Republicans hate their base voters. If the broader Republican electorate knew the internecine nature of how the Republican politicians in DC operate, they would never vote for another Republican ever.
It’s all a system of conniving and positioning for a cushy committee assignment, indulgences from the lobbyist control apparatus, office locations and Machiavellian influence for the best junkets and largest leadership PAC deposits. That’s the truth, the non-pretending truth about the system at work behind the GOPe blind vote. It has nothing to do with principle centered leadership, and everything to do with self-indulgences and person affluence.
Steve Scalise is worse than Kevin McCarthy when it comes to supporting Democrats, way worse. Representative Steve Scalise (U-DC) will use sell your house via civil forfeiture and send that money to Zelenskyy [while deducting his indulgence fees of course].
WASHINGTON – No. 2 House Republican Steve Scalise won the GOP nomination for speaker, paving the way for a floor vote to make the election official.
Republicans held a secret closed-door ballot Wednesday morning after days of drama and infighting. Scalise, who is battling blood cancer, beat out House Judiciary Chairman and Trump ally Jim Jordan in a 113-99 vote.
But it is still a steep path ahead for Scalise to make the promotion official – he must get at least 217 votes on the House floor. It is not clear when a vote will be scheduled, but it could occur as soon as this afternoon. (read more)
Via Politico – […] Some Scalise allies are encouraging the Louisiana Republican to move to a floor vote quickly anyway, hoping to establish momentum after Wednesday’s internal vote. The rising national focus on national security matters such as the Israeli terrorist attack, these allies argue, will help convince GOP lawmakers to coalesce behind Scalise as the winner.
“I believe we’ll have a Speaker Scalise in office by dinnertime tonight,” said Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), an early Scalise backer. “I’m confident we’ll all be on the same page when we get to the floor.” (source)
A pox on all their Houses.

I officially left the Republican party when they did not support President Trump after the 2020 election.
Frankly, I should have left sooner.
Same and I know others who did the same. We’re now the wined and dined Independents.
Never been a party member. Also seemed to have missed the “wine and dine.” Probably comes from not answering the phone.
So did I – However, just rejoined here in NC as there is not an open Primary. I wanted to be sure to vote DJT in that Primary!
Same here, in FL.
After voting Trump, I’m going back on the feebs’ watch list. So to speak.
NC Primaries are such that independents can choose which party primary they vote in. Democrats can’t vote in Republican Primaries and vice versa.
Correct! The ‘Unaffiliated’, as it is called here in NC, can vote in either the D or R primary, but not both. R’s can only vote in R primary and D’s can only vote in D primary. Same for Green or Libertarian parties, but ‘U’s can choose whichever primary they want to vote in.
I remain a Registered Repub, not only for participating in primaries, but to gain entrance to R party meetings, from the local monthly meeting, to the County and State Conventions where State party officials are voted on.
Ultimate target; the State party Executive committee members, THEY are the barstuds that wield the real power, within the party, and dispence the largesse and patronage.
Absolute Truth, re: Ultimate Target.
Perhaps we should flood the zone.
No, you are incorrect. I live in NC and I am an independent. Independents can choose to vote in either the Republican or Democrat primary. This is the second time someone has posted the erroneous information that independents cannot vote in the primaries.
Did the same thing in Louisiana. Planning to stay a “Republican” until Sen. Bill Cassidy comes up for re-election so I can vote against him in the primary.
Scalise is SCUM.
Hopefully, Gaetz will team up with the Democrats again & remove Scalise from the Speaker’s Chair.
Then the Republicans will have to VOTE AGAIN, and this time, THEY WILL KNOW THAT THEY HAVE TO LISTEN TO MAGA, OR ELSE.
There is only one acceptable speaker. Donald Trump. Even if Trump doesn’t want to do it.
I am old, and my memory isn’t what it once was, but if memory serves, it was either Robert Heinlein, or Issac Asimov that used to say that “A RELUCTANT POLITICAL CANDIDATE IS THE BEST CANDIDATE OF ALL.”
Gaets already tweeted today ” Scalise>McCarthy”
Gaetz picked Scalise.
McCarthy was given 9 months to prove he was useless and wouldn’t keep his promises. Give the new speaker until November when the CR runs out again. If they haven’t moved on at least some of the original promises then vacate again before voting on the CR.
Douglas Adams, in Hitchikers guide, voiced the same concept.
The best person to be a “leader” is someone who has NO DESIRE to lead, and the WORST is the one who has been practicing their acceptance speach in a mirror, since they were 12.
I don’t think Truman, Reagan or PDJT felt there life would be incomplete, if they didn’t serve as POTUS.
They didn’t CRAVE it.
Joe, LBJ, Carter,…they NEEDED it.
And Alinsky honor student Obumma NEEDED it most of all.
Well they left us long ago we were never notified.
It’s politics baby. “I’m just a professional, nothing personal.”
When they steal kill and destroy to fill their puss guts, it’s personal.
I did that exact thing and if millions more left the party might listen to us or fold, either one of which is a good thing.
They don’t care about the millions of us who were registered Republicans.
They have their Big Club Big Donor class.
They. Don’t. Need. Us.
It’s exactly what the Democrat party consistently does with black voters. They take their vote for granted …..and do whatever the h3ll they want after an election is won.
Then, when the next election comes around, they do the same damn thing the Republicans do; “What’s your alternative? Ya gotta vote for us because ‘we’re better than them!!!'”
Washington DC is worse than a swamp…..
Ditto. Along with being a precinct chair in my Texas county where the chairman donated to democratic candidates the next county over not only his own pocket but from his business too. He was and likely remains stupid enough not to have hidden it in one of several ways he could have, but didn’t. Now Scalise. It’s over.
Yep. Same here.
No need to detox.
—-
I’ll believe THAT when I see it.
Same here, officially Libertarian (**** guvmint!) until primary time.
Ronald Reagan started out as a Democrat, and then changed to a Republican.
In 1979, when Reagan was asked : “WHY DID YOU LEAVE THE DEMOCRAT PARTY ? ”
Reagan replied: ” I DIDN’T LEAVE THE DEMOCRAT PARTY, THEY LEFT ME.”
Reagan and i are very similar.
I started out as a Democrat, and became uphappy with how corrupt they were.
When Reagan ran for the 1980 Presidency, i voted for him, and changed to Republican.
I used to write to Reagan via Western Union Mailgrams back then, and Reagan responded by sending me letters, and writing back to me a number of times, and sending me Christmas Cards, and “Welcome New American” cards when each of my sons were born.
I was really honored that at the end of his second term, when Reagan left office, he mailed out 100,000 “NANCY AND I ARE MOVING ON WITH OUR LIFE” cards with a picture of Him and NANCY on the Whitehouse lawn. The cards thanked us for sticking with him during his time in office.
100,000 cards is a lot of cards.
But given that there were 230 MILLION people in the USA at the time, 100,000 is a drop-in-the-bucket, and for Reagan to include me in his mailing list was very special.
I am telling you all about this because, after Reagan left office, George H. W. Bush took office, and he turned out to be a liar, and a wimp.
The Bush 4 year term was a real shit-show.
He swore “READ MY LIPS, NO NEW TAXES”, and then HE RAISED TAXES 6 TIMES IN THE FIRST 100 DAYS IN OFFICE.
So, in 1990 i left the Republican Party, and became an INDEPENDENT.
George H.W. Bush was a “ONE TERMER”, because i, and 19% of the voters in the 1992 election voted for Ross Perot instead of lying Bush, or pervert Clinton.
In 2004, i changed back to Republican, in order to vote for George W. Bush, who, was the “BEST OF THE WORST” at the time.
Being a Republican has helped me VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP TWICE, which i consider to be a good thing.
At the moment, i DESPISE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ALMOST AS MUCH AS I DESPISE THE DEMOCRAT PARTY.
But i have stayed registered as a Republican to “keep my options open” for the 2024 election.
Being able to vote in the 2024 Republican Primary gives me at least a “shot” at having an influence on who wins and runs in the GENERAL ELECTION.
If Trump is not restored to the Presidency in 2024, i have no intention of ever voting again.
It would be a waste of time.
I am sure many of you would disagree with me, but i am old, and after a very long lifetime of voting, that is how i feel.
In conclusion, like Reagan said about the Democrats, i say about the Republicans:
ie: I DIDN’T LEAVE THE REPUBLICANS, THEY LEFT ME.
The Republican used to be: SOCIALLY CONSERVATIVE.
Then they changed to: BUSINESS CONSERVATIVE
Then they changed to be: BUSINESS LIBERAL
Then they changed to be: BUSINESS NEW WORLD ORDER
Now they are: WOKE BUSINESS NEW WORLD ORDER
The Republican party no longer cares about the common man.
Neither does the Democrat party.
BUT NONE OF THIS MEANS ANYTHING IF THE ELECTION IS STOLEN AGAIN…..
My parents were also life-long Democrats and they felt the exact same way……..the Democrats left THEM.
President Trump won in 2020. There is no way on God’s green earth, that a dude “campaigning” from his basement won. I will never ever believe it.
Maybe I’m impatient, but after voting in CA and having my vote nullified in the past, and then the corruption in 2020 and once again on a national level, having my vote nullified, I have to say I’m done.
I’ve lost all faith in the voting process. I wish I didn’t feel this way, but I honestly feel like it’s going to take something major to wake people up that the country has been stolen by people who don’t care about us. Why else would our Southern border be wide open?
“….if the election is stolen again….”
How can we have fair and free elections when 7.5 million illegal aliens have invaded the country? What gets my ire up is every time I hear reporting on the news, they are called “migrants.” The word migrants to me means that they are only here temporarily and continue to “migrate”. These people are here PERMINENTLY. They are not going to be deported, they are not going to leave voluntarily. They. Are. Here. To. Stay.
I think Sundance is correct. Be aware of your surroundings. Be prepared to protect your family and home.
Folks, we’re in uncharted waters here.
Possibly Jay Valentine and his fractal teams at Omega4America.com http://omega4america.com/
MAGA standing on the rampart.. awaiting the call to action. ZERO leadership
after election steal be at your local protest.
leadership over.
+1. Be as subtle as possible, but it’s really time to begin calling muster around the country. No detailing because there’s eyes in here, but it has to be carefully planned and as subtle as possible. The worst is yet to come.
Gaetz is still alive, his thoughts active, his voice strong. When one listens to his speeches in the House chambers, he is consistent. Sure, he is a character, not an old man, filled with fire and thirsty for success. He is most certainly a thorn in many sides within Congress.
But he did make a point for those tired of broken promises…such as saying goodbye to Obamacare. I like him. I never did like McCarthy…too slick with words, light on serious…stop the democracts action!
Whom did Gaetz propose/support for Speaker?
Jim Jordan
Gaetz on Speaker vote: ‘Long live Speaker Scalise’(The Hill…just ow)
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) celebrated the House GOP’s nomination of Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) for Speaker on Wednesday.
“I’m excited for him,” Gaetz said in a video clip posted to C-SPAN’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I can’t wait to go vote for Steve Scalise. Long live Speaker Scalise.”
Gaetz previously said he would be pleased with either Scalise or House Judicial Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as the nominee for Speaker. However, he didn’t officially endorse either contender.
“I want to hear both of their specific plans on spending and on single-subject appropriations bills,” Gaetz said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
He said both would be a “monumental upgrade” over former Speaker Kevin McCarthy<
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4250476-matt-gaetz-steve-scalise-celebrates-speaker-nomination/
right Gaetz gets leg humped, and nothing changes.
a win win win to replace the republican fake in Florida with a more believable fake.
there’s really not much to work with amongst the whole lot of them
Kevin Hern eporting that Jim Jordan is whipping votes for Scalise.
Who also has never produced a damn thing except his fierce faced questioning worth nothing except to him to use in his next campaign commercials in Ohio who for the lack of anyone else they’ve ever been able to surface will re-elect him. My own state of Texas even worse – John ‘Juneteenth’ Cornyn, Abbott, Phelan, Cruz, McCaul, Grainger, Dan Popeye Crenshaw and more. Jordan has done nothing all the way back through and including Benghazi. Despite JOE Biden’s (I’m sick of hearing about his creep son) documented criminal acts and unprecedented treason, Jordan and the rest of the bastards can’t even produce one (1) subpoena – in the most TARGET RICH environment that ever existed in this former republic. FACTS.
Maybe he won’t be around long? 😇 After all he seems to be a target.
That is disgustijng/
He will. Next up they’ll move to to rescind the ability to vacate his ass and any to come IF in fact there’s anything left to come. I expected far better from Gaetz who last week received my very last donation and he’s not even from my state. SHTF clock tells me it’s 23:55. I can’t even count all the ways this country can go up in flames – quickly at that.
What difference does it make at this point.
correct answer. McScalise or McJordan…. whatevs.
New Boss = Same as the Old Boss (in secret as well)
The more things change the more they remain the same.
Meh….
SPIT!
Was part of selecting Scalise to protect Jordan from being exposed? If Jordan became speaker he would be revealed as a lickspittle? His image as strong MAGA must be preserved for now? Scalise has served his purpose and whatever damage he causes will be forgotten when cancer claims him?
my father-in-law had cancer for 35 years. just sayin’.
I remember before McCarthy was elected, everyone was wanting Jim Jordan to be the speaker, but he said absolutely NO! I wonder what changed his mind. He didn’t want to fight his friend McCarthy for the job?
Big differences between types of cancers and stages of cancers. Everybody has cancer cells in their bodies. Glad he had 35 years!!
Good point. There is a reason whenever the R flag flies over the House, there is no eager scrambling for the leadership position.
Recall Boehner the boner, and Ryan the outright f*cker; they became Speaker relunctantly, when nobody wanted it.
Its BECAUSE, with R’s being “in the majority” they KNOW the base will be watching them, and expecting them to wield the awsome powers if the Speaker to forward OUR policies, and when they don’t, they will be exposed.
The Dems have no such hesitation.
I think Jim Jordan fears a different kind of exposure. One involving his days as an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State, and the team physician practicing a very different kind of wrestling, with the students
that already played out and the accusations were BS.
However, his college age nephew was killed in a one-car accident.
Here comes more funding for Ukraine, another CR or Omnibus bill locking in another $2 trillion deficit!!! And ChiCom Joe gets all his Green New Steal money which will be completely wasted!!! “New boss same as the old boss!” Truer words were never sung!!! How terribly disappointing!!! God help us because we’re not helping ourselves!!! Hosanna!!!
“Funding for Ukraine” has arrived at a quite new juncture.
Funding and actual participation for a real war is now front and center. Ukraine and Ukraine “funding” may become a distant background.
As the smoke clears and Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood comes into focus the jumping over to one side of the fence to the other may become an USA Federal Government olympic sport. AND be more important than Ukraine.
Zelensky is already afraid of that.
Yes, Scalise has been House whip, for R’s which means HE was responsible for “whipping the votes” during this whole session, so everything McCarthy did, caving on budget, etc. has Scalises prints all over it.
“But, he got SHOT!”
Well, I actually prefer soldiers who DON’T get shot” lol.
“He has cancer!” Don’t CARE.
If we just keep voting harder I’m sure this will itself.
I think you left out a word.
I can provide one that fits, but Menagerie would hit me with the ruler.
😎
so funny. see ya in time-out.
+1. It’s called the Illusion of Freedom.
“we are asking the wrong people to fix problems” (regitiger, ad naseum, this CTH)
God Bless America
Is Trump pretending by continuing to remain a GOP Republican?
Fair question I think.
How do we stop the GOPe?
Is Trump pretending by continuing to remain a GOP Republican?
Silly question.
He was a GOP Republican when we had zero wars.
The primaries are over.
He’s THE GOP Republican leader..
He will be the next President.
No, it’s not a silly question unless you were absent the first time he was President.
He was undermined by the GOPe the whole time he served.
the same way we stop the uniparty and the same way the founders did it. stop paying taxes.
That only works if everyone is invested.
Count me in, but I highly doubt you will get the response you hope for.
Except the government already spends at least 2 Trillion more than our taxes pay for. All that will happen if we don’t pay taxes is that our debt(which the taxpayers are on the hook for) will increase even faster–But it will not stop Congress from still spending whatever they want.
Woke communism already has.
The doom loop …
Those hoping that with a Trump win the two houses in Congress, i.e. the DS, can be routed out are in for a nasty surprise. Trump should have started the MAGA party in Feb 2017. The R party will never be turned into a nonglobalist conservative party. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER so stop trying! Third party is the only way to destroy the R party!!
It’s easier and cheaper to take over a political party apparatus than to build one from scratch. In reality, if the GOP doesn’t want to do what their voters want, their voters will find another avenue to get it. The Whigs send their regards.
I agree.
Question: can one good apple unspoil the barrel?
No. It’s why the Good cannot use Entryism as a tactic to turn evil organizations Good. Entryism only works to corrupt, just as with apples in the old adage.
sorta like it’s easier to pull someone down than pull someone up.
Disagree, respectfully.
MAGA has existed since at least Goldwater, so 60+ years?
It has consistently resurfaced; Goldwater,…20 years later Reagan, then Buchannan, Perot, Ron Paul,…not talking about these men, so much as that each found a ready audience of support that was galvanised by an economic Nationalist populist message.
Each moved the needle, a little bit before being shoved back down.
PDJT created a major, impossible to go back titanic shift, however.
And, after Perot its obvious DJT HAD to do it in just the way he has,..destroying the RINOS from within the party, rather than lobbing grenades from outside.
Further to your point. Look at how the commie scum have destroyed the democrat party from within.
did they keep the vacate by 1 rule?
They’re not talking about it so I bet they will scrap it. They can’t keep any mechanisms for the people’s voice to be heard.
That will quietly be rescinded by the rules committee, and I suspect Gaetz and co. will NOT draw attention to it,…watch and see.
I thought the vacate rule had been around for 200 years but had never been used?
In the past it could not be initiated by just one Representative.
These assholes make me long for term limits. Career politicians are the 2nd most useless people on earth. There are a few who provide something, but very few. College professors are first and the useful ones are even fewer.
They make me long for a clean slate.
Absolutely need term limits. If I recall, when the country was founded, weren’t the representatives’ jobs part-time? Or am I not remembering it accurately? They don’t write the bills. We only need them to show up to vote 1 day/month and conduct worthless investigations the rest of the time.
Well if it is any consolation, if you look at the amount of time they actually spend on their “job”, they are still part time workers–they’re just paid full time.
They make me long for the electricity to go out for a few years.
Good point and accurate.
IMO we are watching the implosion of western nations.
How does one prepare when our respective governments treat voters like 💩
Folks tend to vote with their feet, and just yesterday we spoke with another neighbour and fellow legal immigrant to Canada that stated he and his wife are heading back to their native Hungary.
Will life be better, who knows? But he and his wife have had enough of Trudeau, and all the now obvious deceit.
Interesting times to be sure.
Cheers!
Gotta admit, if I WERE tempted to run (I’m NOT!) Hungary, Poland or Russia looking pretty good right now.
The parallels to the late Soviet geriatocracy, do rather keep piling up.
I mean some are senile, others drop dead abruptly some more are deathly ill. *Everyone* is vice ridden and a ghoulish, political cliche spouting crook.
I mean what is the state of this guy’s health? How long can he realistically last, in a high-stress job?
A pox on them all.
It’s true. They hate our guts. Right to the core. If they could have electoral success without us, they’d ditch us in a heartbeat. Don’t think the purveyors of machines don’t know that.
But yes, Sundance, they hate us, and the nature of the way in which the system has been misshapen and perverted is intended to get this precise result.
Works like a charm. The only problem is that too few of us hate them in return.
your problem is just time.
the campainging will bring rallies, the rallies will turn into simulatanous same time different locations rallies – it will mobilize numbers and practice run meetings…
The march to the election until stopped, and for the STEAL – is your only time where everything is ALMOST READY TO BE INVOLVED. (protesting the steal 2024 LOCALLLLLLLLLLLLLY not in DC)
holidays, leave, focus on election, anger of the steal, …
“, .The only problem is too few of us hate them in return.”
I disagree with your accessment. I think there is PLENTY who despise them, its just knowing elections are NOT an effective way of expressing their profound displeasure, and writing, calling etc. is likewise of no practical value, we are unsure of what to do next.
We tried “petitioning for redress of grievances”, and about 600+ of us got kicked in the teeth, with 4 killed….
Our #’s is NOT the thing, we have PLENTY of #’s.
Having WILL, and a clear coarse of action for exerting that will, is the challenge currently holding us back.
However, I think unfolding events will resolve those challenges…
Dutchman, I disagree entirely. I think fewer than 30% of the portion of the electorate that voted for PDJT in ’16 and ’20 have any idea about this. I think most of the electorate, writ large, think only in terms of PARTYA Good, PARTYB Bad. They’ll take the candidates they’re offered, and do almost nothing to influence a change in the offerings. Just the way it is. You’re right that we have plenty in raw numbers, but we haven’t enough plugged-into what actually goes on. Call them low-information voters or what you will, but there are plenty on our side who fit that description. Go look around twitter. You’d be led to believe that a wide margin of Republicans think Jim Jordan is the path forward… And THAT is the problem.
Let me put it another way: If your average Republican voter was as in-tune and engaged and knowledgeable as the average among Treepers, I’d agree with you. Sadly, that isn’t even close to the situation.
“PARTY A Good, PARTY B Bad”…..this is a good encapsulation of the problem; simple but true.
Leave the Corporation of the United States. Time to get back to being Free beings. Natural law.
I should have opened a fiddle shop in D.C. I’d be rich!
Thanks for the laugh. I needed that.
I am trying to remember the last time i felt represented vs governed…
Maybe Newt with the Contract for America?? Forget how he turned out, but at the time seemed like a response to the base…I don’t know : (
It was a bandaid and the beginning of the modern outrage club like Gowdy.
The Contract for America was Bravo-Sierra. Newt was a uniparty loser.
They’ll be on the same page all right – corrupt traitors, every one. Please God, let a bomb drop on DC and wipe them all out, except for Matt Gaetz. I know I will have to repent for saying that ….
Jordan is no better
But he send such Strongly Worded Letters as Chairman of the Judicial Committee!
“If the broader Republican electorate knew the internecine nature of how the Republican politicians in DC operate, they would never vote for another Republican ever.“
Been advocating that since 2007.
There is no path to reforming a corrupt system that involves the GOP. That field should be burned and the earth salted. If Trump somehow prevails next year, Scalise will do his Paul Ryan impression and block Trump.
It’s time for the MAGA Republicans in the House to split from the Party.
What a Sham!
Will Scalise even live long enough to get through a term?
Yes, they really believe WE are that Stupid!
These fools are blinded by the color green.
Words matter.
Liberals know this and use it to their benefit.
I encourage Treepers to use the correct terms to label our political parties.
UniParty
America First ( MAGA)
Repeated often enough, in enough places, it becomes “Truth.”
I’m disgusted beyond words.
It’s true, we need a new party and I agree President Trump should have started that party in 2017, but that we then.
Now? I will vote for President Trump, of course. However, I have serious doubts about my vote having any meaning.
Woe is us, woe is us.
I’m losing track of who to dislike. Maybe I just stop liking or trusting any politician. Then I’ll be safe – embittered, but safe. Sigh.
Scalise < Turd.
That’s not saying very much
Once again, Sundance scores a home run, with plain language, stop this pretending BULLSHIT.
This whole charade, enabled McCarthy to retire off stage, as they knew he was a lightning rod almost as bad as McConnell, at attracting the ire of the Base.
And, it provided a,solid distraction, to transition us away from Ukraine, which had been milked dry, and into the new “edge of WW3 crises, that calls for bipartisan unity” i.e. the attack on Israel.
Said all along, Gaetz was reelected in 2022, in Fla.
Same as RDS, and Marco by a significant margin.
If you are confident our elections are rigged, you must conclude that those who “won” election, in 2022 were INSTALLED by the Big Club (that we ain’t in) otherwise, they would be in with KL and her slate, a similar slate in Nev, Majewski, Karamo, Mastrianno, DePerno and even down to the State legislature level (Castronuevo, for instance).
Its really a binary situation; either election outcomes ARE controlled and manipulated by the Uniparty, or they aren’t.
If you are confident they ARE, than any “winner” is ipso-facto and by default compromised.
THERE are NO “White hats” in Congress,…so who the Speaker is, doesn’t matter.
I think corrupt elections have been a national pass time since the founding. In Washington’s time the guy that got elected often had the biggest spread of alcohol and food at the elections site. Maybe then that was more honest. I’m about certain fraud has been perpetuated and rationalized for whatever cause du jour, from 1776 to the Civil War to Tammany Hall to the Cold War and now Global Fleecing.
backroom deals are not “winning”
and we the people never ever get a win because the system left us a long time ago.
it’s time to organize as one; our own elections, complete with photo ID and paper ballots.
it will pull the veil on all the fraud in our election system once and for all.
(U-DC)
Totally stealing this.
So…… James Hodgkinson was actually a good guy?
Vile!
I was almost sure that Zelinsky would win given his great popularity in the House.
But it looks like I was half right anyway.
“The King is dead. Long live the King”.
Republicans HATE their base voters and if they knew how they operate they would never vote for them again, to paraphrase sundance. THEN WHY THE HELL DO WE? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WISE UP AND LEAVE THE UNIPARTY FOR GOOD AND START A 3RD PARTY? A MAGA/PATRIOT/AMERICA FIRST PARTY!
Blood cancer? If he’s been clot-shotted up it’s doubtful he’ll last long with that.
Its not every day I root for cancer…..
stop it.
Either Rep Jordan or Scalise will be far better than former Speaker McCarthy.
Scalise gains support now due to his long and arduous recovery from the Bernie supporter’s Terrorist attack that almost killed him. That he returned to Congress to work to represent his Metairie constituents (that includes me) gains him sympathy within the House, if not the Freedom Caucus in total.
That, plus the pressure the House now feels from the growing tensions of war in the ME that has now caused two US Navy task force groups to move into position near Israel/Gaza puts added weight on the Members to elect a new Speaker as soon as possible to support Israel in it’s dire situation now,…. or look even more foolish than they now appear. The House GOP also has to added pressure to now exhibit their ability to Govern, period.
Truth told,… I worked with Steve 23 years ago in Metairie, LA on a LA Gov and the Bush potus elections. I knew him as a LA legislature member before that and can tell you that Steve was a very conservative business man before politics and as a LA House member.
Yes, he has moderated his political positions and actions since becoming a Congressional House member, many of which that I have disagreed with over the years.
However, Scalise did so to play the Capitol Hill game to go up the latter there to gain the positions of the house chain of power to be able to effect positive change.
Hoping here now, that if elected Speaker as is now forecast, Steve will make enough positive changes to assuage a lot of the criticism that he receives for being GOPe and playing the WDC game.
As President Reagan said regarding getting legislation through Congress, “80% of a loaf is better than no loaf at all!” Looking from here for at least 80% from you,.. Rep Scalise!
As Trumps says, “We’ll See!”
I’d like to hope your hope comes true, but hope don’t float, so I’m going to plan on things accelerating towards worse before it gets better.
Thanks, can’t say I blame you.
A good friend of my father, Senator Trent Lott, said that “running Congress is like herding cats.” And, as Forest said, “My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
Long before I meet Scalise, I started my Mad Man career in New Orleans in Political PR Consulting and saw up close how the sausage is made by working with Gov Edward Edwards (who ended up in Fed prison after 3 terms) and Mayor Moon Landireu (yea, that Landrieu family).
Along with my father’s strong disapproval, I lacked the moral deformation to ‘go along’ and got out of the Biz quickly and have never gone back.
Dad ducked a Rep and then Senator’s job after having been a page in Congress and saw the same as I did, too much corruption. He deferred the job(s) to Trent Lott.
But, I still think we get the Govt we vote in, aside from today’s rigged elections, so always vote for the best candidate you can find, if any are still willing to enter the fray, as Trump has.
I hope and still think that a Speaker Scalise will not be another Paul Ryan to Trump’s next Presidency and will allow him to get most of his America First agenda passed cuz I believe Steve still remembers where he comes from,… a very Conservative home town and he still values his relations there.
Hope again now, with God’s will, that I am right.

I hope so, too, and think there is a possibility that Scalise may surprise all the naysayers out there.
Scalise has always impressed me as “playing the political game” to get to the top…now we will see where he really stands. He is certainly better than Paul Ryan or McCarthy!
We’re about to find out what Scalise is made of. Praying he proves himself to be a true representative of his Congressional District.
Well that’s a ”little” more reassuring.
The Best Assurance for all of us now is Trump as #47,…. the best negotiater I have ever seen and he knows the ropes in the DC Swamp now. Scalise will defer to his judgements.
Gaetz el al should force any candidate to the same agreement McCarthy had. Otherwise what’s the point?
the Democrat Leader has more votes than Scalise.
this ends in submission to McCarthy and a reminder to MAGA that you are irrelevant.
america needs to do to dc what israel is doing to gaza.
I wrote two emails to my Representative Dan Bishop encouraging him to support Gaetz.
He sent me this thoughtful reply today:
On October 3, 2023, for the first time in our republic’s history, the House of Representatives voted to vacate the Office of Speaker. After careful deliberation, I voted against the motion to vacate for three reasons. I do not believe Kevin McCarthy’s Speakership delivered on the promises he made in the January agreement to put him in the Speaker’s Chair. However, after nine full months, it’s clear that he is the most accurate reflection of the current House Republican Conference.
Second, Congress operates by numerosity. There must be substantial groundswell for an effort toward fundamental change. One person’s play call with seven other supporters does not portend a path toward long-term success and fundamental change to break the swamp cartel. I did not wish to support a motion that may change the Speaker’s name but did not have the proper groundswell to enact a meaningful change to business as usual in Washington. That’s why I never moved to vacate the chair myself, as it did not have the adequate numerosity to lead to anything but chaos.
Finally, an overwhelming majority of our Republican Conference supports McCarthy for Speaker spells the need for a serious reckoning in our party if we wish to make the GOP a force capable of confronting the crises – and opposition – we face. I chose to seek a different path, outside of Congress, to fight for this goal. I could not impose this burden on an institution from which I am soon to depart. It is my hope that our conference can use this opportunity to reflect on how to be better suited to fight for the American people.
While I chose not to support this latest motion, I respect my 8 colleagues who courageously took a different path. I also condemn any calls for retaliation against these Members for their vote to oust Speaker McCarthy, as it was well within the agreed upon rules of the House. It is now the Republican Conference’s job to unify around a new candidate to fill the vacant Speaker’s Chair.
He’s not wrong, but Gaetz is at least ripping the mask off the uniparty and making them sweat and sweat.
My reply to Rep. Bishop. Right now we are all hostages in the passenger seat of speeding car. If we reach wherever our hostage taker is going, we’ll likely end up tortured and dead. In that moment you have to pray to God and and have the tenacity to jerk the wheel and put it in God’s hands.
Dan Bishop if he lived centuries ago; While I can not support this Declaration of Independence, I do admire the signatories courage but must remain aligned to the Crown as its really the only way forward, it’s just too messy to think otherwise…….
Excellent parallel.
The GOP machine tries to send me contribution begs.
Sent back with ‘dead to you until the stolen election is fixed”!
National Security is the Southern and Northern Borders not the Israel/Gaza battle.

NEW — INSIDE THE ROOM — After Scalise won the nomination for speaker JIM JORDAN stood up and said: We can’t go to the floor unless we have 217. If it’s Scalise that can get there, I’ll be for him.
Far from an endorsement from Jordan.
Well, he’s about as successful as Tim Ryan at getting the Speaker’s nod. Must be an Ohio thing.
Congress spends more time in recess in a day than my grandchildren spend in a month
