There has been increasingly visible media promotion of various municipalities reinstituting mask recommendations to battle a new BA.2.86 covid variant.
Today, the New York City Dept of Health became the latest large metropolitan area to recommend the return to face masks; however, no government mandates yet.
[…] Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, along with other proven prevention tools – like masking, testing, and staying home when sick – continue to be our best defense against COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses. (link)

QUESTION: Are you starting to see increased emphasis on mask wearing in/around your local area?
Yes, but this is Los Angeles.
I have a client in West LA that insists on meeting via zoom due to the “looming Covid threat”. I laughed thinking she was kidding. She was serious.
Norcal here.
Not too many masks so far, although I did have a lively discussion with an elderly masked woman at JC Penny last week.
She said she was a nurse, as if that answered everything, although she must have retired before the Covid shutdowns.
I said in that case you must know about herd immunity.
I told her the vax was making people sick.
She was not moved from her opinion and continued to wear her mask in the near empty retail store.
The sales woman said if there is another shutdown retail will not survive. People have not come back.
Here, retail ignored the mask requirements, and many customers didn’t wear them….
I was confronted by a mask wearing lady in 2020 and here is how it went.
HER–You’re not wearing a mask.\
Me, I;m not sick
Her-you are spreding the virus.
Me-How can I when I am NOT sick with covid.
Her
-Well, I am wering one.
Me–Are you sick with covid??
Her–No, I wear it to protect myself and others.
Me–Well, then what the hell are you protecting others from if you are not sick with covid.
Her eyes told me that she couldn’t fathom such common sense. She stood there in turmoil, as most leftist do when the truth arises.
It is possible that the woman is asymptotic with Covid. However if she is wearing a mask then she would be protected from you if you had Covid. In other words there was no need of her to confront you if she chooses to wear a mask and you don’t.
There is no such thing as asymptomatic anything much less covid.
Masks protect no one from anything.
Don’t come here and spread lies.
I also remember articles about how Coroners were finding fibers in noses of the deceased from the masks.
I will not shop in any store that requires masks. Any business advertising that they do not require masks will do very well financially.
I’m sorry but you are incorrect. One can carry the virus and not exhibit symptoms. The virus travels via water droplets large enough for the mask to block. This is the reason why mask wearing is recommended. Unfortunately, this is the mistake that a lot of commentators make when they say the virus is too small for the masks to block. It is technically true that the virus itself is too small for the masks but the virus needs water droplets (typically saliva) in order to spread from one person to another.
Keep your mouth shut instead of wearing the diaper.
More people should learn the benefit of that anyway.
I think you’ve been wearing your mask too high on your face.
https://www.inverse.com/article/49747-what-is-the-human-virome
”Two words, Donkey: Shut Up!”
“The virus travels via water droplets large enough for the mask to block. This is the reason why mask wearing is recommended.”
I’ll accept your opinion and ask you to tell me what is the size of this water clad virus?
Why does it need to penetrate the mask?
The gap between your face and whatever cloth or fiber mask-no matter how many layers of masks you affix-far exceeds the size of any particulate you are likely to encounter.
I love the scruffy, unshaven look. Many people are not freshly shaven.
A mask does nothing!
The virus can enter through your eyes. Again a mask does nothing.
You might want to consider researching contamination and breakthrough when recommending masks.
Is the person capable of sanitizing their hands before touching the mask- each and every time.
Breakthrough- it happens in filters and even giant activated charcoal filters with kilograms of the stuff.
It’s when the nasty stuff on the outside of the filter travels to the inside. It’s really useful to know if you want to protect yourself and others.
Now I’m going to vent.
I was forced into the “respiratory protection program” and required masking with the N-95, because I refused the jab. I had to wear the mask during work and get tested weekly as an accommodation to my religious exemption.
They sent me and my cheap ass gruesome purchased N-95 to the required fit test at a lowest bidder occupational health clinic.
A young kid put a clear garbage bag on my head and sprayed this ATOMIZED LIQUID into the bag.
It went straight into my lungs! I had to endure that sweetened water mist for 15 minutes and was coughing it out for days later. I couldn’t cough during the test or I’d fail it and have to repeat with an equally ineffective mask.
If you doubt me, I respectfully suggest you head to the nearest occupational health clinic and try a fit test yourself and I hope you get the sweet liquid test solution and not the irritant one.
The covid virus is so small that it easily passes through the fabric of any mask.
You’re exactly right. You might as well erect a chain link fence to keep mosquitos out of your yard.
When I went to nursing college we were taught that you don’t wear your mask room to room. They catch germs like any other piece of filthy cloth. That’s why they quit requiring nurses to wear those silly caps. If we were required to mask/gown/glove up to treat certain patients then we were also required to throw those things in the trash before leaving the room, because they were germ carriers.
I’m a retired nurse and I get a kick out of all the germ EXPERTS…..

Great meme but Sam-I-Am has complaints about being confused with the Cat.
This is an excerpt from “Cat in the Hat”:
…’now look what you did!’
said the fish to the cat.
‘now look at this house!
look at this! look at that!
you sank our toy ship,
sank it deep in the cake.
you shook up our house
and you bent our new rake.
you SHOULD NOT be here
when our mother is not.
you get out of this house!’
said the fish in the pot…
This is an excerpt from GREEN EGGS AND HAM:
…I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them Sam-I-Am…
.
I just went to the rodeo. Not a mask in sight in a crowd of 10,000 people in my small town.
Oh, and we had a prayer (in Jesus name; no interfaith prayer here) and everyone sang along with the kid performing the National Anthem.
Don’t let them kid you; traditional America is alive and well in many places.
Thank you for sharing.
Makes me want to curse. My family will absolutely not comply. That is all.
Jimbo, you will like this. My 87 year old aunt is visiting my cousins and me in Jacksonville, Florida.
Like me, she is a pureblood. She refused to take the jab or wear the muzzle. Yes, she is old, her body is falling apart (no body lasts forever, but our souls do 😃 😍 🙏 💖 , and she knows it) her mind still works 100% 😃 😍 💖 , unlike XIDEN, the NWO puppet 🤬 🤬 🤬 . She realized right from the beginning the whole COVID thing was all about mind control, and she refused to let the NWO take her freedom. And she supports President Trump 😃 😍 💖 , who stands for us 💖 .
She is a hardcore Christian, and so are my cousins and me. Her faith was one of the things that helped me reach GOD in person on the 16th of June, 2016 😃 😍 🙏 💖 . We love our aunt, she loves us, we all love GOD, and we all ignore the NWO evil ones.
Our Texas Legislator is finally “getting there” – This became Texas Law today, Sept. 1, 2023:
“Banning COVID-19 mandates: Senate Bill 29 bans the state from enacting mask mandates, vaccine mandates, or business and school closures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In 2020 and 2021, Gov. Greg Abbott imposed these restrictions at the urging of U.S. and world health officials as a way to rein in the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and protect particularly vulnerable Texans from contacting the virus. Many conservatives opposed the restrictions, saying they were needless or overused. The new law makes exceptions for certain entities, such as prisons, hospitals and assisted living centers or nursing homes.”
But then there’s this: House Leadership Attacks Lawmaker After Exposing Obstruction in Austin – Texas Scorecard
Recently flew from Nashville through Denver to Dickinson ND. Saw some masking in airports and flights, including a flight attendant on the way back. Definitely an increased number.
Lemme guess, the many newly arrived immigrants won’t have to wear them.
Nor will they be tested for anything. How else will Joey import lots of diseases?
You make a very real point. It wasn’t long after Atlanta boasted about being a sanctuary city that I noticed a local CVS advertising tuberculosis testing in their little clinic. The waiting area looked like an Ethiopian coffee stand.
TB testing is common for hospital staff, but I’d never seen it advertised to the public before. I guess all those doctors and engineers might have brought a little something extra with them.
Retired NYS teacher here. My mom (who has advanced dementia) is in a nursing home in downstate NY and she’s in isolation for 10 days for being exposed to this thing. Tested negative at least 10 times, tests which are definitely NOT free, and yet she still cannot leave her room until next Wed. My dad can’t see her unless he’s wearing a spacesuit, and cannot take her out of her room. Not sure who this is damaging more, her, or him. Insanity.
Oh, and masks are sparse so far midstate NY, but increasing in number amongst certain members of the population.
My sympathies with you, the purposeful dumping of Covid patients in Nursing Homes is mass murder and they should not get away with it. This is one that really gets me upset. They were depending on “government” taking care of them instead the government murdered tens of thousands of them. Think about that on many different angles. Respectfully Unicorn
Cuomo feared COVID ‘fire’ in nursing homes before notorious order: Kushner (More proof it was premeditated mass murder)

@Unicorn63,
I hope in my fury for the nursing home crimes by the Democrats, that I did not offend you.
Here is some information if you are interested that may help you, your family and your beloved mother. I trust Doc Wallach.
I hope this helps.
Nutrition for ALZHEIMERS Dr Joel Wallach
Absolutely NO need for an apology, Colkitto. Appreciate your taking the time to respond, and to share. Sadly my eyes are wide open to what’s going on. We were able to keep my mom home for the longest time, but the antics of those in charge over the last 3 years led to a steady decline in her condition, and to a decline in my dad’s well being too. 62 years together, so the separation from her is doing a number on him. While we are raging at this ‘isolation’ need, we are finding ways to speak out and inform others. Interestingly, the staff see the realities of what’s really happening, and are starting to align with the realities of science.
Taught (thinking to hundreds of students) about Galileo and his forced recanting of what was/ is so obviously truth because of the then ‘powers that be’. Thanks to truth carriers of that time, his works made it north, where the truth, with the help of some sunlight, prevailed. Science is science.
So, I’ll repeat this, almost like a chant, to remind myself of what we’re up against…we must see things as they are, not as we wish them to be.
Warmest Regards to you.
Ty Unicorn. I have a special love for our senior citizens, Parents/Grandparents/Great-Grandparents/ancestors etc. I really wish you & your loved ones well. The greatest person I ever meet in my life was my Grandmother.
She was much like Tasha Tudor. You should come onto the daily Open Thread here. Some wonderful people and many of my Treehouse friends like Betsy Jones are there. You can also find help there with prayers & such. Ty so much for your warm regards, and for excusing me. And of course prayers and best wishes to you & your family.
Thank you for this additional post. This community is one that I so admire.
I have read the daily thread, and have considered joining in on the conversations. With your invite, I believe now I will!
You’ll love it. Generally we stay away from politics. Looking forward to seeing you there! Best wishes to you & your family, I am deeply sympathetic.
As the CDC, Pfizer,.Amazon, Home Depot, the airlines, and Target gear up for another fake lockdown and more mandates, make sure everyone sees this.
Masks DO NOT stop viruses.
Especially pretend ones.
With thanks to Jello. It’s to good not to repost and repost.
OSHA went through the same nonsensical song and dance. Long bullet pointed “guidance” document on N95 mask issuance, usage, storage, etc. etc. ending with a statement saying “inform the employee that the mask will not protect against c19 infection or transmission” laughed hard when I read it.
“Let’s play pretend…
You pretend your mask works..
I’ll pretend I’m wearing one.”
Haha good one Bet
That picture is a great representation.
The N95 masks only filter down to 0.3 micro meters through the filtration media. As your picture shows, the coronavirus is 0.1 micro meters. That’s one third smaller than what the N95 masks can filter through the filtration media. That doesn’t even factor in all the leaks around all gaps at the edges of the mask.
Using a comparison that people can relate to, it’s equivalent to trying to use a fence that can only keep out something as small as a softball to keep out something the size of a golf ball.
Then, to top it all off, if the mask did work and trapped the virus on the filtration media on the outside of the mask, what happens to the virus? Does it die instantly? Is the mask like some kind of magical bug zapper? Or does it just rest there waiting for you to pull the mask off and transfer the virus to your hands?
It’s complete lunacy.
Until people realize it’s not at all about health and safety, it’s about power and control by “the club”, they will be trapped.
Your taking off your mask has the wonderful effect of removing “the club’s” mask at the same time.
Every day I see at least one person in FL with a mask in my very blue County.
No mention of it here in AZ, but a few deranged liberals sometimes wear them…
Yes that’s my experience here in Arizona too. Rare to see unless deranged liberal with other telltale signs (purple hair, etc)
A 30 minute address by Dr Peter McCullough is in this article.
Names names and timelines.
Well worth listening to.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/kunstler-how-pitchforks-finally-come-out
Outstanding. The last 6 minutes were an awakening.
North TX.
No masks
Not seeing it in NW Ohio which is pretty conservative
Yay Team NW OHIO!! 🙂
See my comment on the previous page!
Stupid is going to do stupid.
East Texas here: very seldom I have seen people masked. Only some employees at Starbucks or some other employees in stores. Mind you, it’s been ridiculously and unusually hot this past August and into September with over 100 degree temps, several weeks in a row. Humidity, too. At 108 degrees, it is hard enough trying to breath outside without a mask on!
Sundance, what about calling for a Sticky Note Campaign? With sticky notes mentioning links to the 170 plus studies that say masks don’t work and cause harm, especially to children.
Or sticky notes with”I will not comply.”
We have large inverted orange plastic barrels in all of our road construction zones. People call them cone zones, but they are definitely barrels. Some of the drivers try to bump the barrels over when they get placed too close to the traffic lanes. I drove by a barrel that was on its side and it was shaped just like the Cat in the Hat’s hat. My wife and I have been laughing about the Cat in the Hat’s hat for several days and you put the Cat in the Hat meme in here! 🙂
My point is, I will not wear a mask for anyone and if they try to force me to wear one, I will not ever go in their establishment again. These damned idiots have to pay a price for this kind of nonsense.
Seattle area, masks abound. I’ve seen people alone in conference rooms wearing masks on a zoom call🤣🤣🤣
Believe it or not at the Cuyahoga state park near Akron, Ohio, all by herself. no one within 100 ft of her, looking scared and silly. Didn’t bother talking to her she looked frightened, avoiding everyone and i just don’t have the patience for those types
Needs a little more work but its a start. Motion to table an alternative to Mickey Mouse
Swing ’em from the highest pole, and add the other nursing home murderers including Charlie Parker
Starting to see more and more sheeple around Boston wearing the face diapers.
I work in one of Boston’s hospitals and more employees have been wearing them there also.
While so far there are no mandates at work, or on the city and state levels….one gets the sense that the mandates are coming back soon to very liberal and blue Boston, Marxist-chusetts…
This is the same load of bull💩 being pushed down our throat to recreate the conditions of 2020, the only way they can pull off another massive steal for a Democrat against Pres DJT!!! 🤬
Wonder if this will apply to anti-vaxxer Aaron Rodgers?
Yes. Broward county, FL. There is increased mask usage. Even masks on kids 😭
Yes in the last week noted mostly “black peoples “ now have face diapers on in stores. Why🤷♀️don’t know.
Those MASKS are discarded everywhere and POLLUTE the earth
California Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernadino Counties), pretty conservative area considering. I haven’t noticed a big uptick in masks. Kaiser Permanente is “recommending masks” but I was not met at the door with a mask for my appointment this past week. I was not wearing one nor was the nurse in my Dr. office. The Doctor was masked (I could hardly understand a word he said). I spent 4 days in the Kaiser Riverside Hospital two weeks ago with a collapsed lung (after the recommendation came out) and I only remember a couple nurses and one Doctor wearing masks. That includes probably a couple dozen nurses and at least 6 Doctors. I was surprised since they had been enforcing masking up to late spring this year.
Yeah, I’ll wear a mask again if that’s the only way I can buy food or conduct other important business. If they threaten to call the local police when I try to purchase my next pound of beans, ham hocks and coffee, well hunger strikes aren’t my thing. I’m 80 years old, severe COPD and had the damned disease at least once. Felt lousy for a couple days and off my feed for maybe a week. Nothing close to the bouts of Strep I had every winter as a youngster with 103 + degree fever.
Sorry for the rant but you ask how things were going!
Thank you for the post Sir,
God bless you
“Yeah, I’ll wear a mask again if that’s the only way I can buy food or conduct other important business. ….I’m 80 years old, severe COPD and had the damned disease at least once.”
Other options that you might consider:
“Face covering” – I used a clear face shield most of the time during “prime masking”.
On occasions when that did not work (entering hospitals, etc.), I put on a mask, but as soon as I got past front desk/ security – I took mask off and put face shield on.
I also used masks with slits cut into them so I could breathe.
You can also modify a mask by cutting out the center and using clear silicone sealant (pure grade for aquarium repair) and glue in some fine white mesh that the 3 packs of garlic cloves come in at the supermarket.
I for a short time, used a face-shield that had been painted BLUE on the bottom half. Cut off the top half so I could see without having to wipe down the silly thing when it became smudged…..
No one ever said anything about the get-up although I received a few quizzical looks.
August 2020 I went to an outdoor craft show which required masks. But they were selling plastic face shields for $5 as an option and I got one and wore it whenever a mask was required for the first month or so. They became quite popular as an alternative to masks and when the tyrants saw that people were smiling at each other, well they couldn’t have that. Even though the scarf lady recommended them.
Airlines were the worst. Every creative option that was suggested was prohibited. They even “suggested” that if you had medical conditions that made it impossible for you to wear a mask, “you should consider not flying.”
I am still amazed at how easily people turned on their fellow citizens over the mask mandates. One worker at Giant Eagle came at me and said I needed a mask and when I told her I had a medical exemption (as in I was a mammal and needed to breathe through my nose), she came at me like a maniac and directed me to the self-serve line so I wouldn’t infect the cashiers.
I am not going through this bs again – at least not quietly.
Not yet. Not like I’m expecting MI to surprise me though.
For NYC covid, here’s their long-term cases/hospitalizations/deaths.
https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-data-totals.page
No masks as New Zealand heads out of winter.. I do not think people would listen if they try again here.
No one will wear masks where I live. To much common sense.
NY city is a ship of fools. Watch out when the money is gone and it will be gone one day.
So far only the same, hopeless idiots who have continued with masks since the beginning of “masking” seem to continue to wear masks today in my part of Florida. They have never stopped wearing masks and probably never will stop.
Not many masks here in eastern WV. I had surgery in a large hospital complex recently and no staff ever wore a mask. A few elderly people were wearing them. Interesting is that my regular Dr always wears a mask, even now. He went to Johns Hopkins and is no dummy.
Saw a few Branch Covidians walking around by themselves outside with masks on. I live in an affluent part of a blue state filled with leftists with luxury beliefs but insulated enough to be free from the consequences of their own ideology.
Lionsgate film studio has dropped its mask mandate…..

RESISTANCE IS WORKING: Kaiser Permanente, Lionsgate film studio both drop mask mandate amid rising pushback
https://www.naturalnews.com/2023-09-01-kaiser-permanente-lionsgate-drop-mask-mandate.html
Boise, Idaho: not a renewed push for masks yet, but the state Health and Welfare Department has a new series of TV ads encouraging vaccination. These ads–which disappeared from the TV and radio earlier this year–came back in early August. The same virtue signaling (“I did it for my mother who has heart failure,” or “It’s the right thing to do”) as well as lecturing from “medical experts” (the most recent one from a pharmacist) were present. Oddly enough, “Covid” wasn’t specifically mentioned, just “get vaccinated.”
In my opinion, they are starting the drumbeat now so that once they have the latest vaxx name for the latest scariant, they’ll just insert the name of the scariant and name of the next vaxx. “Get vaccinated” will be drummed into us–doesn’t matter for what, as long as the sheep go along with it.
Toke my wife in for bi annual heart check, so he can renew her blood thinner prescription. So towards the end of the appointment, he wants to know if we are interested in the new cancer screening tests, so I said I am 80 and my wife is 76, so will they help us live longer I said, just more data collection. The best part is when he came in ,I said you look different, I said you been trying out those Botox shots they are peddling, we got on with the visit. The topper was he left and we are leaving and he pops back in and says he has been training for half marathon with his daughter, I said that is it took 10 years off of you. No masks in the office, and no mention of covid or flu shots, he knows my answer to that. PS I live in Meridian.
From the comments I read, it sounds like some of the more leftist areas are falling for it again, but the overwhelming majority of the country is not buying it. I hope that is true. I also hope that people in those liberal s_wholes wake up and see the rest of us not dying.
I’m in Riverside County, California, 70 miles east of Los Angeles, a heavily populated area. I am out a decent amount all week and have not seen an uptick masks or anything covid related.
Clark County Nevada small town . no masks
I took my father to an appointment at the WVU Eye Institute on Thursday. While waiting in the exam room the computer had several “screen messages” one of which being WVU Medicines updated COVID policies. I took a picture of it with my camera & tried using tineye so I could post here, but image was too blurry.
Basically non-vaxed employees are now required to wear a mask at all times when “entering an occupied hospital or ER room” (which was clearly evident by the poor scribe who accompanied the doctor into our exam room); if symptomatic & covid vaxed employees were only required to wear a surgical mask, but if unvaxed an approved fit-tested N95, etc.
Signage before entering complex still stated visitors were not required to wear a mask & nearly everyone I saw was not wearing one (including many elderly).
I really hope WV doesn’t do the whole mask mandate thing again, and if they do the “non-essential” shutdowns again there will be many more businesses who barely survived the last time who won’t make it this time.
All I know is this “old mule” will be as non-compliant as possible.
In the old days … variants were weaker, not stronger.
I live in the bluest town in the blue state of NJ. We have no mandate yet, but on the online town forum folks are gleefully salivating at the opportunity to get the latest boosters.
Trenton?
East Central Florida-Just a couple sheep here and there wearing masks. They stick out like a sore thumb.
“Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, along with other proven prevention tools – like masking, testing, and staying home when sick [.]”
Still recommending the jab to people, after all the data has come out about how destructive it is to people’s health, is just evil at this point.
And burying the most important “preventive” measure at the end of the list (staying home when sick) is equally disgusting. That’s the only advice that should have ever been given: “If you feel sick, stay home. The End.”
And wash your hands!
Atlanta, GA area here. There are people who never stopped wearing masks since early 2020. For the weasels who compulsively try to hide, it’s a security blanket. For the blue-haired parasites, it’s a tribal flag. So that’s the baseline around here.
Otherwise, there hasn’t been much open talk about the election variant of ‘rona, so I haven’t heard any talk at all about forcing people to mask-up again. Nobody wants to be bothered with that stuff again, regardless of their political ideology. So we’ll see what happens as we approach November.
There are some folks who have never taken them off. Seeing them really makes me chuckle.
This strikes me as a lot of public health departments with time on their hands, waiting for a chance to feel important.
I live in northwest Iowa, not a mask in sight. Funny how the sophisticates in big blue cities look down on us as uneducated hicks when they are the ones following superstitions.
Like Nancy Reagan once said “just say no”, and mean it. Don’t comply, and refuse to shop at any business that is dumb enough to try and force you to.
This is crucial. Although there are ways around the mandate that I used last time, this time we MUST NOT COMPLY. And I am well aware of the sacrifice that will entail for all of us, some more than others.
We are at war. This is a war for the future that our children and grandchildren will live in. I pray to God every day to give me the strength and courage to fight these evil creatures. It will not be easy. I am no superwoman. I am just a human being. But with God all things are possible.
So far not in Bucks County, Pa.. But this is now a blue state with a leftist governor and two jackass senators, so it won’t be long before the orders commence. I suspect that resistance will be stout. We will see.
Right above you in Northampton County. I am waiting to see what the unctuous Josh Shapiro does. When he was the state AG under our former Fuehrer, he was looking for ways to work around the prohibition of mandates and lockdowns.
