Nothing to see here, according to doctors paid by Washington DC to monitor the health of the politicians in charge of our nation. Despite the series of cognitive episodes and freezing on camera, Mitch McConnell is mentally fit, healthy and recovering from his slip and fall. Yep, that’s their story and they’re sticking to it.
As requested by those in charge who want to assure the public not to believe their eyes, capitol physician Brian Monahan sent a letter to Senator McConnell outlining the medical evaluations following two episodes, in which the Senate minority leader stopped talking for roughly 30 seconds in a media availability.
In the letter to McConnell, Dr Monahan recommended “no changes in treatment protocols” for his recovery from an earlier fall that left McConnell with a concussion.

Both are devout Christians.
Definitely NOT asking for a diagnosis of the clearly affected McConnell.

I believe that these are either seizures or RINDs-reversible ischemic neurological deficits. Not good.
Prodromal to a big event. After his fall, i remember mentioning that he likely got a subdural hematoma along with his fractured ribs.
Its tough to know exactly what this is in the absence of his scans, medical history and medication list.
All we can do is speculate.
But clearly he needs to go home and stay there.

I saw a cartoon once wherein the back of Fauci is seen as he approaches Death in its familiar guise and which is summoning him with one finger… and with another pointing to a mountainous pile of money where Fauci is directed to place the two massive, over-filled valises of money he is carrying where others have had to leave their treasures as they depart for eternity.
If I say it was powerful, I am understating the effect it had on me.
And as no one can escape that moment but who seem to believe that it is still possible, a terrible shock awaits. My fantasy is that I could deliver copies of that stark cartoon to McConnell and everyone else in places of power. Guessing about medical conditions is definitely interesting fun, Bets, but if you are a doctor you aren’t supposed to speculate publicly about any patient you haven’t examined or consulted on personally. And if your license is anything below a license to prescribe, you definitely aren’t supposed to weigh in AT ALL. It’s a violation of the scope of practice that one can be fined for under HIPAA.
I realize there are those “TV doctors” who bend the rules, but they really can be sued for that. Ex-techs like me are supposed to only offer generalized info about what conditions have which kinds of symptoms. Same goes for nurses. Our ability to perform exams and procedures grants a level of knowledge somewhere in between that of laypersons and prescribing providers, but the licenses prohibit offering opinions tied to any specific patient. If you do it in a clinical setting, like reveal something to a patient’s family you overheard the doctor say, it’s an instant firing offense.
There are no such restrictions upon non-medical personnel though. Y’all are free to disagree with the Capitol Physician all you want, even though such opinions are unqualified (having not seen McConnell’s chart). Folks complain about how much HIPAA restricts speech, but patients’ privacy is better protected now than it was before the ’90s. If you are Antonin Scalia, and you don’t want your extensive history of heart disease to be available for public discussion, you can keep it in the family until after you die. It’s up to McConnell, not his doctors, how much info about his condition comes out.

Oh, that reminds me of a case of a child having petit mal seizures at a high rate. Just looking that the child play wouldn’t have given sufficient clues to eyes that had not seen it previously. The neurologists hooked the child up to an EEG machine and recorded both the EEG and the child’s actions. That was quite enlightening.

Their ability to use this technology with faces, bodies, movement is phenomenal, but, they do not quite have the communication down pat, unless they are adlibbing. They can cut and paste a lot of existing audio to make it look like someone is giving the speech, but it is hit and miss. We modulate words just a bit when we run them together in a sentence, they struggle to duplicate this effect of natural speech without clipping parts of sentences. They also don’t have the tempo down nor the exact inflection. The inflection is closer than the tempo.

My 78 year old mother, who has no known diseases, a little bit of arthritis, and two fairly new knees, is active, takes the grandkids and her dog on daily walks, attends sporting events, is active at her church and others, and is still sharp enough to be an active writer and travel the world.
But this weekend she shared with us that she is wrapping up her time driving her vehicle. She senses her diminished ability there, and does not want to hurt anyone just because of pride or personal convenience. She will get rides from friends and family, do a bit more ordering via delivery for groceries and other goods and services, and use Uber, Lyft, and a taxi driver she has used for years when going to the airport or downtown.
McConnell, Feinstein, and Biden have all more than lost their fastballs, and don’t even have their veteran wits for when to throw a curveball or accuracy to pitch low and inside. They have tremendous power, and they are endangering millions of us every day making decisions that impact the world. They don’t care about us.

Even my doctor does not write a letter like this. It is so artificial. Medical records and tests are only available through one’s doctor without any letter included because your doctor would ask to see you upon your tests results being sent to your doctor’s office. You can also log in and see the entire report. Many of the numbers and medical terms are usually not understood by most people, which is why your doctor will ask to see personally. Then he will usually bring up the most important point before answering or explaining what the test report’s details mean; mostly if there is a problem.
After your physical visit you will see also a After Visit Summary which details what your doctor did or explained and any prescriptions, referral to make a follow-up visit with the the test doctor’s office, or another specialist to attend to what new details indicate the need to see a specific category of specialist one may have not seen before.
This is all spin narrative.
