Republicans hate their base voters. If the broader Republican electorate knew the internecine nature of how the Republican politicians in DC operate, they would never vote for another Republican ever.
It’s all a system of conniving and positioning for a cushy committee assignment, indulgences from the lobbyist control apparatus, office locations and Machiavellian influence for the best junkets and largest leadership PAC deposits. That’s the truth, the non-pretending truth about the system at work behind the GOPe blind vote. It has nothing to do with principle centered leadership, and everything to do with self-indulgences and person affluence.
Steve Scalise is worse than Kevin McCarthy when it comes to supporting Democrats, way worse. Representative Steve Scalise (U-DC) will use sell your house via civil forfeiture and send that money to Zelenskyy [while deducting his indulgence fees of course].
WASHINGTON – No. 2 House Republican Steve Scalise won the GOP nomination for speaker, paving the way for a floor vote to make the election official.
Republicans held a secret closed-door ballot Wednesday morning after days of drama and infighting. Scalise, who is battling blood cancer, beat out House Judiciary Chairman and Trump ally Jim Jordan in a 113-99 vote.
But it is still a steep path ahead for Scalise to make the promotion official – he must get at least 217 votes on the House floor. It is not clear when a vote will be scheduled, but it could occur as soon as this afternoon. (read more)
Via Politico – […] Some Scalise allies are encouraging the Louisiana Republican to move to a floor vote quickly anyway, hoping to establish momentum after Wednesday’s internal vote. The rising national focus on national security matters such as the Israeli terrorist attack, these allies argue, will help convince GOP lawmakers to coalesce behind Scalise as the winner.
“I believe we’ll have a Speaker Scalise in office by dinnertime tonight,” said Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), an early Scalise backer. “I’m confident we’ll all be on the same page when we get to the floor.” (source)
A pox on all their Houses.

Several repubs have said they just can’t vote for Scalise on the floor. How many more can he lose?
do the math, he needs 218.
Redo your math. He needs 217.
It depends on how many show up or vote.
True-217 if everyone shows up (1 retired) 5 absent/present and Scalise never gets the gavel. A 217 vote for Jordan would have sent a powerful message. Pubs on the same page? Never happened-never will, until all rinos are purged.
Jordan is all talk.
At least he talks truthfully
Disappointing Day-Trump and Gaetz both endorsed Jordan. Yet he only got 99 votes. That says a lot about our Republicans in Congress. Scalise got 113, which is a bridge far away from 217. A motion to require 217 for the nomination was shot down. Hakeem enters the race w/212 rock solid votes. Wish we had their solidarity.
In conference they allowed three members representing American territories to vote. They cannot vote on the floor. Therefore Scalise really only won 107 votes, not even a majority.
Such a loser
Where can we get a list of the Republican vote?
It’s a House Republican Caucus vote, so it will most likely remain secret. Unless someone leaks a private tally list.
It is not an officially recorded vote by the Clerk of the House, or any of the House Committees.
Everyday I love my user name on this website more and more!
“Left the GOP” …and ..meanwhile..
A MASSIVE line of GOP voters
wraps around the venue parking lot
here in West Palm Beach for President Trump .
Those are Trump voters not GOP voters.
Correction: that’s a massive line of MAGA voters. I left the GOP, but not Trump who will get my vote in the General election.
….best GOP President…
It’s the MAGA/Trump party, not the GOP.
Understandable. I can’t stand all but a handful of them, at best. And Scalise is just another I have no use for. But that is the problem, there is no place for conservatives to turn. The two party system only works for the two parties, not for us.
Yup…and the two parties are actually one party!
Or…a UniParty.
Not quite-Magadomino nailed it-If we can only frame it that way-Commies-Dems-MAGA’s. Then the undecideds get a clear choice.
You can still vote in the General election for Trump, but not support the RINO, Trump hating GOP.
Is this even over yet?

🚨Just in: Byron Donalds is running to become Majority Leader of the Republican conference

·
Steve Scalise Conservative Review Liberty Score: 58% or an “F” rating. Kevin McCarthy score: 54% or an “F” rating. Byron Donalds score: 100% or an “A” rating So they’re making progress in House!??
Jordan has a much higher score.
Yes, close to Donalds!
I was hoping Byron would be Speaker but maybe he and others felt he needed to wait his turn as he is still “new”.
Thats a major positive qualification, only better would be not even elected TO the House,…hate to break it to you, but EVERY member of the House was installed, and so is corrupted by their ambition to be career politicians.
Donalds supported the CR in the House. Not a smart move.
The poor guy isn’t healthy enough for the job.
This is a suicide by office deal.
Sorry, Steve, but no.
Not even close.
Next…..
John Boehner, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, Steve Scalise. Uniparty in action. Same old same old. More evidence that our politicians have sold out to the globalist multinational influencers.
I seem to remember years ago that the first time I ever heard of Kevin McCarthy was in conjunction with Paul Ryan and Steve Scalise. I never liked any of them except Ryan. Learned my lesson on that one though.
Scalise got shot and many people, including me, thought maybe he would see how hateful the left is and turn over a new leaf.
I think he always knew how hateful the left is, but money and power, well that’s something that is just too good to turn down.
Nobody from DC….period
I guess i thought Jordan was a shoe in, im kinda having one of those wtf moments? maybe ive watched Jordan to much. And Scalise has Cancer. So what really happened here
Jordan doesn’t really want it. Didn’t want it in January, doesn’t want it now. He’s got too many skeletons in the closet and the higher profile of the Speakership would bring them out
I wondered about that. Jim seems to just like to talk and talk and talk and …
No need to wonder anymore, Gymmi Jordan wouldn’t hold up to the exposure as well as F. Frank Biden the sodomite…
“Jim seems to just like to talk and talk and talk and …”
Well then:
For those who love to talk and talk, this adage doth appeal;
The steam that blows the whistle shall never turn the wheel
Just a guess but I doubt JJ wants the speaker role where he might actually have to stick his neck out and do things versus remaining in the committee roles where, as the toothless pit bull, it keeps him looking tough. Like I said, just a guess. I used to like JJ and I was wrong for doing so.
Me too, Goldie-Jordan w/217 votes -fantasy-99-reality. Bummer.
Actually, I’m surprised it was that close. Considering all the RINOs, Never Trumpers, and GOPe folks in Congress, usually Jordan gets like 40 votes from the solid Freedom Caucus conservatives. Personally, I like Jordan’s stands on the issues, and the fact that he likes President Trump and has been vocal in supporting him. Given that, I’m disappointed they picked swampy Scalise, but maybe it’s a sign of hope that Jordan was that close to winning. Maybe the tide is turning after all.
Also, last time around, Jordan didn’t want the speakership because he felt it was a lot of flying around the country and fundraising, and he wanted to be in DC working on the Judiciary committee and at least shining a light on the Biden corruption and weaponization of govt. (He admitted that with Garland as AG, the DOJ would do nothing to indict any Dems, but at least wanted to get it on the record and out in the open, in case the next election did produce a Trump-chosen AG that would do something.)
My theory is that Jordan put his hat in the ring a) because enough people encouraged him to, including PDJT, and b) to try and provide some good conservative leadership that could steer the House in a better direction, and even be a Speaker that PDJT could work with. As long as we have such a slim majority of MAGA folks in the House and a crazy big chunk of liberals and establishment folks bought by special interests, anyone trying to steer the House in a MAGA direction would have their hands full. But I would have liked to have seen Jordan give it a try.
“…largest leadership PAC deposits. ”
Bribes.
“It has nothing to do with principle centered leadership, and everything to do with self-indulgences and person affluence.”
Some suggest:
This, and decades of overall competency degradation wrought by “affirmative action” (renamed to DEI), is what brought America down.
How exactly the runaway national debt train stops is not clear, but one thing is certain: It cannot continue much longer, it is accelerating.
At the moment, it appears that things will be “reset” by war, and the US is weakened now – this points to an ignominious end. (Maybe this is part of what underlies the shaming/shameful social trends and current “president” – to make everyone ashamed and distressed, in preparation for that. Sure looks like psyops.)
I’m pretty mad about this.
We’ve got an actual invasion going on, I’m up here within hours of NYC and close to Boston and we’re waiting for some sort of a terrorist attack again.
These ‘effin invaders are coming in from the northern states too up here.
The NYC Mayor has issued a warning that we all are paying attention too.
I have spent my entire life voting for Republicans with the hope of stopping what we are now looking at.
We’re at war, we’re under attack.
We’re at war here and this world is at war.
This is not the Speaker I want to go to war with.
These people running this government don’t care if we all die brutal deaths- this is abundantly clear.
And they wonder why we all so fiercely cling to Donald Trump- at least the man doesn’t hate us all.
You are wrong about one thing-
they DO care if we die brutal deaths.
Nothing would please their master, Satan, more.
I understand your fear, and that of many other people, that another mass casualty terrorist attack is increasingly likely to happen. Unfortunately, now would be a good time for the evildoers to strike in order to heighten the chaos created by the Hamas invasion of Israel.
Speaker of the House? House of what?
We don’t have a representative government. Haven’t for a long time. So, forgive me, but who cares?
It is irrelevant which of the uniparty grifters occupies
that special little office with the view of the National Mall.
When all 535 leave and we can start fresh, maybe then I will care again.
House of Political Whores
aka
House of the Rising $um
I like that: Speaker of the Whorehouse.
Speaker of the Shithouse, unfortunately.
I wish what you said wasn’t true. However, it is. Therefore, I can’t exert the energy to care.
We are swapping one Boehner, for one Ryan, for one McCarthy — and now for a Scalise or a Jordan.
To quote Beautiful Hillary, “What difference does it make?”
They are all corrupt, compromised, or afraid.
We are screwed.
Air castle… Speaking of starting fresh…
Make a House of Reps for citizens and require they fundraise like Gaetz claims. People only, no corporate, etc.
All bills are reviewed by type, sworn affadavit to have been read, then filtered through the constitution / bill of rights before being allowed to be voted on.
Then have a House of Corporations. They can only pass bills that are funded by corporate taxes, not individual taxes and pertain to their stuff. Any bill generated from this toilet bowl can be vetoed by the people’s house for resons violating the constitution and bill of rights, etc.
Brainstorming only. I don’t know how the heck it would happen.
Not much difference between Scalise and Kevin McCarthy.
Precisely the reason they’re trying to install him.
Scalise has blood cancer, Mrs. Kevy McLuntz is an HIV candidate, there’s a difference…
Those in the House and elsewhere that think Scalise deserves to be Speaker because he was shot, and because he has cancer, are unqualified to vote and to support. How ignorant and vapid are these people?!
What has happened to wise and principled politicians?
If there are any why are their voices not being heard?
we have about 20……the buck stops with us.
I’d say 99. Only, 2 choices-Jordan would be the better.
“Republicans held a secret closed-door ballot Wednesday morning after days of drama and infighting”
That tells you everything you need to know. It’s not what the people want, it’s what they want!
The GOP is lost. SB today on a rant saying southern Republican are really Dems. (I can buy that as the Dems are communists.) Where I live GOPe firmly in the driver’s seat. Not sure if there is sufficient MAGA with resources to make a play here. I’m in the heart of Youngkin country.
Well I can tell you first hand: The RINOs up here in this part of the country are definitely Democrats.
The ones that claim to be Republicans are nice people that don’t get dirty or talk too loud because it’s unbecoming they say.
So yeah.. what does that leave us with?
We got nuts or nutless to choose from.
Nuts or nutless is accurate.
Sure seems like a lot of southern Republicans favor letting the Dems do whatever they want. I don’t know if that makes them communists (fascists more accurately describes the Dems) but most of them sure aren’t helping.
Can assure you the problem doesn’t lie with Southerners…..The ones to worry about MI, WI, AZ, GA,NA, PA. GA is the only captured southern state. Voters in those state must get rid of mail ballots and be up their election board and secretary of state rear end during election season. Clean voter rolls.
They’re getting closer to turning Texas purple also.
The landscape has changed in the South. We have been invaded by Yankees who are trying to escape totalitarianism. They Yankee refugees are good neighbors, but they still bring bad habits to civilization. They want to embed themselves in the HOAs, school boards, or other organizations where they can make and impose rules. Eventually they blend in and drop their bad habits.
They invariably come down south thinking we are stupid hicks and try to take over everything. I’ve even had them mock my southern accent. That did not go well. Bless their heart.
In SC we still have ignorant RINOs, mainly females “who don’t like the way Trump talks.” Nothing can help them overcome their ignorance. We have Ms. Lindsey, but you can’t get anyone to admit that they actually voted for him. And then we have Presidential candidates; a tantrum throwing warmonger and a Sunday school teacher. What a screwed up and embarrassing mess.
If we can only frame it that way-Commies-Dems-MAGA’s. Then the undecideds get a clear choice.
Scalise is Old South GOP. Not good.
LA is as corrupt as you get.
As Dan Bongino said, most House members look to the Speaker as the guy who can deliver the money come campaign time.
That is what they care about: as many are in slim majority R districts or districts that may be trending toward the other party, their lust for money grows and grows.
Kevin McCarthy delivered the money to many of these members. Remember, they start begging for money the day after they are elected. Two years fly by.
Jordon is busy on committees. They may have figured Scalise can devote more time to the lobbyists on their behalf.
It may be relevant to note that….
In Jul ’21 Scalise admitted that he took his 1st dose of the ‘safe & effective’ Pfizer Vaccine
In Aug ’21 Scalise admitted that the took a 2nd dose of the ‘safe & effective’ Pfizer vaccine
In Oct ’22 Scalise admitted he developed a kidney stone
In Aug ’23 Scalise admitted he now has blood cancer (multiple myeloma)
….Just saying
That right there is proof that they are deaf when it comes to the outside world. How could he not know about the vaccine…..doctors advice?
Guess he didn’t get the fake vax.
Couple that with getting shot, it seems like someone is trying to ensure his demise.
“A pox on all their houses.”
And their little dog, too.
Oh, leave the dog alone,…
Is that his wife behind him in the photo?
Whoever she is, she does not look at all enthusiastic.
.
I could’ve sworn that was Elise Stefanik with her hair pulled up . . .
It is.
Just gonna throw this out there…On August 28, 2023, Scalise told Punchbowl Magazine that he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I had a parent who had multiple myeloma. Scalise told the interviewer that multiple myeloma is a very treatable blood cancer.
It may be treatable, but there is no cure, it is debilitating and it is vicious.
Perhaps, the GOP gave the seat to Scalise to reward him for his time in Congress but mostly to buy time to build the next Speaker’s power base… I will be surprised if Scalise makes it much past the next election.
Interesting point. It seems like this happened really fast, they were saying it would be Jordan over the weekend.
That was my thought; as a reward he can rest in peace with having that title for the history books while the GOPe gets down to their real work of making sure no more of his kind (MAGA) can gain a majority in the House come 2024.
That was my thought, a sort of parting gift.
Increase in survivor benefits for the family.
As long as the House rules agreed upon to drag McCarthy over the finish line are still in effect then so be it.
Who…is there that isn’t a swamp rat establishment pile of excrement….or has yet to be comprimised, bribed, or have dirt in their history that can be used against them. Very few if any. Those few, can’t get the votes, because the votes come from the same people that are comprimised, have dirt in their history, or can be bribed or blackmailed. Well, I guess it’s Scalise’s turn to be exposed and ousted….just hope it doesn’t cost billions or lives!
McCarthy bad
Jordan bad
Scalise bad
Who else is left?
Who do you think is good?
Anyone of the eight but that will never happen …..
Gaetz said he didn’t care which one got the speakership. He also said there are millions$$ worth of IOU’s on K street that are worthless because McCarthy is gone. The next speaker is not liable for them.
And how, exactly, does that fix the border?
Wasn’t ever going to put someone in to fix the border; this whole maneuver, removing McCarthy, reeks of kabuki. Gave MAGA voters a bone to gnaw on hoping we’d go away.
just my opinion.
That’s cute…you think this congress will fix the border. 🤣
Whatever goodwill there is for Steve Scalise, it will sour very quickly if conservatives get the soft shoe shuffle. He will not have a 9 month ‘probationary’ period like McCarthy did where he just hid and avoided doing what he promised. It is well known what conservative are demanding and what needs to be done including election fraud, impeachment, the budget, and Ukraine. There is no fooling them or dilatory moves that will help. And he needs to get behind Trump post haste.
“…..it will sour very quickly
ifwhen…”“And he needs to get behind Trump post haste.”
He will never get behind President Trump, and if he does, check his hands for daggers or garrottes.
So the entirety of the American government is gone. There is no representation, not even the pretending matters.
So what happens when the imported animals begin to destroy and kill in the cities? Capitulation? Or more gains for their continued looking the other way. I have lost every gram of trust in these people.
Once you see the pattern of corruption, you can’t unsee it. I live in a state that resembles a bruise.
Red on the outside, blue on the inside. 🤷♀️
Very loud calls for “marshal law” from everywhere. Biden, both Houses of Congress, the military complex, etc. We are screwed!
I just wrote my congressman (Bob Good) and asked him to support a Byron Donalds run for speaker.
11 repubs will either vote against or aren’t sure about Scalise…
If they’re going to do this again – Please, have someone who will step up and do the job and also get enough votes to actually become speaker. If not, just more bones for MAGA to gnaw on while who the heck knows what’s going on in the WH and Senate while the House is out of session?
FILTHY Steve Scalise is just like every other FILTHY Congress Tapeworm.
UNIPARTY Scum.
Don’t be like the Sitting Ducks in Israel, lock and load.
Maybe FILTHY LIBERALS will understand why we need AR15’s now. (Not)
They help with the “Proportionate” response to the Gang Rapes and Jihad.
I attended a small lunch to support my local congressman from nc.scalise was supposed to be the draw.unfortunately, our guy didnt make it so we just had scalise.
i asked him a softball question on china.totally whiffed it.most unimpressive man i have met.what a mess.
Donna Brazile was his date for Biden’s inauguration.
Who was a viable alternative? Who else would have garnered the necessary votes that wasn’t GOPe?
McCarthy Lite.
Same ole –same ole.☹️
I’m not exactly sure what Joey means here.
———————————–
In the past week, Fox talking heads, especially Hannity and Kudlow, lobbied heavily for returning McCarthy to the Speaker’s position. I think a memo from management directed the underlings to shill for McCarthy.
Screw these people. Who would want to associate with such filth?
Start the American Party with those 99 who voted for Jordan. The GOP is defunct.
Par for the course. They are leaving open the only option left to the American people. They will all have to be tried and hanged for treason.
Remembering a state of the union, when Trump gave praise to Scalise —granted it was after he just survived the Bernie Bros shooting at the ball field— introducing him as the legend from Louisiana. Proof it Scalise.
113-99 in favor of Scalise. Trump supporting Jim Jordan says it all.
This dude takes a bullet to the pancreas and keeps towing the company line. Talk about pathetic. He alone shows you how effing greedy these people are.
Well, let’s take a closer look at Scalise. In 2022, he had a freedom index voting record of 73%. In 2023, he has a freedom index of 67%. McCarthy’s 2023 voting record was 50%. that means these two congressmen only vote with the Constitution 67% of the time for Scalise and 50% of the time for McCarthy. Quite obviously, neither of them are who we would choose.
I’m not a fan of Jim Jordan, and having lived in Ohio for 12 years, I still have friends there who have told me that Jordan did nothing for E. Palestine, that the only person who has helped them is Sen. Vance. No one else has lifted a finger or their voices.
In 2022, Jordan voted with the Constitution 97% of the time. That’s a good score. In 2023, his neo-con stripes were showing and he only voted with the Constitution 80% of the time.
Take a look at Congressman Andy Biggs of Arizona. He consistently votes 100% with the Constitution year after year. Andy is one Congressman who actually knows the Constitution well. So does Matt Rosendale, and most of the time Thomas Massie, although he voted NOT to censor Schiff’s lies about Russia, which dropped his consistent 100% to 97%.
Neither Scalise nor Jordan were good choices. Sundance is right. The House, and the Senate, ignore their core base.
“Secret vote”; says it all. Being played once again.
Interesting development being reported by Breitbart which says the 113 to 99 reported vote count is incorrect:
“Scalise’s total was inflated by non-voting delegates who are not permitted to vote on the House floor. He received only 110 of 221 eligible Republican votes, less than half. Scalise now somehow must gain the support of an overwhelming number of those who did not back him, but the number who have already come out against him is more than enough to sink his nomination.“
.
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/10/11/steve-scalise-has-serious-problems-getting-votes-to-win-speakership/
Anyone know what non-voting delegates are?
Excerpt:
The House of Representatives is made up of 435 elected members, divided among the 50 states in proportion to their total population. In addition, there are 6 non-voting members, representing the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and four other territories of the United States: American Samoa, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. The presiding officer of the chamber is the Speaker of the House, elected by the Representatives.

U.S. Territories?
From the above article…
“Well over twenty House Republicans from across the ideological spectrum are against Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and will not vote for him on the floor, a source with knowledge told Breitbart News.”
Interesting. Twenty is twice the number that is being whispered.
Not surprising.
However the vote goes, I hope Gaetz can still wring the same conditions from Scalise that he did from McCarthy for removal in the event of excessive RINOing. And then perform the same removal.
Right now the GOP house in consistent disarray is better for the Republic than a nice fat satisfied Uniparty again.
I’ve said elsewhere that the motion to vacate ploy was a onetime deal. There’s no way Gaetz could get 7 Republicans to oust Jordan or Scalise, or that Gaetz could make a credible case in the media to vacate the second speaker in American history.
That means we’re stuck with Scalise.
I had small hope Jordan would deliver on the demands of the America First base, but essentially none that Scalise will. Gaetz played a blinder in ousting McCarthy, but he better have an even better move in store if we’re to get anything out of a Scalise speakership.
Gaetz ousting McCarthy, or at least being the primary force behind the ouster, showed to the Uniparty that there are deep cracks in the walls that surround them, and that with sufficient drive and conviction they’re grip on power will be exposed as vulnerable to we the people.
I am not sure that it matters. The Congress is worthless, and it will take more that a vote to change that fact. Our government is broken, and that did not happen overnight.
Scalise is not a well man. Besides his cancer, his innards are all torn up from those gunshot wounds.
A weak horse–easily lead around by… Karl Rove??

President Trump at Club 47 – West Palm Beach
Does any of this fallderall really matter?
In my lifetime left, probably not. If thinking of our great, great grandchildren, IMO yes, it matters. Increments got us here to the edge of the abyss or, by some accounts, already over the edge. Increments over decades will likely determine the Republic’s fate.
I see these familiar names as canaries for us to get equally familiar with those representatives at our state and county/city level.
If bad times are upon us, local is increasingly where survival will be determined to fight the larger more diverse fights regionally and nationally. Our inattention is part of why we’re in this mess. The rest is up to us.
