Apparently 105 Republican members of Congress have decided that “due process” is no longer needed for anyone who stands accused. Regardless of how you feel about New York Representative George Santos, the expulsion from Congress, without any judicial or court hearing, is a remarkable development.
The final vote was 311 for, with 114 against expulsion. Reps. Jonathan Jackson (D-Ill.) and Al Green (D-Texas) voted “present,” and Reps. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) and Nikema Williams (D-Ga.) voted against the measure.
Santos becomes the first Republican ever expelled from Congress and only the sixth member in history to suffer such a fate.
A special election will be held in New York CD-03 to replace him. The Republican House majority now sinks to four seats if all members are present.
Democrats rally around their accused with political ferocity. However, the jellyfish Republicans can never elevate to see the bigger picture. The big winner in this outcome are House Democrats who can now strategically use the small majority to defeat Republican legislation.
WASHINGTON DC – Top GOP lawmakers have a new problem on their hands: Rank and file Republicans frustrated with their leaders’ late-game opposition to expelling George Santos.
The New York Republican’s intra-party critics finally succeeded Friday in their push to expel their indicted colleague. They prevailed despite the opposition of all four top House Republican leaders, who lined up in the 24 hours before his ejection to say they would support keeping Santos in office.
Republican leaders also didn’t whip votes against Santos, arguing that his expulsion was a vote of conscience. In the end, their members split almost evenly — 105 voted to bounce him and 112 voted not to. But some who voted to expel took issue with their leaders’ decision to come out as opponents of expulsion at the last minute, warning that it risked looking like an attempt to tip the scales for Santos.
Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) said he was “very disappointed” with how GOP leaders handled the vote.
“Too many people, including leadership, were using excuses that simply cannot be successfully argued with everyday Americans,” Womack said in an interview. “Had leadership had its way, we would have reset the bar on standards of conduct at a level that we would live to regret.”
Womack, a respected senior appropriator, added that “I am thankful that there were enough thoughtful members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, that recognize that there was only one course of action here.” (read more)
The Republican wing of the Uniparty are experts at losing while proclaiming they held on to their principles.
Santos deserved due process. However, if you look at the litany of Republicans who voted against him, you will discover the same aligned names were with the Nancy Pelosi impeachment effort against Donald Trump.
I’m to the point where I’m almost embarrassed to be a republican.
Free oneself by becoming unenrolled. Republicans hate you.
The problem is closed primary elections in states like Florida. You must be a registered Republican in order to vote in the primary. And that’s the only election that matters which is why it’s so hard to rid the govt of RINOs. Most voters ignore the primaries.
likely a good thing…
In Alabama, and I would bet other states, the primary is open IF YOU SHOW UP AND VOTE IN PERSON.
You cannot vote absentee without registering as one or the other.
But Anyone can show up,. sign a meaningless, unenforced pledge to vote for the party, and vote in the primary.
The Democrats have done this to the Republicans in Alabama for years, trying to put the weakest candidates on the ballot ( Like Judge Roy Moore.).
I like Jerry Carl, he’s less scummy than most I think. But who can really know.
Yep.
You should be embarrassed to be a republican and the rest of us as well. It’s time for THE PEOPLE to wake up and quit pretending and open our eyes to the REAL WORLD that’s staring us in the face.
Comer voted for it. What a pompous dick he is.
i am disgusted
The proper response is that you are outrage that they masquerade as elected officials. The implication of your statement is that they share your principles and the logical, agreed outcomes of these principles is this embarrassing outcome. This is far from the truth. Actually, this is the narrative used to disheartened you. They do not hold your principles. They are beholden to radically special interests that have nothing to do We the People.
There is nothing to be embarrassed about. There is plenty to be absolutely outraged about.
Fetterman/Santos/2024
Meanwhile, the Lolita Xpress folks win, yet again!
“The big winner in this outcome are House Democrats who can now strategically use the small majority to defeat Republican legislation.” And within this sentence is the reason they expelled Santos. Think of him what you will, Santos had a very strong conservative voting record, and then the obvious benefit of not playing the Deep State game. Don’t forget, January and February are looming large with new spending bills. With an even smaller majority now, the GOPe has another built in excuse for not cutting spending – or at the least freezing it. The late attempt by “leadership” to whip votes against expelling Santos is one of two things: 1) A new speaker caught off guard, and not accustomed to pulling the levers of power, or 2) A strategy designed to fool the GOPe base and set up an excuse for why they can’t get things done. Or a combination of both.
These people – if they even care enough – hate you. Otherwise, they just hold you in contempt.
These virtue-signaling RINO frauds didn’t question the BS law school credentials of Barack Hussein Obama. The Kenyan had to falsify a birth certificate and scrub all college records. But RINOs like John Rutherford of Florida had no issue with that smoking gun. The vast majority of gop politicians are simply whores. Ugly word, but it’s the truth.
Unattractive whores at that,, who can’t litigate their way out of a wet paper bag.
Proof of birth is sitting in plain sight. Kenya birth and death records 1961, August 4th. Submitted to the crown as required for a country that is part of the British Empire.
Multiple copied reside in offices and universities. MI6 and the three letters, didn’t and can’t remember them all. 😉
This. I commented the same. This was a planned removal to diminish the MAGA vote.
Hope the good people of NY CD-03 have the good sense to vote him back in; tell the congress ‘they’ elected him and they have the power to oust or reelect! Giving ALL the states a say and not the accused a defense is heinous law.
The People have the power in a Republic. period.
Now We need legal voting to take up our position of governance; this action was against US the voters not Santos; heck they think they can do things against the law with impunity.
So now the House thinks it can take our vote after it is cast , just like this!
God Help US
Total government is becoming a reality……….when illegal voting has such a firm holt both in and out of Our hands.
The Rs ousted a representative with a very good conservative voting record; they have H e ll to pay IMHO
My comments to Womack:
Dear Congressman , as a resident in Washington County Arkansas I have heard reports that you jay walked. I do not have the evidence but I do believe the accusations therefore I think you need to be expelled….
Accusations are the same as?
Sad.
Are you gonna go to New York and campaign for the Republican replacement for Mr. Santos? How about impeaching a few of the destroyers of our country and Hunter Biden?
Thank you for continuing to show us that you are truly from the world of Hill and Billary Clinton.
Senator Menendez continues to serve but apparently the cash from his suit pockets was falling out around the congressional halls so he’s going to remain until the bitter end..
I recognize that I am just one voice among your 750,000 constituents so my voice does not matter but that’s all right you’ve heard.
Timothy R Smith
Can anyone explain why Speaker Johnson allowed this vote????
BINGO!!!
I look at this as an opportunity to send a clear and loud message to the unipartypoopers. If there is a large enough MAGA presence in NY CD-03, then return Santos to office immediately. I see nothing in the rules to preclude that other than that he can’t be reappointed. The message: MAGA is not going away; you are!
This was always the voters’ decision to make and should have been left to them. STUPID Republicans. Get busy NY CD-03!
Sincere question here:
If a representative is duly elected by constituents in a district, how can the fellow club members boot him out? By what legal right?
It’s a Constitutionally delegated power.
Article I Section 5 clause 2
Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.
Thank you.
You are most welcome.
RINOS to the left, RINOS to the right and he’s the only bait in town. Meanwhile Menendez from NJ will continue to do what he does for another term or two or three as Republicans do not have the balls to force him out.
Failure by design
All the masks are off now. Thus shitpile communist gov is heading for collapse anyway, they know it, hence their continued looting of the treasury. Maybe they are too stupid to see what’s coming.
This is how the republicans just advertised to anyone who wishes to become part of the big club.
If you get out of line we will expel you.
We are not going to vote for the people we want.
They are pushing us into a corner with very limited options now.
Lucy (Democrats) set up Charlie Brown (Republicans) by holding the football out with the guise of intolerance for lying to the voters. When the vote came, Lucy pulled the football away, and poor Charlie hit the ground, on his back again, only this time Charlie expelled one of their own reducing their numbers. What fools!
It would be hard to find anyone of them who did not stretch the truth when campaigning back home, and this is by no means an excuse for lying, but these poltroons didn’t elect George Santos! The people of New York did, and it is in New York where he should have faced either a recall, or not being reelected to a second term.
These holier than though Republicans, if really concerned about ethics should demonstrate their claims with investigations into who uses the slush fund to payoff sexual harassment charges, and release their names. There are some that should be expelled as they often prey on young staffers.
And, if they’re looking for a lack of ethics to condemn and ouster fellow Congressmen, they have a pig stye on the other side of the isle that abuses power every day. Adam Schiff, serially lying to the people concerning the evidence against President Trump when it was the opposite of what he was just told behind closed doors. It’s a long list.
I have been embarrassed to be a Republican for a long time! Where’s the current equivalent of the Tea Party?! MAGA is great, but we are a movement of the people with a single leader, but with no long term strategy, and oft times flawed tactics. The only reason for having an “R” by my name is to vote in the primaries…
Congress just overturned the results of the 2022 election, and no one is being prosecuted???
I am shocked my Representative didn’t vote Yea! Whitman from Virginia.
This shows how much RNC has control.
Those Republicans know exactly what they are doing. They WANT TO LOSE power in the house. They aren’t being stupid as many want to say, they are playing the role they are expected and trained to play. It’s us voters that are stupid if we/you don’t see through this whole charade. WE CANNOT VOTE OUR WAY OUT OF THIS MESS OR THE ENORMOUS DEBT THAT HAS BEEN LAID ON OUR BACKS!!!
The “professional career politicians” that self-affiliate with the “republican” branch of the Anti-American Party have been playing this role for well over 100 years. The “republican” actors get paid to pretend to be the opposition to the “evil democrat left”. A while allowing their “opposition” to advance down the field. Oh they didn’t let them gain 100 yards at a time or even 50 yards. Occasionally they even forced their “opponents” to turn over the ball for 3 plays. But the bottom line is that over an extended period of time the “republican” branch has allowed their “opponents” to advance down the field feet and inches at a time. While doing this the “republicans” have gotten their fans to cheer and praise them for their “stern defense” while actually throwing the game.
What have been witnessing over the more recent time frame is that the Globalist Anti-American Party has finally advanced the ball inside the 10 yard line. They can literally “smell the goal line” and believe that they are unstoppable even if the “other side” knows exactly what play they are going to use. So in recent times all attempts at concealment have been set aside and are not willing to take the last yards 1 inch or even 1 foot at time. They are going for broke and trying to put the ball in end zone in a single play using any means and method. They own the referees so they do not even have to worry about a flag being thrown.
The best comparison I have found for the “republican branch” is the Washington ‘Generals’ that play in “opposition” to the Harlem ‘Globetrotters’. The ‘Generals’ get paid very well to pretend to be opposing the ‘Globetrotters’ while the fans pay outrages ticket prices to watch the entertainment of the fake game and willing pay the owner of the arena $50 bucks for a beer, hotdog, and popcorn.
Looks like the Repug Party does not like having to be the Majority Party. Probably because they have memberships in their Country Clubs. Just a guess. I have no statistics to support my view of things. 🙂
I see James Comer’s name on the list. Does anyone else see a contradiction between his commitment to due process with respect to pursuing the impeachment inquiry re: Joe Biden, but not so much in the case of George Santos?
My freaking uniparty witch Ann Wagner voted to expel! She needs primaried. She votes for Ukraine funding, CRs and every other crap uniparty legislation there is. This is a deep red district in St. Louis County. I HATE HER!!!!
All of these instances are a process of separating the wheat from the chaff. It is a clarifying moment. Act upon it in every election opportunity you can.
George Santos
@MrSantosNY
Monday I will be filling an official complaint with the Office of congressional Ethics against @NMalliotakis regarding her questionable stock trading since joining the Ways and Means committee this Congress.
Cont….
So Schiff, AOC, and others are next, right House of Reps? No, oh, this was a planned Uniparty tactic to remove a MAGA vote.
If there was ever a moment to expose that there is a Uniparty, this is it. The Uniparty has a massive majority, but so did the British army against the the Colonists.
Another example why DJT must prevail in 2024.
The “Republicans” are so stupid. If Santos were a Democrat, the Dems would have tenaciously defended him, and denied everything, until perpetuity. Instead of folding and “doing the right thing”, Dems would have appointed him to chairmanships to the most powerful committees. They’d really have rubbed Republicans nose in the poop and not given up one seat of their majority. Until Republicans start learning ballots and election engineering, start playing hardball and narrative engineering with the Dems on the same level, and quit being spineless, they’re going to induce a communist takeover.
It also wouldn’t hurt if Republican DA’s and AG’s in deep red areas would start hauling in prominent lefties and Dems in front of frothing red grand juries, and give them a taste of what Trump has been persecuted with.
We are past “taking the high road” and “not sinking to the same level”. We have to fight fire with fire now, or be hunted to extinction. These Dems aren’t playing around.
He looks like he’s thinking about Trump.
Let me tell a parable. Say you travelled to a little known primitive country, and after arriving, you learned the country has been in a long civil war. The sides are about evenly split between group A, and group B. One day you see a report of a recent skirmish on tv at the hotel bar. You ask the bartender which side won, and to your surprise he states that what you saw was infighting between group A members….happens a lot he says. What about group B, you ask, to which he says “never”. Then he quizzes you on which side is winning the war? You wonder if it’s a trick question, but you answer B. You are right, of course.
Now, here is why I tell this story. I have been voting against Democrats since Reagan (my first election) because they exhibit authoritarian and communist tendencies. I voted for Trump twice in the general election and will vote for who I damn well please in the primary, and presumably Trump in the general election. I am used to being attacked, maligned, etc… by Democrats, but now it’s by Don Jr., and other Trump supporters. Many Trump supporters voted for Democrats in the past including Obama, or they didn’t vote at all. If you voted for Obama even once, you should be required to disclose that to me before giving me political advice! We are group A now, and Trump has been a good president, who has a bunch of nasty jerks as supporters who love calling OTHER REPUBLICAN VOTERS: Rhinos, Cuckservatives, Uniparty, Shills, etc…
All it does is piss us off. It’s simple. VOTE AGAINST DEMOCRATS…unless you want to live under a communist regime.
By the way, I have endured over 6 years of verbal attacks from our own side before resorting to returning fire with the “nasty jerk” comment.
And your RINO buddies aren’t jerks? Have you paid attention to what kind of verbal abuse we MAGA folks have to put up with from them? All your NeverTrumper brethren aren’t the jerks, too? Same thing with them. The Cruz backers? Talk about being attacked and maligned, try being MAGA.
Whatever Don Jr said, I support it. He knows what the facts are. It’s crystal clear who is, and who ain’t in this fight now. Trump has pressure cleaned the “Republican” apparatus and now the cracks and rusty, cancerous parts are laid bare.
If you’re advocating for Nikki, Meatball, Chris Chrispy Creme, et al, I just assume when you go in that booth on general election day, you look around, check your six, and pull the Big D lever.
You might notice that I advocated only for the decency within the party to not attack other Republican voters for who they support in the primary. Make the case for your pick of course! Stop attacking the party as a whole or other Republican voters. They will not be persuaded by personal attacks…they recognize that behavior as the behavior of their long-time enemy…the Democrats. With all these former Obama voters in MAGA now, it kinda makes sense why you act that way.
Attack individual candidates for their shortcomings, by all means!
If you think there aren’t Democrat operatives stoking our division, you are very, very naive.
no surprise with the two (2) sellout scum sucking rino deep traitorous dogs from new jersey – tom kean jr and chris smith!!
These 2 scumbags are controlled by the north jersey – Bergen county murderous criminal crime family rino cartel – just like the 2 scum bagged dirty slim ball dem senators!!”happy boy” booker and pedo menendez and his dirty wife who got a pass on a vehicular manslaughter charge!!
All in cohoots with r slimeball dem gov murphy
Of all the people to come out with this I agree with him. He’s suddenly beginning to make sense.
Fetterman: “We have a colleague in the Senate that’s actually done much more sinister kinds of things. He needs to go. If you are going to expel Santos, how can you allow Menendez to remain in the Senate? Menendez is really a Senator for Egypt, not New Jersey.”
What happens if NY pulls a TN and sends him back?
NY-3 should send Santos back to the Hill.

And people want to know why Republicans haven’t done anything about the dangerous lawfare plaguing our nation?
Here they are pissing on the presumption of innocence.
Ever consider 1) they don’t believe in it either and 2) they’re all corrupt and easily blackmailed?

Three of the five prior members of Congress expelled before George Santos took up with the Confederacy!
The other two were convicted of bribery and corruption.
We are an unserious, undeserving generation.
Republicans not named
@EliseStefanik
are cowards and Democrats are hypocrites.
Bob Menendez remains in the U.S. Senate, today.

No Member of Congress has ever been expelled without a conviction; this is a dangerous precedent and I am voting no based upon my concerns regarding due process. I have said from the beginning that this process will play out in the judicial system which it currently is.

Although GS is not my rep, the rhino repubs made a very wrong move to elim a Rep in the House at this crucial time. Why do they make these dumb moves? When will they EVER learn? He should have been allowed to remain in office until he was proven guilty. Why isnt B Menendez out or AOC, RTalib, I Omar or T Bowman, A Shift, E Swowell? They are accused of illegal actions, possible treason and terrorist support. Dems must be laughing all the way.
