Apparently, the Chinese spy balloon isn’t the first. Additionally, according to the Pentagon, there are several more floating around over various countries. All of that said, what exactly is going on here and why doesn’t anyone just get rid of it?

“This event definitely strengthens the hands of the United States,” said Heather McMahon, a former senior director at the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. “Anytime an espionage operation is exposed, [it] gives the advantage to the targeted nation.”
Blinken was preparing to see top officials in China on Sunday and Monday in a follow-up to President Joe Biden’s meeting with Chinese paramount leader Xi Jinping in Bali in November. At the time, Biden pledged to “maintain open lines of communication” with Beijing amid worsening bilateral tensions.
The Pentagon’s announcement Thursday of an alleged Chinese surveillance balloon hovering over Montana changed that plan. In canceling Blinken’s trip, at least for now, the State Department said the incident “would have narrowed the agenda in a way that would have been unhelpful and unconstructive.” (read more)

But if you want to watch the weather at high altitude, just send a balloon way up there and it will just stay there. Its location, direction and speed are among the data that it constantly transmits, along with air temperature and moisture.

Lots of interesting things that directly affect surface weather happen at 80,000 feet. A balloon can sit up there for months, consuming no fuel and using a solar-recharged battery. You can actually tune in to their transponder radios – the data stream format is public. There are usually lots of them up there, most too high to see. But you can hear them, and they’ll tell you where they are.
They still have no right to be in our air space without our permission. Maybe they have it, I don’t know.

Not so easy to take down. Some years back a high altitude weather balloon went off course in Canada. Their military shot 1000 cannons into it and I believe the U.S. military joined the effort in trying to shoot it down. Didn’t stop it, kept going.

Real ID is part of this growing surveillance state too. The photo for the Real ID license is facial recognition compatible –which is why they ask you not to smile for the photo. After May 7, 2025 no one can board a flight without this facial recognition ready ID.

By US and, almost certainly, international rules for unmanned, free flight balloons with a payload over 12 pounds (according to US rules) require a radar retroreflector to make them easy to track on radar, a payload recovery device (parachute) for safe descent of the payload if the balloon fails, and the ability to radio command the payload to detach and descend to earth on its parachute.
So, I’m not so sure I buy the debris excuse for not shooting it down. Plus, it has travelled over a lot of very sparsely populated areas.
I think we should get a look at what is hanging under the balloons to find out what the objective is.
If it’s just weather-type instruments then the wayward balloon excuses make more sense. If they have intelligence-gathering devices then we have a different issue.
Still, I think it’s best to shoot them down well before they enter US territorial waters.

I agree – Knew in February 2020 that it was an engineered virus and learned about the 4 inserted HIV strands at that time. For people not up to speed on this, I learned from the scientists I got input from that this was most likely an engineered virus because unlike in nature, where you can occasionally get a segment of HIV on a natural virus, it is impossible to get four segments of HIV on a single genome in nature, which indicates a researcher placed them there during genetic modification.
Actually, the Chinese are following NASA’s plan to “mass vaccinate” the country by aerosolization of the atmosphere. This was from a study they published decades ago, which I no longer know if I could find or if it’s scrubbed like so many data entries that threaten the narratives. Instead of a rocket, they used a balloon.
