Could it be the difference between rural vs metropolitan populations; one drives frequently, for longer durations and distances, while the other does not?
Apparently, that type of commonsense possibility did not make it into the analysis. However, the authors of the study do suggest insurance companies should start considering insurance risk hikes based on vaccination status.

Or at least those are the findings of a new study published this month in The American Journal of Medicine. During the summer of 2021, Canadian researchers examined the encrypted government-held records of more than 11 million adults, 16% of whom hadn’t received the COVID vaccine.
They found that the unvaccinated people were 72% more likely to be involved in a severe traffic crash—in which at least one person was transported to the hospital—than those who were vaccinated. That’s similar to the increased risk of car crashes for people with sleep apnea, though only about half that of people who abuse alcohol, researchers found.
The excess risk of car crash posed by unvaccinated drivers “exceeds the safety gains from modern automobile engineering advances and also imposes risks on other road users,” the authors wrote.
Of course, skipping a COVID vaccine does not mean that someone will get into a car crash. Instead, the authors theorize that people who resist public health recommendations might also “neglect basic road safety guidelines.”
Why would they ignore the rules of the road? Distrust of the government, a belief in freedom, misconceptions of daily risks, “faith in natural protection,” “antipathy toward regulation,” poverty, misinformation, a lack of resources, and personal beliefs are potential reasons proposed by the authors.
The findings are significant enough that primary care doctors should consider counseling unvaccinated patients on traffic safety—and insurance companies might base changes to insurance policies on vaccination data, the authors suggest. (read more)

It was my observation that for the first few months after vaccine roll-out here in BC that the rate of single vehicle weird accidents was way way up. I started wondering about it – there was just too many accidents not too notice. I had drove the same highway at the same times for years… and suddenly people were randomly just driving off the road, all over the place and weirdly (not just speed related etc). Most were single vehicle, and sometimes multiple accidents per day on a stretch of road that would see a serious accident a few times/year. This went on for a few months. I discreetly asked a couple acquaintances (couple cops, one tow driver) if they had noticed anything odd with the number of car accidents…. and got a resounding YES! We don’t know what the ‘ll is going on but it is the weirdest thing……
Oh, and the number of people who i personally know of who simply just sat up in bed and then suddenly keeled over…. Happily most survived and only a couple ended up in the hospital for stitches, concussion etc.. Good for another go…

I have a friend in Norway and in the past six months has had three friends 46 -50 years old die of heart attacks, otherwise healthy. Went to funeral for one of the three yesterday.

In 2021 just after the vax rollout, I had two 45-50 year old friends die from heart attacks. One was not in great shape, but died playing in his weekly hockey game. Another friend who died in his home office was an Olympic distance swimmer, swam for Stanford and made the team from his home country in the 1500 meter freestyle. He was not in Olympic shape, however a heart attack in someone with that physiology should not happen at that age.

The vaccinated are still fearfully staying home more instead of getting out of the house going places in their cars whereas the nonvaxxed are living fear free normal lives which includes driving more.
Also, the vaccinated are more likely to be liberals. Liberals tend to use mass transportation than the nonvaxxed more conservative people.
Both could be even more true in Canada than in the USA.

My guess, teens and twenty-somethings are less vaccinated than older more at-risk populations. They have more and faster accidents. And they already pay higher rates. This is dog -bites-man emphasized for prpaganda.
Vaccination rates are much lower in young people. But young people have the highest vehicular accidents rates.
Young people drive faster, have less experience, and get in way more accidents. They also are much less likely to be vaccinated.
