere to their fiats or accept their cultural aspersions. I reject this.
I reject this effort with every fiber of my being.
Division, regardless of intent, is not a term or condition that I will accept. However, amid all of this bombardment, flux and ugh, even simple tasks like decorating the Christmas tree can feel for some somehow senseless, perhaps even less joyful.
Perhaps financial worry, again driven by the outcomes of man, stems the joy in shopping for family and friends.
Perhaps the shine within the cheer is slightly dimmed, because all around us is something we cannot quite describe, yet we feel it.
Perhaps tears flow at times, and we struggle to understand what this unusual anxiety is all about. Then, we begin to struggle with the feelings of shame or guilt for being weak and allowing our humanity to pour out of our human selves. Then, at the worst possible time in the year, our faith organizations are slow to understand the importance of fellowship and community amid an upheaval that has taken our center from under our feet.
The insufferable lack of regional leaders standing tall only makes the anxiety worse. Where is the brave?
Where are the purposeful few who know the benefit of larger messages? I do not fault their absence, because their void reminds me to stop, look at that face I see while brushing my teeth, and remember the greatest strength of all is from within. Nothing has the capacity to remove the strength provided by a loving God unless we allow it to, unless we allow them to.
As our grip on our familiar surroundings becomes more tenuous, we are faced with dictates and mandates that only exacerbate the issues our community faces. Meanwhile, this ridiculous media drumbeat an incessant noise intent on destabilizing us. Perhaps we cannot quite put our finger on why the impact is worse now…. but it is. This effort of theirs is more impactful. It is all ugh. It is all just ugh.
If you find the assembly of these simple words familiar to your current sense, first understand YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Second, understand there is nothing wrong with you. This blanket of anxiety is laying across our entire nation, indeed the entire world, and no matter where we stand – we are all sensing a various level of this ‘ugh’ with some familiarity. However, that said, it is important to know this is transitional. We will not be in this place long. This too shall pass.
How do we shake these destabilizing feelings and emotions?
How do we reconnect to the core-spirit we carry in our lives?
These are the questions we should use to leverage ourselves back to a center of peace and hope. These are the questions that empower us to recharge our sense of purpose and life within the lives of others, including our community, family and friends.
♦ The first way we shake this ‘ugh’, is to give to others without reservation. Giving with purpose is the true spirit of human contact. The giving is not related to money or wealth, the giving is related to our human purpose. Perhaps we give a smile. Perhaps we give a kind word. Perhaps we give a compliment, or perhaps we just give time to another.
You could give a more valuable gift this year to anyone simply by reaching them. Perhaps send an email; or better yet, write a letter to a dear friend or family member, or just pick up the phone. Reach out and tell them they matter and express why their place in this life of yours is important. Remind them of your specific thankfulness and connect to the purpose of why we endeavor in this thing we call life.
Years from now, it is unlikely anyone will remember that thing they unwrapped. What they will remember, what will have much greater impact, is a message from YOU to THEM that they matter, that they are loved.
That moment you create, perhaps those multiple moments provided by your strength, will NEVER be forgotten.
That look in your eye or sound of your voice that reached into them and emphasized their value, their worth, their importance. That is the gift they will remember in great detail, forever.
The important thing is to give, and to do it without any other intent or purpose than to fill their heart.
♦ Within the giving, remind yourself what this journey is all about, and look around to recognize how fortunate we are to have this life.
Choose to cherish the ultimate gift from a loving God who wants joy and hope to permeate our human sense.
Hope is the one necessary human element beyond all other facets of life. Give the gift of hope and light to those you love by first reminding yourself of the gift that a loving God has given us all. It is too easy in our human sense to forget the biggest gift we have been granted, the gift of life. The ability to live and choose how we engage in the lives of others.
Remind yourself of the kind of purposeful HOPE that would leave the most glorious throne to be born into a manger as a baby, only to grow into a Man willing to lay down His everything for the flawed people amid humanity. Why? Because that hope is pure. That love is perfect.
No politics or false sense of security can overwhelm the message of HOPE that a loving God has provided. No effort of man or human disposition can surmount the greatest love of all. The message of Christ’s birth is bigger and greater than any COVID virus or legislative battle.
“No power of hell, nor scheme of man” can come close to the purpose of God’s intent and love for you as a unique person qualified to receive that love.
Wrap yourself in the blanket of that unconditional love. Stop what you are doing.
Pause in the peace of this moment… set down your troubles, LISTEN and FEEL.
“Long lay the world in sin and error pining, til He appeared and the souls felt its worth. A thrill of HOPE; the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn…”
Let the tears flow, and with them release the foreboding. Engage in the next moment with a loving purpose filled with the HOPE that He provides. Fall forward to the centered purpose of your life, a very special life, and reflect on the gift we are too quick to diminish.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.”
Revelation 21:1-6
Abiding love to all.
You matter.
You are important.
You are loved.
Steadfast,

God bless you and your family, Sundance. And all the CTH Staff. And all Treepers. The Lord bless you all with peace and safety. 🙏😇🎄
I’m listening to so many wonderful Christmas songs and music, beautiful, so soothing.
Discouraged, I am, because we aren’t vocal in the public sphere.
In this point ti time. this song applies best, IMO.
Sorry, wrong link.
THIS ONE:
Blessed is the Son of God. My Duty is to Him and the Father, alone.
Rejoice in the opportunity of eternal life through Faith and Obedience to God and Jesus Christ.
All good thing flow from God and through his Son.
Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, spirit and strength.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Joyous Christmas, everyone!
The Good Lord is here with us and with his help all things are possible. One just has to have faith.

THANK YOU CACTUS
i Grew Up Reading Shape Notes and Singing 4 Part Harmony.
BLESSING TO ALL. MERRY CHRISTMAS and HOLD CLOSE To THE TRUTH.
Merry Christmas; our Savior is born this day, and He is the Good Shepherd.
Thank you for that, Sundance. Merry Christmas and may God bless us all and our Country.
Be like Scrooge when he awoke on Christmas morning with a new gladness to be alive and a zest for giving and helping others after the terrible foreboding he experienced during the night before.
And thank you, Charles Dickens, for writing that wonderful timeless story that it is never too late to change and repent.
Thank you for always knowing exactly what we need. You always encourage
And remind us that God is in charge. May Jesus continue to be a source of
Blessing to you and those you love. Merry Christmas!
God’s blessings to you and yours Sundance. Praises to our Lord!
Sundance, You too are truly loved. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family. May God bless you.
🙏 Happy Birthday,
Baby Jesus! 🙏
Standing around like the trees waiting for the sap to rise. Beauty surrounds us from the spider web sparkling with rain, the deer pushing each other around in the orchard, the sounds of roots growing and trees breathing. My friends the Stellar Jay, the squirrel racing up and down the tree behind my computer monitor all of them make me happy. Loved ones keeping the wood stoves warm, singing in the kitchen. It’s all good, Sundance. Joy to the world.
ATHEISM: The worst of the worst. – We’re surrounded.
“We’re surrounded!”
“GOOD! We have been looking, for months for the enemy, so we could engage him.
THIS simplifies things!”
Christmas presents or Christmas presence.
For a number of years I would take my parents (individually) to an event to give memories they would like. The New Glenn Miller Orchestra, Ralph Stanley, or Sloss Iron Works (Birmingham, AL, quite impressive if live near there) with dad.
A museum, play, or music mom would like. I think once went to Russian Dancers. Once I gave tickets to dad for the Oak Ridge Boys.
A Christmas movie at the old Alabama Theater is always a treat this time of year. Oh, carols being played on the “Mighty Wherlitzer” organ and the crowd singing along. Merry Christmas!!
What a great memory. Too bad they don’t still have singalongs . People always used to love them.
Thank you, Sundance!
GOD WILL NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER
When God puts a thought into your mind
Do not dismiss it and leave it behind
Whatever it is He asks you to do
Do not tarry or do something in lieu
Obedience is an act of faith and trust
Do not hesitate do it now you must
His timing is not ours and never will be
There’s a reason He calls upon you and me
We are His Hands His Feet His Eyes to see
We take dominion on this earth to be
We love we hug we care for each other
We give of our gifts to one another
When God says we must do it now
Do not stop and ask why and how
Give it your best – take time to be and do
The manifestation of God that is you
God will not take ‘no’ for an answer
Hop to it do it – be not a prancer
Do not delay or ask Him why me
Just be what God needs you to be
God will never ask any more of you
Than you’re capable or able to do
He will bring to mind whatever He needs
Out of the blue He will the plant the seeds
So if you are rushed and have not the time
Remember what God asked thru this rhyme
Obey and trust in God’s infinite love
And you will be blessed from Heaven above

Luke 2:13-20 NKJV
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: [14] “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” [15] So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” [16] And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. [17] Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. [18] And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. [19] But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. [20] Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
Still to this day every year more or less everyone and everything stops for Christmas. Why because all know who Jesus Christ is. On the last day all will bow to Christ the King.
Merry Christmas Dear Leader and thank you for always being The Light.
Went to our church’s family pageant/service this afternoon. After several conversations with friends at other churches over these past few months about diminished attendance since covid changed everyone’s Sunday habits, I was amazed today to find a packed house for the family service. Babies, toddlers, preschoolers, gradeschoolers, high schoolers, all ages of children and their parents. So many children the pageant participation was overflowing with angels and manger animals and speakers. I beheld our church’s next generation.
WE ARE BACK! And we are back with a hearty HALLELUJA! It gave my hope a big boost.
Seems to me the easiest way to drive them all crazy is to overflow our churches on Sundays.
Wonderful!!
For one holy night and the day following let’s leave the empty souls of DC and their globalist masters, the hollow denizens of academia and the media to their ugliness and schemes and sinister machinations. Let us find the peace and happiness in the gift given to us by our heavenly father. Forgiveness, love and everlasting life from the new covenant the birth of that beautiful child born in Bethlehem gave to us.
Let the schemers scheme send the activists agitate for now. Their time is short just like the master they knowingly or unknowingly serve.
The messiah is born, the King of kings.
Let’s enjoy the love of our families and friends and love ones which enrich our lives and exalt in the blessing our heavenly father gave us on that holy night.
Thank you Sundance and my fellow Treepers. This was perhaps my greatest gift this Christmas and a reminder to dwell on the greatest gift, Love.
Just got back from church myself. A wonderful Christmas Eve service, with a modestly talented choir and a couple hundred fellow believers, celebrating the greatest gift mankind has ever received:
The Birth of the Son of God, among the likes of us, specifically for the likes of us! Amazing!
“…specifically for the likes of us!” Brother, ain’t that the truth. The love and sacrifice of Christ-man Jesus amazes me all day every day. HE DID IT! No matter how bad it seems to get, it’s always gettin’ better. I’m looking forward from here, along with a whole lot of other people who are looking forward to seeing one another in new Jerusalem. The days we live in now, right now, are the days that Moses and the prophets longed to see. These great and terrible days mean Satan’s time is short & running out. Keep on rockin’ y’all. Merry, Merry Christmas to all!
Merry Christmas. Sleep peacefully knowing God loves us.
Thank you Sundance for this moving post. Have a blessed Christmas- you and your family. And also to all ad rems & Menagerie & all Treepers here. May God bless all of us.
May the anticipation of childhood for Christmas morning continue to live in your mind and heart as we head toward a new year. Hope, love, joy, and peace to all who read here.
To you, also, Belle!
Merry Christmas 🙂
Like a child. Yes to that Belle.
“And the greatest of these is love.” Yes, dear Lord.
“God bless us, everyone!” Tiny Tim
Merry Christmas to all!
Merry Christmas, Sundance, to you and Family…and may God Bless you all!
Merry Christmas to you and your family SD.
“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me”
🎄🎉Merry Christmas🎉🎄
Everyone
So beautiful with the Christmas scene. Thank you for posting! Merry Christmas!!
Most welcome, Deborah!
Merry Christmas to you, as well.
Oh, to have been one of those lucky few…
Our Plano gals, TX, stay with us here in OKC. Oh! To hear them regale! Yak yak yak, blah blah blah, their broken record is music to my ears.
Joy To the World!
Wouldn’t miss it for a minute!
P.S. – gets better every year (wink wink)
We have all felt that foreboding cloud that hangs over the world. It is an approach of evil from every quarter. They mean it for evil but Scripture says
In Romans 8:28
“And we know that “ALL”things God works for the
good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be Conformed to the likeness
Of his Son.
All these threats and dangers are separating us from the superficial. Driving us to the One who truly is “the last refuge”.
Isolation from others wears us down, the goal being the destruction of those humans who are made in God’s image.
But the fruit of the Spirit is
Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Gentleness
Faithfulness
and Self Control
Against such there is no law
Galatians 22
Being present is so much better than a bunch of boxes under the tree.
In fact this year I didn’t do the tree–I practiced more of being present where needed in the community.
Did put up my wreath!
Been on a Bible app plan called “Christmas: God WIth Us’ I listen to it while on the treadmill. Even though each section is longer then I thought and I’m not as far along as I’d hoped I will continue until done.
Merry CHRISTmas Sundance & Treeper Family…
Merry Christmas to all,..and to all a good night!
Thanks Sundance. A much needed message this year.
God bless you, Sundance and all of the treehouse members that I love.
Sundance, you spoke well and I will join you in rejoicing in Christ birth. Tonight I will be singing with the choir at my traditional Catholic service. I put my trust in Christ, and he is my rock.
I agree that better times are coming because our God loves us and he will guide us out of this insanity created by Satan and his minions.
Merry Christmas Sundance!
I’m grateful for all you do.
God bless you and all the Treepers in this wonderful community.
God bless you and your family, Sundance.
Merry Christmas to all, Love from God to all.
Blessed is the arrival of Jesus Christ; and Blessed be all of you. May all those who follow Him feel HIs presence unceasingly.
Merry Christmas all.
Adam’s likeness, Lord, efface,
Stamp Thine image in its place:
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in Thy love.
Let us Thee, though lost, regain,
Thee, the Life, the inner man:
Oh, to all Thyself impart,
Formed in each believing heart:
Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Merry Christmas, everyone!
Your words Sundance, have left a Blessing on those who read them. Yes, what we say is formed in others. Thoughts and messages written, spoken or sung have the power to bless. John Wesley founded the Methodists; so named because he had a method to accomplish God’s instructions in the illiterate. Wesley wrote the words in hymns down on paper and as the choir sang them the illiterate common folk in England, in the early 1700’s, would sing along, easily memorizing the songs to the music as they looked at words. Wesley was teaching them to read and so learn about God. And so they carried the words about Jesus into the towns and were Blessed by God by the knowledge of His Son.
I suspect most who visit this site have come to learn. When we pause to process what we learn we pray with understanding. Perhaps we refocus from self to nation to world as we recognize the grave dangers appearing, perhaps the discussions here prompt better questions. So, thank you Sundance for leaving Blessing’s for many.
Since 2020 most repeated their shock and anger and puzzlement. I repeatedly asked friends, “What’s the Plan?” No one had one. Meanwhile Opposition to the Constitution and the form of Government America has lived under had a plan and methodically dismantled the nation to re-form a new nation a Republic would need to vote for. The new nation was put in place without a vote. We gasped and complained. The time to wait and see is past. What we have learned may soon be squandered if it will not be translated into a rescue. We have been Blessed with Understanding and wisdom. God says,”If anyone lacks wisdom and understanding, ask Me and I will give it to them.” That’s the gift I’d ask for this Christmas.
Thank you Sundance and all in our Treehouse, which feels like a manger to me these daze.
And Sundance might well be one of the “Three Wise Men, ” to me . For myself, I have my own personal perspective on who at least one of the other two are.
Strangely, this time of year has been a mournful time for me for forty years. I’m still here, and stronger than even I can believe to have survived and become so much stronger because of it.
Grieving, yet being so thankful for all I have been given has been a strange admixture. But I have always had a great inner knowing that the “Universe is Unfolding As It Should and will.
May whatever you believe in as the Higher Power in your life, give you strength, courage, and your own sense you play a part in the destiny of our Great Blue Marble and beyond it.
You always seem to speak to me when I need it most. What a beautiful essay.
Merry Christmas Sundance and Admins, and all the lovely Treepers I’ve seen from my branch these last 11 years. May God bless and keep you always.
“Everything created around us, by government, is weird. Everything created around us is less comfortable, everything created around us is intended to project less joy – and as a consequence, it requires an intensity of thought just to carry on ordinary events.”
Not just by government – this is permeating everything, which implies something much greater and more insidious at work.
Could it be that God is moving His hand against this nation now, or perhaps giving the evil one permission to become more active, because the US became too corrupted and sinful for far too long?
Weird, uncomfortable? How about the cold harsh LED lighting of the Christmas decorations Americans buy from China? The same cold harsh lighting tech spreading everywhere now, including motor vehicle headlights that are incredibly hostile to eyes, harshly blinding – forcing us to look away from oncoming vehicles at night? At night on public roadways, it feels like we are now serfs forced to look down when the prince of darkness passes by, and even Christmas lights are harsh and unpleasant to look at. Our visual perception of our world is becoming a cold and harsh and hostile experience, because of LED lighting. What’s going on here?
Weird, less joy? How about the bland robotic ersatz “pop music” permeating media and public spaces, created by software without any need for musical talent, devoid of meaning and soul and musicality, numbing the musical senses of the masses, and depriving them of the potential for the God-given joy of true music to lift them up from the daily travails of life? Talk about “weird”, and insidious.
And many other examples of “weird” making life colder, harsher, and more hostile, more disconnected from others and more separated from God and His gifts. Yes, it is having a profound negative effect, whether folks realize it or not.
This is Christmas 2023, as we pause to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ and the promise of His return, and to pray. (Trying to avoid looking directly at the cold harsh LED Christmas lights, with the low-refresh-rate LEDs jangling our optic nerve, harshly subverting the warmth of Christmas.)
You are right,LED is almost
Non light no matter how intense.
I just discovered “Reawaken Hymns”
Very easy to listen to.
All The old familiar lyrics have me me a non singer belting them out In my kitchen.
Enjoy
It doesn’t get any better than this.
God bless you and keep you, may he make his face shine on you and be gracious to you, may he turn his head toward you and give you peace. Peace to all in this time of great joy. Merry Christmas everyone……….in Christ, bonny
God bless you and keep you, may he make his face shine on you and be gracious to you, may he turn his head towards you and give you peace. Love to all this wonderful holiday season. And thank you all for being my friends.
Sundance,
I’d like to shake your hand sir.
Look you in the eye and say I’m glad we share the same foxhole.
A timely and poignant reminder.
Merry Christmas- monti
Is it just me? Yes, I feel the world-wide dread of something coming. And I feel somewhere down deep that this moment we are in is the “let them eat cake” moment.
So, eat cake I shall. And I will eat that cake surrounded by the people I love most in this world. And we will have joy along with that cake! Our family gatherings have resumed with much joy post the covid hysteria. These gatherings are even growing and expanding.
Out on the streets here in SC, I am meeting more folks willing to look me in the eye, and smile real smiles!
The foreboding is real, but the choice to give in to despair is still a choice.
Choose JOY!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all!
