Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger announced today that a remote operated underwater vehicle was able to locate the wreckage of the OceanGate tourist sub approximately 1,600 feet from the hull of the titanic. The mini submarine had been missing for four days.
The passengers on the 21-foot sub were British businessman Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son, Suleman, French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, the company that operates the vessel. VIDEO:
CBS NEWS – Five people who were on a sub that went missing during a voyage to the wreckage of the Titanic did not survive, OceanGate, the company that planned the trip, said Thursday as the U.S. Coast Guard said the vessel experienced a “catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber,” and confirmed that the debris found on the sea floor were pieces of the missing sub.
“This is a incredibly unforgiving environment down there on the sea floor and the debris is consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel,” Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger told reporters.
An ROV, or remotely operated vehicle, from a Canadian vessel found the tail cone of the sub about 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic on Thursday morning, Mauger said during a briefing in Boston on Thursday afternoon. He said more debris was found and authorities consulted with experts who determined the debris was consistent with the sub.
“On behalf of the United States Coast Guard and the entire unified command, I offer my deepest condolences to the families,” Mauger said. “I can only imagine what this has been like for them, and I hope that this discovery provides some solace during this difficult time.” (read more)
“Tourist”
-That says pert near everything.
Even though the press attached the moniker ‘tourist’, IMO rightly, OceanGate called the passengers ‘mission specialists’ apparently due to legalities regarding the transport of passengers for hire.
I believe we’ve seen that with the pay to fly space tourism programs as well like Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic. One of the passengers on the Titan was also a space ‘mission specialist’ on Blue Origin. The billionaire adventurer guy.
Their souls were not lost. Their lives were lost
News now coming out that they knew they were dead on Sunday. Question, did the media keep spinning it while USA/NATO blew up the bridge in Crimea?
Shiny object over here…
Bingo
Very little happens energetically in the deep oceans that SOSSUS does not record.
FYI, the process is called confirmation which takes a little time and is a necessity in situations like this before announcing the final outcome. Note, everything that happens is not a conspiracy.
The Operation was a Leftist WOKE Enterprise. Why would anyone look for Normalcy, There.
17-Hand-BOLTED “Escape Hatch”… that could NOT be opened from the INSIDE.
Did NO Submarine Ever.
Ask the Kamakazi Pilots of WWII all about THAT.
Wait, WERE there some Kamakazi Submarines in WWII???????? I don’t remember them….
Even so, the Officers over the Kamakazi operations WELDED the pilots inside.
There were “Kamikaze” subs (so-called “midget subs” 甲標的甲型) used in the attack on Pearl Harbor. Though not intended as a “suicide” mission per se, the chances of being recovered were pretty slim. But the idea that you are going to somehow escape from a deep submergence vehicle sounds like science fiction to me.
The hatch was lightly bolted on the outside since the pressure would hold it closed, and you sure wouldn’t want to open it at that depth!
And oxygen quantity is not the cure-all it was made to be by MSM. It was a factor in a purportedly unknown outcome.
Anyone hearing the term “Carbon Fiber Construction”, KNEW immediately it didn’t last any “HOURS” under WATER.
But since it was all Woke Liberals on Board, who wanted to listen to the MOBS RIOTING for “RESCUE OPERATIONS” for them for the next 10 YRS.
Decrying the hateful Conservatives for refusing to mount $Billions of Rescue operations looking for Real Life Survivors on the ocean floor.
What makes you think carbon fiber composites won’t work in this application?
I heard a carbon fiber-titanium laminate. Control system from a game boy, lighting system from an RV store?
I also heard that this story sucked all the air from the Hunter Biden / Durham revelations.
I further heard that efforts by next of kin to reclaim the $250,000 ticket prices will fail since the passengers experienced “the full
Titanic Experience”.
Actually they did not get the full Titanic experience. Not sure if that’s a joke, but they never got to see it, according to James Cameron, he found out from those in the Deep Dive Submersible community it imploded on descent at 3500 meters. Titanic is on the bottom at 3800 meters. They all knew what it meant when the different controls went out at once, including back ups.
I don’t have to think it won’t work, I know it won’t work. Just ask the rich guys who are now fish chum.
Because the sub owners didn’t get it certified, unlike every single other DSV on the planet. Of course they blame the certification process for “stifling innovation”, while really meaning they know they can’t get certified but want to make the cash anyway.
Over a dozen experts from the DSV community signed a letter to Ocean Gate stating serious concerns with material selection, off the shelf hardware, and lack of testing and certification.
All the above are what makes me think this material will work for a limited period of time…but won’t survive repeated use.
Apparently the clear viewing window was only certified to 4000 feet, not 12,000 feet. WTF?
Yep
So you think they were all Christians? or simply that that their Souls do still exist.
But it is an ancient and still commonly used term in Seamanship.
In Airmanship as well.
Fairly sure spacefarers use the same revered protocol.
My flight instructor used SoB when teaching me to use FAA flight plans.
Souls is often used in both nautical and aviation situations to signify total number of people on board. No confusion about passengers, crew and lap babies that wouldn’t have a ticket.
A part of it might be a holdover and superstition.
“Cameron, who is considered an expert at diving and submersibles, made the remarks during interviews with ABC News and The New York Times after officials announced that they had located the debris of the vessel on the ocean floor and the five passengers on board had all died.
“I’ve been down there many times. I know the [Titanic] wreck site very well,” Cameron said. “I’ve made 33 dives, and I actually calculated that I spent more time on the ship than the captain did back in the day.”
“As a submersible designer myself, I designed and built a sub to go to the deepest place in the ocean – three times deeper than Titanic,” he said. “So, I understand the engineering problems associated with building this type of vehicle and all the safety protocols that you have to go through. Cameron said that deep submergence is a “mature art” and that all submersibles “except this one” undergo certification protocols to make sure the vessels are safe for passengers.”
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2023/06/22/missing-titanic-tourist-sub-suffered-catastrophic-failure-of-pressure-chamber-all-five-souls-lost/?lctg=92247432
Cameron is right, when catestophic loss of life depends upon engineering design, you “over engineer” to compensate for the risk. Thus he designs for “three times deeper than Titanic”.
Rush’s vessel had “real time hull monitoring”, like thats a good thing. A lot of good that will do you under 4,000 psi. “Oh! Our real time monitor says….”.
Rush’s safety philosophy didnt impress impress me either, when he boasts he could bring his vessel “within two inches” of the Titanic. The Titanic is a massive rotting, fragile structure, any portion of which could collapse at any moment. Not with me inside your experiment.
Not only that, he refused to allow deep dive agencies to inspect and certify his vessel, claiming it was built to their standards and it would slow them down and stifle innovation.
Ego.
All red flags in my book.
The pride and arrogance of man is on full display in this story. The weathly men wanted one more thing to boast about. They are self identified rich, adventure junkies. The men who took advantage of the foolish wealthy men were greedy and stupid and believed their own deceptions about the ability and safety of the sub. It cost everyone, including a 19 year old kid, their lives. True case study of the fallen nature of man.
It all stinks of an insurance scam.
How much did this guy owe?
To whom?
Is he worth more dead than alive?
Why deny safety inspections?
Is he worth EVEN MORE — APPEARING to be Dead, than he would be “REALLY” Dead Dead????
Found himself a Swiss Family Robinson Island or a Super-Deep Back-Country Mountain Retreat???
That’s what I thought!!
Why were they down there to begin with?
For fun, and because they could.
It appears they couldn’t.
As a Cover Story for a Convenient Disappearance from any Future Accountability????
And easier to pull off than a Fake Colony on MARS Expedition.
Makes the entire “expedition” all the more suspicious to an absolutely Farcical degree.
A Genuine Hollywood Set Project.
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, by Jules Verne
Yep. Talked to one of my kids who holds dual degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He just laughed at the lack of certification. He’s in the LNG shipping, transfer, re-gas business. They test the crap out of everything, all international standards compliance. But if they have not tested a component pre and post installation to performance standards—and everything is over designed for daily performance requirement. Routinely will hold up delivery of components if there is the slightest deviation from standard in tested performance.
Then, how did that happen?
So for this Mini sub….LIGHTS! CAMERAS …. ROLL!!!
Those weren’t “viewing windows”, those were viewing Screens. Videos rolling instead of Recording Film.
33 dives? Isn’t 33 a really important number to Freemasons/the Illuminati? Just sayin’
In this case, unfortunately I am very cynical. The Navy said they knew the “sub” exploded 4 days ago. This information had to be communicated to the White House as the story started to gain traction. The media jumped on this story, pushed by the White House, to avoid or minimize reporting on the Hunter Biden “sweetheart deal” and Durham’s Congressional testimony to answer and explain the Russia hoax and the lies by the DOJ and FBI.
.
Hmmm. Good theory. I have been wondering why the Navy would have withheld this information. Best I could think of was that they weren’t certain that it was THIS vehicle and slim chance that there was something else, such as a foreign sub in the area. But I like yours better.
.
This is just to get more legs on the story to distract people. The longer the media drags this out, the more you can bet this is a non-story.
Shocked so many people are buying it. Almost 500 comments on a nothing burger. God Lord are we screwed as a nation.
502 comments on a “nothing burger” – counting this one…and yours.
They didn’t want to deal with millions of Woke uneducated people who don’t comprehend the realities of Carbon Fiber Construction at the Bottom of the Ocean, demanding Years, even DECADES of SEARCHING for STRANDED SURVIVORS.
Kind of like letting a spy balloon traverse the USA for days before shooting it down, huh?
What were they hiding that week I wonder?
I think your idea is ridiculous and cruelly insensitive. Is that all everything is, some kind of sinister plot? Do you think it can possibly be just what it appears to be? An accident that could have been, SHOULD HAVE BEEN avoided!
They took a vessel that was not fit for what they wanted to do, and were in too big a hurry, and then things went horribly wrong! The power went out, they lost communication, they started banging hysterically to get someone’s attention, and then the sharp strikes on the body or frame was just what it took for the breach to happen; and in a horror of a fraction of a second . . .
What has happened to your conscience and natural compassion for people, that all you can think of is that?
I feel terrible for those people and their families, but that toy boat coffin pictured above looks like a total piece of sh!t and I wouldn’t have gone to the bottom of Lake Okeechobee in it. Also the Titanic is a tomb. I don’t like graveyards for any reason. Apparently money cannot buy common sense, just like it cannot buy class.
I don’t.
I wouldn’t have gone to the bottom of Lake Okeechobee in it.
My sentiment exactly, had the same thought throughout this “crisis”… Going 2-1/2 miles down in a toy like that makes almost as much sense to me as sex-change surgery.
So both ideas are more than likely true! Yes, this whole fiasco should have been avoided but why if the Navy & WH had the info, why did they keep silent and use up all those assets needlessly if there wasn’t a nefarious reason? We all know by now that nothing our government says can ever be trusted!
… why did they keep silent and use up all those assets needlessly…
Another good point, and yesterday the cost of the “search and rescue” operation ended up running through my head (all due to foolish greed and egotism). It makes too much sense to me that the whole thing was drawn out as a diversion from other news.
Because they are EVIL!
Did they? Or did they just SAY they did.
“banging hysterically to get someone’s attention”
media reports of “banging” came DAYS after the implosion, which likely happened at about 2:45 hours into their descent, coincidng with loss of communications at that time
did any of the reports of banging tie them to that first couple of hours or did the reports infer the banging was about when they were reported?
sorry, 1:45 according to an article quoting US Navy
They were killed instantly when the pos vessel imploded on the descent. The US Navy knew the moment it happened and our government hid the news. They wanted to divert attention from latest FBI whistleblowers and Hunter’s “deal” without any concern over the millions we taxpayers spent on the so-called rescue mission. LOOK! Squirrel
It never had communication, it was designed that way, it was a horribly designed vehicle , extremely unsafe, seven used recycled pipes
If you read in its design t you wouldn’t take it to a 20 foot lake
Maybe it was purposely designed to fail.
Maybe they secretly all got off the vessel before it was blown up and are sipping boat drinks on a far away island with a fat insurance settlement.
I am trying to think of one insurance company that would pay up.
As long as Ceratin Bank accounts were thoughtfully and precociously Pre-liquidated, who would need “insurance”???
Certain “carry-ables” would do nicely.
MY SENTIMENTS ENTIRELY!!!
Indubitably.
An extremely Remote and secluded island, or some such contraptions.
There is a Super Scam in this mess.
A good way to fake your death..any videos of this “toy” going into the water with five passengers?
Michael, I don’t know how you came up with the idea that “they started banging hysterically to get someone’s attention, and then the sharp strikes on the body or frame was just what it took for the breach to happen”. That’s insane. The sub didn’t implode because the crew were banging on frame. Once they lost power & communication it was all over in a flash. Read what the experts said.
All the obvious flaws, including sounding like a high school science project minus robotics, it actually looks like a suicide mission.
Maybe they did, and maybe they just “made a “real Life Movie” Hollywood style.
Yes, I used to be a very devoted fan of Rod Serling. It was a Sign of the Times in the 50’s and 60’s of the 1900’s.
Sounds like Don.Jr nailed it!
yuckena, you don’t think the media also knew 4 day’s ago… they and the wh and the gaylaforces are great deceivers and don’t give a zhzt about people or this Country…
If they didn’t know they aren’t very smart. But we knew that as well.
The death of common sense is killing this country.
Amen.
Think about that and ponder for a while. Go watch some Real Life WWII movies on submarines in difficult deep sea situations.
USS Thresher
SSN-593USS Thresher was the lead boat of her class of nuclear-powered attack submarines in the United States Navy. She was the U.S. Navy’s second submarine to be named after the thresher shark. On 10 April 1963, Thresher sank during deep-diving tests about 350 km east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, killing all 129 crew and shipyard personnel aboard.
The Media knew — when that construction paper toy hit the water. No Doubt about it. Keep playing the Violins for the Passengers, “If That’s All There Is”, Then Let them “Just Keep Dancing”
Unless there was something else more sinister at work….

There is no end to the madness men will decend to when controlled by satan .
Woke madness has infected many.
It is very true the intel agencies drop a bomb of a manufactured story of titanic perportions to hide the truth.
I agree.
Actually they wouldn’t have covered it anyway
They $till have to fill the air though. Ince$$antly. It’s ju$t who they are/what they do, knowing there are any number of fools tuning in all day every day.
The high and mighty these days place themselves above all, even the laws of physics.
I can’t imagine either the owner of the vessel or the passengers not making absolutely sure of its safety, and ALL the necessary certifications taken care of! Just a terrible terrible tragedy, that seems should never have happened.
So very sorry for the family and friends, for their loss.
My deepest sympathy and condolences.
That vessel had ZERO certifications. They didn’t want the “process” slow their development of a tourist bus for underseas bucket list trips by billionaires to view the gravesite of 1,507 people that died when an “unsinkable” ship sank . Yes, I am sorry for all deaths (well, maybe not convicted murderers) but the waiver they signed clearly stated that the vessel was 100% NOT certified and that death was a significant risk, yet the massive egos of the tourists and crew seemingly thought they were too important to die. The millions spent on a “rescue” effort – even though the US Navy knew the vessel imploded in real time but did not disclose that fact until yesterday) will simply come from our tax dollars. Or maybe Biden will EO a third shift for the treasury printing department.
Costs too much money to do all that.
The owner of the submarine was a pompous, elitist, woke, know-it-all who believed that his submarine was inherently perfect and above such petty and trivial things as certifications and basic seaworthiness. His crew was also subpar. He hired and promoted his captain and crew based on woke identity characteristics over merit and content of character.
What does it mean to say “my deepest sympathy and condensed”? This has become a very very popular saying. It’s gotten so popular that it is starting to sound like a slight.
Did you mean to say “condolences”?
Bcz at this moment I am not sure if missed something or not???
They ACTUALLY “MAY have “INTENDED”, but NEVER Actually “Deliberately DID” anything REMOTELY resembling “Safety Measures”, in True Fact.
To THEM, the Transient Thought is better than an Actual Deed,
Why should They deal with a demand to Actually DO… all that “finger lifting”.
How Tawdry and Mundane – so common. Thinking is hard enough work. It’s Intentions that matter.
After all, everyone knows they are all superlative Creatures whose dainty feet never need touch the ground.
They traffic CHILDREN THIS WAY.
RESEARCH IT.
Just ask Ghiselle, she has her sub license.
True.
History likes to repeat itself too. The billionaire aboard the OceanGate Titan was a vocal critic of Central Bank Digital Currencies and supported return to gold/silver backed monetary standard.
I have to admit, i wondered if they were Trump donors.
Like in the plane crash that just happened.
As a retired Coast Guard office who was involved with SAR operations for some years, we do not consider economics against human life, that is why we routinely risk ours in the attempts to save others. We go, regardless. That is our stock in trade. As an old “Mustang” 1965 – 1993, time & technology change, personell change, while our ethos, in either times of peace, or times of conflict do not waver. Just like our brothers and sisters in other forces, we have to go.
Except the Titanic is not off the U.S. coast. Why would the CH even be there? Fishy.
” Why would the CH even be there? ” What do You Mean CH ?
As for the REASON the US COAST GUARD responded; ” my “Time in Service included ALL Of the Oceans and Estuaries that were NAVIGABLE and under Federal Jurisdiction, INCLUDING Those Areas Under INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS OR When Requested by State and Local Authorities.

Wishing I hadn’t clicked that Guardian link, because it led me to groan over the accompanying “true explorers” story… “true” as in the tens of thousands of first “crusaders” incited by the Council of Clermont in 1095 to march off on a fool’s errand, because so many of them were not at all equipped (or organized) to fight the Ottoman Empire. Same with crawling into this toy sub and dropping to the bottom of the sea. And the French knights at Nicopolis (1396) charging into the middle of a humongous Turkish army because they wanted to be first. Suicide.
I empathize with being burned when somebody somewhere could’ve prevented it (and sometimes somebody does try but the right people just don’t listen). Saw or heard some of that in my Air Force career.
Hollywood Staging…
Which is exactly why we should all respect and admire all of our armed forces members as well as those that protect and serve inside the US as police, fire, ems. Thank you sincerely for what you did for my country, Robert. My problem is that the government failed to disclose that the US Navy knew in real time that the vessel imploded on the descent and failed to report publicly until yesterday. It is the corrupt administration that once again didn’t let a crisis go to waste. Another, look, squirrel moment to divert from the latest FBI whistleblowers testimony and Hunter’s “deal” while spending millions on a “rescue” effort at our expense. I lived in Tucson for years. In monsoon season, arroyos that were usually dry beds would became raging rivers. Police would erect barricades and signs to warn drivers NOT to proceed over roads that crossed arroyos. Yet every season, drivers would go around the barricades and be washed away. First responders would come in with helicopters, rescue teams, and do what you said – risk their lives for others, no questions asked. At the time, Tucson wised up – you go around the barricades, ignore the warning sign and then need rescue? We do it because that is what first responders do. BUT we then send them YOU the bill. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. It actually decreased the number of events. That was well over a decade ago and with the current leadership in Tucson (and Arizona) I am sure that the policy has been eliminated as being racist, homophobic, anti-stupid – whatever. I say bill the estates of the tourists and the company (which of course shuttered the firm yesterday trying to avoid litigation). I’d rather see the tax money spent on disabled vets, homeless vets with ptsd, first responders .
I’ve come to the personal conclusion that this country was far less evil and malevolent when we called them pigs and baby-killers. Sad, but possibly true that when you implicitly trust these vast organizations, evil will seep in.
I agree that we should never implicitly trust military, law enforcement, or any other type of organizations. While it’s true that these organizations often have good people within them, it’s inevitable there will also be bad and evil people within them.
Sometimes the evil grows from being just one or a few people into being institution wide evil and corruption.
Recognizing that institutions can and do become corrupt doesn’t necessarily mean that you are inherently against everyone in that institution.
It just means that you are wise enough to acknowledge that bad and evil people exist and that institutions can become corrupt and evil.
Institutions in general should always be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism. Once any institution is blindly trusted by a large percentage of the population, any corruption within it can flourish unchecked.
Granted, and as a military retiree I applaud “we go anyway” regardless of economics and whose fault it was and all that. But it is still a cost that we end up paying. And when some or most of that cost, time spent and sentiment suffered through are in vain, instigated by greed or a lie (ESPECIALLY a political lie or diversion) or some other worse-than-pointless motive, then it is very much time to say something.
Talk about CHILD TRAFFICKING.
THAT IS THE REAL PANDEMIC WORLD WIDE….
WAKE UP PEOPLE.
I cannot imagine being of sound mind and paying thousands of dollars to climb into an a tiny barrel and have the door sealed shut. I get claustrophobic just thinking about it. And from what I have seen there is only the one small window, so you really don’t get a good view of anything.
Meanwhile, how many were shot over the weekend in Chicago?
Or died of fentanyl OD?
There are Erie similarities to what was reported to have happened on this sub and the on titanic.
Just looking at that Rube Goldberg contraption with wires and all kinds things to get snagged on the Titanic or whatever objects might be down in the deep . . .
how can that have passed any kind of safety inspection and how is it that he could charge $250,000 a person boggles my mind . . . why did Stockton Rush go through with that dive when there were possible issues, was the money already spent, what are the finances of OceanGate . . . did Stockton Rush invest in FTX?
This seems to me no better than “shark cage tourism”.
Ginned up story so state and federal governments can enact useless legislation to control these vessels.
You won’t see any legislation to control our border, but within one year you will see legislation to control civilian subs. Mark your calendar.
Interesting posit…. now what do the Communists gain if private submersibles are registered and certified?
When asking that question I was remembering the gun shop owner that was recently raided by IRS and ATF and their library of 4473’s with personal information of local gun owners were seized.
Then I was thinking of who did the underwater demolition of the Nordstream pipeline?
Heh, more rabbit holes. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were spot-on.
They did not pass any inspections. Rush elected not to seek ANY certifications of the vessel, claimed it would slow their development.
DID he go through with it? Who says he did?
So billionaires sign the waiver of liability to take an uncertified underseas “tourist bus” to view the gravesite of 1,507 dead passengers of the Titanic. No scientific mission. Not an exploration of unseen regions. A tourist trip, mark off one more bucket list item. The pos submersible fails, US Navy knows it in real time but doesn’t share. Meanwhile we spend how many millions in the “rescue”? Exactly what does a C6 cost per hour in the air? Poseidon craft per hour? The ships and crews? And why? To bury the latest news on Biden crime family. Who pays? The estates of the billionaire tourists? The company that built the submersible (oops, they shuttered yesterday)? Uh – big surprise!!!!!! We taxpayers foot the bill to keep the spotlight off of the most corrupt administration in US history . SO tired off this shit..
I’m right there with you. The company “shuttered” yesterday? Maybe (or likely) to avoid paying out on the lawsuits.
Those elites don’t give a rat’s rear end about seeing the shipwreck. It’s a ruse to get their hands on an unregulated and unidentifiable vessel to traffic children to and fro. Ghislaine Maxwell and a submarine license for this reason.
Will the whole escapade go down in infamy or be regarded as the future; our ocean is vast, life giving, under appreciated ……..
I told somebody yesterday that she could not depend on the MSM for any crucial details because they were droning on incessantly (as usual), and in order to maintain the pace for 4 days they surely had to MAKE STUFF UP. And it would not surprise me at all to find out that most of it was a lie toward the purpose of diverting from Hunter, Durham’s House testimony, the House censoring Schiffty, the Presbyterian church in SF hosting drag queens — in CHURCH! — with children present, the Rasmussen poll that shows Trump beating Biden even after he was indicted, and all sorts of REAL news. Not that they would’ve covered any of that anyway, but a great number of reasonable people do spend their free time watching the likes of NewsMax and videos on youtube/Rumble/etc.
The submarine story was pure distraction used by the corporate media to distract you from the Biden whistleblower & Durham’s testimony.
Should have hired the 50s white guy…
A bit worn out at this point but a 77 yo white guy, Paul Henri Nargeolet, who also happened to be a widely known and respected submariner and explorer and had dove on Titanic dozens of times *chose* to be a co-pilot on the fateful dive.
No one held a gun to his head. My understanding is he replaced someone who was unable or unwilling to go. If anyone knew the risks he did, as did Stockton Rush since the sub was his project and passion. They went anyway, both well over 50 and white.
Regarding the inference, that youth is reckless and old guys are safer, well look at space. Cast an eye around Hawthorne or Auckland and see who’s hurling spacecraft, some with humans inside, into space. Young people. They’re designing them, they’re building them, they’re operating them. Science and technology are forever young. Nothing new.
I saw it being inspired by Mercury and Gemini and the moon program in the 60’s when young. Even with highly regulated and tested and scrutinized protocols, people still died in the various programs over the decades. That’s the game.
Yes and no. They should have learned from Apollo 1 that they needed to address fire in the cabin as it was a risk. Only once did people die from something that NASA anticipated and that was launching Challenger when the specified operating temperature range for the o-rings was too low. That launch was political. NASA also has some strict distance limits when loading a vehicle with fuel which SpaceX ignored early on and lead to an accident. I don’t recall if anyone died. Space and deep ocean are unforgiving and dangerous environments, there are no second chances. You either prevent accidents or you try to alleviate them through backup systems. The joker running this gig did neither.
Unless this was a Sneaky Diversionary maneuver to escape to some Secret Recluse Hideaway
I think we have too much Pizzagate on the brain. This most likely was just hubris at work and .gov wanting the story in the media instead of the Hunter/Durham duo.
Don’t be so quick to discredit an OLD and Very OFT-Repeated Hollywood Stunt, and in a world of so many Billionaires who want to be Invisible.
Those people never INTENDED to survive such a deep dive on THAT vessel.
They were not NEARLY as serious about what they were doing as 3 yr old little girls having their PRETEND tea parties with their TOY Dishes and a glass of WATER.
“The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of a million is a statistic.”
An estimated 14,000 Ukrainians have died in one week because Washington DC has told them to do an ill advised offensive.
Miss Lindsay wants more dead Russians. More blood and death for these demons.
Yeah and they have known about it since Sunday. But the Biden regime delayed the facts. Using the accident as cover for their own misgivings. Pure evil. They only care about their power. The hell with the families of those in the sub and their feelings. FJB
And apparently without a thought of the families who endured 4 days of agony wondering about the fate of their loved ones on that sub.
This is the mentality of the Biden/Obama administration.
Looks like they modified an old hot water heater I once trashed.
that’s right!
Not sure it was THAT well MADE in the first place.
Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip.
That started ine Sunday morn,
Aboard this tiny ship….
I hate the whole concept of discriminating against people with certain immutable identity characteristics in favor of people with other identity characteristics. This usually results in straight, white, Christian males being discriminated against in favor of everyone else. This mentality judges people based on the identity group they belong to instead of as individuals.
People should only be judged based on their merit and content of character and not their identity characteristics.
It appears that the CEO of OceanGate’s policy of discriminating against “50-year-old white guys” and hiring and promoting people based on whether they belong to politically favored identity groups has resulted in the wreckage of this submarine and the deaths of all aboard.
It’s poetic justice that the CEO was one of the people killed by his wokery. Usually, it’s only innocent third parties who have nothing to do with the woke policies who are killed by them. It’s unfortunate, however, that there were some innocent third parties killed alongside the CEO in this incident.
I have coined a new word, “budlight,” which is Bud Light written as one word with no capitalization. It is used to describe the detrimental results of a woke decision. The wrecking of this submarine and the decline of Anheuser-Busch InBev are both great examples of budlighting at work.
ouch
DEADLY memetry
That depends entirely on his TRUE Ambition, doesn’t it.
“…OceanGate tourist sub…”
One of the many thoughts I’ve had about this Cluster foxtrot was…since this company was starting a Tourism business touting rides to the Titanic…How many other ‘super rich‘ people were already on the waiting list?
The PRC/PLA in joint exercises with Cuba – ON the island of Cuba – was not in the news after the initial report. Shouldn’t THAT have been news as well?
I think the important thing to keep in mind here is the company was young, diverse, and inspirational.
It is sad their lives ended so horribly, but DIE-VERSITY was what counted.
I knew they knew. These people are low.
I am not impressed with the Coast Guard for taking so many days to find this thing and discover what happened. Not. Reassuring. At. All.
Or was there some reason to let this distraction play out in the Media??
In fairness, the Titanic site is hell and gone from any land mass; if memory serves is some 900 miles from the east coast and over 400 miles southeast of Newfoundland. Getting equipment out there happens at 20 miles per hour at best and that’s in good sees and that presumes the equipment is available. It’s very specialized.
What did this incident teach in that regard? I’ll bet the various countries involved, U.S., Britain, France and Canada are what I recall, learned something. If so, good. Deep sea rescues and searches are very rare. They teach lessons.
If not for CTH I wouldn’t have known about the media distraction operation. I was too busy assessing ad hoc and government sources and didn’t notice. Thanks.
No REASON to be impressed with it, likely no single facet of it is true anyway. It’s just the Cover Story for the Truly Dense at Heart.
Instead of 3 Men In a Tub, It was 5 people in a Cardboard Box
The 0ld Wooden Tub was safer than Cardboard. (Carbon Fiber Construction) AAAnd it had 17 STEEL BOLTS on the Escape Hatch, Only could be opened on the OUTSIDE????
Can you SERIOUSLY see a Multimillionaire handing his lowest level crewment the BOLTS and the Lug Wrench and then crawling into that plastic bubble? To be locked in.
This isn’t Mandrake the Magician. It isn’t even Harry Houdini or David Copperfield, or even Mark Wilson
The Coast Guard had to bring in equipment and underwater drones that could handle the depth. There was nothing on site or near that could do it.
YES! I AM that Skeptical. Just call me Sane.
What if NOBODY was REALLY inside the mini-sub when it was actually put into the water, and it was all a fantastic charade so “some Folks” could “Disappear” and expect to never be looked for, ever again, and any “messiness” in their lives, financial or other wise, would NEVER have to be explained, as “some folks found themselves new “Identities”, lifestyles, and mysterious locations. Just Another way of “Disconnecting” Entirely from any Previous life and it’s entanglements and complications, and taking some cushy financial assets along with them, of a more “untraceable nature” than is now normal or readily available.
It IS after all, an extremely OLD and well-used Movie Plotline.
What is it they said was used to construct the m ini-sub, against the Wisdom of the Experts??? “Carbon Fiber”???
“CARBON FIBER COMPOSITES”? Planned, Immediate Deconstruction Technique?????
‘Titanic’ Director James Cameron Points to Flaws in Titan Sub’s Design …1 day ago As a design weakness in the Titan submersible and a possible cautionary sign to its passengers, Mr. Cameron cited its construction with carbon-fiber composites.
Sounds more reasonable to me than the “Official Narrative”….
And operated by Play Station Video Game Control stick….. Such a “Serious” undertaking…..
Of Course, I grew up on Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock movies and TV shows, et al, being a ’50’s child…
Oh, your theory is certainly possible. But, most airplanes have carbon-fiber composite tails, definitely Boeing’s Dreamliner does. Composites are not unsafe, they, like steel, etc. have to be manufactured to specifications for the environment in which they are to be used. They are designed to be very strong and light weight, they are excellent substitutes for steel in some applications, like this submarine. The issue with this sub was the prevalence of visible manufacturing flaws in the material, the lack of certification and the lack of even a single dive to planned depth with only the captain aboard. This company and this submarine were accidents waiting to happen.
Carbon fiber is not the preferred material for compressive loads. Submerged vehicle loads are much different than airborne.
Here is a rather long Q&A video by Scott Manley that discusses some of the issues.
Very unlikely for carbon fiber composites to ever be certified for submersibles of this nature.
It has zero ductility and will progressively degrade and delaminate unseen until it fails.
These are entirely different forces from those seen in aerospace applications.
The hubris driven design utilized here was itself an accident waiting to happen.
THIS level of Hubris is NO ACCIDENT – It IS JUST merely waiting to HAPPEN.
That is why I suspect a Hollywood STUNT.
I don’t think any Airline Tail can be as flimsy for the high speed and OUTSIDE air Pressure and the Deep Dive pressure would be, or the Water Pressure on a Fiber Construction to Dissolve that material, either.
But I do see what you mean – but It’s a calculated risk the people remaining in Office buildings take WITH OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES, and not their own!
Unlike this Billionaire… Who was “going along for the Ride”, supposedly.
Jacques Cousteau would have said that these are nuts.
Noisettes!
Our government knew Sunday or earlier that the sub imploded: https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/22/us/submersible-titanic-oceangate-search-thursday/index.html
How strange, our government lied and continued to give family members of the sub hope for days! Hm, was this to deflect from information coming out about Hunter Biden and the Durham report?
Last time I believed what ‘MAINSTREAM MEDIA’ fed the public ie “news”
was NEVER.
IT’S ALL ABOUT CHILD TRAFFICKING, SOMETHING NO ONE IS SHINING A LIGHT ON.
WHY?
😭
So the Navy heard a big bang about the same time the communications ceased from the Titan. What do you tell the families? We heard a big noise about the same time and we think they are all gone? If you were related to one of those men, would you accept that as final? Or would you continue to believe that could have been a coincidence and they should keep looking until some proof, one way or another could be found? The Coast Guard and all the other maritime people did the right thing continuing to search.
After 911, there were suicides in the double digits by people related to some of those killed in the Twin Towers. Sudden and unanticipated death of someone important to oneself is a horrific blow. The loved ones and business partners of the lost men were given some breathing space (by the days spent searching) to begin to come to terms with the irretrievable loss they now face, by the length of the search. Not to mentioned comforted by the knowledge that what could be done was being done.
Bill Whittle made an important point in a video discussion on the cost of the search saying it showed a nobility of character of all who participated. He’s right. It was un-coerced action united in the benevolent desire to rescue 5 men if they could be rescued, or to recover what they could if no rescue were possible. The cost and who they were in the social milieu was irrelevant, they were human beings. Individual human life is the highest value and those men on the Titan were in trouble. Could it be done was all that mattered.
Can you imagine if the Navy had said what they heard was definitely the sub imploding and called off any search only to find out later that they were wrong, and they could have been saved?
They also said that they were able to direct the rescue crews to the area which helped them find the wreckage.
The nature of the search should have shifted upon notification of the implosion’s sonic signature.
The search continued in an ever increasing intensity of resources largely inappropriate for seeking remnants of a surely doomed submersible.
I would like to hope that secrecy regarding military surveillance capability alone drove the continuation of the search without concession to the certain futility of the task, but there assuredly are dark forces more than willing to manipulate the attention of the public to dilute attention to their schemes.
Most military services have a protocol for who, how and when relatives are notified. There are reasons for those protocols. The public is usually the last to be informed.
I remember the Chili mine collapse with 33 miners trapped and not found for over 2 weeks and the rescue took over 2 months. Very little on-line and minor mentions on the news. Same with the boys Soccer team stuck in the cave in Thailand a couple of years ago. Again very little on the news.
This stinks. The amount of news coverage certainly looks as if it’s trying to take away from something else. Hey look there is a squirrel!
Carbon Fiber has tensile strength but no compression strength . It’s my understanding the titanium shell was then laminated with carbon fiber which is susceptible to water impregnation especially under great pressure and it’s a conductor of electricity making the metals it adheres to with resin susceptible to galvanic corrosion , electrolysis weakening the metals should stray currents exist .
Like rust it never sleeps !
I would hope the material specifications were carefully considered like many 50 plus year old white guys were criticized about not being DEI/WOKE like the guy that was fired for announcing the craft had serious safety issues .
He is alive and well
The end caps were titanium, the tube portion was entirely carbon fiber composite.
The end caps would have been attached using some manner of inserts into the tube material.
There would be no composite overlaying titanium, but the composite would indeed suffer delamination and degradation under the conditions it was repeatedly exposed to without so much as a single non-destructive inspection process to ascertain it’s seaworthiness.
Again, at 5:30 there’s a discussion of carbon composite materials for submersibles with James Cameron
Interviewer:
— It’s a carbon composite, you can tell us more about that actually means … is it designed for deep underwater pressure?
James Cameron:
— it’s completely inappropriate for a vessel that sees external pressure
— for something that’s seeing external pressure, all of the advantages of composite materials go away and all the disadvantages come into play
— so if you use a uniform material like steel or titanium or ceramic or acrylic, you can do computer modeling with a high degree of accuracy and confidence
— the second you start doing carbon composite you’re introducing 2 materials that are in contact with each other, the filament itself and then the epoxy matrix that it sits within, and at that point you have degradation failure
— so we always understood that this was the wrong material for submersible hulls because – with each pressure cycle – you can have progressive damage
— because you may have a number of successful dives … and then have it fail later
— even in my own sub which had a steel hull …. I knew that if I dove several, two or three times, it was probably good to go
— because you can cycle steel hundreds of times, even thousands of times
— but that’s not the case for composite
— but these are known things, they are known within the engineering community
I also doubt that the interface between the titanium end caps and the carbon composite tube could cope with the differing response to pressure of the radically dissimilar materials.
The attachment system itself had to compromise the strength of the tube.
Seems to me someone simply wanted to be a smarty pants and show the old guys how it’s done.
Hunter Biden has bravely announced that he and Joe will “pick up the baton of exploration” that Hamish Harding left on the ocean floor. The Bidens will embark on a semi- secret mission (no cameras) to explore the Titanic wreckage AND The Nordstream 2 pipeline in the Biden’s vintage Corvette Stingray that will be caulked and sealed with extra strength Silicone Flex Seal by a team of very diverse and inspiring hookers, trans athletes, teacher’s union executives and Chinese businessmen. Again…..no cameras allowed and all current a future charges against them will permanently expire should the unthinkable happen to the Caulked Corvette Stingray.
bravo, Deep, well done
would those be trans-axle trans-athletes?
For those thinking that a jerryrigged or a sophisticated sub could overcome the pressure at intense ocean depths, their knowledge is non-existent.
Had they never heard of the bends? Shallow water by comparison, & science dictates the principles of pressure: It increases the deeper you go.
Reverse towards space, & lack of pressure induces the opposite & the expected result.
The Titanic has already been explored & photographed for history.
Let it rest as the graveyard it is.
Same thing happened when summiting Everest became a “thing”. Expeditions started hauling along people with minimal mountaineering experience and none at death zone” altitudes. But they paid a lot of money so the guides had to haul them up or no paycheck. And we saw how that ended up.
