Apparently, the Chinese spy balloon isn’t the first. Additionally, according to the Pentagon, there are several more floating around over various countries. All of that said, what exactly is going on here and why doesn’t anyone just get rid of it?

The Chinese airship forced the U.S. military to scramble fighter jets, prompted lawmakers to demand answers from the Biden administration and led Secretary of State Antony Blinken to indefinitely postpone his trip to Beijing this weekend.
But Blinken was going to China without much hope of getting concessions on major issues such as Beijing’s support for Russia’s war on Ukraine, its human rights abuses or its threats to Taiwan. Now, some former officials who’ve worked on international negotiations say he may be in a stronger position, though that advantage may fade over time.
“This event definitely strengthens the hands of the United States,” said Heather McMahon, a former senior director at the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. “Anytime an espionage operation is exposed, [it] gives the advantage to the targeted nation.”
Blinken was preparing to see top officials in China on Sunday and Monday in a follow-up to President Joe Biden’s meeting with Chinese paramount leader Xi Jinping in Bali in November. At the time, Biden pledged to “maintain open lines of communication” with Beijing amid worsening bilateral tensions.
The Pentagon’s announcement Thursday of an alleged Chinese surveillance balloon hovering over Montana changed that plan. In canceling Blinken’s trip, at least for now, the State Department said the incident “would have narrowed the agenda in a way that would have been unhelpful and unconstructive.” (read more)

The detection of the suspected Chinese spy balloon over the United States triggered speculation that Beijing was mounting a concerted surveillance effort near sensitive military sites.
China has claimed the balloon is a civilian airship that blew off course, but analysts have said the balloon could be a Cold War-era espionage technique deployed in US airspace.
Balloons have been used as a spying technique – including by the US – since the 1950s. But technological advancements mean modern models are harder to detect and have much greater surveillance capabilities.
The balloon currently floating over the US is about the size of three buses. It is believed to have flown over the Aleutian Islands in the northern Pacific Ocean, and then crossed Canadian airspace into the United States.
One model suggests it’s likely to drift further into the Midwest and over Missouri by Saturday, but the nature of the device and changing weather makes an accurate prediction difficult.
The balloon is large enough that destroying it would rain down debris, risking the safety of people on the ground, US officials said.
The balloon’s path takes it over ‘a number of sensitive sites’, a senior Pentagon official said when asked about the presence of nuclear missile silos in Montana.
‘Clearly, they’re trying to fly… this balloon over sensitive sites… to collect information,’ the official added.
However, the balloon’s tech is not ‘revolutionary’ and its observations are not better than what China is capable of seeing through other means such as its spy satellites.
China’s claim that the balloon is a civilian weather-monitoring device are not totally baseless. Such balloons, which can appear similar to a surveillance device, are common tools for meteorological research.
China has sent such balloons over the United States in recent years, the senior Pentagon official said.
The official did not share details, but indicated the flights were detected as far back as the administration of the previous president Donald Trump.
However, the official added, this is the first time a Chinese balloon has stayed in US airspace for an extended period.

Saw a closeup photo of the balloon earlier. Looked very crude and didn’t appear the be carrying anything hi-tech or functional to me. No visible signs of propulsion. No photo-optic devices or visible machinery of any kind. Looked like some kind of lightweight metallic frame or structure with squares attached to it that looked like they were wrapped in trashbag type material. Very strange….

A balloon cannot be “steered” to the Montana ICBM fields. The jet stream takes it where the jet stream happens to be going on the day the balloon is there. From the perspective of wanting to photograph a specific place – it would only happen by sheer chance – it cannot be pre-planned with any degree of certainty.

Is this actually a “spy” balloon? What kind of information is it getting? I don’t believe a word of what the Pentagon or State Department tells us, but there is nothing we can possibly know or learn about this.
Some scare stories appearing – fear is great manipulation – that this could be carrying an EMP device or be seeking how to get an EMP device over the US. If the Pentagon has been studying these things for a while, they probably know exactly what they are and what they are doing, so not telling us is simply a scare tactic.
Anyone getting the feeling that this is “Weapons of Mass Destruction” type of narrative? With Ukraine losing, the military-industrial complex needs a new source of money from the American tax payers and what is a better way to do that than scaring Americans about a Chinese attack to get billions more appropriations.

Me too. She reminds me of the instructor of the “Emergency German” class I took upon arriving in-country back in 1984. Which was, coincidentally, about the same time this song was popular over there.
I arrived on the same day as a new shipment of SS-20 nukes was delivered, courtesy of US, to be installed in various locations around the German countryside. It was, at that time, the biggest demonstration in modern German history. I’ve never seen such a mass of people before, from my second-floor window. I was locked down in my hotel for three days before it relaxed enough that I could report to my unit.
But this was way before Antifa. The protest was indeed (sorry to use this cliched phrase, but it’s true) mostly peaceful, at least from my vantage point in the “suburbs.”. The protest was mainly down at the harbor in Bremerhaven, where the ships carrying the missiles were docking. But there were so many people that the city was packed wall to wall with this glacier of human bodies, extending all the way out to where we were.
But the German Polizei were smooth and efficient, and they don’t coddle criminals like over here so they were able to keep a lid on the protestors, more or less.

The Department of Defense would like to know the Balloon’s pronouns
It may be that inside that balloon is a EMP. Dry run on this flight but the next one may take out the grid. Certainly it’s not a spy mission.
Read a summary today of some Biblical Prophecy being fulfilled. Never heard of the guy before. He associated several events with the fulfillment of Biblical Prophecy. His idea was the final war will start from Israel killing that nutbag in Syria. Then Russia, Iran, Egypt, Turkey turn on Israel. The US is stopped from coming to Israel’s defense due to an EMP that wipes out 90+% of the US. No electricity, no communications, no water or food in most cities after a few days etc etc. Who knows?
The argument that these balloons give a negotiation advantage to blinken/state department is absurd. china leaders will agree to something that they otherwise would oppose?
But what it disturbing is that many fellow US citizens, those who rely on emotion rather than reason (eg, gullible but possibly well-meaning democrats), will believe such claptrap.
I would guess that it’s something the US government knows about and might even be involved in on some level with the Chinese government.
Kind of like viruses.

Japan sent almost 10.000 balloons adrift towards this country and over 300 made land with incendiary devices.
These balloons can be controlled and steered in any direction and now they are popping up in Canada and South America and who knows where else and calling them weather research is as much of a lie as the Japanese whaling ships that are just collecting tissues samples.

And while all the MSM is concentrating on a “Chinese spy balloon”, Merrick Garland today has confiscated the assets of a Russian businessman who has supported the Donbass “separatists” since 2014 – after Victoria Nuland’s and US NGO’s coup to remove the elected leader of Ukraine and put in a US puppet. These assets are going to be turned over to Ukraine.
In April, 2022, the DOJ indicted Konstantin Malofeev on the charge of violating IEEPA sanctions. The IEEPA authorizes the president to declare the existence of an “unusual and extraordinary threat… to the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States. After such a declaration, the president can block transactions and freeze assets to deal with the threat. If there is an actual attack on the United States, the president can confiscate property connected with a country, group, or person that aided in the attack.
You see where this IEEPA law goes, I hope. President says you are guilty of a threat. They block your assets and confiscate them.
The thing is, this businessman has not threatened the US at all or made an attack on the US, unless the US is at war in Ukraine and supposedly we are NOT at war with Russia. We’re not supposed to notice.

My guess is, now that he is publicly making statements on what he would do if currently in the White House about these things whether the balloon or our southern borders – pretty sure that the swamp media will bring up that whole Logan rule or law that people aren’t supposed to be interfering with foreign relations when not actively in office.
