In a Republican administration the leftist media would be going bananas asking why the Federal Trade Commission is requiring Twitter to notify them of which journalists have had access to internal communication files. Alas, with a Democrat administration in office, the FTC demand is not an issue.
It would appear the mechanisms of government are aligned to fight back against any sunlight that might be provided upon the government manipulation of the social media platform.
In a profound display of institutional hubris, the U.S. government claims they are concerned about user privacy as the justification for their involvement.
In addition to the U.S. government demanding to know who may have reviewed the Twitter company communication with the U.S. government, the FTC is also looking for a deposition from Twitter CEO Elon Musk about the status of the company.
(Via Wall Street Journal) – WASHINGTON—The Federal Trade Commission has demanded Twitter Inc. turn over internal communications related to owner Elon Musk, as well as detailed information about layoffs—citing concerns that staff reductions could compromise the company’s ability to protect users, documents viewed by the Wall Street Journal show.
In 12 letters sent to Twitter and its lawyers since Mr. Musk’s Oct. 27 takeover, the FTC also asked the company to “identify all journalists” granted access to company records and to provide information about the launch of the revamped Twitter Blue subscription service, the documents show.
“We are concerned these staff reductions impact Twitter’s ability to protect consumers’ information,” an FTC official wrote to Twitter’s lawyers on Nov. 10 following an initial wave of layoffs, according to a copy of the letter viewed by the Journal.
[…] “Protecting consumers’ privacy is exactly what the FTC is supposed to do,” said FTC spokesman Douglas Farrar. He said the agency is “conducting a rigorous investigation into Twitter’s compliance with a consent order that came into effect long before Mr. Musk purchased the company.” (read more)
That last paragraph is particularly filled with irony and hubris, considering the same U.S. govt concerned about “consumer privacy” is the same U.S. govt who demanded Twitter reveal the identities of users in order to enhance targeting efforts.
Sundance, PLEASE bring on the Sunlight! We are waiting. Thank you and God Bless! We can handle it.
Sure can hear the demons wailing.
Much wailing and gnashing of teeth……-:)

Hmmmm….
It’s the BBC…say no more..
I like the narrative collaboration here.
BBC: Trolls!
FTC: Save the Trolls! (ie, How dare you interfere with our narrative engineering?)
I’ll admit…very cheeky.
They’re all totalitarians
now.
Fear of exposure, much like cockroaches behave, when lights are turned on.
FTC is trying to use “protected user data” claims and possibly “LEO sensitive means/methods” to justify taking regulatory control over Twitter.
This is a nascent power grab and backdoor attempt to seize control of Twitter.
The horse has already left the barn but FTC wants to lock everything down to avoid further embarrassment to the inept and corrupt administration.
Or establish narratives to support their eventual destruction of Twitter when Jack’s Magic Coffee Shop mysteriously runs dry.

Where is the Epstein black book..
It wasn’t Epstein who died in prison, just someone who looked like him.
He’s been spotted back in the bahamas.
A demand for information on exactly who knows about what they did so they can be more precisely targeted for future compliance measures.
I hope Twitter’s new management fights them for every bit of it just to give them bureaucrats some consternation.
A demand for information on exactly who knows about what they did so they can be more precisely targeted
Yeah, like that female journalist who found that Federal evesdropping and control software had been uploaded to her computer (and probably all prior content sucked off it in the same stroke)

Read the White House National Cybersecurity Strategy document that Sundance described recently on CTH. In the document, you will learn the full extent of FedGov’s desire to control what you see and what you do online. As an individual or a small business, you will be “kept safe” by FedGov, large corporations, and “international partners,” such as our ever so helpful Five Eyes friends, the UK and Australia. Your online experience will be made more diverse and equitable, and will better reflect “our democracy” and “our values.”
Feeling safer, yet?
I don’t even trust these pukes not to molest my grave and have me voting Communist for eternity.

Yes, a new inheritance tax. Payable by all your surviving descendents, forever.

You beat me to it but I guess, “Great minds” do think alike!
Let’s just quit pretending to not know things. We have been taken over by the commies w/o them having to fire a single shot. We were probably the first super power in history to ever be conquered by another super power without our even making a whimper.
Never thought I would see this day but when put being entertained and comfort above all else and turn the defense of your freedom over to some one else, you will always lose it.

So well said!
If Twitter’s lawyers were smart, they would respond to this communist FTC bs by detailing the names of every government operator who was on Twitter’s payroll before the downsizing. Then publicize the list at the same time the FTC receives the list. Hey look, Twitter has no obligation to continue the farce of the government’s interference in a private company. Once public, the FTC loses all control
The Alphabet media reporters are govt operatives

Yes, he beat that into our brains.

This is what happens when you have a figurehead as a president. The bureaucracy just lets the stupid flag fly because they have nothing to restrain them. This type of thing should be a lesson to all to never let government have any more power than the minimum necessary to maintain order and defend the country.
America is now a Facist dictatorship.
FTC, F’ing Traitor Commies
Just watched Apollo 13 the other night. I was reminded of how differant life was back in 1970. No cell phones, tablets, social media etc. Yet we were able to get those men back to earth.
Life was better then. America was still doing big things that made us feel united and proud to be an American.
Amen.
To the moon and back. Engineered with a slide rule.
yeah, computers at the time occupied an entire room
at my high school we had a dial-up phone connection and wrote rudimentary programs in BASIC and submitted them
even in 1977, input to the mainframe computer I had access to was still by punch-cards
you wrote out your program in pencil, then sat at a keypunch machine and typed each line in, 1 line per card … if you made a typo, throw it out and insert a new card
put your card stack in the card-reader machine and then wait half-an-hour or so for your printed paper output
if it didn’t run correctly, look for a mistake in your coding and start all over again
and that was still in 1977
Same memories !
I know of a world famous company that only relatively recently re-wrote a Fortran program into Excel to support one of their products first made in the 70s. The people that made things back before computer models, different type. We are still dependent on slightly upgraded 1970s technology, we just added more digital controls.
In 1977, I was working for a bank, a good bank before they all became corrupt. They even built a new building just to house the gigantic computer and the air conditioning bill was enormous. (It was freezing in there) There was a whole department just to handle word processing. As time passed, a personal computer appeared on my desk and I learned to operate it on an unintelligible green screen. Yeah, I’m old but life was good back then.
In ’72 over in S.E. Asia, we had a state of the art computer. It was reprogrammed with a mag tape. A real eye opener as I was an electronic tech and it was fast for its day! Inputs were from Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, Thailand, Australia, and South Vietnam. We knew a helluva lot about that area! We could track all aircraft without using any radar. Simply amazing. Use of the SR71 Blackbird was slick. From way up high, we could identify what brand of cigarette you smoked. Just fathom what they can do today!
We had something similar in my high school. You had to set in a little
room and submit your questions.
A whole lot of kids at our school got in trouble because all the questions they
were asking were obscene. To make it even better, the college kids that answered
back to their nefariousness always managed to one up whatever was asked, and
made it filthier yet.
They finally made it so there was a long list of words, suggestions that couldn’t
be entered into the system. The teachers and principal came up with a whole lot
of words, obscene suggestions, and made it known to the computer guys that if
any of the smut was sent, the computer would basically freeze up. Until an adult
came and re set it.
But the secret sauce at NASA was all those Paperclip Nazi engineers who were backed up by a room full of black ladies doing all the important math calculations, that’s how they did it…
Yeah logbook, I remember too. November 1963 Kennedy assassination and cover up,my two tours in Vietnam 68-70. And then of course things were so much better then. Like setting up Nixon. Have thing’s really changed?
Mr. Geagan, thank you for your service. I too remember November 63. Truly awful moment among many awful moments in our history.
I guess the point I was trying to make is how simpler life was back then minus all the gadgets that tend to separate humanity from one another vs unifying us or at least maintaining empathy for one another.
Isn’t that the movie where producers purposely omitted the American flag because their narrative is that space exploration is a global achievement, and not strictly an American one?
God forbid one has pride in their own separate country!
This is why you put it online for everyone to see. There has to be a reason Musk didn’t.
Protecting consumer information?????
When I use a TOR client to go to online, my IP address makes it appear that I’m in a foreign country and almost all major American corporate websites ie: Costco, Home Depot etc, block me because they know that the countries I appear to be coming from don’t allow the unbridled data mining that American federal law allows.
I don’t hear the FTC saying squat about that.
What a load of BS!
Will Baker: Clearly, you are a threat to yourself, and don’t even know it. If I were you, I would march myself right down to the authorities, this very minute, and turn myself in. For my own good.
So, how dies one go about doing that?
I’ve been known to use TOR. Good piece of operation gear. Masks that IP address nicely! Agreed!! I had a helluva time accessing my mail, LOL!
The feds are just going to shake down the so-called journalists.
Just another IRS conservative targeting move, lite.
Remember government created email. Of course Al Gore invented the internet.
And the paperclip.
But… Shiva claims he invented email.
Shiva didn’t “invent” email. I worked for GTE Telenet (before GTE bought it and eventually merged with United Telecommunications to form Sprint in 1987), and we had “telemail” in 1982. It was publically available nationwide on the X.25 network via dialup.
It may have been a DARPA project in it’s infancy, connecting universities at first, but Shiva had nothing to do with that.
Thank you Cole. I have learned that Shiva lies, a lot. And people lie for him too. I am not one of those.
I remember blue screen email from the late 80s, early 90s. It may have been intranet email only.
I was in banking back then and used to manage the ESOP Plan of United Telecommunications, among others. In my next profession I went on to work for many years with Sprint, and many other cell phone companies.
I always tho’t it wild that I was part of the breakup of the Bells in banking and then was part of the put them back together in the cell phone world.
It is time to break them up again.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SAFETY OF ELON MUSK, JAMES O’KEEFE AND TUCKER CARLSON
Wasn’t it the FBI, not journalists, the go between federal and state governments nulling citizens speech?
Culling our rights is the slow burn of tyranny. What’s next stealing elections?
Oh…forgot…my bad…THEY already did that.
More than once.

How quaint.

Elon Musk made the Bolshevik’s enemies list so they are all going after him now including the FTC, SEC, EEOC, IRS, DOL, DOJ, FCC and the E-I-E-I-O!
Thank goodness he has the money to deal with the mob that is the united states government. I wish him well.
At the very least, Musk has thrown a modest curve ball to the deep state. A small bit of sunlight is seeping through for anyone willing to look.
But there are all the social and other media diligently working in sync to maintain the false reality of the official narratives.
It’s beyond obvious, even to deaf, dumb and blind man. At some point, those responsible in government, who have colluded with media, tech and industry oligarchs must be held to account for the malfeasance and malevolence against the republic’s citizenry. With state level elections and all three legislative, executive and court branch corruption so flagrant, how does a corrupted and incompetent government self-correct?
Not trust me on this, there are some really clueless people out there. Not dumb, just entirely separated from reality.
“Hi, I’m from the Government and I’m here to help!”
Rest in piece, President Reagan. You thought you inherited a mess. You would not recognize our Republic today!

Musk responds:
“Shameful Case Of Weaponization”: Musk Responds To FTC Demands For Journalist Info
Elon Musk’s response at zerohedge is awesome. Lately, they haven’t been showing the comments but they are displaying them tonight and they are good!
The FTC refused to respond when I reported an illegal release of consumer information by one of the big three consumer credit agencies. I had phone records, emails and metadata proving it. I think that tells us all we need to know.
After everything you’ve shown us over three administrations, Sundance, I am surprised that this is your lead sentence”
“In a Republican administration the leftist media would be going bananas asking why the Federal Trade Commission is requiring Twitter to notify them of which journalists have had access to internal communication files. Alas, with a Democrat administration in office, the FTC demand is not an issue.”
It was only hours ago that McConnell said nothing three times while waving the Capitol Police Chief’s analysis like a hanky. MSNBCNN getting all huffy about another weaponized department today seems like biz as usual, but only when it suits their interests (pun intended). Otherwise, silence is the expected norm. That’s why Trump/Enemy of the State is a twofer. (What’s the FTC’s interest? Market manipulation? Recent revelations of intent to monopolize? Or, based the statement, possible intentions by Musk to bankrupt his new investment, just for fun? It’s his. He can do what he wants.).
We her at the Treehouse already know, the fix is in, no matter what the politics are. The only question left is how to rid the landscape, to our best capabilities, of these vermin when every branch is compromised.
No reason to get excited
The thief, he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, you and I, we’ve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin’ falsely now
The hour’s getting late
Kinda lets you know who owns Twitter
Is this what panic by corrupt government smells like?
Starting to smell good…
I think every journalist and news organization should come forward and say “I’ve seen it. We all have seen it, there is no hiding it.” Then what will they do about it.
Tight control over the dissemination of propaganda is exactly what the FTC is supposed to do. Fixed it for you Mr. FTC spokesgoon.
Pure East German Stasi tactics.

.gov is really worried about protecting all in the cyber world of Twitter trash yet
WWIII may hit us anytime as .gov wants nothing to do with peace talks between Russia and Ukraine
Illegal immigration border invaders remain unchecked at the .gov southern border
Career criminals continue to commit crimes under catch and release
Law abiding Americans are not allowed in many places to protect themselves because .gov is anti 2nd Amendment
.gov is still pushing the MRNA Covid 19 poison shot because they want us all dead
Oh hey FTC maybe you can actually help. The other day I got my credit card statement. There was a charge at Sam’s Club I couldn’t figure out. I drove to Sam’s Club and met with customer service. The lady knew what was up within 2 minutes. Apparently Sam’s Club automatically charges your credit card when your membership fee is due. It’s automatic I never authorized this charge they just went and did it.
I told the customer service lady that’s this was shady as hell and she agreed. You could tell by her body language that she thought I was gonna start screaming at her. She said people come in all the time complaining about Sam’s Club charging the fee without authorization. She was really sorry and she said it was beyond her control and that the corporate office dictated this.
Hey FTC you bunch of grifters maybe you could get Sam’s Club to stop running up peoples credit cards without authorization.
If you had paid your annual membership fee on time, they wouldn’t have charged your card?
Should just say all of them including their Deep State handlers had access.
Should give all the names of the NGO’s involved. Oh wait they know everyone else’s identities…

THEY STOLE THE ELECTION AND THEY JAILED PEOPLE PROTESTING THE STOLEN ELECTION!!
Elon should gleefully give them a Full & Complete list, with only “minor” redactions.
Such as are “deployed” by ANY govt. agency asked for complete “transparency” data.
PBS constantly runs the BBC, interviewing people who want all concerned to move on from the invasive tactics, free speech obstruction, and suppressive election meddling. Keep the spotlight on them.
They dont even try to hide their fascism anymore.
….yet very few care.
Musk is going to have a field day with this. What more proof does he need to demonstrate that US Government was actively violating the rights of American citizens?
Within weeks of Musk making Twitter’s illegal conduct at the bidding of corrupt Government actors public knowledge, the same Government demonstrates just how corrupt they are by interfering in private hiring decisions by Twitter and trying to intimidate Musk into silence.
There must be even worse stuff about to come out.
Musk should respond to the FTC asking when they plan to depose fired Twitter staff to ask them why they were violating American’s Constitutional rights on the orders of the FBI, Members of Congress, etc. And btw what is the FTC’s position of Government not disclosing its control over private sector companies in the Twitter terms of service?
Seems to me that the FTC should be very concerned about Government Employees’ undisclosed control over a private company and failure to disclose Government Monitoring and Control to Twitter’s users. As well as the previous Twitter Board’s failure to disclose Government Control over Twitter content in public filings to the FTC…
Think this also might have something to do with the Regime coming down on Elon?
