We live north of Tampa. No masks here as yet but we live in a retirement community with lots of folks from New York. A lot of them watch CNN. I predict there will be mask- wearing people here in a few weeks/days.
On flight from Boston to Seattle. Probably about 1 in every 8 people were masked. More masks than I notice from the week before. Mostly elderly (tended to be fearful) and young folk (well…).
It’s a math problem NYC graduation rate over the years 50% just makes you wonder what half is running the city.

Also – in Omaha – our waitress told us she recently took her 5yo for a physical at the pediatrician’s office they’ve frequented for over 10 years. He insisted the child get all vaccines, including a Covid vaccine. She refused, saying his school did not require vaccines and she’d sign a waiver etc., but was not getting any vaccines for her child. He then told her she would need a new pediatrician, that he could no longer provide care for her children. A friend of mine who is a practicing pediatrician of many years, said they (physicians) are incentivized to have a required percentage of their patients get vaccinated. He said it’s a common requirement as they are only allowed a certain small percentage of their patients to remain unvaccinated. Totally astounding – no longer patient-centered care.

About two months later, Fauci and other top officials reversed course and issued widespread masking recommendations, regardless of symptoms. When you consider the dilution factor of a few actively infected individuals respiring in the open air (not even taking into the consideration that an actively infected individual probably should be home resting and recuperating), the percentage of the population with prior exposure (subclinical-asymptomatic or clinically relevant-recovered from active infection) to any of the variants of SARS-2 COVID viruses and the percentage of those immunized in the general public at large, the risk factor even from a new variant is minimal at best.
The only argument one could possibly make make is that this variant is more infectious (it is but only slightly) and the greatest risk is those who have the usual comorbidities. In short wearing a mask for these individuals may be of some help to these individuals it is more likely to ease their anxiety more than anything else. For the rest of the generally healthy public I would say the risk is minimal and the chance of re-infection is low at best and the wearing of masks in the general public and open spaces is unnecessary.
At this point immunizing against COVID is like trying to make vaccines against the common cold (another type of coronavirus) is pointless for most people and is more about Big Pharma preying on people’s fears and making money in the process.
It slowed down but never stopped here in CA. LOL you still see a lot of people driving around in their cars alone wearing masks. But of course those are liberals for you.

Dr. Fauci: “There were some studies early on—I don’t know the dates of them—that made the statement that masks were not effective. Schmitt also detailed that in February of 2020, Fauci instructed a colleague to forgo the mask, but then, just a few short months later, pushed for “universal mask mandates.” We don’t call him Flip-Flop Fauci for nothing.
