Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger announced today that a remote operated underwater vehicle was able to locate the wreckage of the OceanGate tourist sub approximately 1,600 feet from the hull of the titanic. The mini submarine had been missing for four days.
The passengers on the 21-foot sub were British businessman Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son, Suleman, French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, the company that operates the vessel. VIDEO:
CBS NEWS – Five people who were on a sub that went missing during a voyage to the wreckage of the Titanic did not survive, OceanGate, the company that planned the trip, said Thursday as the U.S. Coast Guard said the vessel experienced a “catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber,” and confirmed that the debris found on the sea floor were pieces of the missing sub.
“This is a incredibly unforgiving environment down there on the sea floor and the debris is consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel,” Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger told reporters.
An ROV, or remotely operated vehicle, from a Canadian vessel found the tail cone of the sub about 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic on Thursday morning, Mauger said during a briefing in Boston on Thursday afternoon. He said more debris was found and authorities consulted with experts who determined the debris was consistent with the sub.
“On behalf of the United States Coast Guard and the entire unified command, I offer my deepest condolences to the families,” Mauger said. “I can only imagine what this has been like for them, and I hope that this discovery provides some solace during this difficult time.” (read more)
Wouldnt be surprised if this was all just another hoax. At least there doesnt appear any aliens were involved.
Why do all of the most recent scandals end with “-gate”? It’s right in the name! OceanGate! Now I’m having suspicions about my hard drive… it’s a Seagate!
haha, yeah thats right.
Arguably media reported scandals (psyops, really) are going to modeled after the most famous of them all.
Old hat, for managing public perceptions.
Let’s MitiGate!

Im still trying to understand how Branden is still in the WH
MP: O/T?
Why yes it is Over Target. thanks for noticing.
easily distracted
Because we have a group of feckless puzzies in Congress?
installed not by accident.
It’s not hard to understand why he’s still there. Brandon has a “D” beside his name and the GOP is nothing but empty words. End of story.

…and he didn’t
I dont think he ever will need it.
Justice is only as fair as the people require it to be. Apparently the US is satisfied with it as is. And that creates the vacuum of catastrophic consequences. If we don’t make it happen, God will.
The uniparty hasn’t decided it’s time to get rid of him yet.
Read all about Henry Zhao (the Chinaman who got strongarmed by Hunter and Joey) in the Biden Laptop Report. Wonderful job Mr. Ziegler!

Hence, the Navy heard the implosion days ago but were not given permission to disclose until today- during IRS WB hearing…
I wonder why? And who could’ve wanted that to be held until a strategic time?
The leader of the search and rescue team was notified immediately. They decided to continue the search because the Navy classified the detection as not 100% certain. The system that detected the implosion is highly classified and they wanted to minimize public query levels (that would have been sky-high if the wreckage had not yet been found.
I have no problem with the way the information was released.
Yes, and Covid originated in a wet market. Masks work. Trump Russia. Weapons of mass destruction.
The detection system is highly classified so disclose it now? Not when they hear it?
And submarines and surface ships can detect the implosion on technologies that date back to the 80’s.
There was no reason to wait. None.
But yeah…
Thanks!
Yep. Perfect timing to deflect from say, WH refusing to release Wuhan info. Or the Hunter story. Or Schiff censure. Or any number of other current scandals.

FDEI & Woke Ideology
Thank you. We learn every day.
Yes, that’s what I’ve been thinking.
Epstein’s little black book of clients deserves a piece of this cartoon.
Very expensive lesson… Prayers for the Families. Some things are not meant to be tested.
Yes, RIP and may God give peace to their families. At least they died fast and didn’t have to suffer the terror of a slow death.
In all honesty … I am having trouble ginning up any compassion for the FOOLS who risked their lives with this BOGUS company and their cobbled-together contraption. Sorry
I don’t feel much pity for the CEO of the company, but I do for the families.
That sub’s time was up. Pushed the envelope one time too many.
Sounds like the owner cut quite a few corners. Last pressure test for depth, when did that occur?
On Sunday. It failed.
Only the Father knows the time
hey, at least the pilots were “inspiring”
$250,000 for a short-lived thrill to a cemetery. The window was so tiny and only black during their journey. I fail to understand such people.
And the 19 year old son had yet to live out his life. What a waste!
In all honesty I do too. A bunch of million and billionaires who were so bored looking for another high. Maybe this can serve as a learning experience in the oceanic sciences, one would at least hope so.
You are not alone.
They used the mRNA test protocol.
Use it first. Test after you do, if you can.
It’s like passing a bill to see what is in it.
🙏
I’m so impressed w/ our coastguard for finding the debris. May the men rip and God comfort their families.
I’d like to see proof.
Like Bin Laden.
Yes, at this point, I need proof and evidence to believe anything from the fake media.
True. We can’t believe anything anymore. What I perfect story if some rich people wanted to disappear for whatever reasons.
BCZ they could still be down there waiting to be rescued, treading water at the bottom of the sea….
The rover was apparently from a Canadian ship.
the rest of the coast guard is sailing through the strait of Taiwan.
you know, because… thats where the border of the former republic needs protecting, I think….
I hope the lack of enough oxygen caused them to fall asleep before the sub imploded.
In an implosion at 400 atmospheres, they would have gone from sentient conversation to dead in a millisecond.
No suffering whatsoever.
I would prefer that to gradually suffocating over 24-96 hours.
Most likely they never knew they were in any trouble. At that depth, the outside pressure is about 5500 psi. When the hull was compromised, the implosion would have been instantaneous and they would have been dead in a fraction of a second. The implosion most likely occurred when they initially lost contact at the beginning.
Agreed, likely long gone.
Curious though if their vaunted sensors to detect impending failure of their carbon fiber pressure vessel provided any warning at all before it shattered, and if they were able to initiate any attempt to resurface.
I heard that they messaged to the surface that they had to ‘drop some ballast’. So, they knew they had to ascend, for whatever reason, is my understanding. Probably rivets started popping? (Just speculating). Then there was a sudden impulse of noise heard by passive sonar on mother ship. YET, SeaGate decided to not call for help until the nominal time they were expected back.
Dropping ballast unexpectedly is surely a bad sign, that noise is much worse, where did you read that? Would like to check it out.
They had sensors embedded in the walls of the carbon fiber pressure vessel to listen for signs of failure, I would suspect if they signaled dropping ballast it was due to a signal from that system, though simple hearing is not out of the question.
I heard that on the WFLA Livestream on YouTube, they had some expert insider on (yes, a white male in his 50s) who mentioned all those factoids (which I hadn’t heard before either).
I saw a YT video that was here say—somebody inside the company/recovery reported but unverified—- that the sub was descending too fast and they said so to the mother ship and that they were going to drop ballast so lighten up so they wouldn’t descend as fast. They it went silent.
Catastrophic failure. Catastrophe Theory explains it. One good example is a long straight pole, firmly inbedded at the bottom and slowly loaded at the top.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catastrophe_theory
Their lungs would have collapsed instantly, among other things that would happen. Death would have been extremely quick.
In fact, with 400 atmospheres of pressure compressing the air inside, that air would have reached incandescence temperatures (around 1200 F+) in less than a millisecond.
It sounds odd, I know, but there are unlikely to be any “remains”, due to that temperature.
clear ether
eon
I disagree. It’s not the temperature, it’s the heat content. You can’t move a lot of heat in a millisecond. And folks, don’t worry about lungs collapsing. The bigger collapse is the skull, which would have been shrunk to the size of a pea in that same millisecond. If they find remains, they won’t be pretty.
Some one today on the radio mentioned that the time the thought takes to form is longer than the time involved for the sudden destructive crushing damage…something like 4 nano seconds to think in the brain but only two nano seconds for the implosion of massive psi to do its deed, crushing bones, organs, etc….
The little mini sub was alleged to have been made from parts readily available in hardware stores…
I have mixed feelings…but am sad they could not have been saved. It is ironic…rich people…tempting fate…making a tourist trip out of a ‘tomb’ on the bottom of the ocean. Well prayers for all…
That pilgrimage will be finished now.
Based on when the Navy said they detected the implosion, it looks like the implosion happened on Sunday during the sub’s descent, about the time when they lost contact with the surface ship . The worry about oxygen assumed (falsely it turns out) that they had been trapped inside the sub these last days, which they weren’t.
Accoding to what we’ve been told, death was instantaneous. If they could not be saved, at least they did not suffer for days.
Maybe not a smart thing to do or a smart way to do it, but I respect the curiosity of those lost souls. The ocean is a vast frontier.
We need adventurers. We need people to push the limits in all frontiers, the ocean, space, intellectual pursuits, everything. And, we need things not to change, like family and Faith, so that these adventurers can come home, rest, and fellowship.
May G-d bless these souls.
We lost so much brain power in that little sub. RIP.
While they may have had brain power/book smarts, they certainly lacked an abundance of common sense and street smarts to embark on this extremely risky mission.
You can’t be serious!
These weren’t adventurers. They were wealthy gawkers.
Agreed. No respect for the dead.
There needs to be a beautiful memorial created on the surface where Titanic went down.
People can come and pay their respects not gawp.
it’s prurient.
Titanic is legally treated as a grave site. It is not legal to take anything from it.
It is also not legal to “land” a submersible on it, and there are a lot of very good reasons that it would be stupid to even try.
clear ether

Yeah, this incident is sort of like being rear-ended by an 18-wheeler when you stop in the middle of the interstate to rubber-neck a fatal school-bus crash.
Rubber-necking gawkers. So sorry.
I want to see their pics outside the sub before the trip all smiling with the captain.
one assumes it was an “inspiring” captain, not one of those cis white males….
An ideal way to fake your death.
Yup!
TOTALLY! the only Reasonable Conclusion.
When one dies, the spirit leaves the body. But what happens to the spirit when in deep underwater? Does it stay down there or does it manage to break through to the surface? I think it remains in the deep ocean.
It’s not a physical, tangible thing so those laws don’t apply. It’s not a gas or a liquid or a solid. I think you’ve read one too many goofy sea poems.
No, it does NOT remain in Earthly Realms, it is Free to go to the Abode of the Master it chose in it’s Mortal life. Chosen Deliberately and Willfully.
The Spirit will go to it’s Eternal Home. The Earth is NOT eternal and has no hold on Eternal Things.
Wealthy gawkers that wanted bragging rights.
Or a Tall Tale that would likely cut off all Search Parties. So the Actors could leave the set and go to some Deeply Secret Hide-Away, far from Prying IRS agents and the Globalist Dictators, Some Idyllic little Garden Grove, no doubt….
Agree, the world needs those that push the norms. I have to admire their spirit.
Joe and Hunter Biden, well all Democrats really, are pushing the norms. I don’t admire their spirit, or hubris.
The people at J6 pushed the norms. I admire them also.
The People didn’t push the norms – the DC cops and Politicians did THAT. It was a FRAME-UP!
The crowds didn’t even RIOT as they were accused of doing. They let the DC Cops herd them straight into a pre-planned SET-UP! Like Blind-Sided Sheep to the Slaughter.
Actually, corruption in congress is quite the norm.
What’s adventurous about spending 1/4 million to watch (already seen wreckage) on a monitor screen???? There was no knowledge gain, or unknown challenge here. This was to alleviate boredom and gain publicity for the sketchy owner of the company. I feel for the 19 yr old who was influenced to waste his life.
Hamish Harding also flew to space on Blue Origin.
In researching the history of the hull I found out a similar one had been designed for Graham Hawkes almost 20 years ago but Hawkes died in a plane crash and the project apparently died with him. Stockton Rush got the idea for Titan from Hawke’s project and the same company built the Titan hull, Spencer Composites.
There was a viewport at the front end of the hull, in one of the titanium end bells and that in itself was a point of contention as the manufacturer wouldn’t certify it to the depth Rush wanted for the sub and he apparently wouldn’t pay for one certified to that depth.
However, the hull had made many successful dives over the last three years commercially, plus testing before that. This one, nope, no go.
Why go look at the Grand Canyon, or Mt. Rushmore? There are plenty of pictures of them.
I have been to both those places, I wasn’t locked inside w/no way out.
It is important that those who are trying to be trailblazers must be willing to learn from those who tried and succeeded and failed before before them.
This CEO purposely rejected the counsel and knowledge of white men over 50 and those who had vast amounts of knowledge on submarines.
His hubris and arrogance equals the WEF Globalists who are remaking our world in what THEY want instead of what actually has proven to be successful.
It’s the same mindset just applied to different endeavors.
I am sorry for the families. One can no longer trust that people possess the same code of ethics that builders and thinkers did 60 years ago.
This new generation is full of corner cutters.
We’ve been exploring the deep oceans with ROVs for decades. Remember, that was how Robert Ballard found the Titanic to begin with.
The U.S. Navy gave up on manned deep-ocean operations after they nearly got men killed several times in the continental shelf level Sealab program. Even Cousteau threw in the towel on manned operations in the 1980s.
ROVs are to undersea exploration as unmanned satellites and space probes are to space exploration. If a machine can do it, there’s no point in sending a man, and lot of very good points as to why you shouldn’t.

I am a certified wimp.
The ocean is gorgeous, yet unforgiving. I don’t have flippers or scales. Terra firma is fine with me.
Sad for those brave souls.
Curiosity? They wanted to visit a tragic gravesite for the bragging rights. No way were they going to come back to their social sphere and not talk about their “amazing” adventure.
So is the Sound Stage for Movie Stunts.
A tragic end…but, unfortunately, not a surprising one given what’s been said about this company and this contraption they entrusted their lives with.
were their SOULS lost? Hmmm…..
I’ve always thought that is weird when we say “lost their life or passing away”
I know what you mean Sanjac.
It sounds like some one just misplaced their life like they misplace their car keys and will find it if they keep looking.
Technically, no. Their souls will live on in eternity as will all of ours… and hopefully in Heaven and joy beyond our imagination.
Only if they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Souls is the term long used in sea faring and aerospace vernacular.
It conveys a proper sense of somber respect for what was lost.
A worthy tradition.
Am reminded of the old homes in coastal areas, that had the old fashioned widows walk on the roof…where family would go up and walk and wait, hoping to catch a glimpse of a loved one’s ship on the horizon…..
Widow’s walk, sad.
Some also called them Captain’s Walk, as well.
The airlines still report the number of boarding passengers as the number of souls on board.
When I went to NYC to see the 9/11 site I crossed over a block and was hit like a brick over the head w/feeling the souls lost. I had no clue where I was, other than we were heading the right direction on foot. Once we hit the zone my eyes teared up, throat swelled, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t swallow, hands went numb, chills down the spine, lost my gait, I knew I was still walking but couldn’t feel it. When we left the site and got out of the area, I went back to normal.
I have had numerous experiences like that, but none as strong as the one at Ground Zero. The souls don’t let us forget them.
I guess God can’t get at their souls a mile underwater … but that is getting close to …
Hell’s Gate?
I’ve read where the soul being ripped from the body in a sudden violent accident like this is a terrible thing. The soul is disoriented, terrified and lost until it’s wrapped in the wings of an angel and carried Home.
Why could The One True LORD God NOT reach there if they belong to Him, since He created the Place???
Strange presumption.

Am I the only one who thinks this story feels like the balloon story that traversed the entire US a couple of months ago with OTT media coverage?
How do we know these stories are REAL?
If you believe what sages and gurus say, this 3D world is all an illusion.
Row row row your boat,
Gently down stream,
Merrily merrily merrily
Life is but a dream
5 dead people makes it real.
… and a whistleblower with first hand knowledge.
Those are easy to contrive.
If you no longer believe anything that is published, how does that impact your shopping? Your plans for family get-togethers? (You can’t possibly be sure of which roads are open today)
How do you know Cincinnati is still there? Or Oklahoma City?
The medicine in your bathroom cabinet is probably toxic. How do you dare take it? Are you related to St. Greta?
Being a professional and persistent skeptic can perhaps be a fun parlor game, but it starts looking silly before long. Makes me think somebody’s just looking for some attention.
I think Joke Biden is contrived. I heard he died four months ago, when he fell often the balcony of the White House.
The reason Hunter has been given such a light sentence is because he’s going to be sworn in next Tuesday as POTUS. He’s been sleeping with Kamala and they were looking for ways to eliminate the commute. Jill will move to Atlanta, and Kamala will become Hunter’s VP.
Being a professional and persistent skeptic can perhaps be a fun parlor game, but it starts looking silly before long. Makes me think somebody’s just looking for some attention.
Well done, and much appreciated, that game is rather tiresome to me.
I agree with the point you are making. However, in the days in which we are living, the stuff you made up out of thin air may be next week’s news.
the stuff you made up out of thin air may be next week’s news…..and acknowledging that that is so (which I do) does not in any way require me to reject every bit of information that comes my way to keep proving THAT point
One of Rush Hudson Limbaugh’s great skills was the ability to illustrate absurdity by being absurd. I miss him.
Where is your proof this was NOT just a Hollywood STUNT??? You only have the Mainstream Press’s Word for it.
It’s real simple, because the idiot CEO that was so anti white 50 year old white male, got pancaked also. The left would NEVER put out a story that makes them look bad. Luckily for us, (not those poor rich people), they F up so much due to their DEI it ends up coming to the forefront.
The ceo of this company enjoyed flaunting safety as a practice. If it involved white men over 49, he wanted no part of it. Even if it meant not having his intestines come out his ears.
The only person I feel bad for is the kid. But at the end of the day, for all I know, that super rich kid tormented kids beneath his station. WHICH is NOT uncommon in that part of the world.
Not a great way to go, but carpe diem, I suppose.
Yea, I’m the bad guy.
May I join you?
250k on a whim. Most people don’t make that kind of money in two lifetimes.
I was in Colorado once and watched the end of a road rally as the drivers came in at Beaver Creek….just for finishing, they got their particiation trophy—a bottle of Dom Perignon. Their little toys, cost over 100k, 25 years ago…super rich and bored adults.
Look at Gates and Soros…they are so filthy rich, they truly believe they are so invincible they can arrogantly tell us how to live our lives.
F Scott Firzgerald wrote about the “careless rich” who go around “smashing things and creatures up,” then ” retreat back into their money or vast carelessness” and then “let other people clean up their mess.”
The Great Gatsby
Local and regional dirt track racing drivers are brilliant mechanics and a blast to watch.
Kinda bizarre that, if Stockton Rush hated over 50 white guys, he’d make a 77 year old white guy his copilot on this three hour tour.
could the billionaires have secretly transferred vessels and gone into hiding just before sending the empty sub to it’s demise?
anyways, R.I.P.
Again, I ask…do we have unaltered video footage of them boarding the big boat and then later the little sub?
WAY more Easily than getting non-suicidal people to climb into that Contraption! And For a Free Trip to a Real Swiss Family Robinson Island Retreat! You betcha…
Question …….. everything.
Yup!! There have been too many lies for too many decades for me to simply believe anything from the corporate media. Most of what they tell us are lies and propaganda. Our entire history is basically just agreed upon lies.
Good point…is there any footage of the people boarding that contraption? Or its launch off of the bigger vessel? The Rear Admiral walked away during the last question about recovering the bodies. Setting up for the weekend news cycle?
My son, ever the conspiracy theorist….thinks they were looking for a missing nuke….
Well, we know we won’t hear from Alex Jones….but am sure there will be those speculating about the people not being deceased.
At the end of the day, there seems to be five people not sitting down to dinner with their families. Prayers for the families and the lost at sea. And surely this will be the start of a conspiracy of the Titanic and those associated with it…one way or another…being cursed? Very sad.
After being hit with several tons of water pressure, their bodies wouldn’t be recognizable. I think the Rear Admiral didn’t want to explain that that’s why they couldn’t recover the bodies. If he’d gone into detail, he would have put distressing pictures into people’s minds.
If the Titan collapsed 1.5 miles down, then the water pressure was about 1.5 tons per square inch. A man has about 3,000 square inches in his body. So each man in the Titan was hit by about 1.5 tons * 3,000 = 4,500 tons of pressure.
If I were hit by a 4,500 ton building, then rescuers wouldn’t be able to recover anything for a funeral for me. I guess the Rear Admiral didn’t want to go into that detail, in a public setting.
As you say, it’s very sad, especially for the families. “Prayers for the families and the lost at sea.” Yes, definitely.
I’m just glad that the five men in the Titan didn’t have any time to suffer, after getting hit with all of that pressure.
Not a nice way to go, but hopefully the pressure knocked them out quickly and no suffering.. Well.. everyone except the CEO of that company. I kind of hope he was awake for it..
Let’s us not be mean to these lost souls, including the unwise CEO.
I was thinking of all the other souls on the topside ship that were waiting their dive turn since the sub was scheduled for multiple dives as it had been on past expeditions. Imagine being one of those and going there for the grace of God go I…
I’ve posted on other forums about this but frankly was a bit shocked at the cynacism and vitriol encountered here, demonstrably a very Christian, God-fearing group.
I get the skepticism part, I do, BTDT for decades, but my gut said, no, this isn’t the time for that. After nearly seven of those, I’ve learned to trust it.
Yeah. Let tons of people, ADULTS for the MOST PART, keep speculating that at the bottom of the ocean are 5 SURVIVORS waiting still to be RESCUED.
That is a harmless hope to let them cling to. Delusionally.
They were reduced to the size of a golf ball before the sound or light could reach their brains (nerve impulses would have been able to travel about two inches). They felt nothing. The light just went out.
Not a bad way to go, actually.
Results of DEI!
Get woke, get imploded!
Inspirational implosion.
Yeah, they were awake when their heads got crushed like grapes
Ironic that Stockton Rush’s folly was located by a team of White men.
The CEO traded in safety for image.
OR a Hollywood style Stunt Set for a Great Adventure on an Island Far Away from Globalist Tax Grabbers.
The thing looked like a crude bathtub and external fuel tank combined and without a tether there is not enough money in the world for me to step into it.
I was wondering about the screen door?
Even to be considered inspirational?
Plus it looked like there were ten million different ways it could get hooked on something down there.
important ideas from a James Cameron👇
This comment is not directed to ‘I hear you now’. What irritates me is that James Cameron, who is a director and made the movie Titanic, is asked his opinion on this. Should we be asking the captain of a sub, instead? I hate Hollywood and to have a Hollywooden head speak about this is maddening. Who the hell is he? He is just a director.
This is like asking Tom Cruise about FBI treasonous espionage because one of his Mission Impossible films had a treasonous home IC plot, as well. It makes no sense other generates clicks.
Cameron is one of the world’s foremost experts on Titanic. He has spent decades studying the ship, the sinking, and the wreck. It is not only understandable but natural for him to be a part of the discussion.
And I say that as someone who does not like him.
Didn’t Cameron make several trips down to the wreck? In a Russian-made sub? I imagine he knows way more than you’re giving him credit for.
Good points all, I must admit. I rather hear from a Captain of a sub or an engineer of one of these bathtubs. But, I must concede to these rebuttals.
The old Navy submariners wife, says, yes, ask a sub captain…! Even if he is white and old.
James Cameron also made a dive in a pressure vessel to the deepest spot in the earth’s oceans, Marianas trench (approx. 35,700 feet and 3 times the pressure of the Titanic depth), and lived to tell about it. His voyage was extensively covered at the time.
Cameron designed deep submersibles, has been to the Titanic many times and into the Mariana Trench, which is three times deeper than the Titanic. He knows what he’s talking about.
No, it is like asking a Professional Producer of Amazing STUNTS to comment on a Glaringly Obvious Hollywood STYLE STUNT trying to be passed off as Real Life!
How does he know that? Was he there?
He was 20+ years ago.
Why does he not mention the USS Thresher in 1964?
April 10, 1963… Not to be tacky, honestly.
Yes, James’ commentary was critical yet based in experience, fact, and compassion. I found it a good overview. If anyone knew the risks of the deep ocean, he and Robert (Ballard) would.
And the Navy, who Bob Ballard was working for. Also the Russians, who took James Cameron to Titanic.
Cameron went to the Titanic many times on Russian submersibles.
Guess Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGat, Couldn’t handle the pressure – but I digress🥴🥴🥴🥴 to soon?
He was in too deep.
Catchy
Very sad for the families of these people who perished.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12219265/Stockton-Rush-said-didnt-hire-50-year-old-white-guys-NOT-inspirational.html
‘When I started the business, one of the things you’ll find, there are other sub-operators out there, but they typically have gentlemen who are ex-military submariners and they — you’ll see a whole bunch of 50-year-old white guys,’ he said.
‘I wanted our team to be younger to be inspirational, and I’m not going to inspire a 16 year old to go pursue marine technology, but a 25 year old, you know, who’s a sub pilot or a platform operator or one of our techs can be inspirational.
‘So we’ve really tried to get very intelligent, motivated, younger individuals involved because we’re doing things that are completely new.’
Apollo vs Dionysus . . .
Here is a link to “OceanGate” and it includes a lengthy biography of Stockton Rush and a lengthy history of OceanGate. Rush seems more arrogant after reading this article? I am wondering if Rush was more interested in surrounding himself with women for some nefarious reason? I saw a photo of 5 of his employees (pilots?) and not an inspirational young MAN among them? Could just be a coincidence.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OceanGate
The 50 year old ex-military white guys are the most experienced and knowledgeable!! His incompetent diversity hires just got 5 people killed, including him!
Imagine choosing a neurosurgeon based on skin color and sexual preference. That’s the position this arrogant SOB took with his customers’ lives.
Sadly they are lowering MCAT score requirements so it’s coming.
I wonder if Captain Sully’s Miracle On The Hudson was an inspiration to Stockton Rush ?
I wonder if the video game console used to control the sub was all part of inspiring young people?
We’ve seen Elon Musk apply that philosophy to both electric vehicles and space. SpaceX is a prime example of cutting edge technology blended with shockingly young minds. I say that as an old white guy who worked his life in industry. Getting old and become a relic is part of life. We ain’t dead yet though, until we are. 🙂
I’d put my life in the hands of someone with more experience over “inspirational” any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Jusssayin.
I’d at least hire one of the 50 year old white guys that had a command to consult on safety, and seriously consider what they told me. You know, guys that have spent year underwater with a nuclear reactor tend to take safety seriously.
Seriously.
A diversity of competence strikes again!
Three out of the five were billionaires, so by today’s standards, they accomplished in life the most important thing.
Ironically one of the pilots who died was one of the most experienced undersea mariners on the planet, and white, and 77 years old. If desired, one can read about his adventures. His name is Paul-Henri Nargeolet. He may now rest in peace.
If they perished.
There is a threshold to paranoia, below which it’s just rational caution, but above which is lunacy. You are sticking your toe across into lunacy.
Or United flight 800 that thousands (20.000+)of people seen objects going from the sea to the plane.
But it was a short circuit wire in the fuel tank that took it down.
Never happened before and has never happened again.
Or the United flight in PA on 9/11.
The builder apparently did not follow window thickness recommendations and “broke some rules”.
Sadly, some rules cannot be broken without risking life.
Kinda like the 10 commandments and God’s eternal life.
This is a tragedy that could have been avoided.
May they rest in peace.
rules are not all “bad.” sometimes they are like a child’s hand in his father’s hand.
The window was the weakest link and probably caused this calamity.
Operating in the most extreme environmental conditions on the planet while cutting every engineering corner possible can only have one end.
But hadn’t this same sub made multiple trips?
Everything works until it doesn’t…
A vessel formed of brittle carbon fiber could easily be accumulating damage with each use.
Past performance is not indicative of future success when pushing the envelope of wisdom.
The likely proximate cause was material fatigue which was not detected and/or not properly treated. Repeated exposure to extreme environmental stresses progressively weakened the carbon fiber hull and/or the window material eventually leading to catastrophic structural failure.
However, given the extreme depth and environmental conditions as well as the (likely) catastrophic damage and dispersion of the vessel it is probable no definite findings will ever be made.
Including testing, my understanding is a couple dozen, minimum. However, cyclical fatigue is a well known phenomenon in materials science. We’ve seen it markedly in transport category aircraft. That Aloha Airlines Boeing 737 in Hawaii that lost part of its top was a good example.
My understanding is the acrylic manufacturer wouldn’t certify Rush’s design to the depth he wanted; they could build a viewport certified to the depth he wanted but the price wasn’t what Rush wanted to pay.
However, since the front endbell was found intact, investigators should easily be able to determine if the viewport was the failure point or not. I’m thinking not. Instead, I think the six inch thick carbon fiber cylinder that was the hull delaminated and failed catastrophically.
I agree it was certainly the tube, that was the experimental deviation from the norm Rush was so proud of.
How will they blame Trump?
No worries, They are already doing it with gusto
Negligent homicide. File soon before the assets of the company are all hidden
The CEO made wrong personnel decisions and paid the ultimate price. Should have gone with experienced ex-military submariners instead of woke, inspirational young adults.
This time, go woke=death.
No way anyone would have taken this trip after seeing the vehicle. Do billionaires get to be billionaires because they are stupid?
More money than brains! A lot of it going around lately.
Some of them get to be billionaires because they work for the MIC or a government….
Right, if I was a billionaire, the last thing I would think about doing would be going to the bottom of the ocean to look at an old wreck. If I had that kind of money, I’d be traveling to the south of France, Greece, Italy, etc.
Maybe that is where he REALLY IS at this hour. After his cutsie Hollywood-style Stunt
That is what I have been wondering!
I would have to be drugged and then drug in there and if I had to sit there on the floor like a curled-up anchovy, no way!
Paul-Henri Nargeolet was experienced and apparently agreed to help out when another pilot was unable to join the expedition. If, in his seven plus decades on the planet and being around the depths for much of it caused him concern about the sub, one would think he’d have no issue politely declining or voicing concerns.
He might not have been aware of the safety shortcuts that were taken in the creation of the Oceangate. Or, he was playing the odds that on this dive, nothing would go wrong.
Given the past dive record, that’s certain possible either way, trust or acceptable risk. However, being a sphere guy for life underwater, PH knew the marked departure from his norm Titan was taking, heck it made sense to me being a hydraulics designer and builder, so there’s that factor as well. How he balanced the factors IDK but it resulted in choosing to go and ultimately dying as a result.
Folks, please recognize this post is a serial troll seeking to defame CTH.
Best not to feed it.
He’s already gone Maquis…
You’re fast!
The titanic is a graveyard, not a tourist destination. How would you feel if some tourist jackass CEO decided to take gawkers to the USS Arizona. This is shameless profiteering, and hazardous as well. I wouldn’t say they deserved it, but I would say they should have known better.
Respect the the dead. Bad karma to profit from their lost lives so tragically.
Family of Titanic passengers agrees
Stockton Rush’s wife is the great-granddaughter of Isadore and Ida Straus, owners of Macys, who died on Titanic.
I wouldn’t put it in the same league as the Chinese pillaging WW2 warships on the bottom for the steel but yeah, there should be a certain respect paid. IDK, ask James Cameron; he had ROV’s wandering the halls of the Titanic while he watched from outside.
like those ghouls from Yale desecrating the grave of Geronimo . . .
That’s the trouble … science … has become an “inspirational” endeavor. Who needs old white men’s calculations and whatnot.
We feeeeeeeeeeel the window is thick enough … and
We feeeeeeeeeeel the window edges are sufficiently retained … and
We feeeeeeeeeeel that visibility is more important than safety … well their eyeballs got bulged pretty good before their skulls crushed. Oh well, at least they didn’t drown.
I have more empathy for 14 killed in Chicago this weekend.
Their needless deaths went unnoticed by the media.
Many were innocent children bystanders….
Unlike the 5 high risk takers aboard OceanGate. An undeserved media circus IMO.
Would be interesting to look at the intel value of the lives in the Chicago 14.
Here’s a good video from a former submariner that goes through a lot of potential problems with the submersible:
He curiously hired an awful lot of women … hmmmmm??? I wonder why.
Thankfully no un-inspiring 50 year old white males were sacrificed.
will they be able to recover the bodies & wreckage to try & figure out what happened?
It is theorized that the pressures at these depths cause an instantaneous combustion event, upon a sudden depressurization of a submarine. If true, the crew may not be identifiable.
Yes; however, with the defined debris fields and the landing frame, tailcone and end bells being substantially intact, even if the hull is in shards they should be able to raise those items and construct a probable path of failure from the examination. Any debris recovered can help materials scientists figure out how to do it better and safer.
What did we learn from Apollo One? Three died there.
Interesting interviews about letter signed by 30 members of some immersible research society.
The whole event has gotten odder by the hour.
I just saw a photo of the ‘imploded’ sub.
Imploded to me means crushed like an aluminum can.
This photo not so much.
CNN News had it posted. Dated 6/21/23 updated.
Submariner in video above says that carbon fiber composite hull would not crack but would shatter, probably into many pieces. Wouldn’t look like imploded cylinder…
Yes, I’ve seen structural carbon composites fail at the race track, driveshafts specifically, and they shatter into thousands of tiny, razor sharp, bits. It’s horrible if it happens down track because even one shard can cut a tire, causing yet another accident.
Hm. I wonder if any of those people are opponents of the federal reserve bank?
Refer to Titanic and the coincidence of who wasn’t on that voyage.
However, there is a certain irony in the decisions around corporate human resources and operational priority, given the fact that all the rescue missions are being led by “50-year-old white guys.” – Sundance
This video supports Sundance’s contention about “50-year-old white guys” leading the search and recovery efforts (if any?!! Being a 70+ old white guy I’m sick and tired of all the aspersions against “white guys” especially from other whites!!!
A 77 year old white guy was piloting the sub, sadly. The undersea exploration community lost a valuable soul there.
Wags are having a field day with the user reviews for the Logitech video game controller on Amazon. Maybe taken down by now, it was lit a few hours ago.
Game controllers are some of the most brutally, widely, tested electronic devices on the planet.
It was kinda comical watching all the vitriol hurled at a game controller, given what we now know apparently occurred.
Great way to take attention away from the absolute failure of NATO in Ukraine.
It’s worse than that.
Over the weekend both Zelensky and his top goons began repeatedly warning that “Russia” is about to destroy the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Based on the fate of the Nordstream II Pipeline and the Kakhovka Dam people should be extremely concerned about the Ukrainian government blaming Russia for a nuclear meltdown which has yet to occur.
Truth be told I’d sooner expect the Russian Federation forces to secure and defend the site from saboteurs.
Humanitarian reasons aside, if only to prevent any mischief involving nuclear material from the grounds. Russia has their own legitimate national security concerns.
They have secured and continue to hold that plant against numerous Ukronazi attempts to retake it and inflict damage with missiles.
The Russians are the adults in this matter.
Perhaps trying to prosper from the tragic death of the twelve hundred souls is not good karma.
May they Rest In Peace.
The CEO was adverse to hiring 50 year old white guys, but I’m wondering if it was because the 50-year-old experienced white guys took a look at the vessel, operation, and personnel and refused to work for this company.
That the reason he hired diverse young “fun” people was because they didn’t have much experience and didn’t realize the dangers.
By all accounts the owner was a corner cutter. Not the smartest plan at a water depth pressure of 5,600 pounds per square inch.
Plus the hull was untested for the multiple stresses of going down and back.
Wonder if he explained all of this to his pax.
Jacques Cousteau is weeping in heaven today …
You think that is where he went? Very interesting thought.
Looks like it imploded 1.45 hours into its descent on Sunday.
They were descending at 1 mph so they were at 9,240 below sea level or 308 atmospheres when the implosion may have occurred. At that depth, the pressure was 4,256 pounds per square inch of your body. Normal pressure on the body at sea level is 15 psi.
Three tons (6,000 lbs) of pressure per square inch would be an instant death. They sleep with the fishes. An ironic tragedy.
You think the pre-signed extensive waiver(s) will prevent Oceangate being sued?
Is there legal standing on either side?
No waivers can eliminate culpability due to negligence. And I think the operators of OceanGate have a lot of explaining.
State could bring criminal charges against operators.
The primary actor, visionary and ramrod of good, or evil, is dead.
Waiting for the media to blame Trump for this one, but I don’t watch msndnc or cnn.
The trail to the Everest summit is littered with corpses. People walk right by them.
Some of the behaviors of people engaging in these activities seems off. It’s reckless and an affront to common sense, for sure. Life is too precious.
God gives us free will. You wouldn’t catch me on Everest, or diving on Titanic, but should my supposed sensibilities lord over the free will of others? Remember what the Communists are doing to us, right now, today. Forcing their worldview upon us, often under color of law and to our physical, psychological and financial peril. Do we like this?
Why is Last Refuge not covering this? Weird. DOJ stopped Weiss from filing charges on Hunter in 2022. https://news.yahoo.com/irs-whistleblowers-allege-sweeping-political-214729389.html?soc_src=social-sh&soc_trk=ma
The captain of the Titanic was a 62 year old white guy.
The pilot of Titan was a 77 year old white guy, someone who actually didn’t have to be there. He chose to, even with all his experience as a submariner. Did that experience imbue complacency? IDK.
Why do you keep spouting this stuff? The ceo hated the idea of having good staff and team due to their age and melanin. Stop acting if they didn’t screw up or gave a da— about anything. They just won the Darwin awards and all the money in the world can’t get them out of that.
Never stated any of that, sorry you’re triggered by inconvenient facts. The pilot was a very experrienced undersea mariner who’d dove on Titanic dozens of times.
He was no spring chicken and knew Rush and his predecessors, including Graham Hawkes, who died before finishing his cylindrical submersible.
It’s not spounting stuff, it’s a discussion. Only way to shut me up in real life is to kill me. I’ve no problem with anyone coming at me. We all go to God. I’m ready. Oh, and I hate Communists. Do with that what you will.
Or INCREASE the reasonableness that this was a STUNT to cover up a Retreat by Rich Guy from the Reach of Globalists who might think he really went down with the ship, like a good captain ought to. Instead of taking his gold cache and running for the hills.
AI’s distraction for the sheep away from the FBI, CIA, DOJ, and Obama.
Any comment yet from the ‘diverse group’ of youngsters that makes up the staff at OceanGate, that doesn’t include any fifty year old White guys?
Do they bear any responsibility in this disaster?
I think they’ve been posting dance videos on TikTok?
“ some went off to sea in ships, plying the trade routes of the world. They, too, observed the Lord’s power in action, his impressive works on the deepest seas.”
Psalm 107: 23,28
Through the power of his creation, versus our smallness and weakness, we see that we need him.
His true power is revealed on the seas of the world, and in the hearts of his followers.
THE SEA GIVES…
THE SEA TAKES AWAY….
RESPECT IT…
FEAR IT….
AS YOU FEAR AND RESPECT THE LORD…
As usual there are a bunch of 50 year old white guys there to try and save them and clean up the mess.
Their submarine adventure cost $250,000 each.
I think it’s rather morbid to go on a tourist expedition to see someone’s tragic ending, yet also find it ironic that future adventurers will someday make an expedition to see these 5 fool’s tragic ending as well.
I guess it depends on perspective. How would I view those who trek to France, where the Titan pilot was from, to walk among the graves of those who met a tragic end on June 6, 1944?
What got them, both the dead and those who choose to walk among their graves, to that place in France would be a worthwhile discussion, patriotism aside. We know a lot more now than in the past.
Is someone who died because someone else sent them to their death more valuable and respectable than someone who died due to a combination of poor judgement by others and the cold neutrality of nature? Are those who trek to their graves more or less morbid depending on the grave trekked to? There’s a lot of levels to examine there, and we could apply the same discussion to current events elsewhere in the country and world.
I mention it because had it not been for one young guy surviving that gauntlet of death, I wouldn’t be here. Plenty of ‘me’s’ never existed because those young guys are helping the grass grow in France, and elsewhere. Shall I honor them, or not? How about the bravery of the passengers and crew of the Titanic? No? Yes? Interesting questions.
This is why I follow such events. They teach me things and cause reflection and introspection. The rest I leave in God’s capable hands.
My Grandfather was drafted at age 36 as a D-Day replacement (w/ 3 boys under the age of 12), and sent directly to the front lines. He died capturing the bridge at Remagen (the last bridge across the Rhine & only path to Berlin) just 1 month before the end of the war in Europe. It wasn’t until late December that his body made it back to East Texas. Quite a bit different situation than curiosity tourism.
It’s different because you choose to make it different. Also, we’re being mind readers too, deciding what the thoughts and motivations of the passengers, or grave visitors, are.
How many visit the graves of Normandy out of curiosity? How many visit Titanic out of curiosity? Why did James Cameron, among many others, visit Titanic? He ended up making a boatload of money from his visits via a film he made. Profiteering from Titanic?
It’s a rabbit hole worth exploration, how humans process things. Also, we’re biased. If we like one person, we process their existence through a different lens from someone we don’t like. We see that every day here in politics. That’s not an indictment, simply part of being human.
