In the U.S. there is a serious problem with counterfeit cash. All $10, $20, $50 bills are checked with those specialty yellow felt tip pens by cashiers.
Couple of experiences with this particular problem with using cash:

(1) I was behind an elderly gentleman who tried to pay with a bill that came up as counterfeit –police called, store manager involved. Very much doubt the gentleman was running a counterfeit operation in his basement. Could tell the police and manager didn’t think that either, but it was their policy to respond as if it were a potential criminal act.
(2) On a different trip to a store I paid with cash that I had just withdrawn from my bank. A couple of bills failed the felt tip pen test. Thankfully they did not call the police. I immediately returned to my bank with my cash and had them check it.
Right off the bat they said there was no way to prove they had given these exact bills to me. My withdrawal receipt did not identify individual bills, just the total withdrawal amount.
The bank finally agreed to check the bills with their special pen and also with other equipment. My bank declared the bills were authentic, not counterfeit. They thought the cashier’s pen was probably old.
When I asked to redeposit my cash and withdraw different bills they refused. I asked why. Were they uncertain about their authenticity? No, they said absolutely they were authentic. Eventually I was allowed to deposit the bills back into my account.
Has left me less confident about using cash. But I also want to move away from banks and credit cards. So in a quandry about how to proceed.
I buy $200 to $500 gift/cash cards with cash.
I think this is a good way to go.

These stories are hard to believe.
First, where’s proof that counterfeit currency is a “serious problem” in the USA? At 70 yo I’ve never once seen the police called for counterfeit money in any store. I just googled “How serious a problem is counterfeit money in USA” and got zero articles claiming it’s a “serious problem”. Didn’t get any statistics on it, either.
Second, I don’t believe for a NY minute this story about a bank giving someone counterfeit bills. Here’s why.
a) All money is checked for authenticity before the teller hands it to you at the counter. So the story about the banks “pen was probably old” is an obvious lie. When did you ever see a bank teller use a counterfeit pen on cash they’re handing you in a withdrawal? Never seen this in my 70 years on earth.
b) Even if the teller checked the money with the pen, a defective pen would immediately show itself out of chemical detector. Counterfeit pens contain a chemical that reacts with the starch in our currency and leaves a gold colored swipe mark. The same pen leaves a black/purple mark on regular paper. Any teller seeing no swipe mark would’ve got another pen.
ESPECIALLY THIS:
c) The first store called the cops for counterfeit money…but the second store DID NOT CALL THE COPS…but just LET THE COUNTERFEITTER GO SCOTT FREE? Doesn’t sound right at all. When compared to the first claim of cops being called at another store, this claim of no cops called and the poster going back to the bank is hugely suspect!
d) Notice the poster “sunrei” never told us what the bank did after getting the counterfeit money back. Any bank would’ve immediately called the FBI and/or local police. Surely that’d have been worth telling us, wouldn’t it? But “sunrei” never tells us anything like that. And so, a local store called the cops for counterfeit money but the local bank didn’t, not even for TWO counterfeit bills?????
CONCLUSION
This entire “counterfeit” post is itself counterfeit!!!!! It goes against this online community’s distrust of CBDC. As such, the post is intended to support CBDC, support government control over you, and cause you to distrust cash!

I would get cash out directly at your bank and video it. Then, if you have counterfeit, you can confirm it came from your bank.
For 10 years I had a wholesale business that mainly involved cash transactions. My deposits would average 20 to 30 thousand per week in cash. With a couple of MILLION $ in cash over that time only once did I have a 100 bill confiscated by the bank. This was 20 years ago but doubt much has changed. Remember 20 years ago when you could actually have a relationship with people at your bank? No more. I have come to the point in the last 10 years , where I can’t stand these big banks. A lot of retailers in Onondaga county and particularly the city of Syracuse were left high and dry a few years ago when they tried to deposit money only to find it was counterfeit. As a result of the situation, the Secret Service was brought in to train area retailers on how to spot counterfeit money.
If you want to skip Schumer’s comments, there is plenty of other info confirming the impact of the situation on retailers at the time in the above links.
25-30 miles north of Seattle, the local stores inspect every twenty on up with the special pen. Perhaps counterfeit cash is predominant in certain areas? Perhaps some alert goes out from law enforcement to the local stores?

More vendors are refusing cash, and banks are making it more difficult for all concerned to use cash.
We “gas up” in the U.S. as gasoline is approximately 45 cents per litre cheaper, and the closest station is only a ten minute drive for me.
I often fill two 5 gallon containers while at it.
I always use American cash as over the many years we have bought the U.S. $ on “dips.”
If they start refusing cash, we may have to consider a U.S. company card ( there are ways around it)
Staying financially nimble and avoiding “corporate “
as much as possible is doable, but requires effort.
Just this afternoon we bought a brand new “ retro fridge” for a rental suite

None of us (including Neil Oliver) really know what happened to Farage, because he’s the sole source and hasn’t provided evidence an outside party could verify. The bank could have just dropped him for having bad credit. That would also keep other banks from wanting him as a customer. We also don’t know WHAT bank, so we can’t analyze any reasoning for dropping Farage they had.
My wife and are both in our early sixties, we drove across the 49 and into the U.S. twice in 2016 to see President Trump in Washington State.
We are personally aware of many folks that did the same.
We have attended Trucker rally’s with other Canadians.
We spit out Trudeau’s name.

Though I understand why people intend that phrase to be scary, I don’t find it so. I WANT to be less materialistic than I was raised to be. Sure, owning “nothing” is impossible in practice (St. Francis still owned a robe and sandals), but there are many traditions that encourage owning LESS on purpose to promote spiritual growth and individual contentment. In my church’s teachings it’s called “voluntary simplicity”, but there are plenty of other labels for ascetic practices performed in order to get closer to God.
Owning nothing, or at least trying to go in that direction, does become more morally objectionable if it isn’t your choice. But it’s also a normal part of life to have cycles where you alternatively have more or fewer material resources. It’s not a bad thing to at least learn how to make do with less. You’ll probably need that skill at some point in your future.
The choice to own and pursue personal goals is ours alone to make. What we do with our choices, responsibilities and abundance is our choice to make as well. Ideally we all can give in service to God and others, but that does not preclude the value of material things.
I agree that should be everyone’s choice, but sometimes greater forces intervene. People get sick and lose all their money trying to get well. Some are victims of crimes. Racism does exist. Accidents happen. All material aside from basic food, shelter and clothing has value that varies by OUR need for it, and by God’s will for us to have it. You were a magistrate, Justice doesn’t prevail automatically. It sometimes requires assistance.

I’ve always thought, having had the fortuitous opportunity to live in a country not my own for 20 years and thereby acquiring the education I didn’t get here even though I hold a degree from a major university, that most Americans think the world begins on the East/West coast and ends on the opposite one.
I dare say most Americans have absolutely no clue what is happening in Europe…none. Nor any idea that the life strangling plans of the WEF are headed this way in short order.

In prison, green dot numbers (prepaid credit/debit) are/where regularily used to transfer funds in and out of prison. Money could be earned on either side of the wall and transferred thru the number of the card. This could also be done with a simple code.
